new buy-once-keep-forever "attachments" for guns that increase damage, magazine size, decrease recoil or do things like 10% chance to not use ammo
from what i can tell a single drum mag from the new shotgun can melt the entire game because the chipsets are broken in a mathmatical sense where the decimal point seems to be off
so instead of 10% chance it's way higher, giving you an unlimited amount of ammo to breeze through the game
and for each broken piece of frost armor you get harvest so these auto shotgun meta fags get harvest rewards in the 20ks instead of around 10k
and with the speed at which they fix shit this will be around for a couple of weeks if not months

grindy, linear maps, very similar map design, bullet sponge enemies
people compare it to L4D, the characters do not live up to the expectations L4D set, there is no variety in tasks, only shoot your way through corridors, loot some weapons and useables and kill a boss
there used to be EU lobbies which have died down, not sure if NA ever played it
if you want to try it out stay under the 2 hours and refund if it's not your cup of tea
and remember, what you do in the first run is what you do in other runs too, just with bigger guns
Anonymous No.401381030 Replies: >>401401816

I like it and don't regret buying it because co-op zombie shooting is fun but I do wish it had some of the variety or intensity of Left4Dead. There is some challenge at high difficulties but besides the new worm boss there's no point where you need to balance between combat and an objective, nor do you have the option of rushing to the safehouse. It's really just a random series of enemy waves along a linear map.

I managed to play a bunch of vr games with a 970 but that was on a Rift S so I only needed 80fps which helped a lot. Low graphics settings also made some games look like ass and framerate dips were not uncommon on recent titles.
Most of the first gen VR games like Gorn, Arizona sunshine, Job Sim, Budget Cuts etc all ran well.
Skyrim VR ran excellent with opencomposite and hand-picked modest graphics mods.
Boneworks was smooth for me.
Alyx was right on the limit so any other headset will drop frames.
I was playing Pavlov but the performance degrades fast with more players in the server or onscreen.
Gorilla tag, Ancient dungeon, Walkabout and anything with low res textures is a safe bet.
Games that were playable for me like Into the Radius are probably not smooth enough after updates, a 970 just doesn't cut it for VR anymore.

The stability of the physics grid in the trailer was really encouraging, far less jank and wobble than Boneworks. I hope it gets multiplayer; if it does that avatar system will certainly result in social use. Unity so you can import avatars from your favourite degenerate games, just need to make degen mods.

if all you want is to arrange 3d assets and mess around with index finger tracking, any of the verboten "social vr" projects will do ya well, chillout or neos or vrchat. neos can even import and arrange assets right in game. steamvr home is extremely neglected by valve. I've had it disabled for years. Depending on what exactly you want, you can also just download unity/unreal and the steamvr sdk, open their demo scene, replace the assets in there, and hit play for ez floating index hands/teleport movement. technically "developing an entire game", but the engine and sdk do so much out of the box it's easier than figuring out most modding workflows.

Similarly is it as simple as going to a timestamp in a video for a scene I like, doing the math and finding it in the script and copy pasting?

Hurt my shoulders so badly playing Beat Saber last tuesday I could barely get out of bed the next morning.
Now nearly fully recovered and turned the game on, started using more wrist/elbow and less shoulder to avoid hurting it, and holy shit this is the strat. was barely comfortable with 5.5 star tracks before, but now easily doing 6-7 star tracks.
Cant wait until I fully recover and can get back to playing it for 4 hours at a time

I was doing this before, but its what caused me to really injure myself. Now that I'm using my elbows and limiting shoulder movement to wide swings, im able to swing way way faster and am doing tracks easily now that I really struggled with before because it was just too fast to be feasible with shoulder.
My only experience is today lol but so far it seems wrist/elbow is the way to go (to get better and not hurt yourself). Make sure you're stretching before and after playing

the expert+ meta for beat saber is definitely all about energy minimization. I recommend adjusting the saber angles too so they're roughly parallel with your thumb/top of the controller, rather than a "real" saber that you're gripping. This puts the neutral saber position about in the center of your wrist's range of motion, and thus you can get full cut scores with pure wrist movement for almost all block positions.

