If image in the headset looks blurry but fine on the monitor, increase your rendering resolution!
If you start to feel sick when playing, stop and have a rest. You'll get your VR legs eventually, just don't push it.

Real talk, is this general dead? Cause I appear to be the only making new threads and I'm probably gonna get bored of it soon.

I know most indie VR games look like this, especially on the Quest, but it looks bad in contrast with the awesome retro anime clips, it just doesn't work. The lack of arms and body is probably a big reason why.

Okay I played through one level but had to stop because I got sick feeling (despite having the headset for a year I still havent gotten over this, I dont play that often though)

1. The intro is very nice, you can customize your bike colors while you're sitting there listening to the anime dude on the screen. Amongst other things.

2. You control which direction your bike is going and the speed, you can move left and right and slow down to dodge stuff. Your bike can shoot, or you can grab a gun off the console of the bike and shoot that too (you need to do this to hit flying enemies and weak spots on vehicles)

3. The vibe is there, you feel kinda like you're in a 80's anime future city.

4. there is a boss vehicle at end of stage

4. I feel like i need to puke so thats all for now

So I took a look at the Bonelab SDK
Working with avatars is pretty easy, most of the work is done outside of the unity engine so the rest of the work is just importing and making sure things work right (which most modders don't seem to care to do, almost every quest avatar has broken thumbs)
A large problem, however, is the level editor. SL0 left out access to a ton of features that seem pretty necessary to ease of use. I haven't found any assets to generate something like a "Return to Hub" button easily. Doing things in a way the SDK isn't specifically scripted for also causes issues which are hard to diagnose until you realize you were supposed to do the same thing you just did, but in another way. Normally this wouldn't be an issue, but SL0's documentation is barebones at best. I suspect this is the main reason for most mod levels just being map ports, it's relatively easy to import a model, add colliders, and shit it out on mod(.)io. Unity addons seem to work well for doing things outside the SDK's scope, but going down that rabbit hole creates a lot of unknown variables that might not work well with the marrow engine.
I would say that much like the campaign, the SDK lacks depth. SL0 seriously needs to push out updates to add functionality to the level SDK before pushing out other features as unprepared as this.

Explicit scripting is completely unsupported at this time, only UnityEvents. Complete alternate gamemodes are far off, unless modders can get really creative. The Infinite Arena modder used a plugin called UltEvents to better utilize the UnityEvent system, so it can be decently robust but it's a much higher barrier to entry and it can only go so far. Any complex implementation is going to be very hacky.
Further mods to the engine are likely extremely unsupported, though I do imagine when scripting support launches they will give us access to the physics. Showing modders the moonbase level and not giving us gravity controls (or at least not fucking documenting it) NTRd a lot of modders.

Anonymous No.403239159

Not at this time, no. There easily could be support, but we'd never know because the only documentation SL0 supplied with the level editor is on how to make sure you won't phase through your HL2 map port. So far, the only thing you can do is runtime triggers. You can't even make cool puzzle levels yet since you have to code buttons yourself, and god knows if that'll even work.
I think the philosophy of SL0 is pretty clear, it's pretty much a group of autistic developers putting out products that, while incredible, are untested and hard to use. For example, in order to even get the assets from the game in your level, you have to download the ripped pallets from another modder, it's not actually included in the SDK.
The current restrictions really do suck, the campaign seemed like a huge inspiration to level modders, but almost none of the tools that SL0 used to make their own levels are actually there. It feels like a huge middle finger.

Anonymous No.403289292

90hz is the standard and this test was part of a much larger suite, including flatscreen games, so they just did it as a quick aside. Dedicated VR benchmarks on higher resolution HMDs are coming next week from them. But, unless you're using vsync to cap the frames generated, the hz rate doesn't matter for benchmarking purposes since the card will generate as much FPS as it can.

AR/MR for productivity is simply not disruptive enough to displace existing options for most people. If I need a portable screen a much cheaper tablet will usually be good enough. If I have to take a keyboard with me anyway then a laptop would work just as well. If I need to show something to people then a projector does a good enough job, there are even portable ones too. If I need multiple large monitors I will certainly need them for more than the 2 hour Quest pro battery life and I'd really rather do so without the discomfort of wearing a headset at all. I don't see much utility in moving my entire virtual workspace when remote support and meetings are becoming the norm.

