"Virtual Reality, All gaming™"
Second Edition

This general is a separation from the previous virtual reality general. This place is for those that want to discuss VR games and gaming. This doesn't not include VRC as we see it as a social app and a derailing from VR gaming.

Welcome back racer!
EU Assetto Corsa: European Racing club season 4!
Race 17.

19:00 UTC, Monday 7th of February

Gentlemen, this is the future. Pure electric strength, maximum torque, motors wheeeezing and killing all the batteries. Formula-E in Hong Kong. Sadly only 10 spots.
Afterwards we'll go visit German Feldbergring, for some chill driving around German countryside.

Download mods here:
https://mega.nz/folder/yvImDJ7A#g3oWu1vJkO4HQwHbcl9f4Q

-88% for Assetto Corsa Ultimate! Get it on Steam!

Assetto - can be played with wheel, controller, or steam-vr-wheel addon, it doesn't matter, we will all have fun driving together. If you just bought Asseto - grab Assetto Corsa Content Manager - a better launcher: https://assettocorsa.club/content-manager.html and a mod installer (just drag and drop zip files from mega).

For communication we'll use mumble at voice.vrg.party port 64738.
You don't have to download the client, you can use webclient at https://voice.vrg.party/?address=voice.vrg.party/demo&port=443
Push to talk works globally only using desktop client, desktop client is more configurable, highly recomend to get it, no need for any accounts, just join server and talk

Pavlov's guns are good for the type of gameplay it has. I think H3's guns are a bit too fiddly considering VR has no real tactile feedback. The better hands mod with larger interaction spheres solves this to an extent, but still leaves problems like grabbing the charging handle instead of the foregrip on H&K weapons.

yes, on some guns the bits you're supposed to manipulate are definitely too precise, especially magwells, that leads to a lot of frustrating moments where I'm being shot because I can't put the mag in or pull something that irl would be trivial. even as flawed as that is I still have the most fun with it.

So guys. I've been away from VR for a few months again due to severe autism. What's new besides an actual general for video games, and this new zenith game that looks awful? Any new technology? Decagear? Anything to make the G2 tracking not trash? Cheaper alternative to base stations and index/vive controllers? Any software updates or anything to improve WMR performance? Any other new games? You guys are still running AC and DR2 which is cool. Maybe I'll race again one day.

There is maybe one game worth spending money for a heavily VR-capable PC, and it's NeosVR. HL Alyx is fun, but I liked HL2 more.

Neos is kind of in a bad spot too, though. And then there's the problem this anon mentions:
>>371044721

VR can be turned into a seated experience with Neos, but for some (probably most) VR games, you should expect that you have to stand and have a significant radius around you so that you don't hit stuff. And really, it might start to become a pain to wear the HMD. It did for me.

I just have my headset sitting behind me. I really recently just went back to monitor with mouse/keyboard, and I like this. I don't have to bother messing with taking my headset off to do something else, I don't have to bother with certain games just straight up being a pain in the ass because I am in SteamVR (looking at you, Counter Strike: Source), and I don't have to deal with the weight of a headset.

Also, consider that the community of PC VR players is a somewhat small community. You probably will see the same people a lot.

You need a gaming PC
and then for quest 2 setup uhhh
$300 q2 128gb
$40 new audiophones from amazon (they strap on with mounts)
$20-50 3rd party battery strap
$20-50 2 20,000 milliamps batteries (eternal wireless VR gives you 6-10 play time depending on internals at time of slapping it on the back of the 3rd party strap battery holder)
$20-50 for wireless router as a dedicated access point, only the q2 should EVER touch it
$100-250SlimeVR is cheap like 100-250 depending on various fators like DIY or pre purchase
1,000 index kit
300 pucks

so one is simpler to get, i like the quest 2 solution because its "early" wireless VR and its a niche hobbyist setup and satiates my autism and its cheaper
1k for the kit
300-500 for pucks

I'd love to see some non-standard objectives, maybe some scripted epicness scenes like taking down large facilities, involvement of spaceships of any sort, or epic charges of hundreds tens will be fine if engine is limited of mechs against each other in final battle. Dirt Rallly 2 club! Join here, you have to login with your steam account if you've never used codemasters web services before:
https://dirtrally2.dirtgame.com/clubs/club/395340

After you join, just go to "Clubs" tab in game menu and event will be available. No rewinds, no assists, no restarts, drive carefully and make sure you'll make it to the end, this is what rally is about.