there will always be a schism between the wrist-wagglefags and "you're not playing the game correctly" big move fags, but if you want to play the expert+ maps out there you just have to adapt. Better to play a different game if you must have your REAL DANCING >>401551723

I just played it for the first time a few months ago. It was cool. Would have liked some more varied gameplay in the single player mode. The beginning and end was cool, but the middle was a long slog of boring hallways and gutters. I particularly enjoyed the section where your clones were living in a medievalesque made out of the ruins of the VR world. Would like more shit like that, but the gameplay I've seen so far was sandbox and hallways. The body changing mechanic seems fun though.

HL2 impossible due to motion sickness.
Sight seeing is great but it is nothing you can do over and over.
VR chat was a great experience first but i don't have anything meaningful to say to strangers and i don't think they could say anything interesting to me.
Tried some free stuff which is ok but doesn't get me to put the headset on and connect it to the PC. VR really is a meme there are so few games and there isn't much to do beside gaming. I wish there was a better video experience.

There are no RPGs because 3d RPGs are already hard enough to make as it is without adding VR into the mix. We've got mostly indie developers right now and the kind of RPGs indies put out are usually 2d pixeltrash. It makes more sense to either stick to 2d from the start or pivot into Rogue-lite like Ancient Dungeon.

Nvidia runs fine on both X and Xwayland. There are no issues with raw performance and it runs fine. Providing the game itself is set up correctly with wine/dvxk, some games can perform better than on windows (RDR2 is one). It's everything surrounding just running games with Nvidia on linux that's the problem. Can't undervolt, Gsync/VRR is limited to one monitor on X, doesn't work at all on Wayland. Control panel is limited, drivers are propriatary and cause problems integrating with the system with updating etc.

AMD for Linux, Nvidia for windows. Period.

While I agree that third party benchmarks are good to get, you're a retard if you legitimately think the 4090 is going to be lucky to be even 30% of more better than the 3090 TI. The node jump, the cache, the leaked TSE scores, the multiple games with decently made ballparks by people all lines up for it to be a pretty sizable jump. The people who were expecting and parroting x2 rasterization performance are equally as retarded, but you haven't paid attention to anything if you think the jump is going to be that tiny.

The drivers being proprietary is more of a philiophical issue. Apart from that, I maybe get 2-3 instances in the year where I pacman -Syu and reboot to a black screen because the nvidia module isn't loaded. It's easy to fix, but it's been made into a meme because there's so many retards running Arch derivatives that babysit them now they don't know how to fix shit when it goes wrong. AMD drivers are literally baked into the kernel but they still give you an option to go proprietary if you want (who cares). The VR situation on Linux is still a complete shitshow because it requires collaboration between so many companies on issues that are so far down on the priority totem pole that shit progresses slowly. Now that Valve has basically saved Linux gaming, maybe they should save PCVR and focus on that since everybody else has abandoned it for mobile SOCs.

I'm not denying that AMD is overall better. I plan to switch to an AMD card specifically because Nvidia won't get their shit together regarding wayland. But the actual experience of playing games under a nvidia card on linux is greatly misrepresented. Most of the issues have are people not knowing how to use their distro, or their package manager, or how to generally troubleshoot normal problems.

Beatmapper? I've been using it but think I should be using something with a visible waveform next to it, I did try Chromapper but found the inability to drag blocks to face a direction a huge downgrade. How did you manage chains with it anyway? And if not Beatmapper which are you using?

40 bucks isn't too bad. I'm very hesitant because the first game was not worth it IMO. Here's hoping there's actually more to the campaign this time and they haven't just rehashed the empty environments, shit enemies and gone

Anonymous No.401832175
>>401831641
It's not bad, but it's $10 more than Boneworks, and we don't know how much of it is recycling assets from the first game, and whether the campaign is any better since once again, the game is just the campaign + a sandbox mode.

