Can't speak to the Vive 2 Pro. From some reviews online though, it sounds like the increased pixel density is a real improvement. Honestly, I just want something with higher pixel density AND the better color depth of the OLED display the original Vive had. If the Vive 2 Pro has that, go for it. Report back and let us know how it is.

How much of a pain would it be to place this /vrgg/ thread into a slower board like /vm/?

Main issue would be searchability.
If we get more actual games with real hype around them that people like to play then it might be able to stay here again in the future much easier.

I've tried the Vive Pro 2, along with a bunch of other HMDs that include the Index and some OLEDs like the HTC Vive and Pro.

Excepting the Varjo Aero, and maybe a heavily tweaked 8k X, the VP2 has the best colors of any LCD headset by a good margin. Its clarity is a big step up from the Index as are its colors. Its not without cons though. It runs very hot, has one of the poorest stereo overlaps on the market, though it's only about 5-6 degrees below the Index, and it trades vertical field of view for horizontal. You're giving up about 8 degrees vertical to get that 8 extra horizontal. Plus the Viveport software is garbage.

I am also somebody who thinks that older gen OLED displays in HMDs like the Vive and Vive Pro were incredibly overrated though with all the trade offs it had beyond just low res and screen door effect. Quantum Dot OLED would theoretically fix most of those issues from what I understand. But we're not getting that in VR for a long time.

Rumor has it that the Cambria has some special tech in it that can increase the resolution of the screen while still having the same physical amount of pixels. Is it the fabled wobulation technique, that Facebook had published a paper on before?

Still better than a lot of LCDs headsets, but I tend to agree. However, they often had a lot of manufacturing variation. The right OLED with the right calibration looked... Pristine, is probably the best word to describe it. It still had that darned screen door effect, but the consistency and deepness of blacks was out of this world, and it had very minimal black smear too. The headset I tried was truly a silicon/display lottery win.

Wtf is wobulation?
Like vibrating the screen very fast like how kids draw using lightsticks?
Anonymous No.379892157
>>379891887
the mechanical method of wobulation was having the screen physically move a very small amount in a circle, with the grid of the screen door effect blending together. solid state wobulation uses optic layers that turn on and off

I'm extremely interested to see how QLED with local dimming works once some people begin using it because it legitimately sounds like the best of both worlds on paper. Extremely bright, no black smearing or low persistence issues OLED has, extremely wide color gamut that can be even greater than OLED, and not quite as good blacks/contrast, but still vastly improved from normal LCD. Doesn't have the lifespan/burn in issues OLED can be subject to when running it really bright either.

Can't believe we're getting this in a headset now. It's like it was just yesterday when someone modded their DK1 to vibrate and decrease the SDE.

>>379891887
In this context you shift the screen by a small amount very fast so that pixels can move just enough into the position where the blank space in-between pixels was. If you do it fast enough, our brain can register it as a single unmoving image. And therefore, no more SDE. If you can predict the vibration well enough, you might even be able to change the rendering so it really is 1-2x boost in resolution.

Gyroscopic forces will hate your head moving very fast with that vibration/rotation though.
I fear the screen will break with this if you move your head fast enough for long enough wear and tear.

Cambria is business/enterprise focused, according to everything that's been said and heard so far, so if that sticks it's absolutely not made in mind with gamers spinning around and doing rapid movements. I guarantee it's designed around things like doing office work in VR or simulation training, where the majority of motions will be slow and simple.

It might not be that bad since you're shifting it an extremely tiny amount, especially if your screen is already very high resolution and tiny. The fans might even produce more vibration compared to the wobulated displays, and Cambria has two. I'm sure they could make it robust enough. Mechanical varifocal on the other hand seems much more difficult to engineer robustly.

Also I did only mention the mechanical method but there is a "solid state" method the other anon mentioned. To explain that concept, you can basically think about it as a special type of lens that does nothing when left alone, but then when you run electricity through it, the optical properties change. This can be used produce a shifted image.

