It was the best game, just not the best VR implementation.
>>413272107
VR implementation was pretty good strangely enough, but lack of IRL roomspace movement and janky throwing made it feel pretty bad. Also, performance is not good at all.
NPCs have physics, there is difference between tapping, slapping, hitting, the react, get annoyed by your touch. You can press buttons and open doors physically.
I really enjoyed playing hitman in VR, after I remaped some controlls and got used to stand in the middle and recenter from time to time.
>>413262757
You've got to be kidding me.
>>413272437
Same, I enjoyed replaying it in VR. Lots of other nice details like gun sights being accurate, knives sticking into people where you stabbed them and tons of random objects being smashable.
Performance is bad but I found it easier to get playable than No Man's Sky or Green Hell VR which both looked much worse at lower settings.
>>413269846

Honestly? That's a good thing. Fuck off we're full. Fewer people getting into vr means fewer cases I have to hear about child abductions or some copy-and-paste story about pedo sex cults I hear or gets posted every other week on either vrg or vrgg. It's better off niche, very very niche.

I just played red matter for like an hour and its performance was horrendous. I can run plenty of other shit on higher settings. Is there just something fucked up in Red Matter?
>>413311171
I think it's just fucked up. My specs aren't top of the line but it's a standalone game so something's up. It's also blurry as shit without cranking supersampling because they're using the UE4 TAA solution which is awful in VR. Game looks pretty in stills at least.
>>413272437
I'm glad that someone else felt the same way. Everything being physics based due to it actually being based on a good immersive sim really lets cool things happen in VR. Unlike the flat version you can pistol whip enemies to knock them out, which is entirely an emergent feature via the physics rather than something scripted. My biggest gripe is that the normally pretty graphics are clamped at PSVR levels due to IO's laziness.
Given that the other nominees were even worse than Hitman 3 VR I'd say that it deserved its award.
Huh, Breachers managed to implement some form of leaning without requiring body trackers. Was wondering if a game was going to be able to do that.
Tried the ItR STALKER balance mod. AK mimics in the first zone as a common enemy. First buy after the first mission was a PP91. Needed it for the film canister mission really fucking bad. The reduced enemy perception is really noticeable which is kinda nice but fast>quiet ever time.

>>413333549
The early armored enemies are the biggest challenge. I'm not used to bringing AP ammo so early and it's refreshing to find myself using grenades or setting ambushes with propane tanks for once.
The random loot is exciting and quite generous, I only used the store to buy a Mosin and the rest of my stash so far is scavenged. Managing all of the random bullets was a pain before I had boxes for them and it's still a little tedious having to sort them all after a mission.
>>413351591
It seems like the community has just abandoned any attempt to keep the mods working properly at this point.
I hate ItR shelfs so fucking much it's unreal.

>>413349749
VR gaming is both dead and inevitable at the same time. Sucks that we have to wait for the normies to catch on till enough devs get off their assess and invest seriously. The complaints id have about the hardware are fading away with each iteration. My biggest gripe right now is needing a cable for high end VR with all the graphics and resolution cranked up.
Why weapons held by other players in Pavlov not move on the 'roll' axis? I always presumed it was a networking optimization so that information didn't have to be transmitted, but after doing some gamedev that seems to be worse for performance. Is it to simplify the IK calculations?
>>413354252
>VR gaming is both dead and inevitable at the same time
Its going to be a long 10 years for normies to catch up. Hopefully hardware is able to do native wireless 16K on both eyes by that time. For now the most prominent vr game, vrc, averages on about 20K players, with the average players for other "sucessful" vr titles ranging from a few dozen to at best 1000 players.
On the othe hand CS: GO sits at 1 Million players on average, with the following most played titles all in the upper 100Ks.
>devs get off their assess and invest seriously
somebody needs to pay the dev and therefore the financiers need to be convinced that VR is a growth market that is going to be where CS: GO is now in 10 years
>>413354252
The big games are in development right now, apparently.
>>413357727
>a few dozen to at best 1000 players.
On Steam.
Meanwhile on Quest Gorilla Tag has been consistently hitting >20k at peak (NA) time for the last 6 months. Doesn't paint a great picture for PCVR.
>>413358153
what games?
>>413358713
Where do you get such data for meta from?
>>413358153
AHHAHAHAHAHHAAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHHHAHAHAHAHAHAH
>>413358974
There is none as far as I know. That data is from the usercount bot in the Gorilla Tag discord. It's also the yearly data, not 6 month so my mistake there.
I wish we had data for more Quest games. I've asked some devs but the few who responded didn't give out any concrete information, just vague stuff like '3-5x as many active players'.
Hyperdash have a current playercount at https://dashlist.hyperdash.dev/players I saw 2.5k at ~midnight UTC a few days after it went F2P. It's easy to subtract the Steam players from that kind of information.
I picked up Assetto Corsa for VR over the steam sale and have been looking into mods - but the link from the OP is dead
Is there a reupload? Or is the /vg/ AC server dead
>>413359601
a shame. Such data is what can be sold if number go up or sugar coated when its stagnating or number goes down, its something people can grasp, data on which devs as financiers can built on to make predictions and risk reward analysis.
>2.5k
now its around 500 compared to the 15 on steam. and gorilla tag at 500 on steam, with if the above chart holds true probably bit lower then 10kish on quest. Two titles is certainly not enough to make a generalization, but if quest player numbers are consisntently around a 25x higher than steam, mark would be stupid to not use it for advertising
>>413359607
You need content manager, custom shaders patch, and SoL with pure. Everything else is just tracks and cars.
>>413359607
>>413362783
Also depending on what headset you're using opencomposite with openxr will give you better performance.
https://gitlab.com/znixian/OpenOVR/-/tree/openxr#downloading-and-installation
>>413361413
Not all games will see those kind of increases. Both Gorilla Tag and Hyperdash look decent on standalone and play so much better without a cable that people who own both often choose Quest.
Contractors has a lot of Quest players but when I counted all the players currently in the servers and compared to Steam numbers at peak NA time it was closer to 10x.
At the lowest end Vox Machinae failed to gain a constant playerbase so the game is dead outside of peak time despite having a Quest port. It only picks up when the regular players log in and most of them are playing the PCVR version.
Related to the Vox issue it's interesting how sharp the peaks and troughs are for VR. You can really see how dominant the NA market is with this 24 hour Gorilla Tag graph.
is contractors worth getting while its on sale?
>>413367357
sure, there's enough vrg lobbies to get your money's worth out of it eventually
>>413362783
>>413362919
I found my way to content manager and custom shaders but the rest escapes me, is there a decent place to find car and track mods that aren't behind a paywall?
Is SoL a weather overhaul? How does pure interact with it?
I'll investigate openxr to see if it'll be helpful
What do you think about the new female (male) player models in Pavlov?
>>413371239