The only business usages where the shortcomings are still justifiable are virtual training and 3d visualization, both of which have already established niche markets at this point.

Lovelace seems insanely efficient, because the 4090 can be power limited to 350w, down from 450 stock, and lose < 7% performance, from what some people have been testing. It can be power limited to 60%, below 300w, and still beat the 3090 by more than 30% despite pulling 50w less than it. That speaks pretty well for laptop configurations. Though, the 4090 die won't be making its way into laptops and it seems like Nvidia fucked everything below that card to make it look great, so who knows.

I forget this is /v/-derivative sometimes.
Something to note with the 4090 is that you would also need a high-end gaymen CPU to pair it with. Intel's 12k series(motherfuckers please stop using 5 digits), 13k series soon, or the 3D Zen variants can make full use of it.
Anonymous No.403436139

I hope AMD will go for the throat on pricing, because their manufacturing costs are lower than Nvidia due to the MCM designs at the high end. The 4090 is truly something from Nvidia, but the other cards are not looking so hot, particularly because DLSS 3.0 isn't VR applicable, which they're relying heavily on as a crutch to look better over last gen.

You're not wrong about the performance though. If pricing isn't totally screwed and a 500~ dollar card can perform close to the 3080, it'll make PCVR much more accessible with fewer compromises. But still have just enough of a cost barrier we won't be flooded with quest kiddies. Could be quite nice for helping PCVR, given how it has been losing ground for a bit.

Give it a month or two, maybe till the end of the year, and all should be fine. Nvidia has a huge surplus of inventory, there's a recession, and prices on the 3000 series are tanking and tempting some people to settle for those. Compared to the 3000 series that was the perfect storm of being unavailable, the 4000 series is a great combination of factors to help availability. It's normal for tech to be somewhat scarce for the first month or two though. Scalpers will probably try for a few weeks, realize the demand is ultra low vs the mining boom, then give up. In some countries you can just walk right into a store and get one because of how low interest in. In the US, demand is rather high though.

So my 9 year old is mentally disabled. She can’t speak or communicate in anyway, so finding things she likes is extremely difficult because she has never shown much interest in anything except watching movies… until I got her to try a VRChat on ly Quest. She went nuts for it and didn’t want to takenit off

Im new to VR myself, so any advice would be appreciated. I’m looking for a world that's relatively simple, simple to setup, simple to use. Ideally be able to show on a TV what she’s seeing so I can help her get to games or movies or w/e. The more immersive I’d say the better without comprising simplicity.

Anyone have any suggestions or opinions I’d really appreciate it.

VRChat has a lot of really interesting worlds to explore with the major caveat that the online portion of the game is not suitable for children in any way. Probably a good 70% of the population has toggleable genitals and should not be trusted around children.

If you were always supervising them and only visiting private worlds then there is technically nothing wrong with it but I still think it is probably going to cause you trouble down the line since the public lobbies are the main way to interact with the game and are displayed first in every menu so she's going to see them and assuming she enjoys the game she will probably want to visit the public ones at some point. It's a shame because it does have a lot of really interesting worlds to explore but it just isn't worth getting a child involved with it.

RecRoom has a similar user created content world exploring thing going on, the worlds aren't nearly as interesting but it's made for children so as long as you are supervising her it would be a much better choice. Other than that I'd say check out the Quest standalone games, there are a tone of kid friendly games on there.

not the anon you replied to but does this setup work well or is there a lot of finicky work you have to do? I am happy with my odyssey+ headset but absolutely hate the controllers and have been trying to think of a solution. $450 seems kind of steep just for controllers especially when I'm halfway to the full index set cost.
Anonymous No.403515771 Replies: >>403521616
>>403514518
It's pretty finnicky since play spaces need to be 'synced' between the two devices and you're relying on tools some guy in his spare time is making and they don't always work amazingly. Most people say they work fine though.

