you had to hide your name to hide who you are because you know i'd tell everyone what you did
>Zenith's new endgame is camping at the endgame area for the boss to spawn or invasion to pop up.
What was wrong with just grinding old area Events? You could bounce from one event to the next without stopping. With the current endgame, you literally have to wait in an area and then hope the zerg you're with know how to take down the boss.
How does it feel to be winning, /vrgg/?

Good Pavlov frens. I do like the leet strats that appear sometimes.
The fog in ItR is too sensitive, I've on several occasions accidentally walked into it's teleport because it was very thin and I assumed I could skirt around the edge of the map a bit.

You clearly don't know me or play pavlov then
Want to play ITR but they added TAA with the 2.0 update so it looks blurry as fuck no mater how much super sampling you do. Adding TAA sharpening is not a solution it just makes it look even worse. I play all my games with all AA off and super sampling to the moon. I want it sharp and clean or nothing.
>>372758571
This is why you think about your bomb placement. That is one of the best spots on site to plant because it's exposed to Palace, CT spawn and T entry all at once. Very useful when dealing with a 1vX.

>>372762180
yes, but there's still ton of shooter design space to cover in VR besides CS (pavlov) and cawadooty (contractors). I'd still love an actual TF2 VR (and not the shitty workshop maps in pavlov), or a floaty high-TTK halo.

His programming ability is non-existent, but he made a lot of correct choices for VR interactions that most other devs somehow fail.
the only thing i dont like about the index controllers is the built in battery
well that's not the only thing but the worst thing rather
>playing ItR
>exploring some house
>suddenly EXTREMELY loud sound of thunder out of nowhere that sounds like it landed right outside the door
You fuckers told me this game had no jumpscares
>>372765473
That's just a rift respawning enemies. It's crazy loud so you can hear it from far away.
I wish they'd bring back the weather from 1.0, there were dry thunderstorms and rolling fog that made it much more atmospheric.
>>372765473
I didn't figure out what that was, even after 40 hours until someone mentioned it last thread. There's an anomaly called a Rift that looks like a mangled human that makes electrical sounds. It will periodically spawns more enemies with a thunder sound until you destroy it. One always spawns on that roof, so it's basically a scripted event in that mission.
>>372764261
You'd rather have disposable batteries? Are you fucking mad?
Does anyone know if AAF works in Fallout 4 VR yet? I've tried searching Loverslab, but most of the posts are more than a year old, before they ported over FO4SE to the VR version.
>>372767104
>controller battery runs out
>swap to a new pair of rechargeable batteries
>put the old pair in the charger to be ready when the new pair runs empty
vs
>controller battery runs out
>have to stop and wait until the controllers recharge
>if the battery dies your controller is useless
>>372767104
You know there's rechargeable removable batteries right? Buy two sets and you both a) don't get any down time for charging controllers and b) when they get worn out over time you can buy new ones that hold their full charge again
Built in batteries will slowly but surely degrade until they're basically unusable.
>>372767528
Having had AA batteries in the original Rift, I prefer the battery pack in the Index because it doesn't brown out. The controllers last long enough that I've never had to stop playing to charge them.
>>372767736
i had quality rechargeable AAs for my rift s and never had any problems, having to stop is annoying but my main concern is battery death
>>372767528
>>372767610
Rechargeable removable batteries don't carry enough voltage to be useful.
>>372764261
I miss my OG rift controllers too, the hotswappable batteries, the overall light weight, and the explicit grip button. I'd use them over the index controllers if I could.
>>372767736
I much preferred just being able to hotswap the batteries whenever they ran out, instead of always having to remember to plug in the index controllers to charge every night. I also remember getting like 20 hours a battery anyway even on cheap 2000mAh harbor freight rechargeables. way more than ~8h on the index.
>>372768021
You can get 1.6v ones though. Try the pkcell 1.6v AAs. My main gripe with them is that the battery indicator is never accurate with them.
>>372768248
Wrong thread friend
>>372768015
They probably fixed that in the gen 2 touch controllers.
>>372768152
Index controllers use a lot more power because they calculate their own position, whereas the computer's processor had to do that with Rift. You would have to swap them every few hours if they were double As.
>>372760008
Same. I'd rather that there be no AA than everything get smeared by TAA. Thankfully FSR does let you supersample everything easily these days.

