So RE7&8's VR mod got updated for fully working motion controls now. How are they? Thinking about picking them up with the massive sale on humble bundle. They look pretty great, but not sure if that's just youtube autists hyping them up and if they're kind of janky for menus. I've got a 3080 so I'd like to think I can at least decent performance and settings.

I’m just using the default setting. Anytime I change anything on it, it gets glitchy and idk how to fix it.
I also turned the settings back down to Low just because I want as little stutters as possible. I don’t mind the pixelated ugly mess, as my first big VR game was RE7 on PSVR which was real bad looking but still amazing.
I’m using a Quest 2 with link cable, so I only need 72hz
Specs are:
Ryzen 5600x
1060 3GB
16gb ram
I still get an occasional very small hitch, but my past twenty minutes of testing was smooth 99% of the time. I had to turn it off though, a mimic was fucking hidden and kept making scary noises and I couldn’t take it

I tried project wingman for the first time and my controller kept disconnecting. Doesn't happen with anything else so I'm guessing the headset is interfering with it, it took me 3 tries to get through the first fucking mission. Alright motherfuckers it is that time of the week again! We are cruising into the part of the year where the heat increases, the VR usage decreases, and many people have to buy new air conditioners to try and fight the violent process! VRChat is at its smallest and steadiest during this time of the year, best time to join up on decently sized meets and get to know people past the alcohol. That all in mind knowing how to work on your avatar at even a base level comes with that, drop by if you have gaps in your knowledge, or just ask in the thread.

Didn't get around to phasmo this weekend as another flavor of the month dropped. Going to round people up for another round of it though, either that or Rec Room or After the Fall, both have updated enough to be worth touching.

I can't speak on VR vs flat, but I've been playing monitor+Hotas and it's been an absolute blast. I still find it to be very immersive like that but I think the Hotas plays a big part in that.
Absolutely love VR and I think it's the best way to play vehicle-focused games, but my GPU can't handle super-sampling most games, so it's turned into a "Beat Saber machine" since that's one of the few games with visuals I can tolerate for several hours. Can't overstate my disappointment when I found out I couldn't play MFS2020 without it feeling like I had lost my glasses.

I'm not sure if I'll go for the mod as a result. No one I know who has a VR headset plays the game. That and I am too used to quick switching weapons with mouse buttons and enjoying the game at max settings at 200+fps with HDR on. That guy is having trouble running the game at lowest settings at ~90fps. I'll give it a couple of missions with Bosco before I return to being able to play with other people. GTFO's mod for instance lets you play with flat players no problems.

I've got to find or make a mod for a blunt fist weapon that gives me an extra 10cm or so of reach that also has a plate that goes back over the forearm so I can block with it. And now that I actually look on the nexus I have found one. Hopefully it works for the later versions. The mod is 2 years old now.

The jump attacks were parryable but the AI used them as a gap closer way too often, it just looked dumb when it happens one after the other.
I have some hope that the new defensive AI combat stance will improve things, I already see less jump attacks in the beta but the AI still has the problem of walking into me. My ultimate hope would be for an AI that can chain together randomly chain together simple swings so parrying requires reaction rather than memorizing the animations.

i'm seeing used Quest 2s for like $150 and want to get into VR. I looked through the info linked in the OP post, vive pros are twice that, and you need the towers and other stuff.

NGL air link sounds amazing. stream games wirelessly to the headset. does this work as advertised?