Play MSFS and say there's not a CPU bottleneck in VR. Some games can absolutely be CPU bottlenecked you retard. Doom Eternal is also one of the most optimized games around and isn't helping your case. I can pull up the 4090 being CPU bound even at 4k in some games.

I have to recalibrate once a month or so but it's way better than the standard controllers and tracking. You can always stick a vive tracker to your headset and not have to recalibrate at all. I'd say that it's worth it.

Cherry pick all you want, the rule is still "CPU doesn't really matter for VR".

For wireless PC VR, what is the best option on the market right now? I was hoping that the Meta Quest Pro would be better than it turned out to be and I'm looking to upgrade from my Vive Pro 1.

I've got a pretty powerful PC, 3090ti and i9 16 core overclocked. I was really excited for built in face tracking with the Quest Pro, Vive has a face tracker that when paired with the eye tracker upgrade would be great for social VR. As far as I know the Varjo Aero and Primax don't have wireless capabilities and don't have any kind of face tracking, so a Vive Pro 2 would offer the best resolution and still have face tracking and wireless accessories.

Have any of you used the air link system with a Quest 2 before? I'm curious to what the visual quality is like running a Meta headset off a PC. I've got the money to buy something high end, but I don't want to buy something only to realize it's not what I hoped for. I've got 4 steam base stations so I have pretty good tracking.

I'm also curious if it would be possible to connect the face tracking stuff on a Vive headset with the accessories or the built in face tracking on a Meta Quest pro to a vtubing program like live 2d.

keep in mind you'd need a wifi 6 router to keep up the 100 Mbps bitrate. the airlink connection is limited to 100 Mbps while cabled link is limited to 200 Mbps so you're still better off running Q2 cabled if you want maximum quality
upgrading from a 1660ti to a 3070 on ItR almost made me coom though
I've never tried other headsets but I don't think I would even consider playing VR with cables

Honestly could be a downgrade, depending on your preferences. The resolution and pixel density is vastly better, but the FoV is going to be noticeably worse by around 10+ degrees and the colors/contrast/blacks will be abysmal because of going from OLED to a poor quality LCD.

I kept disabled reprojection from 1700 testing, I don't want to setup headset again to check. On 1700 enabled reprojection caused SteamVR overlay stuttering between positions. I don't feel like it's any less smoother without it, in BS at least. It needs a few seconds to stabilize, and then head tracking gets comparable to Windows (with or without motion smoothing).
Although I hope Volvo gets some more work done on Linux SteamVR, there are many issues on GitHub that are quite old. It just feels halfbaked, but now at least ingame experience is alright. Or maybe Monado will become better and will be the runtime to use.

I wanna be excited for Bonelabs, but then I remembered that playing Boneworks just felt super empty and vapid for a game with so much thought put into it. It feels like they autistically obsessed over the game's frame work and forgot to actually put in the game part of the game. Which is how 99% of VR games feel. Boneworks game me a constant feeling of "ok... so when does the game start?" even 2 hours in.

I am in complete awe at the sheer power of the 4090. It's absolutely crushed nearly everything I've thrown at it, doing 90hz at 4920 x 3160 per eye on a Pimax 8k X with only 75-90% usage in most of what I'm playing. It finally feels like I have enough power in VR, despite the ridiculous resolution, and not even getting into foveated rendering or FSR mod yet. I don't play stuff like MSFS that'd probably still make it struggle, but it's so weird to not have to worry about dialing in settings in VR or just spend a few minutes on it and still not need to tone down much. If they make something that's even 50-60% of this next generation for under 700 bucks, that's gonna open up so many doors for somewhat more affordable and no compromises PCVR.

The only thing that's truly made it struggle has been the Resident Evil VR mods, but it still managed to do 60FPS without FSR and 75 with it. And Project Wingman on all maxed settings, but FSR mostly fixed that too with dialing shadows and clouds down one notch.