Quality weebshit soon fellow Questchads
>>372769132
According to https://www.valvesoftware.com/en/index/controllers:
>900mA fast charging, 1100mAh capacity Li-Ion polymer battery
Most AAs are 2000mAh, and some are 2.5Ah.
>>372774301
That doesn't say anything about the voltage, though. USB-C is spec'd for 5v.
>>372774301
Damn, guess it's a space issue, then.
>>372768021
Rift/Quest controllers run on a single AA rechargable, why is that voltage good enough for oculus but not index?
Someone please tell me how to set the steamvr play area when using a quest 2. The fucking niggers give you an option to go through the setup but only if the headset isn't actually connected. I guess the dumb motherfuckers though they can autodetect it based on what oculus gives them but they can't. They think my play area is like 1 square meter and it makes shit like thrill of the fight basically unplayable.
>>372750857
I'll fill out the Vox one when I finish work
t. vox shill
>>372775184
Rift controllers are far simpler. The tracking system is just LEDs that a separate camera has to see, whereas lighthouse tracking essentially has the 'cameras' all over the controllers.
>>372774884
Li-ion cells are 3.7V, so that's likely what they're using. You'd need 3 NiMH cells in series to power an Index controller which would have very poor capacity.
>>372774884
Voltage doesn't really matter for comparing capacity in mAh. I think lipo batteries are intrinsically around 3.7v compared to 1.6v on nimh, but level shifters are efficient enough anyway.
>>372775037
Probably, plus some people waggled their wrists so hard that the rift battery would temporarily disconnect, so there are downsides. I still wish for hot swapping though. I even have a whole other pair of index controllers after my warranty ran out but it's a pain to repair them.
>>372776229
Also, a 2.5Ah Li-ion cell is about 1.5 times as long and wide as a AA battery.

Welcome back racer!
EU Assetto Corsa: European Racing club season 4!
Race 18.
19:00 UTC, Monday 21st of February
We are going east, east to Vladivostok, almost in Japan. Here we will race Kartings! No bullshit, no gears, just accelerator, break, your racing line and funny people on other karts.
1 hour practice, 15 minute qualifiers, 20 lap race.
Afterwards we'll go visit German Feldbergring again, for some chill driving around German countryside, it was extremely enjoyable. Alternatively we might do some drifting in the Zmeinka track, depending on the mood.
Download mods here:
https://mega.nz/folder/jmhXSSAR#Td3s77H6DOWg5QGFVSh1Xg
-50% for Assetto Corsa Ultimate! Get it on Steam!
Assetto - can be played with wheel, controller, or steam-vr-wheel addon, it doesn't matter, we will all have fun driving together. If you just bought Asseto - grab Assetto Corsa Content Manager - a better launcher: https://assettocorsa.club/content-manager.html and a mod installer (just drag and drop zip files from mega).
For communication we'll use mumble at voice.vrg.party port 64738.
You don't have to download the client, you can use webclient at https://voice.vrg.party/?address=voice.vrg.party/demo&port=443
Push to talk works globally only using desktop client, desktop client is more configurable, highly recomend to get it, no need for any accounts, just join server and talk

How do we make ITR morecomfy
What upcoming VR games are you guys looking forward to? Personally I'm hoping to see Gambit deliver on it's 20+ hour 4-player co-op campaign as After the Fall is real disappointing in the content department.
>>372804296
https://uploadvr.com/gambit-vr-co-op-shooter-re-revealed/
huh, from the devs of zero caliber. I don't have high hopes given how janky ZC's coop campaign is, but the aesthetic at least seems more interesting than cawadooty.
>>372805729
I'd be cool with a more polished Zero Caliber with the silly costumes, grafitti etc. they have shown as long as it delivers on actually having lotsa content. Zero Caliber is criminally unfinished with Quest getting all of the new updates, but as Gambit doesn't seem to be an early access title I have hope that it'll deliver what's promised. Thankfully I got ZC for next to nothing as part of a Humble Bundle, it was a fun few hours of shooting chicagoans.
Do you have an ammo limit in pavlov?
>>372801550
Oh this is easy. Put in campfires, but then sitting near a campfire regens stamina and a little bit of your sleepiness so players actually have a reason to chill there for a bit.

>>372801550
The number one thing it needs is a simple radio station for the base. That would counteract the tense and atmospheric zone immediately. Most of the music we have does the exact opposite, making the ghostly base even creepier. I would prefer if the tension and atmosphere was focused in the radius itself with the base made more comfy even if a little melancholic.
Everyone who has played a lot of STALKER games or mods knows how welcoming tracks like these can feel as you return to trader.

I dunno why people thought zenith would last. Here's a hard fact. Games NEED to look good and appealing. They don't have to have 4k graphic but they NEED strong art direction. I took one look and Zenith and knew instantly it'd flop in a month. The games art style looks like what comes up if you go on shutter stock images and type in "fantasy character". It just looks so visually uninspired with everyone doing the League of Ledgends lazy design of "anime character with gold bits on them"

>>372760008
You can remove it like this.
>>372825134
Not him, but thanks anon. TAA is a menace when you can use SGSSAA+supersampling in VR instead. For a game like ITR where you want to see in the distance clearly, blurring everything is just not cool. Glad that it's easy to turn off.

