I feel sorry for you. I also played with 1060 for a while. You basically can't enter rooms with more than 20 people and ideally no more than 10. Hide all very poor avatars and hide all but closest 10? avatars. You have this in performance tab. You can manually unhide specific persons if you want.

VRC is unoptimizable if you want to run it with 100% content visibility, in the same way as it used to run before anticheat changes and new optimization options on client side. I got 5600x, 3080ti, and game would still run 20fps every now and then if I wouldn't set restrictions. On 1080 it was just plain crashing every now and then. Make sure to set your avatar distance limit, disable avatars from unknown users, all of that helps a lot.

:: FRIEND BY FRIEND - /vrg/ Shuffler Event | February 11 ::
Friends come from all places and walks of lives.

5 minutes at a time with another anon in a room 1 on 1 while everyone gets shuffled round robin style until everyone in the room gets matched up.
Build NEW and OLD friendships alike through around the whole town/city and unexpected locations with people you usually don't get to talk with.

Question/Action cards are available on the table in the middle for when you don't know what to talk about. Currently there are 200+ cards from 2019+2020+2021+2022 valentines.
(Looking for more questions/actions when possible, so please reply to this post on a question you think might be good for breaking the ice or continuing conversations)

And no complaining about the card quality if you didn't send one!

And as always, hope everyone have fun with each other and forge great friendships after the event!

Are you really friends with your friends if you just keep searching for new company…

I’ve found me friends. I have known them for 5 years and the relationship only gets better like a fine wine. If you keep searching for company then maybe you aren’t searching for a friend but rather selfishly searching for a prey that can satisfy your needs. Maybe the reason you can’t find love or strong bonds is because you are the problem…

Love goes both ways but if you only believe it goes one way then you’ll never find love.

If you couple this idea with an Udon thing that allows the instance owner (and/or select people) to teleport suspected randos to a separate "jail" room, the host can dip out for a bit during break time to interrogate the randos in jail and then either free them or kick them.

>to let a predefined group of people deal with randos by teleporting them to a "jail" using Udon?
Sounds too moderatey to me and gives too much power without accountability since we won't know who among the group of people kicked.
A single instance owner can be made responsible (aka the host)

I'll think of a way for people to more easily request the instance owner's assistance like a request "owner teleport" ? This sounds incredibly hard to code. Closest I can think of is the B-club invite request but I'm unsure if B-kun would be willing to share tools of the trade stuff that earns him a living.

But the best way is for people to maybe coordinate with the host via "vote kicks" if they get past the code system.

And interrogation system for the host could be wicked cool where they can teleport specific people to them like a reverse of friend finder.
But again unsure if I can code this. If someone can reverse engineer friend finder and reverse the teleportation system I'll plug it in if it has no unforseen consequence.

Considering jumping into this should prices dip a little. Thinking on using pico4, just because quest2 users being remotely shut down for wrongthink is a bit too much for me, plus having to connect a non-throwaway facebook account to it.

Thoughts on the pico4? I wouldn't only want it to vrc but also to play martial arts games that involve punching. I have an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6GB... How far am I off my target here? I don't really care about having to recharge my batteries every 2 hours, if my pc gpu can't handle vr, it's good to take breaks anyway.

I don't need a hundred games to be satisfied, only one that's replayable and good to add to my workout regimen to spice things up a bit.

Exploration IS a hangout.
It's very rare for weekday instances to just be a "hangout", especially during EU.
I post friday/saturday night hangout instance links sometimes for actual "hangouts" where we stick to a single map for a good couple of hours and just talk and chill. But often I forget or don't see the need.
But if someone on the thread asks, I will post one or get the instance owner to post one.
So next time, just ask anywhere after 21:00 UTC on a friday or saturday.
Seasonal events should just have a no-first timers policy. It would save so much trouble and headache and the only loss is that newfags have to join a regular hangout and can just make it to the next event.

