Do you think that the headphones on Valve Index are good for everyday use outside gaming (music, movies etc.) ? I am asking because I have thought about making my own wireless off-ear headset like Valve's hummingbird prototype. The only thing to note is that you need to apply DSP to it to get it to sound the same. Most likely you can get it sounding pretty close by just EQing the bass up and using a dedicated amp to power it.

If one is making this I suggest against this type of head mount. It turns out that those arms that stick out towards the sides to grip your head are physically noticeable enough to make you feel a little less like "wow it's like I'm not wearing headphones". My suggestion would be to instead get a PSVR/Rift S halo strap and mount the speakers on those via 3D printing.

It's workable but prepare for a few rejoins to the same world. I had to rejoin 3 times in an hr. So it's bearable specially since loading worlds in CVR is seamless.
But next week would be where the bigger meets can occur when they have servers much more stable.

Earlier this week, valve stuck EAC on the VRChat client. This more than effectively immediately banned all client mods on vrchat. Lots of users used mods to enhance VRC functionality. EAC is a kernel level anticheat designed for competitive games that is a pretty extreme application, having links to tencent and china and generally being unfriendly.

VRC decided to implement Easy Anti Cheat without any warning, so far the VRC devs never faced a backlash this big.
EAC was selled as a way to improve security by reducing the aount of crashers, rippers and modified clients. The results however is that crashers and rippers are unaffected, people lost mods (despite being against TOS, some of the qol mods were considered vital for some).
On top of that, EAC has a lot of negative side effects: worse performance, cannot launch VRC alongside other EAC games, FSR and virtual desktop + oculus store version not working, longer load times, false positives which kicked jp out of their instances, ...
Weither you were using mods or not, this update brings nothing positive.
A significant amount of VRC players are now trying other social VR platfrms (ChilloutVR and Neos).
Internet being internet, some people see that as a reason to start a war on social VR platforms, that's why you have some anons schizoing over people staying in VRC and others schizoing over people leaving VRC

Vrchat does seem to be on the road to further monetization and the devs have been jerks, but it's also much more complete and stable than ChilloutVR. I think the most intelligent position to take right now is to be ready to pivot to either but to go where people are.

Hello. As promised, I checked out chilloutVR. There are some things I liked about it and some things I did not.
I've uploaded some videos. The first video will leave you with a pretty negative impression, the fbt calibration SUCKS. It took me a long time to figure out how to trick it into calibrating in a way in which I was halfway okay with. Then I join a public world, which kinda sucks. Then I join the meetup and play with the camera, which is actually pretty neat.
The interface is okay in some ways but not okay in others. It's pretty rough but overall I think it's more visually pleasing than vrc's current interface, which I do not like. I like that there are a lot of advanced user options in the interface but it does need to be fleshed out a lot.
Oh, one thing I really did like was how it handles joining a new world. You don't leave the world you're currently in until you've already downloaded the next one. Very nice.
Streamable has a 250mb upload limit now (which sucks) so I'm using unlisted youtube for hosting. If anyone knows anything better lemme know. I'll probably delete these videos in a few days so watch while you can.

Overall, I think it's very rough and it doesn't have a lot of the nice quality of life features that vrchat has.
It's something to keep an eye on but I don't know about moving over with it as a my primary game. I'm in the camp where I think we should do whatever is best for the community without being partial to one game or the other.
I think it's worth it to check out chilloutVR to see if you like it, but in my opinion it's too rough right now. Might be nice to visit but I wouldn't want to live there.

I didn't mean to imply that I disliked it and am not going to try it again. I'll continue to keep an eye on it, but yeah it has some issues. The FBT needs a lot of work and obviously server stability needs to be there if it's a game people are going to play long term.
I do know that they have knah on the team so hopefully he'll whip the FBT into shape. As it is now, it's barely playable.

If you'd watched my video, you would have seen that I played around with the experimental settings as well as different heights and different calibration methods and stances and struggled to come up with something that looked natural.
I do know that knah is on the cvr team and hopefully he will do a lot to improve the calibration. As it is right now, however, it's not very good.

something for everyone to keep in mind:
the chilloutvr hired a lot of new developers and have already fixed a lot of bugs in the past few days.
they actually listen to their community and improve the game based on feedback, unlike vrc

even if you think cvr right now has worse features than vrc, don't just not play it because of it. get on cvr. write on the cvr discord. report what you felt was missing or could be improved. they actually listen and push out updates very fast.

if they know what people want, you will get it. help out by playing the game and getting involved with the community. in the long run you'll be doing yourself a favor, as you'll get a client that's just much better performance-wise, with more and better features and faster over time

How do people figure out what I've posted in the past when I've stayed anonymous?

I think this was the most stable instance so far, lasted a good 20 minutes or so before once again everyone crashed, and later instances seem to be getting worse. Was nice while it lasted though, the basics of multiplayer unity scene viewing is all there. I wish the dev team luck in stabilizing their servers in the coming weeks.

It's really the same as it is in VRC. CVR is basically running a version of IKTweaks from before the "IK2" update. Make sure your spine is mostly straight and that everything is in line with each other. Soon it won't matter as much anymore but until then just have a sane armature and calibration should be a breeze. It's the same as "old" VRChat where your model freezes in place and you have to line shit up.