Varifocal is not happening for a while by all indication and how everyone in the industry is acting. It's something they've been struggling with actually getting working in a headset with human eyes for a while. The eyes are really sensitive and getting them to work with our's at multiple focal lengths and fast enough is real difficult.

I love Dirt Rally (1). There's something really great about driving at highway speeds down a slippery dirt road that you've never been down before, and the only way to tell what's ahead is by deciphering the hieroglyphics your co-driver is spouting into your ear. Also, for regular racing I liked PCars 2 way more than AssCors. I pretty much only use AC to scratch my eurobeat itch. They're both good but I don't see how anyone could pick one of these 3 and call it "the best thing you can play in VR"

I think the Index isn't really worth it now at MSRP. it's really showing its age after 3 years. There are headsets which are way clearer than it is or have much more FoV. Unless you're big on social stuff then the microphone is god tier and nobody tops it.

The problem is that the Quest 2 is completely open on audio. It doesn't even focus and direct it onto your ears like the Valve Index or G2. And you have to max out the volume to make the Q2 audio even passable tier, which means it gets picked up by the microphone and makes an awful loop. It's so goddamn annoying, I agree.

Alright motherfuckers it is that time of the week again! We are entering what appears to be a nice spell of VRC content, we have easter coming up and some kind of yearbook thing going on. There isn't much going on besides that so this is the perfect time to brush up on skill you don't have. The new Koikatsu exporter has almost been mapped out due to a lack of wiki, so if you want to see the final stretch drop by. Either that or post about your junk here in the thread, best of luck with the current shitposting weather friends.

Pulsar has nearly been completed but the full stretch of content has nearly been exhausted. If the main playthrough cannot resume, weekly organized VR gaming will be switched back to Zenith with it's new content to see what has been released or changed.

Though I will admit hypocrisy in that it didn't bother me in Breath of The Wild for whatever reason. I think because that game rarely makes you backtrack and doesn't have FULLY VOICE ACTED DIALOUGE WOW. It's funny how as a kid I thought good cinematics and lots of content where a signs of a good game. Now I see that 90% of the time they are flashy stickers to distract you from the fact that the devs don't know how to properly pace a game or design a level. For running you just push up on the other stick. So forward on both sticks.

On spears I recomend 2 stage method you set in the VHVR settings. With that enabled you squeeze the gip ready to throw over sholder. You will see a taget line. Without letting go of the grip pull the trigger and release as you swing forward.

If you are using the harpoon keep in mind it will drain stamina while linked an you have to throw it again to break the rope or wait for stamina to his zero.

New sounds for AK74, M4, IZ81.
AK-like guns can have their mag ejected using another mag.

Sec level 2 award is moved to a new priority mission in Bolotki Village.

I like how aggressive the moderation for Pokerstars 18+ rule is. I always report squeakers and never see them again. Sadly too many VR games have been ruined by mandatory quest crossplay and the screeching children that come with it. Echo Arena used to be great until the playerbase got about twenty years younger on average. Unbearable children make it a more accurate Ender's Game simulator I suppose.

Well yeah Pokerstars is real money gambling, isn't it? They are legally obligated to remove underage users from their platform or they could get in serious trouble. VR chatrooms with a 13+ rating don't have nearly the same obligation or gravity to remove children (and imo a 13yo is still a child and I don't want them in my rooms either, I think 15-16 is the cut-off for someone who's capable of behaving themselves and even then it varies a lot)

Multiplayer Gambling games but not with real money.
Poker, blackjack, roulette, sports betting. You can even bet on Superbowl, NBA and Formula 1 now.
There's a fuck ton of toys and cosmetics you can play with at the table and "flex" with and that's how they make their money.

Advertising Pokerstars brand, getting people hooked on gambling so they go gamble real money is the main purpose of the game.
Making money from micro transaction cosmetics is just a bonus.

