Is using cutout to hide parts of an outfit better or worse than making them a different mesh? My outfit has variations and I do togglr between them. By default, the avatar uses blendshapes to hide some parts and bring new ones to the front but this causes clipping in fbt.

Depends how many parts of that outfit you need to hide and if they share the smae material with each other.

If they're all one material it's better to use cutout.
If the object you want to hide is a different material it's better to make it a separate mesh you can hide.

I think parts of the facebook Metaverse is a good idea.
If you think about it, it's basically the same as the loved and popular steam vrChat.
But it's for people on facebook, which is like 9 out of 10 people who live in a first world country.
So the question is why do people hate it when the love steam vrChat which is basically the same thing?
Well there are several reasons.
1, facebook social, tracking, log ins, ads and junk.
2, the graphics look worse then nintendo land with the nintendo mii's.

The absolute cheapest would be something like a quest with a kinect or something but that would be terrible. You could get an old vive and htc trackers but at this point vives are increasingly hard to find and outdated enough that its not really sensible to buy one
You can run a hybrid setup with a quest hmd and htc trackers but this is less than ideal and if you are buying the base stations anyway honestly just get an index
The index is still the king of vr it really has no major weak points except arguably the cable
If you buy anything else you will eventually either just buy an index (or whatever is better) or drop vr entirely
People have used all sorts of setups over the years and almost everyone just grabs an index+htc trackers eventually, maybe tundras will become the new standard but theyre still unavailable to buy unless you kickstarted