There's a drought of new VR games and no HL Alyx looming over them again, so they can get away with the $40, especially on Quest.

Multiplayer mods are usually just to play with people you know IRL tho (unlike VRChat). Plus it's gonna take more resources to run Bonelab and it's not gonna have non-vr support like VRChat does. I tried the bobovr without battery and the elite strap with battery and the elite strap was wayy more comfortable for my head at least. No matter what settings I tried the bobovr shit always felt like it'd fall off my head. The elite strap feels nice and secure, but it's still balanced too much to the front so I get VR face from it. The pico neo 4 headset looks amazing just because it balances this better and is 100g lighter overall (too bad its not available in the US tho).
Anyway the elite strap is way better imo but also it broke on me once and I had to get it replaced. It's super fragile and you need to be super careful when removing it from your headset because it's so fucking easy to crack. Just in-case anyone here has had the same issue as me, well I found out the supposed CTD wasn't it, but more the automatic shutdown from SteamVR. It automatically exits SteamVR after 10 minutes of inactivity, which happens when you're using the editor, which also shuts down BeatSaber.

So now it doesn't crash. The Official Mapper still has issues, but at least now it doesn't "crash" all the time.

If early u get so many unreleased courses, if late you get a single course while the devs work overtime to fix wtf just happened.
For example, while today, at 1 pm est, Jules Verne's 20000 Leagues under the sea was supposed to be released, but instead we got to see EVERY FUCKING UNRELEASED COURSE
including Myst, Journey to the Center of the Earth, and a few others like Zerzura (egyptian lost city), Alfheim Autumn, and Atlantis

I haven't used it as I have a better graphics card. When I did have a GTX970 I actually could run the game fine on the Index without mods sans some stutters in towns. It's a 2011 game after all. I imagine that with Pixelrim things should run fine even on higher resolution headset with your 3.5GB.

A new game selling early is a funtion of two things:
- Amount of hype/marketing
- People's trust in the developers considering their previous entries

The fact that Bonelab is such a hit is mostly because Boneworks was well received, did a lot of things other VR titles didn't, and wasn't afraid to get experimental. However, judging as it is so far, a lot of negatives about Boneworks can't be handwaved in Bonelabs in my opinion, as like it or not the platform is not that young anymore.

There's also the fact that PCVR is just desperate for big finished titles. Beside this and HL2VR, nothing really came out this year and most of the platform was supported by constant update of existing titles (ITR, Contractors).

Not sure if they just happened to hot patch this while I was doing it, but here’s the whole way that this went down, there’s a few things I did differently.

I opened bonelab, and the moment I started the game I then turned on the controllers

Before moving the controllers I opened openxr toolkit to start messing around. I then set controller emulation to both and it started working." - Discord guy

This is the year to be feeling the knock-on economic effects of the past two years. HL;A was like blowing a huge load and then the pandemic happened. Major publishers have canned VR experiments that probably would have sold poorly anyway, and the success and attention went into already established titles like Pavlov, Contractors, VR chat. Valve is in Valvetime mode as well. We don't know if they're actually improving SteamVR and the linux situation for the rumoured Deckard SOC or if they've dumped their entire hardware resources into the Deck. Meta's also looking to chop heads and cut costs because of how much money Zuck has been blowing. The next few years of truly quality VR titles are going to come from indie devs solely.

Yeah, I'm pretty disappointed. With VR games I always approach a try before buy these days. That's what I did for Outer Wilds. If the game is so good than you should feel guilty that you didn't pay for it. I paid for Boneworks and got very frustrated with a lot of the game design choices. So it's extremely disappointing to me that it seems like they haven't listened and are attempting a tonedeaf repackaged double dip for quest kiddies and those who have fomo