An interesting idea, but doesn't have a lot of content. There's nothing to do outside of building some tools and basic contraptions. You can't (feasibly) build structures and there's nothing to explore or find. You might as well just play the demo.

of what Ive played:

>Ancient dungeon
Fun little roguelike, it's a good pick-up-and-play game

>Legendary tales
Way too expensive for the barebones content; a skeleton, a bat, and a goblin enemy. 10 very repetitive levels ending in a boss fight. You can fuck up your character if you don't skill right and there's no reset, you have to start over. That said, they're working on a massive overhaul that's going to add a ton of stuff, so it will be interesting to see how it improves the game

>Primitier
Echoing anon above, there's not a whole lot in the game at the moment but it has promise for sure. If nothing else it's fun to run around and just whack stuff with a big fuckoff sword. At least, I don't think it's abandoned.

Anonymous No.403795671

There aren't any two handers, maybe a mod adds some, but you can definitely block and parry. The fast skeletons in the third area pretty much require you to shove them back with a weapon. It's extra fun if you hit them when they are mid-jump as they can go back further. The default loadout's sword is better then the assassin loadout's dagger for that reason. Everything has collision and weight to it.

You want to escape uncuffed for the D class victory plus it lets you play as the chaos guys. If you escape while cuffed it counts you as a scientist, that's why MTF want to cuff you in case they don't have enough scientists left alive. Chaos guys can uncuff you so if cuffed try to run away and either survive until they arrive or help your fellow Ds escape.

Playing this game is just tiring. Not that I can't handle it because "WOAH TOO INTENSE 4 U", but it's just a constant exercise in bad game design. Much like the first game they completely abstained from any kind of cohesive campaign with a narrative and continued to opt for shuffling you between cheap 2016 era thrill experiences with all of the same jank. Sometimes even more jank than the first. None of the new "tech" substantially contributes to the gameplay in any meaningful way.
>Hey we can swap avatars now and the proportions match!
Okay? cool that you solved that "problem" but none of any of it is applied to the game design in an appropriate way. The other thing that shits me is that on launch week you couldn't discuss any constructive criticism of this game outside of here because people just scream at you
>WHAT'S THE MATTER? GETTING MOTION SICKNESS? HEH, TOO *INTENSE* FOR YOU HUH? THE GAME IS PERFECT AND REVOLUTIONARY BECAUSE BRANDON SAID SO
So many kids caught up in the manufactured hype. And just like everything else, everybody has already moved onto the next flavor of the week. The ecelebs have milked it for what its worth as well.

Because no other VR program 'solved' the problem by just scaling your inputs based on where your arms are currently being tracked.

What sucks is this could have been cool for gameplay, but it's so cut&dry in Bonelabs that it's a complete waste of functionality when you can do 100% of the game with just two forms.

Spawns with weapons and lvl 2 keycard, wears black military gear. Has to kill the SCPs and chaos insurgents, extract the scientists, and extract class Ds after arresting them or kill them if they fail to comply.

>scientist
Spawns with lvl 2 keycard, wears a lab coat. Has to reach the surface and escape. Respawns as MTF if successful. I think that also respawns all dead players as MTF at the same time, but not sure.

>D-class (prisoners)
Spawns with nothing, wears orange jumpsuit. Has to evade MTF and escape. Respawns as chaos insurgents if successful and probably respawns dead players as chaos insurgents too. If arrested and extracted, respawns as MTF.

>Chaos insurgents
Same as MTF but with the opposite objectives: extract class-Ds, kill scientists and MTF. Wears green military gear. I think they're not allied with the SCPs, but not sure. None of these spawn at game start.

>SCPs

I used to play second life a lit back in the and it irks me how many furfags manage to have their own custom made shit in VR chat they paid out the ass for that only they can use, I remeber back in SL you could buy avatars straight up and wdit them inside the engine, or have someone clone the objects for you , and editing avatars was very modular and easy, even if you know fuck all about coding, but in VR chat you can't even put a shirt on an avatar without either paying some obscure artist over 9000 dollars or learn how to professionally use blender
Then these furniggers have their avatar rigged and perfectly synced with their real movements down to eye movements.