Everyone welcome regardless of skill level, this game is great for learning how to manage risk so i highly recommend it to anyone who's only starting in car fun. Enjoy competition, have a fun drive, or struggle to finish the rally and be happy when you do, it's always fun regardless of your approach.

Coming back after a short episode of me being a nowheel i still have no wheel, i'll be trying to play it in VR on gamepad, kek: this week, high-revving, responsive, naturally aspirated kit cars on twisty asphalt. You can give it a shot since it's so cheap it's nearly free, I imagine it's possible to enjoy it with enough autism. Maintaining stability at high speeds will probably be nearly impossible unless you drive some kind of a high aero race car, as gamepad doesn't allow you to make any kind of fast corrections in a precise manner. You can see how you like it, and then maybe get a wheel one day if you'll like it a whole lot. Full speed competitive driving aside, I imagine driving around nice scenic places at low speeds using gamepad could be a very pleasant experience - then again, you have to be the right kind of autist for that.

Neat. Their description of how the campaign will actually work is pretty vague, but I could see it going some interesting directions. I hope it at also translates to some better capture/area control MP modes. Right now the loose deathmatch gameplay heavily favors mobility, same with the existing weird control mode they do have. Being able to defend bases or supply lines or mining exploration parties should make the fat mechs more fun. Or maybe you could be doing the mining with the mechs yourself, so there's a tradeoff between weapon mount points and mining equipment.

okay so ive looked all over, i'm just going to ask here:

does anyone who've pirated skyrim vr come across an issue where instead of the game launching when you double click the exe, it sends you to the skyrim vr page on steam? is this ine of todd's sick jokes?

i'm using a quest 2, with a quest link cable, can access steam vr and other vr games (vrc, alyx, walking dead (last two were pirated)) just fine. i haven't even installed any mods yet because both sites that I've torrented the game from yields the same result. I've scoured reddit and google and came across someone mentioning bad dlls, but I imagine that's after you've successfully launched the game and have a few mods going, right?

any help would be so appreciated.

This is what happens when you try to launch a steam game that isn't in your account/isn't cracked. Where did you acquire it from?

> but I imagine that's after you've successfully launched the game and have a few mods going, right?
Not if the steam.dll provided isn't cracked.

freepcvrgames and 1337x (i think the uploader is gog). maybe there are instructions that I'm overlooking but I'm not seeing anything. Specifically cracking instructions. GOGs games are pretty straightforward, mount, install, play.

thanks for the heads up by the way. i've been pirating steam games for years. Wasn't aware of the bad crack countermeasure.

Somewhere random on the same map unless you're in Vanno, which is the home map. The rest areas with beds on other maps don't protect you from being moved and all the enemies are replaced so it's usually dangerous.

(left grip sprint right grip is unbinded shout on face button) and removed path of sorcery other than that, i just wanna get rid of the stupid over exaggerated boob physics or whatever is making the titties ruin my immersion

Ultimate is just EnaiRim (its considered this in the niche communities who follow the mod author) mod packs with sacrilege instead of sacronant (its a lighter version same author) and path of sorcery ontop of the crap then a bunch of graphics mods and engien fixes etc. So just remove path of sorcery so it's REAL enairim and tweak the MO2 mod list, and next time

Does the combat in Into the Radius get harder later on? The walking enemies seem pretty easy to handle since they're slow as shit. I'm not really complaining, I just don't see how better weapons would be useful if they're the primary threat.
Also is it normal for objects you're holding to smear really badly? Like they're leaving a short lived trace and it makes it feel weird and laggy, especially since everything else is smooth.

No, it's polyurethane, not glued together scraps. I personally prefer the pu over silicone. When you get sweaty the silicone gets slippery and the headset slides all over unless you crank it way too tight to be comfortable. The pu leather somehow remains somewhat grippy while not being soggy like cloth.