In into the radius what is a good pistol to save for? I just put a durability and silencer upgrade on my makarov but 8 shots per magazine is a bit shit, the GSH looks great or should I just transition into a 9x19?
>>372835131
The m9 is technically the best. You'll br shooting way more ammo than you find regardless which gun you use. But the m9 does the most damage per shot.
>>372835548
Cool, thanks. Also is there a reason to ever hang onto multiple empty ammo boxes? I have like 3 empty 9x18 boxes just sitting in that locker at home base

>>372835131
OC33 is great because it has a huge mag and a full auto switch. 9x18 ammo is cheap so you can use it as an oh fuck button in the mid game when you're mostly using long guns but 19x8FMJ isn't yet obsolete. The sights are garbage compared to the other guns so it's not great early game in my opinion. Still, if you can afford it, grab it earlier rather than later.

>>372849594
>Dave
Lead pavlov dev.
He made a bunch of accidentally correct decisions and has been caught doubling down on stupid a bunch.
>>372849594
This is the problem. People think they want Onward until they've played VRFPS games for long enough that they realize it does almost everything terribly.
>>372823634
100% agreed. not to mention Zenith’s other problems like a shitty crowded tutorial area, busy HUD UI, or town NPCs you clip through who don’t react to you and who you can’t interact with at all
>>372849730
dave lost the buy wheel in the code once and had to spend months finding it, its why the game took a long ass time to add any new weapons to buy wheels
>>372849819
Can you elaborate? I’ve put a few hours into Pavlov, many hours into Population One, and a bit of time into Saints and Sinners, and I still vastly prefer Onward’s gun controls and equipment vest setup.
>>372849730
Thanks. I’ve played Pavlov a little and didn’t really like it, the bullet sponge feeling wasn’t for me after playing lots of Onward and even Pop One. What do you think Dave got right that other games fucked up on?
>>372850217
All he's done right so far is add workshop support. He made a basic counterstrike VR game with workshop support while being invested in making a ww2 shooter. It's dumb
>>372850075
You have to play various games for about 50 hours to understand it. Unironically, if I tell you, you'll just disagree because you have no idea what you're talking about. There's a reason there are never Onward lobbies hosted any more.
>>372850326
its gmod vr theres others game modes besides search like TTT jailbreak etc.you moron
>>372850326
There's a lot that people take for granted. We could have had 'hold trigger to arm/disarm bomb'. We could have had 'hold A to open your inventory' and the gun glued to your hand. It sounds basic, but the number of devs that put that kind of shit in the game is unreal.
>>372850372
>There's a reason there are never Onward lobbies hosted any more.
it got clapped by the quest support
>>372850527
It was already dead by then. The only reason there were ever lobbies is because Pavlov was completely unplayable before the damage model and accuracy were changed.
>>372850372
>There's a reason there are never Onward lobbies hosted any more.
What? I play Onward probably every other day, there are several pages of lobbies up nearly all the time.
> Unironically, if I tell you, you'll just disagree because you have no idea what you're talking about
I’ve put hundreds of hours into many different VR games. didn’t realize you got off on being withholding, kindly fuck off and die
>>372849594
>Design choices like what?
General weapon handling and control scheme (grab to hold, trigger to interact, which baffles me to this day that some vr devs can't get right)
>>372850404
All these extra game modes come from workshop mods you dolt. Ones integrated into pavlov now (like push) came first from modders who made workshop maps for them and then dave made a copy and put it in the game.
YOU are the moron.
>>372850745
>workshop
just like in gmod you fucking nonce
>>372850631
This is what Onward does too with e.g. bolt handle, grenade pins, C4 detonators etc. I agree it feels natural and should be the industry standard
>>372850619
you're not wrong but this also doesnt contradict anything i said
>>372850628
I say it because I would not have understood even my own current arguments four years ago. It's something you have to learn for yourself.
>>372850986
stop being a faggot and just say what you like about pavlov
>>372850807
The one that comes into my mind where this is the biggest problem is H3VR, since you operate everything with grab, which makes using some of the weapons where the bolt and the grip is too close fucking awful.
>>372851243
I tried H3VR and hated it, too fiddly and autistic with subpar default control mappings.
>>372851116
I'll give an example then. The Onward inventory ends up ironically being less realistic than Pavlov's because of the limitations of VR. You can't use it without looking down because the controllers have no tactile feedback and due to the lack of a body tracker the body's position does not match your own. Pavlov's simplified system of huge hitboxes on the side and back makes grabbing things from your own body as trivial as reality, rather than an overly precise task that you can repeatedly fail in a way that is impossible in reality.
I have a mission in ItR to take out a rift, but it's invisible or some shit. I've searched the marked area and beyond and it's just not visible anywhere, all I get are the occasional claps of it's asscheeks
>>372851731
Rifts only respawn with a tide, it's possible you've already destroyed it
Btw same is true for the quest artifacts, you can just preview the mission at your base, memorize where they are, grab both the rifts and the artifacts in the same run and just turn both quests in after each other (and a third side mission that you can finish during your trip)
>>372851985
I 100% haven't destroyed it yet, I've only killed a few mimics and a spaghetti ball. And I know I haven't destroyed it because it keeps spawning shit.
>>372852061
That's strange then, can you hear it when nearby? It's possible it spawned somewhere else in the area

You should be able to use the artifact detector to find it.

