I need some advice. My Valve Index is giving me a huge headache. So first of all setup: My two base stations are about 2.5 meters up in the ceiling level. Too high? I already drilled holes...

I'm asking because the screen goes grey multiple times during a session. Sometimes I spot one of the base stations going "off". I don't know if they are broken.

Steam support promised new controllers but you never know. I still haven't received them. Also they are sending a new cable too. I don't know if those will fix it but I'll see once I have them.

Also the headset; During BeatSaber I can't get it to be comfortable at all. I think my headshape isn't a typical one where you guys have gurth at the back of your head, I don't. This means the headset pressure is right on my temples and I get a migrane easily.

Also working out in VR I often just feel like the headset never sits properly. If I make the Index super tight it still moves around during BeatSaber. Is this normal or is there a way to fix it? I already got a VR Cover for the back. This didn't help but keeps it clean I guess? Also are the Knuckle or Index Controllers bad for BeatSaber? They seem to be. I even got a wire suspension thing but nothing ever seems to make VR feel comfortable. I think this is just because the Valve Index headset is so heavy and my headshape different than normal? I don't fucking know.

This happened during BeatSaber and I tried that. They still were like misaligned and both to my right, of my hands. Turning them off via the button didn't fix it but using SteamVR menu to turn them off did. It's still so annoying because the grey flashes seem to make it worse and worse and in BeatSaber you don't notice a slight misalignment and it causes you to miss notes. It just feels like my VR experience got worse once I got a bigger room, not better.

Ignore the face gasket. I've got 2 spares ones and that one just hangs there to dry.

My motherboard has a USB slot at the back that says "VR ready". I don't know what PCIE you're talking about. I have the headset plugged into an RTX 2080 and USB goes into that VR ready 3.0 USB slot. I know what PCI slot is. I don't know what changing those would do since the Index isn't typically plugged into them or am I mixing up slots here? I don't think I've needed to update my bios ever. Couple hours into Wanderer, I'm starting to feel bad for pirating it. For the longest time I've wanted more point-and-click style adventure games in VR, and this is providing that. There's some occasional clunkiness to the interactions (accidentally removed the watch from the upgrade station because of sensitive grip a few times), but it's feeling like a proper adventure through time. And the story isn't special yet still cohesive and well done, solid voice-acting. Almost feels like a '90s adventure game. I often use the bone method but setting it as a mesh is pretty good option too if you have free mesh slots.

The bone method kinda gives you more control over the animation and allows you to use dynamic bones when compared to pure blend shapes. You just need to scale the bones down in Blender before export and animate them to scale up when you toggle them so that people who have your animations off won't have them enabled by default.

Blend shapes are a bit easier for simple cases since you can have them scaled down by default and exporting is smoother.

Skinned meshes give you more control but there's only so many you can use before you become very poor... As a side note can you use a non-skinned mesh with a constraint or script or something to get around this?

16 box colliders is arguably just SLIGHTLY better. if you use a mesh collider, you will always spend the entirety inside the "bounds" of the mesh collider, which means it will always run those calculations.
that said, don't agonize too much over it, 32 tris for a mesh collider is totally fine. i would be more worried for higher poly meshes.

Well I looked at my old cable and it had a TON of use on the part that goes into the headset. I can see why they don't recommend using this system. If I plan on using it more, I'll set it up better. When you squat down it definitely pulls up on the headset and it's no fun having to set it up every time. I think a pulley system on a wall instead of the ceiling would be better, so it doesn't pull up but back. That doesn't exist though.

I just installed mine. They gave me two spare clips but yeah perhaps the velcro is better? I don't know. I have a VR cover thing that is soft as hell. I didn't notice much bent cables on that part to be honest. My wear was on the inside because I keep readjusting the headset over and over again during VR and this pushes the cable back and forth behind the gasket.