I think a code would be a better solution than a group.
Just gotta put a banner over the keypad that says "code can be found in the thread" to eliminate confusion while still keeping the randos out.
The problem with groups is that everyone shows up as being in a private instance (even if you share the same group), the instances list in groups is still a bit fucked and broken as groups is very unfinished, and you can't properly see who is where.
Anonymous No.416266940

Temporary event groups are not perfect at all.
That requires pre-verification from a host
requires people to click multiple times to request join group for a sign up upon which the host has to have a chat with them to see if they are from 4chan. A very nerve wracking interview to some
Both makes and adds a lot of overhead to joining the event.

Compare that to just reading the thread and looking for the code from the event post on the day of the event.

What's wrong with showing up in a private instance? It's literally a /vrg/ event. It says it on the poster and everything too. Only people who are /vrg/ should be in it and those people will have known about it already and have seen the poster. It being private has no bearing on it whatsoever.

also the group must necessarily be open to join and at that point a rando can just join the group from their friend and join anyway.
I hate the concept of having a "code" but it's the best automated way to only allow in people who read the thread.
Both with groups and with a code, you'd also be keeping out people who use 4chan a lot but don't actively read this thread, both with groups and with threads. Remember that this is supposed to be a 4chan community and not just "exclusively people who read this one general every day".

That's a deeper-rooted issue in your culture. A lot of NA's don't initiate votekicks fast enough on randos, a lot will outright say they always vote "no" on any votekicks, and instance owners are rarely around to kick randos.

"The" instance? Which of the 3-4? You can't fit that many people in an instance with a hardcap of 64 so multiple instances are a guarantee.
So you set up like 3 join links in the thread and post them. It's gonna get buried under the other spam here and hard to find. You're gonna spend the entire event running around like a madman ensuring people are on Red status. Eventually someone will join that isn't on red and the jig is up.
Of course, assuming people will bother with that and not just join on the open Friends+ instances that people are hosting instead, because they think your requirements are gay and the community has no real leaders so anyone can do it.

I tried out group instances to see how they would work and I don't think they're a good fit for friend by friend at all.
First of all, you can't see which people are in which instance, making it hard to move to a more desirable instance (which people do a lot during the event).
Second, there is no instance owner, the "owner" is just the group. This means that only pre-selected "moderators" can moderate instances. The person who created the instance can't even do it.
So if these moderators are absent, then there is no way to kick problematic people, randos or the underaged who may find their way in.
This also creates drama because then you would have to "select" moderators yourself. I recall you saying you didn't want to do this.
And finally, instances seem to stick around in the list for about 30 minutes right now even if they're empty. This means a malicious user or a troll can just spam-create new instances, clog up the list and push the "real" instance way down.
The group instance list says it's sorted by "Total members", but it seems to be sorted by date created instead. Pic related, the total member count seems to be broken and always shows up as 0 people.

tl;dr: don't do this.

Having multiple moderators is a positive actually though. It allows for less burden on one person and allows the host to swap in and out with other hosts. If the singular host leaves then you have the same problem as the one posed. With more moderators the problem is less of an issue. No, because if the instance owners pass out, have to leave, or their internet/PC dies or whatever people can just make their own instance instead and then that instance is guaranteed to have a moderator.

If you teleport to someone in a room, chances are the room isn't loaded or enabled for the instance owner and they would fall through the floor. Unless you leave the colliders always enabled for all rooms, that is. That could be viable.
It's definitely possible to teleport others towards you, but it would be a lot more effort.

Daijobou it's coded separately. It's an on-enter trigger if you are near one of the rooms to load it.
So you won't fall through the floor.