The train station in the first area. It's supposed to be around the main building.
>>372852406
It's probably on the top floor. There are stairs at the back of the building.
>>372852406
There are a couple of small brick buildings with big metal doors to the north of it, one of them can be a spawn point for it

that AK is a straight imported left handed model from CS 1.6, it doesn't have the other side modelled, so it's awkward to handle right handed.

>>372865681
it's just a random VRC world with de_dust2 in it and CS 1.6 models in it, I'm not importing de_dust and GoldSrc models just to make some funny posters.
I normally don't care for shooter with an emphasis on "realistic guns". But in VR I find games like onward, pay and PopOne super fun. However I'm not a gun nut and my brain has 0 interest in memorizing the differences between six slightly diffrent variants of assault rifle. I really wish more games went the TF2/Halo/Tribes direction with weapons being entirely diffrent.
Is there a run down of "typical normie fps guns in fps" chart somewhere for someone who has not spent years playing CoD or CS memorizing super forgettable gun names that are as memorable as default wifi passwords? I love PopOne but when it comes to grabbing SMGs and Assault rifle I never know wtf I'm looking at until I shoot it. I really hate guns being just variations of an AK 20 times.
>>372876247
Why would you need to know this if you don't care? Most games just tell you this gun does 8 damage that gun does 9, don't really need to know more than that
>>372801550

should food/energy drink have any other effect than sating your hunger/replenishing your rest?
with energy drinks a boost to the amount of stamina/stamina regeneration?
>>372882312
Energy drinks should significantly increase your stamina regeneration rate for a while to give them more of a purpose.
>>372843869
I think Demeo is worth the asking price now, it's really polished. Valheim is good too.
>>372882312
Not really. I'd be fine with it even if they had zero effect, I smoked cigarettes for ages before I realized they actually did something. It's better for them to actually do something of course, but you'd probably find yourself snacking on shit even without the need to.
Is it any cheaper to fix guns yourself rather than dropping them into the repair box in ItR? I get the appeal of doing a little repair ritual every time you come back home, but fuck that oil is expensive and runs out quick.
>>372883970
If you keep your weapons blue, then yes, it's worth it because the paper and ramrod currently never run out. You should stash them at hideouts so you can clean your weapon in the field and prevent it ever becoming yellow. Oil and brush is completely imbalanced. It takes way too long, is unclear what you're meant to do, if it even worse consistently at all, and at best you save only a small amount of money but will more likely waste enormous amounts buying oil.
>>372884584
Can the ramrod+TP keep a weapon in blue forever? I feel like I can never get it to 100% with just the ramrod and I'm not sure if that little sliver stacks up over time.
>>372843869
Get Bean Stalker. It has a decent amount of content (Took me 25 hours to 100% it) and it's getting co-op in a month. It's a genuinely unique inverted dungeon crawler.
>>372885692
I'm still mad I couldn't climb down
>>372883970
Repair box is better than buying oil.
Using the oil you find in the radius is better than selling it to offset repair box costs. Maybe save it for a gun with expensive repair costs or a lot of damage.
Don't bother trying to repair magazines yourself, just box them.
If you loot extra TP and ramrods you can leave them in the radius to create a little repair stash for keeping your weapons in the blue.
>>372882709
I used to think they did this because that's what they did in stalker. Would chug a drink right as I entered the zone and start sprinting but when I actually tested it I realised I was wrong. I think they're fine as is. Food and those non-combat supplies are better left hoarded in safehouses than carried. They're really heavy and you'll never need them in a pinch. Carrying a box of cigarettes just in case you're running back close to tide is about all you need.
I've been spending a lot of time thinking about what I'm going to do in the evenings on ITR while I wageslave recently. Haven't been this engrossed in a game in a long time.
>>372885362
Yes, it never loses durability.

Tutorial area isn't crowded anymore, that only happened because it was release day. Beginning areas for a lot of MMOs will be crowded on the release date. The UI is just horrendous and a pain though.
The biggest problem for Zenith is that it's just a basic cookie cut MMO and now they introduced a new endgame that is a bad part of any basic MMO.
>>372876247
VR makes it easier to tell guns apart since you actually need to know where the magazine and charging handle is, instead of just hitting a button to reload, as well as how the iron sights look. No real point at staring at a chart though when you can try them all out and see how they feel yourself in game, then you'll eventually recognize the silhouettes in game menus.
>>372895004
Being so barebones hurts it's endgame a lot but some of it is by design. For the entire game the only thing to do is grind rehashed content to fill an XP bar and get arbitrarily higher stat gear. It's funny that tears, a mechanic they added late into development after seeing how fun gliding was, actually feel like a more rewarding goal than anything else in the game. They stuck far too close to dated MMO convention without backing it up with shiny trinkets to keep people motivated.
>>372895004
Glad I didn't buy into the hype then. Maybe in a year it'll have player made content or whatever they promised that'll make it a better deal.