I don't really think that could happen either given that they don't use Unity like most modded games do. Morrowind's VR mode only exists because of the openMW devs rewriting the entire engine. That said the openMW devs have run parts of Fallout 3 and Oblivion in the engine as proof of concept, so those two games could have a VR port in the future.

Mod that adds maps and a compass into the game. You start with a map of all of skyrim that only has the cities and villages marked on it, but in each hold you can buy a local hold map that gives you a more detailed view of the hold (and there's also cartographer's maps, which can only be bought from the khajiit caravans and are maps of all of skyrim with every detail filled out).
If you combine it with some other mods the author suggests you can make it so that the regular game map is inaccessible and all the quest descriptions are descriptive enough to let you complete quests without markers, so I'm only navigating using a plain map and a compass.

Anonymous No.371375283
>>371374870
Yeah it's a bit like ITR's map, except without the zoom or tabs or other trinkets. And you can holster it yes, same for the compass. They go in dagger slots and have their own custom holster designs. Something I'll mention about holstering that took me like 3 sessions to figure out, you need to be in combat mode to holster them. Unlike most weapons you can hold them in your hands even when you're not in combat mode, which makes it confusing when you can't holster them (the reason being that VRIK isn't checking the holster slots when it assumes you can't possibly have a weapon in your hand since you're not in combat mode).

yeah.. this is exactly what I dream about and it's not even that difficult of a concept to achieve imo
being able to kick open a door shouldn't be very hard as it's already a thing in some vrc maps
and from a gameplay/mechanical point of view it's not super complex either as you only have to make a static map like a hotel or whatever building you want, add AI to patrol certain rooms (can be dynamic spawns) and add simple objectives like
>kill all hostile enemies
>rescue all hostages
>retrieve all stolen weapons/drugs or whatever
basically Ready or Not but in VR
I'd put so many hours in this it's not even funny

also mechnically it could work similar to Payday2 VR: use left A while pointing at someone to intimidate them to surrender, then you'd either have:
>agrees: kneels down to restrain them
>hesitates: either yell more or subdue them with non lethal force
>disagrees: opens fire on you so you take them out

weapon mechanics i'd like to see it be similar to Onward where you can toggle on your lasers/flashlight by clicking it on the weapon itself, enable nightvision by clicking above your helm, global radio communication like in pavlov where you use your shoulder speaker or proximity chat when close enough

fuck...

Idea for a game. Addressing that many vr games just do fps guys or Melee without much complex interaction. In short: Asmetrical Gremlims game.
The catch is the gremlins explode. You and a other player most go around a house fighting gremlins and preventing them from going outside, killing you, or setting fires, or completing ritauls to summons more gremlins. There are no traditional weapons and most things break after successfully killing a gremlin. However gremlins explode into acid shortly after death. This incentivisis creative use of household objects as weapons. Grab one, stuff him in a blender, you need to plug it in and turn it on. Quick toss the blender away before it explodes.... force feed a gremlin rat poisen, quickly stuff him in a cupboard and hold it closed before it explodes.

3 players. 2 humans 1 gremlin spirit. If a gremlin gets outside in the rain, a large hand will burst through the window it exited. The gremlin player can control these hands. Occasionally the gremlin player can jump in and directly control a super gremlin. Which can use items and crawl around the walls and ceiling. Latching onto players and biting. All other gremlins are ai driven.

Gremlins can cause havoc which must be addressed. Fire alarms will alert the humans to fires set that will grow if not extinguished. They can form nests to spawn more gremlins. (A NEST IS FORMING IN THE BASEMENT) Humans must survive until dawn. They can find things like hockey gear for armor. The game should be frantic, moving furniture for barricades, using anything not nailed down to fight. Lawn mowers, Christmas lights, hairspray, toilets.

I had a stock and it felt amazing. Didn't bring any massive advantage to the table, but the overall feel was really to die for. It just removes this one layer of abstraction VR has where you're holding two independent objects mid-air instead of having them directly linked to each other, and I'd say it's really worth experiencing.

On the other hand, this:
>>371494701
If you're playing some kind of pavlov, 90% of the time you're shooting someone ~20m away while running, so you don't really need all that much precision. Stock takes away some of your mobility and some dumb things you were able to do become impossible, it's also somewhere on your body all the time so it's just a bother to have it whenever you do anything that doesn't involve it (handgun, grenade).

