I used vive wands for a bunch of time with h3vr. It was pretty annoying if you used twinstick because of having to toggle between turning and gun controls on the right controller. Its much better on index because of the separate touchpad and joystick. If you have enough autism you can use armswinger which free up some buttons.

I dont think that the controls are bad. He even added streamlined controls for non index players which is more similar to other vrfps games. It does have a steep learning curve though. As far as gameplay goes, what does it for me is take and hold.