I find it really interesting how long it take humans to get rid of hold over shit when technology changes. Like fax machines which have absolutely no purpose. We are still in the phase of VR like when the wii came out, granted, this time "fast but with new tech" is actaully more fun. It took a long time for "lives" to go away or evolve in games to things like Dark Souls with losable assets.

No Man's Sky is getting another expansion. This is a great game in VR if you haven't tried it yet. Very much a seated experience. Quite comfy.
https://youtu.be/HEJfPZPTYRA
>>372977436
Seated experiences are nice, but someone give me some heavy workout games that aren't actually workout themed. Blade and Sorcery used to be that until I figured the 3 moves that the AI has and how to counter them without much flailing.

The game only renders everything in the forward arc. If you turn around you'll find all the LOD distance has been cut massively so all the trees become sticks. There are other odd orientation issues too when playing 360 degrees.
If I play a VR game standing up I wont use thumbstick turning ever and I often disable that stick in steam input mapping. I want to use my body to turn. If I can't I'll just sit down

Is there an actual date given for Project Wingman 1.5? I'm waiting for the update to finally give the game a whirl.
I have two issues for your consideration:
1) Weekday meetups. Aside from a handful of the usual suspects and some weekly events like pypy, I've noticed that weekdays are usually pretty scarce. Some people have mentioned to me that they'd like more lively weekday meetups, what do people think about that? Is there a day people would want to try to designate and organize a larger weekday meetup?
2) Cyberpunk March. Besides the normal outfits, people have said to me that they'd like a rerun of the vox tournament event. I've still got the map but interest is important. Talented people helped a lot last year and we need players too. In fact, most importantly, we need a decent number of people willing to show up and play vox? Do people really want to do this again? Please let me know either here or in discord, we've got a bit of time before March but it's the kinda thing where I'll need people to commit ahead of time too.

I personally like it. It kind of reminds me of the alchemy minigame in Kingdom Come if you've played that. Balancing multiple recipes to make them all efficiently is a skill and is something you get better at over time. You can get all sorts of cool kitchen gadgets to help out, and they are still adding new free content+ a DLC on the way. I know that people bitched about it getting VRGOTY last year on Steam, but honestly it was the most worthy title out of the nominees. Worth it on sale IMO.

How's the physics and the handling? Lot of early reviews mention that it's janky or even straight up bad, was there any improvement regarding it?
>>373168365
They did patch that fairly early on. Nothing twitches around like Havok physics or whatever. You can carry items around on a platter and everything works as it should. My only gripe is that cutting, while feeling physically fine, isn't entirely open ended. You cut cut at any width, but not at any angle. Having worked in a kitchen before I kind of wanted to be able to realistically carve a pinneapple, but it's nothing that gets in the way of gameplay.

Do you guys close one eye when aiming or no
>>373171129
Generally no. I might partially close one eye if it's a scope because some games don't render the magnified image at full resolution so the wrong eye can become dominant.
>>373171129
I'm trying to break the habit but it is very difficult. Squinting with my non-dominant eye helps but in very tense situations I lose all focus and am forced to close one eye. I spent like 30 minutes in the Pavlov firing range practicing and then it all fell apart during the action.

My trick is basically to let your headset heat up before you put it on. Tape a very small piece of paper so it dangles above the sensor. This will keep the headset on. Now throw a shirt or towel over the headset so it heats up. Pretty annoying to have to do this like 10 mins before you want to play, I dunno why there isn't an option for "stay the fuck on when I remove my headset" yay, a fucking black screen if I want to scratch my forehead.

I want a vr game where you are a timberman on a slope. A colossal beast is climbing to get you and you must chop trees so they fall on the beast. Trees are fully simulated down to which way they fall based on cuts. You can partially cut tree to set up cascading tree falls or to set traps. The beast can and will sexaully assault you. You can use chains saws, axes and even gasoline to start fires, but a full on forrest fire will eventually kill you. The player character is very curious how the beast titty milk tastes. Is Synth Riders just Beat Saber but without the slashing?
>>373264219
Pretty much.
>>373264219
The notes are small and you have to hit them directly with your hands so high level play requires moving more, rather than less as in Beat Saber where the only way is fully optimized wrist waggling because it flicks the long blades across the entire playspace. There's also other mechanics like rails, either hand or both hand notes, and a lot of modifiers that can be played on any map, instead of requiring a map to be made specifically to play a certain mode.
>>373264686
That actually sounds pretty cool, what's the music like?

This will continue to be a problem until there's a standard method of body orientation tracking. Also, the inability to lean, and teleporting onto things if you move just you head over them.

>>373279068
Dedicated server. There's a few ways we can do it but a server that syncs everything and is run each session is simplest. Used like that it essentially becomes a co-op VR RPG with the server saving progress. We can run a server 24 hours MMO-like but it requires regular world/cell resets if different people want to do the same quest or kill the same guy and that brings other obvious problems.
>>373278270
I'd be interested, although I haven't tried morrowind vr yet. How would communication work? Just through the in-game text chat?