Sol is the weather simulation scripts and controller
https://www.racedepartment.com/downloads/sol.24914/
Pure changes the lighting in AC to make brightness and exposure look more realistic, particularly at night. It can be used with or without Sol as Sol still has more weather options. I think it's intended to eventually replace Sol but right now it's Patreon only.
You can find a lot of great mods, maps and tracks on racedepartment. Some only have the full/premium versions on discord or behind various paywalls.
cs.rin.ru has an AC thread for mod piracy.

EU VTOL in one hour!
Switching to 1900 UTC
>>413368867
Just watch a youtube on how to set up pure. It will tell you about CM, SP, SoL and everything. For tracks you can start with shutoko revival project and LA canyons. These are the two most popular and some of their servers have car packs. For other car mods just get anything you like from google. The quality may vary, but it's AC. The opencomposite/openxr thing is not directly related to AC, it just bypasses steamvr for WMR headsets and whatever the fuck faceshit headsets use to give you better peformance, which you will need for bigger tracks like SRP and AC most likely.

Other player's gun movements are completely different to what they're actually doing. Even the spray patterns are different. Tracers will still follow where the gun appears to be pointing but the actual damage will be where the player shooting sees they are hitting. Very noticeable with the p90 which goes to the side.
>>413383940
With that requirement we'd never have more than a 3 player lobby.

>A door painted with the instruction ‘don’t blink’ opens up into a room of blood-smeared mannequins in harlequin masks, their bodies twisted into unnatural poses. Eventually we can’t help it anymore, and let our eyelids flutter closed. When they open again, the mannequins have been rearranged – or have rearranged themselves. Another blink, and it happens again, except that one of them has now come to life. As we repeat this process, we learn to use our eyes tactically, only blinking once our guns are readied.

This made me realize; the devs of Before Your Eyes should make a VR version. The art style is plain and boring, but the game experience itself would fit the VR tech like a glove, and probably be even better.

The best we can hope for in the short term is developers making VR conversions on existing full fledged desktop games. But thats proven to be a stretch outside of sim racing and flying.
2023.
And it doesnt look like we're escaping the cancer of platform exclusively with Playstation and Oculus/Meta. Its created this dilemma where we need them to succeed to bring more normies into VR, but i also want them to go fucking bankrupt and abandon VR entirely so we can stop dealing with their greedy playerbase dividing bullshit.
>still want an obnoxiously detailed mech sim
>I want to have to shift gears with a clutch as my mech's engine throttles up
>I want half a dozen, but all individually functional, startup switches
>I want crunchy audio of things happening within and around my mech
I have to subsist on elite dangerous for the time being since Vox machinae looks like shitty cartoons, and iron rebellion is an arena shooter with extra steps.
>want a 8 hour battletech title where you're just a local lordling piloting the family locust as part of a light lance and a third of the game is cannibalizing damaged equipment with diagnostics procedures during long mechwalk travel
>the lance can't stopping until they get to the battle zone so you have 40 minutes to repel and tether around your mech's chassis to weld and bolt in replacement components before you arrive
>the post battle phase is a quick scavenging where you climb on the remains of downed enemy mechs looking for usable components to pack into the cargo truck before moving on
Outside the mech, you basically have a grappling hook, crowbar, and welding torch. The whole game has a 3 or 4 hour radio play's worth of lance comms happening in the background.