As for wireless, it's fantastic and easily the best feature, other than the price, but you need a good router for it. The first one I tried was sub-500MBs, it was an absolute nightmare. I think gigabit is minimum

The real thing it has going for it is the parrying mechanic. It's very clean and satisfying. The force you hit their weapon during an attack determines the window you have to riposte. A light parry will make them stagger backwards out of reach while a heavy parry will leave them right in front of you. There's a cooldown to your weapon's damage so you cannot waggle. Quick hits will do full damage on the first hit then light hits until the cooldown is up. Steady, paced swings are where the real damage is at. There's dismemberment, decaps, stabbing, grappling, throwing, and you can use the bodies or object in the environment to hit enemies too. Enemy attack animations are nicer but the environment (singular) is very samey. It's also made by a korean so it's grindy as all fuck. Legendary weapons are cool but you have to grind crystal loot crate gambling bullshit to get them. In my entire time playing with someone else we found two legendaries.
More arcadey and clean than blade and sorcery but not showy or pretty like blade and sorcery. The dungeon itself is just a series of rooms with switches and doors and the same 4 (+ large magical variant) enemy types throughout. There is not enough variety for me to recommend it as a game but the combat is good enough that I would recommend aspiring vr devs straight up copying it at least trying it. If you're considering trying then refunding keep in mind won't see anything new past the first two floors and the tutorial is extremely long and makes you do it twice in different formats.

Figured I'd mention that I found an application being worked on that let's you install the plugin to your game library on the fly. Even better, it gives you the choice between 3 different plugins so you can test each one out to see what works best.
https://github.com/tappi287/openvr_fsr_app/releases
For whatever reason, only the CAS method seems to make a difference for the games I tested it on, but the FSR plugin has a dramatic improvement.

It's mostly sims, and it's racing rather than driving, but here are things you can try:

>AC
Assetto would be your best shot at getting what you want, because it has everything. It's a mod fiesta, but it has one-click launcher that does all of the modding for you, and then you have access to anything. Comfy big cruise maps, smaller picturesque locations, meme touges, normal race tracks, anything goes. With this amount of content, racing is optional really.

>rf2
Very subjectively, rF2 is the game that carries through car handling the best, it also doesn't sperg out on smallest contact like assetto does. Modding community is also pretty serious

>ACC
Competizione is probably the only truly next-gen racing vidya current-gen now, since ac and rf2 are both from crysis 1 era, so feel free to give it a shot. Amazing audio design, great visuals, good car feels, but zero mods and only gt3/gt4 car classes

>iRacing
If you're specifically into competition and you want to race others, iRacing is the game that delivers more-or-less serious racing, with 20+ driver big races starting every hour, every day.

>LFS
old little simulator, but you might like it if you're still in 'discovering things' phase. It attempts to simulate things that other sims ignore, in LFS you can burn your clutch, you can (iirc) completely fade your brakes, list goes on. Has surprisingly good VR support, i think it was first sim i've ever seen that had completely jank-free 3d mirrors with depth perception in VR

And Dirt Rally 2 for your rally needs.

tl;dr assetto

Made a mistake and bought access to the Low-Fi dev build. The environments and atmosphere are incredible but has the creator said whether or not it'll actually encourage interactivity instead of letting your hands clip through everything? It's hard to fathom why this would be the case when the point of the game is to be an immersive experience close to real life. The UI is awful too; can barely navigate through the menus because they're on the edge of my periphery

Stinky sim racer here; a few other things that should be mentioned

>AC
Goes on sale a bunch. Still has a sizeable modding community behind it letting you drive almost any car you can think of. Great for offline driving and racing against AI, but online is almost entirely nordschleife tourist, monza, and spa. Do not expect high quality multiplayer racing at all unless you find a league.

>ACC
Probably the best game for GT3/GT4 racing. Game looks and sounds great but runs pretty rough. Be prepared to drop your graphics settings a fair bit to keep a playable framerate. Online racing is better than old AC but be prepared to do a lot of monza and spa unless you do the daily ranked race or join a league.

>rF2
By far the best tire model out of every current sim but multiplayer pretty much only exists in leagues.

>iRacing
Your best option for actual clean online racing if you don't want to find a league, as well as being pretty much the only game where you will find populated online oval racing and multiclass racing. Game is expensive as fuck though, requiring you to pay both a subscription and for $10-15 each for cars and tracks. "Special event" races are ran throughout the year, in which real world races are recreated at full race distance and include things like the Daytona 500, Bathurst 12 Hr, 24 Hrs of Le Mans, Nürburgring 24 Hr, and the Indy 500 (which is currently happening this weekend)

>Dirt Rally
Pretty much the only modern rally game with vr support.

