Just about losing my mind trying to get any browser to recognize my quest 2 through air link/link cable, all the demos and videos seem to work in oculus' proprietary browser on the oculus backend itself but literally anywhere else is broken.

Near as I can tell, WebVR was deprecated for WebXR which has since then stopped working along with supermedium? pretty much all materials I can find are for developers, not end users and the most I can get their dev tools to do is simulate a VR device in the browser demos as 2d images manipulated by point-and-clicking 3d models of a headset.

Is anyone else using browser-based VR right now and if so, how? You know for... stuff... "Homework" and the like...

I think even just slapping your existing prototype/demo scenes into vrchat with the unity robot (or an anime grill) going through the motions as an uninteractive animation would go a long way. Kind of like the museum at the beginning of boneworks. VRChat still has absurdly low friction way to get people who are interested in VR and already have steamVR booted up and are wearing the headset to check out your framework and explore on it with friends, compared to anything else in VR right now. Back in 2018 I had hosted a series of regular Metaverse exploration sessions. In these we went through any and all VR enabled app/games/programs we could find at the time that reasonably met the definition of "metaverse".
A lot has changed since then, and in the interest of exploration I will be starting up another round of these once moar. The current plan is to host a new metaverse every Saturday until we've exhausted everything. I'm looking forward to seeing how the landscape has changed in these past few years. you'll have to learn uv editing to position each part of the mesh on the texture if you want to do it that way.

if you have the head already textured and know where it goes, you could instead just make copies of the head texture with different mouths via photoshop or whatever and make unique materials containing each one in unity, the animation can change those. It doesn't have to involve any blender work.

Thoughts on buying used VR gear?
I'd like to give this VRchat stuff a try to get a bit more social activity in my life, but brand new shit is expensive and I'm a single mechanic with a mortgage to worry about.

If you want to play VRChat your cpu is pretty dated but gpu will be fine.

Used vr gear is extremely hit or miss. Don't bother with a used index, since the warranty won't transfer and there's a 90% chance something is fucked with it.

Q2 with PCVR is a pretty good experience and cheap, with my 900 series card I get 35-40ms of latency which I don't notice.
You can firewall it from talking to the internet in your router if you're paranoid like I am.

They're only part of the zucc botnet if you let it be so. You can create an oculus account separate from your facebook account I believe, and like I said you can fire wall it from talking to the internet on your router if you never want it to ever phone home.

You can use PCVR with it by:
a)Using a cable with Oculus Link
b)Use wireless with Oculus Air link
c)Use wireless with ALVR (free & open source, but the least reliable)
d)Use wireless with VD (the best option imo)
If you purchase it with a referral link you'll get free money to buy VD with from oculus store.
Note both the oculus solutions may phone home so be wary about that.
Also using wireless requires PC to be connected to router via ethernet and a 5Ghz router.

EVEN in that case, you'd be able to get IP connection logs and tell that they could. It would be impossible to do it silently. Sure you can change the IP but if you boot up a server for just you and your VRfu to ERP in, and then a third IP connects you know what happened.