Basically:
- Instance is owned by the "group" and all the group's moderators can kick people
- Anyone can join on the instance if they are either in the group, or if a friend of them is in there
- The instance will show up in the group instance list so it's easy to find even if you have no one friended
Basically, it's a Friends+ instance but the group moderators have moderation powers.
The only issue is that you need influxes of new moderators that won't abuse their power. That might be literally impossible. The instance creator currently doesn't get moderation powers if they make it a group instance. I can also foresee the group being very NA-centric leaving no real moderators for EU instances.
Anonymous No.416275706 Replies: >>416275863

Regular group instances are already moderated by group moderators. "Group+" would just be groups that can also be joined by people not in the group.
Anonymous No.416275748
>>416275640
Also another issue is that we don't actually have Group+ instances yet and we might never get them
Friends+ with good instance owners is currently the best solution and this has worked for years. It's pretty straightforward to herd people into a new instance or start votekicks if undesirables or underaged join.

Personally I don't know if it's worth transferring existing projects to VCC, I felt it was easier to just make a new one and keep using older ones as they are.

The code by itself is already good, we just need the instance owner to take those 5 minutes during break time and go clear out spawn from all the randos that stuck around. The mute zone is a nice idea for next time. But who knows, maybe by next time we'll have a better solution already.

>"oh, never mind I guess"
I guess you wouldn't understand if you don't have any actual friends.

we should be trying to actively welcome anyone that browses 4chan and actively repelling anyone that doesn't. a sign that says "check the thread" isn't going to let in any more randos, so what's the problem with having it there? other than some seething tranny that's probably going to tell the code to their discord friends anyway?
personally i joined on the idol event and was stuck at spawn for a bit until my stoned ass finally remembered that the code is in the thread. then i had to scroll past 500 jelly schizoposts to find it because CTRL+F for "idol" or "event" didn't turn up anything useful.

New Years had like 120 people in the instances during EU hours and 3 full instances during NA (around 200 people total probably). That's what happens when you pull in a lot of people, especially because the people here are more likely to have friends that browse 4chan even if they don't browse /vrg/ specifically. It's a selection bias. The types of people I hang around with outside of /vrg/ also have a fair amount of 4chan users because those are the type of people I associate with.

Why does this group sperg so hard about randos?

None of the 4chan groups I hang with have this problem. And they have fewer randos than this group does. In most other 4chan groups, people will interact with randos and not sperg out but will very quickly shun them when they do something that makes it obvious they don't fit in. This system works perfectly fine.
But here, people nuclear sperg when they see randos. They complain about how nothing is being done. They bitch at everyone around them about randos get in. They try create votekicking pyramids. They start demanding groups. Why does this group do that? Is it just powergrabbers trying to get more control? I really don't get it. It seems like it always leads to legitimate newfriends being kicked or scared away. The constant negativity and bitching is a mood killer as well.

the is essentially vrchat general and vrchat runs like shit and has limited slots for events etc. when there are randos amongus, you feel it a lot more than say, randos in your wow guild. just by existing with a shit model you will irritate people. the game is also 13+ with a crap load of kids with quests. and multiple schizos who will do everything in their power to confirm their biases about grooming etc.

Unnecessarily difficult for everyone involved, including the people who keep having to make new trivia questions, possibly about stuff that only goes on during their own timezone.
Instance owners kicking people and votekicks have both worked for years. In this particular event it might not work as well without some extra tooling, because everyone is segregated into different rooms. That's why for this specific event we need extra tooling or extra measures, whether that's a keypad with a code or an instance owner with the ability to more freely interrogate people.
Trivia questions aren't the way to go. Too many issues in such a large community.

I can only speak for EU, but we don't have too many randos. The ones we do get are dealt with pretty quickly, even if some of the more fringe members will whine and complain about "their friend being kicked".
When I visit NA I sometimes see a rando, but they're gone pretty quick depending on who's hosting the instance. The real issue is events because of how many people they attract, at that point you just need an instance owner who's on top of their game.

Seems to work out pretty well most of the time. The real issue is the cultural problem where people just don't care enough about votekicks and see it as an annoyance to dismiss by voting "no" on. As a result the only real barrier we have is instance owners. And if they're slacking it's RIP.
It's been a bit worse lately because votekicks broke with the groups update, that's really the core of the issue.