I'd use a stock every now and then, but I'd do it only for the feel, not for performance.

Last time i checked, good cheap option was Ender 3, but best recommendation probably changed through years. There's a 3d printing thread on /diy/, but unless you're interested in 3d printing specifically, you're probably better off ordering a print online, from someone who offers printing for a fee. 3d printers are not as straightforward as end user would want them to be, you need to calibrate them, for bigger prints you need some kind of controlled environment or there's a risk that simple blow of cold air will warp your print, it's lots of effort. So, if all you want is a blender -> plastic converter, i'd recommend looking for someone who prints stuff online instead, it saves you from having to buy a printer, it saves you from having to learn how to use it, and i doubt the extra fee for a printer guy is going to be all that high.

I like those rest moments in Skyrim, it makes it very immersive. If I'm too far from a town I use one of the campfire mods to set up in a dungeon or somewhere scenic and cook some food, talk to a companion or listen to one of the books I picked up using the audiobook mod.

Catch & Release has to be the best VR fishing game I've played. It really has a lot going for it in terms of VR interactivity and the exploration you can do. The rod physics are not that realistic and some things are dubious (Fishing with cheese). But all the little touches like the events you can see like the planes and some of the cool pieces of equipment you can get like the scale to manually verify if you are better off catching or releasing really add to the immersion of the game.

Got my first headset friday, played a little bit wired and it was fun but not as freeing as I expected despite having a long enough cable and a somewhat large playing space. Got a router to play wireless today and it's really a lot more enjoyable. Even with enough space I probably still had the wire on the back of my head, figuratively. Now I have no problem with crouching or leaning around and looking at my surroundings.
I thought people say you can only play VR for a couple hours max because they got tired but turns out it's just the skin irritation and eye strain, though the irritation can be fixed easily with a third party padding I guess.

Regardless it's tons of fun and I hope there's more games with the same interactivity as Alyx in the future.

I think its important to be flexible and adaptable in combat. while the rigidity of the stock makes it really nice and stable for rifle shooting, if you wanted to do any thing else then it becomes very cumbersome. Maybe if it were tracked it would be easier to use. But with practice and a little ingenuity you can get about 80% stocked stability by just bracing your trigger hand on your forward elbow.

Cigarettes. You can smoke as many of them at once as you want and they restore sleep and hunger. A small amount but when you're carrying a light pack of 20 and smoke 6 at once to refill 3 bars of hunger and sleep, you'll do better than chugging 3 cans of stalkeraide and an entire small can of beef stew. You can eat beyond your meter too so keep that in mind before you head out. The cans of food are too heavy to carry all the time so stash it somewhere in the radius that you'll often go past on your way back out from a mission or hotspot and stop in there after or before a mission. The safehouses are usually in a good spot but I tend to put them in offices and small rooms and make my own safehouses.

Are you using the raw foam pad that the quest comes with or did you put the silicone cover they give you on it? I find basically no irritation with that on.
As for cabled, it's indeed much nicer to be wireless but I found that running the cable properly behind your head also massively improves the wired experience. Initially I just had it hanging off the side and it was constantly in the way and it probably wasn't healthy for the cable or port either.

Energy drinks are good for restoring fatigue but they're heavy; leave stashes on them on maps. Generally you should never be sleeping past the early game.Just fatigue restore and spend the extra time awake to loot more. Kill during the day, loot during the night. No sleep, ever.

Honestly it depends on the headset. With the Vive Pro I had a lot of eye strain which made it rough. With the Reverb G2 I can actually go for hours at a time which makes big games like Skyrim better than the flat version for me. As pointed out different facial coverings can help. It can also depend on how sweaty the game is. Playing Beat Saber isn't enough to tucker me out, but it is enough for my pleather face gasket to get gross and making me get the thing wiped off.