I find it easier to throw in ItR, except when I'm trying to hit a target at the base and the dart gets magnetized to a spot about 2 feet to the left of where I'm aiming.
>>373290113
Yeah I can't throw for shit in VR too, but that's probably due to shitty wmr tracking. Games should just show you an arc and let you push a button to throw.
>>373290113
Throwing in VR is hard because it's not consistent in my opinion. The release grip timing feels different in every game and tracking isn't perfect at higher speed either so I prefer to push throw instead.

>>373305035
I tried VR development but gave up when I tried using the SteamVR Unity plugin and found a million lines of code doing god knows what with no useful documentation anywhere. Also, every VR development tutorial was essentially 'how to make your hand a gun that makes firing effects' and nothing beyond that. Seems like you either have to be extremely good at Unity or heavily reliant on the assets of others, unlike flat games where it's feasible to do everything yourself.
>>373305035
What makes you abandon so many ideas? I've tried my hand at VR game dev but the things I made either felt too derivative, making heavy use of prefab frameworks or required a lot of work on non-VR mechanics to the point where maybe it was less risk to just make a flat game instead. It was easy to come up with ideas but hard to come up with ones I was willing to risk time and money on.
Also like the previous anon said, not enough documentation or examples to learn from made dealing with some of the quirks of VR frustrating for an amateur.
>>373312620
Pretty much like you said.. I'd come up with an easy idea, prototype it, sometimes it'd even be fun.. but it's a lot, A LOT of effort to actually make a completed game. Especially VR, especially as one guy. It just doesn't make sense on a practical level, even though I still have an urge to make a VR game.

As loath as I am to bring it up in this thread again, consider taking the vrch*t dev pill. As shitty as udon is, it's still powerful enough to build out plenty of stupid prototypes, and you get all of the VR boilerplate, character controller rig and movement, avatars, multiplayer servers, and voice chat, all for free.
And most importantly, you can actually get people to try out your prototypes, since they're all already wearing a headset and hanging out with their friends, and even if your prototype is really simple or broken, you can still have a laugh watching your friends try it, and drop a portal to the next world, no downtime. Compare this to downloading a sketchy .exe, launching steamvr, putting on the headset, trying to record or take screenshots. or more likely, just squinting at your shitty prototype graphics and deciding it's not even worth downloading.
>>373316664
This but with S&box. Much better engine, much better tools, much better networking, if you submit something to the Gmod workshop you'll be given access to the beta. VRChat's dogshit networking and engine hamper it too much to make actual games sadly. Not everyone has Valve's technical expertise I suppose.

>>373317476
I wish it wasn't this way. In theory SteamVR home could have made it as easy and frictionless to jump between games with friends, but valve devs have short attention spans. WebVR could have been good too but it died with Mozilla back in 2019.

>>373212680
VRChat needs a proper toolgun to qualify
>>373319070
I made a really janky sdk2 tank back in 2019 yeah. I think udon could support a pretty good tank game these days, though taking it from a few prototype tanks you can drive around to a full on game with damage model and scoring and stuff would be nontrivial.
>>373320025
weird way of gating invites. I'd be interested in checking it out but I don't want to have to go back to gmod and figure out how to submit a cube to the workshop for it.
>>373318105
Had it a few times, but it stopped by itself eventually. Another few times it dropped midgame, but resolved itself afterwards. Weird shit going on.
>>373320869
Preventing people clipping through the sides of the tank is the biggest challenge, I think.
>>373322694
I don't think that's the biggest challenge, but it is one of many. One technique I think would work is to have the tank prism windows write to the stencil buffer, then draw an opaque mesh around the tank with a stencil test not equal to the window stencil write. That way if you try to poke your head out the side you just see the opaque mesh, but looking through the windows are correctly transparent. Can do the same trick with a stencil-writing dome around open hatches. A player could still playspace move beyond the opaque mesh, but for that you can do a simpler bounds check and force the player back in their seat.

Kholkoz has a couple of areas with large numbers of mimics and finally we get multiple sliders at once. The BTR is a great addition as a roaming enemy you have to avoid as it adds some tension back into the game.
Maybe it's just me having 40+ hours in the game but 2.0 feels easier apart from the mimics. No early game sliders, fragments and phantoms aren't numerous enough and barely seem to notice gunfire, seekers aren't scary at all and spawns are only a problem when you're busy fighting mimics or in the middle of an anomaly field. I remember moments in 1.0 where going loud felt like I just rang the dinner bell on myself. Maybe it's the same number of enemies but I just spot them easier without the abundance of foliage that 1.0 had.