Which is part of the reason why SL's performance was always piss poor and you were considered lucky if you got above 30fps in any environment. Sorry there's a vertical wall that is learning how to 3d model and utilize a game engine for VRC?

Plenty of base models to buy you could modify the textures of if you want to keep it simple. In any case there's /vrg/ for bitching about that game.

Latest update (today) makes it so your items get dropped into a backpack on your corpse so there's no risk of it being through the geometry inaccessible. It's really not a harsh penalty and never was to begin with.
Actually now that I think about it the game isn't really that hard and is getting easier with every bug they fix. There used to be a bug where you'd get hit multiple times by one bullet and get instakilled by it. Made everything super dangerous, even PM police mimics would fuck you up. Now that's not the case. They're still dangerous but there's no longer the risk of being instakilled and having your stuff be lost forever in the void because you didn't check your corners one time.

Vanilla SMGs are so awful to use due to the shitty armor balance, most people just buy a deagle/revolver if they can't afford a rifle. They do almost no HP damage until you've broken the enemy's armor which can take 5 shots or more for some weapons. The miniAK still has vanilla stats in the Gem server and nobody uses it outside of pregame deathmatch because it sucks to hit a good burst or lose a trade then see that you've barely tickled the enemy.

You need to determine a few things BEFORE you even get locked on to. Read the briefing and see what targets could return fire.
for Missiles:
MAD-4 stay the fuck away from these. If your high, your fucked. These will pitbull on you.
SAM generally easier to defeat, high g's work rather well but you loose a lot of energy. Some come with pitbull but most don't
MANPAD throttle down and flare
SAAW dont be high with these guys, get low and terrain mask
A to A high g, notch, terrain, chafe
Sea SAM its a sam on a boat
Sea IR its just like a manpad on a boat

Once you destroy radars, you have the option to stay high and above any IR threats. as for general techniques for missile avoidance. you want to fly perpendicular to the oncoming missile to drain its energy(beaming), then if its still get close enough push it in a direction and do a high g move.
tldr
id threat, choose best avoidance, execute.

We also need HDR10. I recently bought some low-ish-end HD400 display, and games already look insanely pretty, I never understood how bad bright sky looks like on SDR until i saw it in higher brightness range. That would probably also solve the issue of zero black vs very low black being a non-negligible drop, I remember it didn't look horribly good in CV1. Index looks so bad ever since I've got to experience HDR.

Nah Pistol Whip is just a shitty sandbox as far as I can tell, I think I played it for like 10 minutes then gave up it's so bad.
ITR is not that complicated, it doesn't really "pick up", it's just exploring around a wasteland occasionally shooting shadow monsters with some light survival mechanics.
Anonymous No.404313957

I don't mean that entire CV1 panel looks bad, I just meant that the difference between zero-black and minimum black level was visible. But now that I think about it, I think that was DK2, and CV1 was never actually turning pixels off. Damn, can't even remember anymore.

There's a reason a lot of games from last-gen onwards dynamically adjust the exposure levels based on what you're looking at. A proper HDR display + game doesn't need it at all while preserving any intensity/colours.

Personally only ever saw the mura on a pitch black screen (eg. Loading screen). Actual dark locations within a game were a non-issue.

I had a grey fingerprint pattern coving 90% of the screens in dark scenes. I managed to fix it by deleting a specific file and replacing it with an empty one, but others reported that not working.

Standalone is the future, devs sell way more games on the Quest 2 than PCVR platforms. Plus playing without the wire is great, I started using a cable with my Quest 2 but I've since switched to VD because it's just more comfy.

For pistol whip you can change some setting/modifier before playing a level that makes it so you really have to aim at the target and not only generally pointing torwards it. Reloading was I think just pointing the gun down and up again

Oculus software does attempt to generate an anti-mura pattern for dark scenes (like a little noise filter) but it's not perfect sometimes. I assume that's the file you were fucking with.

running the frame rate above your limit is actually pretty ugly since sometimes you get frame drops because your rig isn't strong enough. I'd rather get a 72hz constant fps rather than 90hz -> 45hz -> 90hz
but hey poorfags will cope