>RaceRoom
Fun game that features some cars and tracks you won't find in other games. Great AI and somewhat okay online population. However the game is pretty single core performance dependent, as well as using a kinda confusing f2p monetization system.

F1 2022 will also finally bring VR support to that game series if F1 is your thing.

It'll work but won't be great. VR is quite GPU heavy because it's rendering two separate POVs at once - one for each eye. Processor matters also but mostly just for physics stuff (which features a lot in vr games).

I disagree with your disagreement. While the finger tracking isn't perfect, it works enough. Finger recalibration works through rolling your fingers. However, the main feature here is the ability to "let go" of your controller and grab stuff as you "would" regularly. This works well even for throwing things in vr. I will admit that it can get sweaty and not as easily equippable and reequippable+other issues, but the natural hand movement certainly provides a more immersive and natural experience.

So anyways when are we getting camera-based finger tracking? I'd like it to track my finger's EXACT position in real time. Like yeah it's cool if it can track my finger as it moves across the controller or leaves it, but I'd like it to be able to determine how far away my finger is and what orientation it's in.

I bought a quest 2 on Saturday and honestly so far the hand tracking is pretty impressive, but the thing won't connect to my fucking computer and that's the whole reason I bought it.

Connected, restarted a few times finally got it to recognize, but attempts to connect in the headset got me 3 dots then it kicked me back to "allow data" and the cycle repeats.
I could see the quest 2 as a USB device, along with 2 other unrecognized devices.
Restarted PC again and now nothing.

What do?

repaired the oculus program on my PC and restarted and now it recognizes the Quest again.
oculus device appears in device manager, and quest 2 is is devices and printers with no other unrecognized devices.
i accidently told it not to show the connect message again, but that's cool i go to quick settings, hit the big connect button and get 3 dots, then it kicks me back to allow data, so it's shutting down then restarting the connection.
i see in my radeon software a small blip in GPU usage so i know it's trying to start up.
USB test shows connection speed at 2.0 to 2.1Gbps, maybe that's an issue, but i've seen others with the same or lower say there's no issue and the software says it's compatible.

It helps when all new FPS that come out are flat and you only have so much content in VR. That and it's honestly harder to play shooters in VR. Quakespasm VR is cool especially as most mods work in it, but even the vanilla levels have tricky first person platforming segments that are rough in VR and strafe jumping is just too hard to do with a controller.

Like all mods on mod.io it should automatically download when people join on you, and flat players would be able to join the game too. Admittedly as with every other modded lobby people will be less likely to join you from the server browser, but you can still get people to trickle in. At higher difficulties the game will still spawn enough bugs to make things interesting with only two or three players anyways.

I agree, CS has the gayest shooting mechanics of any FPS I've played. I can't believe the game is still relevant when its shooting is just so awful. One could argue that the current trend of ADS-shooters and modern FPS design has grown stale, but there's a fucking reason why FPSes shifted to that sort of feel in the latter half of the 2000's, because it worked. CS is a relic.

You need to enable dev mode (via the app) and then somewhere in the quest 2 itself enable third party apps (because you won't be installing them via the official store). Look up a guide on how to get sidequest working, that's a legit thing so there's guides for it on youtube but if you get that working piracy should work as well.
As for pirating games, get the free for all launcher from the reddit quest piracy group. It has a massive up to date selection, it installs shit for you and will even offer to update existing pirated games if it detects that there's a newer version available than what you have.

Can all that be done without a Facebook account? I don't have one, and I obviously don't have my siblings' info. I wanted to hack it for them before gifting it to them, but if I need a Facebook account, I'll have to wait until I visit my parents.
Anonymous No.385369036
>>385368864
You don't need a facebook account, although if you use the exploit then enabling dev mode can be more fiddly, since the option to select the headset can disappear sometimes (because it's not properly connected) and I've had it revert dev mode a few times so I had to turn it back on. No data was lost, but I wasn't able to play the pirated games I had installed until I did it. It's a simple thing, but worth keeping in mind.

