And finally, we have an area where you can try out the headsets! Some of my impressions:

- Headset is very easy to slip on and off, and is very light.
- Hand and face tracking seems to work well. The demos didn't have a mirror or anything so I couldn't examine the full range that hand tracking works in, but it's serviceable for the front field of view at least
-There is a LOT of light bleed. There is no bottom gasket and the screen sits like an inch and a half from your eyes, so the vertical field of view kind of sucks and you can see straight down out of the headset if you look down, which is probably by design. Not a problem for AR applications, and in fact is pretty helpful, but I wouldn't enjoy it in actual VR stuff.
-The passthrough is pretty decent, although it's not anywhere near as sharp as real life, obviously. I wouldn't want to use it for any precision work, or even writing/reading physical papers through the passthrough, but I could see it being great for applications that don't require such detail.

Overall it's pretty decent, but fov issues make me hesitant to pick one up as a main index replacement. I'd consider getting one for AR, but the blur on the passthrough eliminates a lot of the applications I'd like to use that for. If face and eye tracking is a really big deal for you then it might be worth it.

I wonder if the quest pro is going to become the new standard for any headsets out there. it really stinks that my pcvr can only be used within my living room. such an expensive piece of hardware only to be used within 5 m^2. Theres a lot that I can imagine a headset can to and can be useful for outside of the room, but it also needs to be built for that. i won't want to take an index outside. I can see it being essentially a phone replacement. aside from a bunch of glaring issues.
1. battery
the battery would need to 10x to be somewhat useful and something like 100x to become a phone replacement.
2. resolution
i can see this becoming very annoying to do daily things with this low of a res. but its not too bad right now
3. fov
not everything is going to be within the fov, and for immersive vr stuff it needs to be better.
4. passthrough
while the passthrough works, this too will need to be 2x to 4x in resolution and reduction in blurry and 'waveyness'
5. applications
right now everything that meta offers absolutely sucks. Its not a chillout, nor vrchat, and doenst come close to Neos. the browser/virtual desktop can be good. but im not even talking about a killer app. Something that can tie everything together. like a discord but VR.
6. Open Sores
They've kinda sucked on this. If they'd open source most things about the headset, i bet we wouldn't feel so stuck behind the times STILL. We've had extremely gradual 'upgrades' for VR.

I think its a really rough start on a devices that will replace the phone eventually but its very awkward position right now. it has the best options for an xr headset right now. but there is nothing new that you can do with it. face and eye tracking? htc's had a good chunk of the market even if meta is better at it. Passthrough? did you know your index can do 3d color reprojection? even so its only really to demo stuff. Hand tracking? still not good enough to run without controllers. standalone? not powerfull enough to do much.

Can I join without a custom costume? I just got VR after using my brother's set and I just wanna hang out.

Eventually the VRC devs will bother having the client be able to measure active avatar performance impact by milliseconds, and you can just have it filter avatars that break a certain threshold.

some more thoughts on the quest pro after using it for a short evening in vrc. once you figure out the fit wearing it for hours is no problem, it does leave a mark on your forehead but it's not as bad as a tight facial interface. left the headset unplugged until it got to about 50%, plugged it in and stayed on for a few more hours and when i left the headset was at 28% so it seems like no mater what it will be drawing more than it can charge. i have the option to go back and forth between controllers and hand tracking, at one point when i was moving things on my desk the hand tracking took over. this was using virtual desktop, it wasn't full hand tracking but regular controller style input using the hand tracking. if you don't have money to throw away, i wouldn't recommend picking it up and instead hope gabe finally delivers deckard

There is some beginning to be some data now that there might be two versions of Quest Pro with panels made by different manufacturers. This matters because there is some variation between them, and one of them is visibly worse. On Quest 2, there was JDI and Sharp, and the Sharp panels were apparently the better ones. Quest Pro so far is known to have BOE panels, but we are still figuring things out right now beyond that.

I got one that can output up to 30w on its usb-c port and put a usb watt meter thing on it to see. Quest via usb-c when turned on only seems to take 15w, but it does slowly charge as it is plugged in at least with eye and face tracking off.

spent a bit of time trying out hand tracking to move in the vrc beta. you really need to exaggerate the hand shapes but it works pretty well, the only issue seems to be doing very small adjustments is impossible

You are wasting your breath. 80 people all in default avatars is still going to lag. All those animators and player objects are still running. VRC just does not scale well for events of this size and groups this big. You may save a few frames by enforcing certain optimization standards, but there's a few lag-causers like grabpasses that you can't detect anyway.
Want to help solve the performance problem, start telling people to stop using grabpass refraction/blur on their glasses. I feel like that alone would save a lot more than you would think and then we can stop kvetching about people being 1k polys over the limit.