I bought Hyper Dash on Jan 1st 2022 in the forlorn hope vrg/vrgg would pick it up again like NA/Eu did a year-ish prior in the open beta. Never happened. If I play any vr mp game period I want to do it with friends/fellow channers. The only exception to this is pavlov pub dms. There's a good chance I'll never actually play Phasmophobia because I like to be chaotic in games like these and they nerfed having any semblance of casual fun from what I hear. In any case I've been meaning to get into car stuff so I bought Assetoo Corsa bundle on a whim. Might look into G29 wheel too.
>>413490149

Open the SteamVR controls menu.
>>413506308
yes
I VR in Linux with a Valve Index
>>413512728
I've tried that to remove the teleport on touch part by unbinding touch. Still teleports when I push it and not sure how to stop that or menu options for that.
>>413506308
I don't think I ever had that issue

Show the bindings page.

unless I'm confused what direct display mode is
>>413514862
The headset can act as a (bad) monitor if direct display mode isn't on.
>>413510348
Linux is for gayming too.

Gotta search again. Maybe it's a wayland issue
>>413529336
Also assuming all the linux gaymers are on AMD as well?
unless Nvidia has had open source progress that I'm not aware of
>>413530550
Yeah, RX5600. X not wayland.
>>413529336
yea Wayland sucks
just use X11
>>413530550
it worked great on a 3090
I have grown despondent over the state of VR adventure RPGs and dungeon crawlers. Where we once had lots of games of various quality they've completely fizzled out over the past two years. Mostly just janky prealpha trash and those dogshit overused 'POLYGON' asset flips left now.
Ancient Dungeon is the only recent-ish release worth mentioning. If one guy could make that and prove the genre still has potential then maybe it's time I try my hand at it too.
>>413529336
Wayland is generally better for AMD cards
Which DE and GPU are you using, what is the actual problem with direct mode?
>>413533958
did blade and sorcery ever do its roguelike mode? I remember hearing about it, until every semi-successful pcvr dev started working on quest ports.
>>413536827
Crystal Hunt next year, like the yerar before. Next upgrade is going to integrate breakables, and hopefully custom dungeon sdk level builder
>>413533958
I think they kinda got btfo with the modded Skyrim VR craze. Its hard to compete with a game of that notoriety.
Mind you I never got my Skyrim VR to work properly so I would totally welcome good made-for-VR titles.

Gonna try with X now.
Switched from X to wayland a few months ago due to some weird fullscreen issue with mpv. Stayed on wayland since then with no problems until VR.

KDE plasma and a 6800.
The problem is steamVR opens up like if direct mode wasn't enabled despite it being checked. The only thing I've found that works is just continuously hitting restart headset on the settings (basically closing and opening steamVR a couple of times)
Going to try X now so hopefully shit just works.
>>413549348
Haven't tried VR yet, but I'm getting the fullscreen issue with mpv again.
I wonder what the fuck is going on here, running EndeavorOS with KDE plasma the same as a previous Manjaro install but mpv is doing something weird on X11.

Seconding

Asgard's Wrath is the only other VR RPG that sort of reaches the same quality but not really. Get a Skyrim Wabbajack mod list with a bunch of quest mods (Love The Forgotten City) and you already have something that eclipses 99% of VR games even though it was made by modders in their spare time. At this point I look forward more to new mods for Skyrim than actual new VR releases.

Not as good without the music. Yachatta I'm assuming?
>>413488505
I was tempted but ultimately got nothing because I just upgraded my rig
Too bad VNs are not profitable and for their latest game they had to break it into 3 episodes $20 each and ask another company to make a switch port
>want to watch a decent new VR movie
>one of the few around with true 3d is Alita Battle Angel
>the 3d version is only 1080p and looks like potato quality in VR
Why would they do this? Why not record it in 4k like the main dvd/bluray? So glad i didnt pay for it.
Its kinda pathetic that in this day and age there is hundreds of hours of VR porn up to eye level fidelity, and yet almost nothing from normal tv shows and movies.
>>413550806
issue as in?
>>413555972
Some audio fuckery, tested it while on a call and the receiver was basically inaudible. mpv was dropping frames even with no config enabled so wakarimasenlol just take it like a cuckold and keep restarting steamVR.
>>413556384
>mpv dropping frames
could be defaulting to the wrong video driver api
mpv has so many
>>413536827
The one dungeon it currently has is randomly generated from parts in a rogue-like way. Pretty fun but generates a new one everytime you die.

>On Switch but not on PC
It's their own damn fault. I pirated Mahoyo too because the English version didn't come out on PC. At least that has Type Moon's name behind it unlike that mediocre dreck.