I played it, it's a pretty game but the actual gameplay is shallow. What it needed instead of an RPG levelling system is to redesign the entire flow and have 'runs' and make it a cringe-ass roguelite with powerups and abilities that can combine.
I'd recommend buying it since you can probably get like 5-10 hours out of it. The start is SUPER slow aids though since it takes a while for the game to actually start throwing mountains of enemies at you.

Alright motherfuckers it is that time of the week again. The effects of the summer blues have set in as the do every year, some of us have been thinking of setting up a fund for folks that are air condition deficient. That will not solve the problems of humidity though, as we learn every time, vr has a long way to go if heat knocks it out. No excuse not to work on your model though, some are going to the prom that usually happens this time of year so if you need help with that, post about it or drop by.

The fuck you are talking about. SteamVR is the only infrastructure which ALLOWS you to make custom controllers.

SteamVR HDK is available free of charge and is royalty free, gives you all the tools Valve used to design controllers and headsets.

Hardware development kits are available to buy freely at price slightly higher than a vive tracker. Chiplets and ASICs for controllers are available to buy in mass and documented.

Lighthouse is litterally the most open ecosystem.

Understand one thing from the start: B&S is a middling tech demo without mods. Period.
To make it playable, at the minimum you want Sectory and Medieval Megapack. Mess around with Sectory settings, if something isn't intuitively named, there's a readme that explains all of it.
There is a beta for Update 11 out right now, but you should stick with the stable U10 for those mods.
No, I won't move the cursor.

I've been stuck with an OG vive for a while now and I'm starting to feel the screendoor pain. I'm looking for a resolutiom/fov upgrade that will cooperate with my steamvr lighthouses and ideally work on linux.

Right now I'm looking at Reverb G2, Vive Pro 2, and Pimax 5k Super. Reverb and pimax are windows only, vive works on linux but has slightly worse displays. All around the same price point.

Is there anything I'm failing to consider about these three?

Closer than a pancake game, but still miles off. Its true that you can train certain things like keeping both eyes open when aiming, and to some degree your ability to point something straight. but a lot doesnt translate. Like pushing the stock into your shoulder or flinching when you shoot. I'd say what it is good for is learning the controls and the overall movement of the gun. Like where to put the magazine or switching from safe to semi/auto and pulling the slide/charging handle.

Can't go wrong with Assetto Corsa. You can also try rF2 for better physics, iRacing for somewhat quality competitive racing, AC Competizione for next-gen audiovisuals, and Dirt Rally 2 for rally feels.

I don't like most VR porn, but I just discovered DarkRoomVR. Their models are all pretty cute and their free videos are all pretty lengthy to where it makes me wonder why anyone would bother paying the premium. Good quality video and an understanding of how to take advantage of POV.

Get Content Manager at https://assettocorsa.club/index.php?q=content-manager.html

Other than proper bug-less interface, it also lets you install custom shaders patch that takes AC to the next level. 3d mirrors, night, rain, tons of graphics fixes of all kind. Some online servers autokick you if you don't have it installed, this is how popular this thing is.

At least they are refunding people. It does seem outrageous given that they have three other early access games that they haven't finished.

He'd actually really like H3VR but had to go and buy a headset that doesn't even have controllers or 6 DoF and form his opinion based on shitty videos on Netflix or something.

If you wanna watch vr porn on something better than a phone headset, I guess, but if you want to play games, save your money for a normal headset.

Just boot H3 on your headset and let him use it for an hour or two, totally change his mind and then he can buy his own Quest 2 or whatnot.

Knuckles WOULD be the best vr controllers ever made if they didn't have inherent durability and design flaws. Oculus controllers are built like a tank and still manage to give you plenty of control. And after three years, how essential is individual finger tracking?