Any NMS players in here? I decided to use the new no man's sky update as an opportunity to play it in VR after the newest update rolled out. I have to say it feels surprisingly okay in VR other than the fact that you HAVE to use the analog stick to turn if you want most of the HUD (except the compass that still follows your head) to stay within your field of vision for some dumb reason. Other than that I'm actually enjoying getting back into the game and playing through an expedition for the first time since I missed the last one.

Don't think it really matters. You can sideload games on a Quest 2 (Zuckerberg might ban you in the future for that? Not sure) and any of the PCVR titles can be pirated and SteamVR will still pick them up and run them properly so Index/Vive are both good.

The menu thing is even worse than you may have noticed because it also culls a lot of geometry if it's outside your playspace's forward arc. Gun raiders is a free to play quest arena shooter with jet packs that can be as fast as quake arena if you know the mechanics. Some gliding mechanics, wall grappling and at first glance a casual gun play for VR shooters, but intuitive and extremely well balanced.
In the public areas its full of kids but in the instances you find serious, quite competitive players.

To be fair AAA western games are OK if you can mod them to be less sterilized and politically correct. Skyrim VR is the best VR game for several reasons, one being that you can add cowtit bikini armor in while the latest Bioware schlock forces everyone to wear burqas. I could never get into always online live service games as they can't be modded and are iredeemable as a result.

If comfort is your number 1 factor above everything, you should wait till the 20th to see what's announced. Pancake lenses are going to literally halve or more the weight and size of HMDs even compared to our already thin offerings. The closest right now that's fully functional would probably be the Reverb G2 or Quest 2 with some aftermarket straps.

There is a learning curve to set things up. It's a matter of getting gud like everything else. There are plenty of tutorials on the process. Skyrim VR's main quirk is that you need to merge plugins as .esl files aren't supported as with Skyrim SE. Generally it's a process of using Mod Organizer 2 to install the mods you want, using LOOT to sort your load order, DynDoLOD do make your lods, and then Synthesis to run patchers..

Pimax looks the most comfortable to me, considering that there doesn't seem to be anything on the strap on the back of the head. I used to use a Vive Pro for 8+ hours a day, and the one thing that bothered me was the knob in the back. With an HMD, you will probably want to lie your head back, and anything that gets in the way of that is annoying and uncomfortable. The headstrap should be plain

Yes, I know the Quest has the same situation as the Pimax, but fuck Shekelberg

What the hell are you on about? The Pimax headstrap is an exact copy of the Vive Pro. If you're talking the cloth headstrap they used years ago with kickstarter, that shit is god awful. To a point it's much more about how the weight is distributed than the weight itself. And the cloth straps make something insanely front heavy and uncomfortable. Especially Pimax, who have some of the heavier HMDs.

H3VR mods are gradually creating a game from this sandbox. Custom characters have improved the Take and Hold experience: Silent Sully makes it more challenging while PMC Pete turns it into more of a looting game. There's now a KotH game mode and someone is working on a Tarkov style mode with a persistent stash. The rigs and backpacks add more interesting inventory management. Helmets and plate carriers add armor mechanics to the player.

So just finished playing my first few rounds of this game and it's amazing. Sure it's VR Fortnite but honestly that's a good thing. It also has climbing gliding like Zenith.
The player base seams large but with Oculus being the majority it's hard to gage but I never had to wait for a match.
It's no mil sim but the gun play feels really good since you can tune the motion dampening so the guns feel like they have a bit of weight. Really wish that was more common in VRFPS games as it feels way better than virtual stock systems

What upcoming VR games, updates or mods are you keeping an eye on? Here's my list
>Undead Citadel
>Tea For God
>Vertigo 2
>Thrill Of The Fight 2
>Boneworks 2 (or whatever it's name will be)
>Hellsweeper VR
>Deep Rock Galactic VR mod
>Valheim's next update so I can play the VR mod again
There are other games coming out, some this side of summer but they're either Quest only or I've played the demos/alpha/betas and wasn't impressed. Green Hell PCVR is one of those as it had huge performance issues that I don't think the devs will solve, I hope I'm wrong.
A lot of devs for current VR games are quiet regarding roadmaps and update plans so I can't think of any big updates I'm looking forward to like I was the Dungeon update for Blade and Sorcery.

