Pretty much this. While you are probably able to not have it bricked now, it is still a closed piece of proprietary hardware. Valve kit and WMR kit are all much more open and you have no threat of an external entity cutting you off from using your own device.

That is exactly what I tried to do - in fact I tried to revert to prior updates, made available by one of the people posting on the Oculus forums, but none of the updates in their folder prior to the latest one worked. Update 25 is, according to that original poster, the one that worked for them for the longest time, but they fucked that one somewhat recently. When I tried version 25 of their app, it just told me I need to update to use my gear.

The Jagoguerra guy or whatever his name is the one who linked the downgrade files and instructions, and none of his versions worked for me.

Also I should mention - Oculus support told me to reinstall their app and ALSO to delete some of my folders - DO NOT DELETE FOLDERS THEY ASK YOU TO DELETE IF YOU'RE IN MY POSITION. It basically "deletes" your already setup device, so if you were having DPP recognition issues, well, now you're stuck permanently on the "Set up your device" stage, and NOTHING works to get your DPP recognized.

I have a quest 2 with a ton of pirated games on it, you have two options, create a oculus dev account (no facebook necessary and sideload oculess (look up on github) now you have a quest 2 with no facebook. You can sideload paid games on it and enjoy. Unless you do a factory reset and login with facebook you won't be able to access app store or online standalone games. (pcvr and airlink work 100% like normal)
Option #2 is make a facebook account. Use your real name. You do not need to be active at all. You can still pirate games and do whatever you want and you will be able to use it for online multiplayer app store etc. (Some pirated games even have multiplayer some don't) enjoy your headset.