I made an attempt at an udon tank when it first came out and sort of solved it like this: You create a post-processing zone that's outside the boundaries of the hull and only active when a player is seated inside the tank. It's shaped like a box with a tank-shaped cavity inside of it. If a camera (eg the player's head) leaves the cavity and enters the zone the post blinds them. It's not perfect in this video because i stopped working on the tank before fine-tuning the PP transition but the principle is fine.

Anyone played Elite: Dangerous in VR recently? Wondering if it’s still a keyboard-required mess of a control scheme, or if they’ve added VTOL VR-style motion controller inputs. VTOL is best-in-class UI for cockpit games for people without HOTAS, IMO
I just tried ROR2 VR and it was incredibly difficult to do anything due to the fact you end up gripping the index controllers out of habit. Do you think that swapping the controls to the pad next to the joysticks would be a lot more deliberate, and therefore way less accidents?
>>373399764

>>373408324
I use my modem's wifi but my PC is connected by wire. Works perfectly. I don't know what ISPs even still issue a box without 5Ghz wifi anymore.
>>373436972
Pavlov, probably. It's the only one where you're not fighting with the controls to some extent.
>>373436972
Depends on your preferred style. Onward is king for realism. Population One is good for arcade-style blasting. For action movie gunplay there’s Pistol Whip or Superhot (latter is in slow-mo). Pavlov is just OK in my opinion. H3VR sucks ass.
>>373436972
I liked into the radius' gunplay the most. Not so much because it's objectively the best but because each hit feels the most earned.
>>373437318

The little orb things on the model for grabbing? on index they are a little small and too close together yeah. the dev finally added a different controller scheme so that the buttons are used more often instead of the touchpad. Despite that I really just like the touchpad controls probably because I've gotten used to them.
>pick up bean stalker after seeing it mentioned here a lot

>>373441364
The game was terrifying for me too. Using the Index controllers was rough as my fear induced palm sweat made my hands permanently grasped half of the time. You'll get over it though and be swinging around like a ninja soon enough thanks to the basic grappling hook negating fall damage.
>>373436972
I like After the Fall as weapons actually have weight. Pavlov and H3VR make the cardinal sin of having guns made out of styrofoam.
I survived that planting the bomb in the factory mission
>>373428065
Gyro steering is super based. It works with the Switch controllers too, and even the PS3 controller if you make steam thing it's a PS4 controller. When I get my Steam Deck I see myself playing lotsa BeamNG on the go that way.

I found the AUG, I guess, but nothing since then. I know there's an AKM and shotgun on the Factory, but I only have one note that talks about a hangar, which I'm not sure is either of those. I also had one about a truck, but I realized I'd probably already found that in the village map.
>>373449729
I made about 4000 bucks from doing a heavy helix mission in bolotky and finding some artifacts to sell and that gave me a lot of cash to spend on ammo so I decided to just do the mission and get up to level 4. Now I have $16,000 monies burning a hole in my pocket. I found a mag for an M4 in the factory so I guess that's a sign of what my next gun will be.
>>373450950
There's no M4 stash if you're hoping to find one.
Just finished Alyx, overall is was great but in my opinion it was really lacking some punch regarding the gun selection and maybe adding some melee combat. Also needed some variety in the puzzles if they planned on having this many.
The ending is a major cocktease too considering the next HL game is probably going to be no sooner than 2030.
Airlink is getting really annoying to play with. I keep getting a warbling image, or it will freeze to a crawl and then fast-forward all at once. It has to be the router that's behind a wall, but fuck me, there's just no way I can put it in my room and wifi repeaters are shit for this. Guess it's time to shelf ItR and dust off the ol' RE4VR.

You're still using your real eyes so it should work. I've been flashbanged by the overlay enough times to know they still try to adjust to low light. Green should do the opposite and help your eyes adjust to bright light. So red if you're expecting it to continue being dark after turning it off or green if you're expecting it to be bright. Also apparently the spawns are scared of the red light? I haven't tested that though because I just use my trusty headlamp.

>>373489885
They're all good and well worth finding. The notes are saved in your map book after you've picked them up.
>>373464805
will do when we get the server up. we were testing over the last week to figure out bugs that needed immediate fixes and figure out what mods we needed for a decent vr experience.
we found that better balanced combat makes the game way too easy especially in multiplayer and cranking the server difficulty up just makes enemies one hit us so no fun. so we dropped the combat mods and are just going with patch for purists (vanilla bugfixes), expansion delay (keeps people from getting spammy tribunal assassin spawns at the start), and no misc skill progression (characters can no longer be good at everything, and specialize in their chosen class).
we considered tamriel rebuilt but that requires a more involved setup such as registering bsa files and a larger modlist to juggle around so we decided to stay close to vanilla for now.
>>373490154
Do the notes disappear from the book once I find a stash? Does that stash respawn after the tide?
>>373490892
They're one offs. Notes stay in your book forever. Stuff in the stashes never respawns. It's good loot. Usually the guns in them have upgrades already installed. Some have unique stuff like large mags for the saiga.
I just wanted to drop in and let the ITR bros know there is a game called 'ab aeterno'. Same atmosphere but the dev has a bunch of QoL/fun/comfy stuff to the game. Also quite a bit of customization.