Hey, so, what could be causing higher frametimes (7 vs 4 ms), SteamVR overlay stuttering between positions when moving my head, and a feeling that 90 fps is more like 40 fps despite ok frametimes, and 144 fps mode stuttering massively? Everything works alright on Windows, but I get those issues on Linux for no clear reason.
Booting into Windows just to play VR sucks. Except for that, Index review update after a week: still lowish res (maybe tech needs 10 years), but at least on Windows it works great. Which again, sucks since I don't want to use that OS, but at least the VR experience is good. Smooth video, fabulous tracking, well thought through controllers, can sweat out in Beat Saber (please tell me this will help me lose weight), I already have a streamlined process for setting up the play area in 5 minutes so I don't get discouraged by this.
Really it amazes me how many of the not-core features just aren't present on Linux in SteamVR. Can't even try to write them myself because, haha, closed source. I need to wrap my head around Monado later (when I get rid of stutters).

Does Bonelab have the same annoyance of Boneworks where your arm never IKs to where your real one is half the time, and that causes it to collide with nearby geometry and fuck your climbing process? Ideally they'd just only consider your model's head/body/hands/feet for collisions and not the arms/legs.

High-effort modding is really a thing of the past. With amount of effort required to mod a 3d game, there are only a few exceptions left, like alyx (desire to get noticed by valve) and skyrim (autism).
To still make mods, you basically have to be smart and dumb at the same time.
If you are willing to invest so much energy into a mod, you might as well just download unity and shit out a whole vr game, instead of working for free to make a game of some lazy dev better.

It doesn't help that Unity is a terrible mapping tool also, even if you're using basic primitives or recycling the fuck out of some environment building blocks/props. I miss the BUILD/Hammer era of shitting out maps at the same quality as the game itself in just a weekend of fucking around. yeah it's annoying
it used to be easy for single neet to produce dlc that looked like official stuff, but now with everything having voice acting, high def textures, detailed models etc etc there is no way a normal person can output any quality stuff that isn't literally just copy pasting existing assets in the games
but at the same time, do we want to go back to games looking like shit just so it's possible for modders to produce official looking dlc? i don't think so
but ai tools will make it possible to do high quality mods again

maybe the 5090ti will run it at 70-80% res on 90hz but today we dont have consoomer grade hardware that could make that work.

obviously the pixel density will work wonders even when you use it at 50% of its native res. would try it gladly but I dont have 3-4k to spend

>people in /vrgg/ were skeptical as well, but anons mostly said surely they would have listened to feedback and improved the campaign while giving subtle tech improvements.
Nope. This game has all of the same problems as the first, with NONE of the feedback implemented, and it's shorter. These cunts really tried to take a 2.5 year old game and just bang it up for a quest release. I spent most of yesterday playing it and I can't even consider this a sequel or even a sidestep. It's literally just a repackaged "enhanced" version with zero fucking improvements to the game design. I know the last two years has been hard on everyone, but I wasn't even expecting something revolutionary. All I wanted was for them to listen to the fucking feedback on how to design a meaningfull campaign and not just repackaged a physics tech demo for quest kiddies.

Really glad they're trailers are honest enough to signal that it's the exact same shit for better or worse.

This is the thing that is most baffling to me. Boneworks was a tech demo, but you saw potential there amongst the jank and it's meh campaign. Then the devs went and addressed none of the jank in this follow-up. Wtf.

I've been fiddling with the graphics settings as well and I can honestly say that I think the game looks better at the performance setting, and I'm using a 3080ti. The things that kill my frametimes are the volumetrics, bloom, etc. The kind of settings that aren't really comfortable in VR because they just soften and blur the shit out of everything. Apart from that, the textures are fucked regardless. SSAO artifacting looks especially bad in VR and is a huge performance hit in this game. It really drives home that this was a quest title first and foremost (default texture resolution) and the pc version has some tacked on unoptimised post-fx settings.

So yeah, I just settled on making it look like the Quest version but high res at 120hz through link+oculuskiller because I can't stand high frametimes for these games.
Anonymous No.402020797 Replies: >>402020989

I honestly think that the campaign is less interesting than Bonework's. I really wanted them to expand on things, make some sprawling metroidvania type game where clever use of physics and gadgets would let you traverse a decaying virtual reality. Hardware limitations with it being a Quest games nerfed things, but the bigger part was laziness and the hope that playerbase would make worthwhile stuff even though the playerbase is tiny compared to Alyx much less highly modded games like Skyrim or Doom.
Anonymous No.402020989
>>402020797
Only thing you could say for Bonelabs is the official maps are so indie-tier on production values that modders can compete without looking woefully outclassed like with Alyx.