You need to shoot yourself in the head once early on, then you need to walk off a ledge once and you need to shoot yourself "IRL" (in the context of the game") at the end. I don't mind something like the H3VR guy not having humans in his game because of his personal sensibilities because the game is light hearted by design so whatever, but the whole fucking point of superhot's story is fucked up shit like that. It's biggest advantage are hall sensors for all axes, and seperate linear replaceable springs with VERY smooth motion and adjustable force. X56 has single ball and spring system, which will sprain your hand and have uneven force response, and will have slight, but super annoying, lock in in the middle.

pavlov is lots of rapid movements and rewards fast gameplay and rushing, where the extra weight is useless at worst and annoying at best
onward has super long engagement ranges and rewards precision, so the stability is a huge advantage, and the loss of flick speed isn't a big deal at all
and you'll never use anything but rifles so its never really just hanging unused

Standalone will be standard-ish, for sure. We've already got half the VR companies side-eying Facebook because of it, and the vast majority of normalfags don't have gaming PCs.
I guess that'd also depend on if (haha) the GPU market finally unfucks itself.

Uhh, all wireless headsets will come with bigger batteries standard, and hopefully with proper air/water cooling.
Eye tracking will be vastly more common, but not standard, likely due to privacy concerns.
Good chance of there being more sensors on the controllers, like what FB is doing with the Quest "3".
Screen res will be higher than the Quest 2, but not by much on the standard headsets. FoV will be a bigger priority for the manufacturers instead, since that's still one of the biggest complaints people have.

Anonymous No.371628859 Replies: >>371628996

thats why VTOL has a plastic rubber ducky tier flight model though. because motion controls suck ass and you have no tactile feedback about where the stick actually is relative to its neutral position so it has to be very forgiving so you dont lose track of whats going on and fuck up
you're getting hung up on some tiny superficial detail and not enjoying some of the best VR games over it, not that VTOL isnt great, but its far less about the actual feeling of flying than games like il-2 or DCS and more about just having an easier learning curve for the other aspects of flying due to it being easier to interact with items in the cockpit besides the joystick and throttle
the only reason they havent bothered adding support for a hardware joystick and throttle for VTOL VR is because most peoples desks would block them from half the other stuff in the cockpit anyway, which is the point of the game
also if you had a FFB joystick you'd feel the stick starting to go loose when you begin to stall out, and other effects like that which make it a lot easier to fly

the difference between motion controls and a force feedback peripheral is like the difference between trying to have sex with the air or a real woman

you can put your HOTAS in the same position if you care enough to get a chair with mounts or whatever

also DCS supports motion controllers so you can have it on your hand and use your throttle at the same time granted your throttle handle isnt super big. then you can take your hand off throttle and interact with the cockpit. or if you're the copilot in an ah-64 or f14 you could optimally just use two motion controllers i think

as in the tech? no where exciting. I feel like we're reaching a point in the curve where innovation is becoming a lot slower to overcome, especially since there's a lot of easy money for publishers to make. (new predatory microtransactions methods; only $19.99 for this amazing new wall in rock climbing VR, $5.99 for a new pair of rock climbing gloves!)

>integrated eye tracking as a standard in all headsets?

As long as standards like the quest 2 are being sold at a loss, highly doubt we'll see anything like this for another generation or two.

Vox Machinae is really fucking cool actually. You can see the devs put some fucking soul and work into the game. They went beyond the usual low-quality looking VR games with shitty 2 menus and crap like that. The mechas have actual physics, you have to strip armor of them, the cockpit is immersive as fuck.
I wish more devs would put as much effort in their games.

It's not great yet, but it could be with some improvements.

Gunplay is weak. Terrible feedback from your guns, and I don't see any advantage for burst fire, so you've got to charge every shot to do any actual damage. Poor feedback for when your gun reloads, besides looking at a number. There should be guns that stack effects and reward lots of shots, or guns that reward slower charged shots. Maybe some that reload faster if you draw from MP? We have few meaningful choices in combat except what's not on cooldown.

The level progress badge needs be a quarter its size and really just attached to your left wrist. Your skills should be stuck to your right wrist instead of floating around.

The guns all look like I'm playing Yugioh. I want some revolvers or something. Hell, they need cosmetics all over the place, and soon.

Cooking can fuck off. It's not fun and I'm not consuming food so I don't see the point. Why should it have a dedicated UI and not just be a station in cooldown spots like the upgrade and crafting stations?

It's not bad but it could be so much better.