No. It's currently still in the "I grabbed unity off the shelf and I'm still fleshing out the mechanics" phase. Not nessicarily a bad thing, but it's a come back in another two years and see where we're at.
>>373494021
Will keep an eye on it. I tried the ItR alpha in 2018 but it took about three years after that to reach a state I considered playable.
>>373527839
Ah, what a shame
Found out in ItR I can transfer rounds box-to-box by clicking instead of emptying one box on the floor and painstakingly inserting each individual cartridge into another box
I hope I'm not the only retard that did this
Immediately defragmented my ammo storage shelf and got about 8 empty boxes
It seems that both wifi and usb streaming on Windows 11 is fucked atm. I've tested everything over the past two weeks and I've yet to have a stable experience with anything. That's with best case scenario.

It's just box-to-box that isn't intuitive because you actually have to click

Ironman maximum realism.
Funnily enough I'm like 6 missions into 1.0 and have yet to die. I think my first death will be soon though since the next mission is motorpool and since it's my second run through I know what's there.
Closest I got to dying so far was when two swarms jumped out a fucking rock at me. I was at like half a bar of health after the first two hits.

They're all worth finding, it's free stuff. Only lootcrates and artifacts respawn though. Playing 1.0 again and it feels so different; to get loot you have to constantly push forwards. The only respawning loot is monster cores and they're rarely profitable, since the game's ammo prices are weird. Pistol cartridges are cheap while rifle cartridges are insanely expensive. You find lots of buckshot which is nice though. The main problem with taking rifle cartriges and pistol is that there's a certain enemy type that takes between 3-10 shots from a pistol cartridge to take down and only drops a $30 core half the time. You take the average and if you shoot it more than 3 times you're wasting money on it, so it is entirely the "bring a sawnoff" enemy to burn the shells you find.

Nothing's wrong with the game I just have severe social anxiety about these things
>>373529346
Also works for rifles that you feed ammo into from the top
>>373530165
Nah like the other anon said the tutorial explains that bit just not box to box transfers
>>373534731
That's basically just the mosin
>>373530718
>>373534915
Pretty sure the tutorial used to explain that.
>>373534731
I would think the joy of the mosin is hand-loading it while smoking cigarettes
Guys wait
wait
Can you smoke more than 1 ciggie at a time?

Yes. The only limit is how many you can light before the first is finished.
>>373535610
yoooooooooo
Fuck the radiation I'm going to get lung cancer
>>373536564
There's no radiation in ItR unfortunately. I'm actually REALLY hoping for a VR mod for stalker 2. It's in the unreal engine so there's hope.
>>373536775
I want stalker 2 to be good, but I have been hurt before. But shit, unreal 5 already had some neat VR tech demos last time I looked so who knows.
>>373537501
Even if it's mediocre, a VR mod would still make it one of the best VR games. It can't be THAT bad surely. So long as the developers aren't onions and woman infested it should be okay.
>>373536775
The green anomalies are kinda 'radiation' as they increase the meter on your watch with the nuclear hazard symbol. The effects are more like respiratory irritants though.
>>373537829
I never noticed this, damn. I always assumed it was acidic gas or something.
>>373537772
I'm more worried about how retarded they are than any attempts at political correctness. They already tried to work NFT's into it, which obviously being 100% motivated by greed might be a telltale sign they plan to axe or heavily limit modding, which was the only thing that really gave stalker its longevity.
>>373538051
It is closer to acidic gas because the gas mask protects against it and the audio tape about it says it melts peoples flesh off.
>>373538150
>attempts at political correctness
Don't think Ukraine gives a shit.
>>373539514
I thought the games were made by russians but just set in Ukraine
>>373241517
Synthriders and red matter are good imo. I actually prefer synthriders to beat saber.
>>373540360
Pity Synth Riders became popular first, despite the shitty devs and gimmicky waggle meta.
>>373539817
GSC has always been located in Ukraine. Although the had a mass exodus of talent over the last decade so they must have picked up a lot of UE4 trained people which could be good or bad. The "gameplay" that they've shown so far was very smoke and mirrors so we don't actually know much about the game.
>>373541464
>>373540360
I mean 'beat saber became popular first'.
>>373533659
Yeah, dark fragments were notorious resource sinks in 1.0, but then in contrast everything else drops dead from a couple shots even from a 9x18mm.
>>373542292
>>373533659
Expending even more ammo sounds terrible.
>>373544240
Armored enemies in 2.0 are massive ammo sinks. Overall I spend way less ammo in 1.0, but those damn black fragments. I highly recommend 1.0.
>>373544563
Just use grenades bro
>>373544650
Hmm. I'll have to check how much they sell for, since if they sell for like $30 that's 5 rounds of 9mm anyway.
>>373544650
I don't think I've ever successfully killed an enemy with a grenade.