Even if you don't see it as a problem, it is because of the social nature of vrc.
Melty from a person will create a chain reaction of negativity throughout the instance and since many people know each other.
Fundamental problem is obviously the fag who brings the rando but good luck on kicking someone who isn't a "rando".
Anonymous No.416285849

Also a lot of people don't seem to recognize that randos are much like an infection. You might say "one rando is not a big deal", but they will often get their own rando friends joining on them, and then the transmission vector just gets bigger and bigger as there are more people for randos to join on. And then there's too many for you to have a votekick majority.
You have to be proactive in stamping it out. And if you do kick a rando... sometimes it pays off to hang out around spawn and kick their friends that they may have dragged in behind them. New Years' dragged in a basically 2-hour long chain reaction of randos, until we eventually stamped them out and finally reached the hardcap with just vrg folks, preventing more randos from joining.
So the next time someone like thicc grey wolf joins, don't spend too long laughing at them and consider just kicking on sight instead.
>>416285320
No one said anything about powergrabbing, but with the way votekicks work right now and with not enough people willing to vote yes before it's too late, you need an instance owner. Can be just about anyone. Doesn't mean i LIKE that we have to do that, but we have to do that.
Groups and keypad codes are both cancerous though, especially groups. Fuck that shit.

But it's clear that some people just want to pile on gatekeeping for the sake of gatekeeping, and not actually to keep randos out or to preserve the health of their community.

NTA but there are a few issues with aggressive gatekeeping.
One is that the person doing the gatekeeping is the one that gets to enforce their idea of what a rando is.
Another is that it discourages legitimate newfriends from the thread from showing up to stuff, some people are too shy to want to subject themselves to really stringent gatekeeping and interrogation.

It's funny that dance hours were gatekept when dances today are STILL a major influx of randos and for vrg-adjacent wannabe DJ's to try and gather more clout. That is then excused with "it's not a vrg event even though I invited my entire vrg friends list, stop trying to play jannie in my instance reeee".
I don't mind the change of heart but it feels disingenuous. Besides, a dance event is like the ONE event where an instance owner can sweep up randos like nobody's business without the need for a code.

You guys really fundamentally misunderstand the issue. The actual reason behind the rando infestation is really the same issue that plagues the community in a number of other aspects as well.

As yourself: what is the biggest vector for randos? How are they getting in?
They're not just randomly joining in from wherever, are they? They're joining off of their friends from vrg-adjacent groups. These people are members of the community who really no longer care to gatekeep.
I think that most people are at least somewhat aware of this. This seems to be where most of you stop thinking though, and you don't stop to ask yourself why people feel this way. You get mad, yell at the people in question, call them discord trannies etc, but really never make an effort to understand why people feel this way. It's an interaction I've observed many times.
So why do people feel this way?
It's because of the excessive negativity and hostility that you see in this community. Usually you'll see one of the aggressive rando police get in the face of someone who is less passionate about it for hanging out with his friends, and the person basically just goes "you know what, fuck you and fuck vrg, I'm going to do my own thing" and they stop making any efforts at gatekeeping.

People here are autistic and abrasive, even for 4chan. If you want to fix the rando problem and a number of other problems, you've got to reduce the level of hostility that's intertwined in the conversation. Right now neither side is listening to what the other side is saying.

Lol no, fuck off. Gatekeeping has worked for years.
It's 4chan, get the slightest bit of a spine and a tiny first-time interrogation won't bother you. The biggest pushback I get from kicking randos is always from people who have massive thread melties or people who only considered this place a stepping stool for themselves. Your suggestion is to capitulate to randos, who are often quest users, underaged, furries, or report-happy trannies who will get you banned for saying bad words.
They are a liability in so many ways, and they must be kept out. Right now, the best solution to that is trying to see if someone browses 4chan and kicking them if they don't.