Right now from my Steam wishlist it's

Lo-Fi
Vail VR
Blunt Force
Undead Citadel
Hellsweeper VR
The Break In
Ab Aeterno
Gambit!
Tea for God
Green Hell VR
Houseflipper Pets
And my personally most anticipated game, Mothergunship Forge

Undead Citadel and Blunt Force are looking like vaporware though. Blunt Force listed "Coming 2020", and now just lists "Coming soon". It's fucked. There are a bunch of games that aren't officially announced which I won't speculate on. Companies like Valve aren't exactly known for following through on things.

In reality I am just going to be playing more modded Skyrim VR while I wait for anything worthwhile to come out. With Planck it's the perfect time to play an unga bunga rapist barbarian as I work my way through Falksar and then Glenmoril now that I've finished Enderal.

I looked into Blunt Force some time ago. It was another VR side project for some of the Shadow Warrior reboot devs and it looks like it was dropped because they were needed to help develop a flat game called Trek to Yomi. It's been out of dev for so long i'd say it's vaporware.

Undead Citadel is still in dev. They recently revoked the old test keys and confirmed PCVR release this year. Unsurprisingly it's getting a Quest 2 version now so that probably accounts for some of the delay.

Zenith didn't happen, Pulsar was dropped for autism FOTM however the fleet mod was updated after a few of us complained about it last time. We are going to test that a bit to see if it functions because having an increased player cap and multiple ships in pulsar would be fun as hell.

I'm guessing it's an 8 bit value with 7 bits used to represent up to 127 and one bit to flag it as timed out (999 ms). The ping in game only goes up to 255, but after that the values seem to become random, rather than restarting from zero.

The netcode probably becomes so bad once the ping has exceeded 255 ms because the prediction actually uses the wrong values; it only interpolates your position for 30 ms or whatever instead of the hundreds of milliseconds it should thus having the positions completely desynced and allowing the shots around corners.

I'm really glad that Saints & Sinners 2 is making the French district the whole game rather than just reusing areas from the first game, as unrealistic as it may be with the French Quarter ultimately not being that large IRL. Silenced weapons will really change how the game plays too. What bugs me is that like the Aftershocks update the game probably won't acknowledge whether you chose to help or hurt JB, Georgia, or neither in the first game's main campaign which is sad. I hope that the Exiles are handled better.

Yeah, that too. I guess it's also because Pavlov has remained fairly stagnant in recent years. Apart from fixes and push mode, no improvements have been made to the interface. It's a shame. I think it also might have to do with the last two years being hard on VR for anything other than the Quest. More and more people are getting siphoned away from PCVR, being told that it's "dead", all to try and lock people into an ecosystem with shitty mobile hardware and draconian policies.

Like the others have said, if your idea is possible with VRChat's player rig then that's a good way to skip some of the work and get easier feedback. Otherwise consider making a Unity/UE4 project to prototype various ideas and learn from example assets.
What sounds like a good idea can fall apart when faced with the reality of actually playing with it or developing it further.

It sounds like they're pandering hard by bring Ezio and everyone back. Hopefully that game actually feels like an AC game and just an Oculus-sponsored tech demo...

The road as in right out of the fog or the road as in across the bombed out field by the checkpoint? It's a patient game, anon. Take your time, find some higher ground and some shadows and have a look at what you're dealing with before you go in and only rush if you know where you're rushing to and through is safer than where you are. Crouching too you have to get really low for it to realise you're crouching. You'll be able to tell because it really slows your walk speed.
First mission after the tutorial should take you to the power station right next to the fog gate. Wouldn't recommend going much further than that just yet.

I like that they are actually supporting mods this time. I'll pirate it after two years to see how thoroughly the community has trounced the devs.

Best single player FPS VR games? I tried that one game Into The Radius but couldn't get into it. Same with TWD Saints and Sinners, just didn't grab me. I really loved playing through RE4VR though.