Okay, the story after key was a bit less than i expected. Eh, i get the point of the game, I don't hate it for what it is, but I can already see an incoming bad ending

>the entire game story is one big encouragement for content creation, but content in game barely exceeds tutorial material, it shows you a very rough idea of game mechanics and leaves it at that. someone forgot to lead by example
>sdk seems to be aiming for ease of use and that's great, but documentation seems to be written as we speak(?) and so far it barely goes anywhere than avatarmaking hello world
>modding era of people trying to provide singleplayer story content/levels/chapters is kinda gone unless i'm out of the cool kids loop, not sure if anyone's willing to make interesting levels or stories in lore
>and even if someone would be willing to do that, they won't do that because game is about to get a bad reputation because people expected a proper game, content, lots of things to go through, new interesting developments in this vauge boneworks lore, meanwhile the game

if they wanted content, they should add a wysiwyg level editor, just enough to spawn items and build doors with conditionals. could be a bitch ass puzzle platform, kind of physics-based portal 2

Wrote a draft.

Newfriend F.A.Q
>The image in the headset looks blurry. How to fix that?
1. Make sure the lenses are in proper focus by adjusting the headset on your head.
2. Increase the rendering resolution.
>Bruh, I'm getting dizzy from VR. Ima gonna puke fr fr no cap. What to do?
1. Do NOT try to push through the dizziness. When you're starting to feel sick, stop immediately or it's going to get MUCH worse.
2. Make sure you're hitting the frametimes.
To check your performance:
>Quest 2 Oculus Link:
Enable HUD with OculusDebugTool.
You can find it in "C:\Program Files\Oculus\Support\oculus-diagnostics\OculusDebugTool.exe"
>Quest 2 Virtual Desktop:
Press both sticks at the same time to enable performance HUD.
>Other headsets which work through SteamVR (index etc)
The easiest way is just to buy fpsVR on Steam.
3. Increase the refresh rate of the headset.
4. Play VR often and just take a break when you feel dizzy. Things will get better eventually.

Any suggestions?

Is my Ryzen 5 3600 too shit for Bonelab or is the game just stuttering for everybody? I have a 3080 so that doesn't seem like a bottleneck but I get stuttering every once in a while and can't manage to get a consistent 90fps even on "performance" mode. The creator said the physics is the same in Quest and PC so I would think a R5 3600 would beat an XR2 chip..

got 5600x, no stutters here, our CPUs are not very far off performance-wise. I'd look for reasons other than raw cpu power, maybe some dumb shit software running in background? I used to have a software ambilight thingy that would grab screen every 1/10s or so, and it was creating stutters while doing that.

Boneworks campaign length wasn't great, but for a $30 title and as their first game using all the tech they built, it was suitable.

Why Bonelabs is even shorter despite a higher pricetag and all of the asset recycling is beyond me.

Quest 2, bought from Oculus and streaming through Virtual Desktop (Airlink seemed shittier). Random frame drops happen even on performance mode when just walking around. It drops from 90 to 80 very often. Stuttering still happens if I turn my fps down to 72 in VD. VD is set to "High" and I set my Mbps way lower than id like (20mbps) and it still happens

Yeah, we figured. But don't worry, you are not the first one.
But anyway, if it's not ram, most likely it's unrelated to the CPU. I have ryzen 3600 too and I don't get any stutter (well, I also run overclocked 3800cl14 samsung b-die ram, but it shouldn't matter at 90hz).
> Random frame drops happen even on performance mode when just walking around.
Go to the settings in the game and set it to low just to see if stutter disappears.
You should be able to run it with "VD on high + bonelab on low" easily with your setup.