Anonymous No.416292249
>>416291810
This is only the case if you generalize the issue so much that it loses all nuance. We don't want to keep everyone out, we only want to keep the people out who refuse to acclimatize and integrate themselves into the community.
People who actually go through the right channels and understand the culture without making a fuss and having melties are welcome.

A rule as old as time has always been accurate for 4chan, and that is that when in rome, do as the romans do.

I mostly interact with people here in the thread and in VRchat most of the people I interact with can casually relate with the things that have been posted and discussed in the thread.

Who are you talking about then?
Anonymous No.416292535
>>416292179
Yes, they get in because people have friends in other communities. Then they don't get noticed or don't get kicked in time, and then people join on that one rando. And then more join on them, and so forth.
The reasons why people have friends in other communities varies. IRL friends, friends from before /vrg/, drunkenly accepted requests, someone who seemed nice enough in a public world, befriending people in communities centered around pieces of media (like the old Persona or Touhou communities), the list goes on.
But does it matter? If they don't use 4chan, they don't belong. Randos joining happens. No one is going to hate me for it when a friend from years ago suddenly logs back into VRChat and joins on me.
There is no problem here, as long as we keep the randos out.

i don't know how how correct this is, from my perspective Ryder or someone from his group is hosting the biggest meetup. I'm looking back in my VRCX logs and the last big NA instance I was in was made by Ryder. the last one before that was new years. before that was ALSO ryder.
But I can't speak for what happens very late into the night at like 3AM EST because I'm offline by that time.
It's perfectly fine if you want to make a non gatekept instance and hang out with all the questies and TDA's and fatfurs, but don't bitch about me kicking randos from mine.

They're not the only ones, I witnessed some rando cleansings last weekend by british D. Randos tend to not be a big problem if people bully them out.
I rarely see Ck or R hosting big weekend meetups though, the only time I can remember is last weekend because i complained the instance was hardcapped and no one else felt like dropping a portal.
>>416296693
i don't really care about who hosts meetups, the people who make the instances are almost always nice people, both EU and NA. i don't really get the impression any of them (except Ryder) are doing it for clout or for the sake of leaderfagging, we always only move instances because people are bored of the world or because there is no one to get the underaged and the randos out.

I havent really commented on this yet since I was asleep or working for a bit but Im glad that people are talking about killing randos. Event instances shouldnt be the only ones that are rando free. Every instance should be. And in regard to the more recent posts, as of late I do hang out in smaller instances sometimes because Id much rather be in a world with people I know for a fact use 4chan and the thread rather than a huge one thats half full of randos. I'm not an expert on how votekicks work as the system is weird and not very transparent.
But I think a specific percentage of the instance has to vote yes on it. A no-vote is basically the same as voting "no". Otherwise 3 people could quickly vote "yes" before anyone else can vote "no".
If you're unsure, just don't vote and the notification becomes invisible in about 2 minutes. or turn HUD off.

4. Todays map recommendation: Cyan TimeSpace Lab [JP․EN]By Wing_
I already used comparison to Portal before, but if last time it was more about atmosphere – here is a map that is almost literally First Portal game; very close visual, structure, puzzles with cubes/buttons/jumping platforms and so on, even sarcastic robotic voice to bully you between floors.
But there is a twist – it’s not “just a portal clone”, since your main puzzle weapon here is actually a pair of Gravity Gloves, same as in Half-life Alyx! And an incredible mechanics of Self-time rewind/Self-time stop like in Prince of Persia in later chambers.
This time I have a warning thou – this map gets progressively harder, if first few rooms you will probably make pretty fast, closer to the end you can spend a good 20 minutes on a single room because of how mechanics interact and complicate each other. Don’t worry about getting it in a single run however, since this map gives you a “save-code” after each room so you can come back to solving at any other time.
Best be played by solo or group of 1-10 people, but beware – everyone has different solving paste so some people can get lost behind.

Since we aren't psychic, leaderfags calmly asking a new person what boards they browse is basically necessary. If you can answer with a board then that even turns into a conversation topic in itself.
