I'd imagine you wouldn't really need finger tracking for that, because those actions are very contextual. If hand is on wheel position, you're holding the wheel, if it's on gear lever, you're holding gear lever, in every other scenario hand is just doing useless shit mid-air or getting out of the line of sight. If you'd really want to, you could try slapping a tracker on wrist, maybe even just one as left hand is welded to the wheel in RHD vehicles

I usually don't condone waitfagging but right now seems like a poor time to buy if you already have a headset. I'm waiting to see how good Quest 3 is before retiring my Rift S. Quest 2 is an upgrade but it won't feel as much like one if you don't have a strong desire for wireless or a need for standalone. Expectations are high that Quest 3 will bring a noticable improvement to wireless PCVR and if that comes in a smaller, lighter package than Quest 2 that only sweetens the deal.

If Valve or anyone else announces another headset in the meantime then all the more reason to wait.

I was on vacation for like two weeks. I came back and updated all my shit. Start a game up. It looks all fucked up and crashes after like 40 seconds of playing. FPS all over the place. I absolutely fucking despise VR you don't even understand. I literally want to die. Finished Alyx. It kinda sucked overall. Locomotion was ass, no sprint button as well. Had to teleport like a fag.
Encounters were fucking gay with bullet sponge combines and you're forced to play peekaboo like you're back on a xbox 360 TPS.
Weapons sucked, minigames sucked and were reused way too much. Map design and physics puzzle were fun and that's pretty much where it end.
I'm torn with the design decision of locking wep augment around finding resin. On one side it's interesting for the level designer to scatter the things everywhere but on the other you're being led on to check literally every corners of the maps. Ammo spread sucks dicks too. If you don't search shit you'll run out. Never an issue in HL2. Graphics good and runs at like 200fps at 4K on Ultra. Story is heh, ending is fun because muh nostalgia.
Overall, HL2VR is way more fun/10

Sounds like you completely missed the point of the game, this isn't a pew pew shooter, this is more of a survival horror game. Just relax and take your time. HL always was a mix of shooter, horror and puzzler, this time it's more into horror than anything which for HL is fair enough in my opinion, it went into horror many times before.

No they were absolutely awesome, every upgrade made them even more awesome. Every pistol scope made you use your pistol a little differently, some upgrades changed reloading mechanics which is fun, some added entirely new mechanics like grenade launcher which is also very fun. I wish they had more weapons like a revolver or a crossbow but what's here is good. The only real criticism I have is lack of melee and being forced into teleportation once in a while.

I played with smooth loco and smooth turns on the right stick, but your alyx moves extremely slowly and I couldn't find a sprint button. The jumping parts of the level design I understand was designer with teleport in mind because I don't think they figured out proper map traversal then, but when you see some mechanics where there's ladder climbing where you're supposed to climb with both hand, but it's also coded in a weird way where you just take the ladder and if releasing the grip button you get teleported all the way up. As for going down they didn't even bother letting you hold the ladder, you get a small loading circle and get teleported back down.
I think I'm more shocked they didn't patch the game since to take the good stuff from all the new games that came out since and improved on VR controls. You'd think Alyx is gonna be people's first VR game for a lot and personally I feel like it gives a mediocre impression.

Just finished Alyx as well, ironically enough. I disagree with a bunch of your points. The weapons were fine, though I wish the shotgun had more range then a melee weapon, and the decision to have augments locked behind resin was a good incentive to search through and look around the world which also meant that you'd find more then enough ammo to keep you going, though I wish they were more generous with the ammo for the shotgun once again since the fall off quickly meant that you'd need to spend two shells instead of one if you didn't wait until the zombies were almost touching you. Putting resin around the world incentivized you to keep hunting through out the game rather then waiting until you're low on ammo and realizing that there isn't much in each small room even if you open all the dressers and stuff. I do think that key upgrades like the grenade launcher should have been something you find rather then being an optional thing, since it was competing against a bunch of QoL stuff. He wasn't particularly scary, just annoying and tedious outside of the section where the lights cut out on you. I do agree that Alyx felt super slow during smooth movement to the point that I was using the jump function to teleport during some of the longer movement sections, but I assume that was an intentional thing to reduce motion sickness. The gravity gloves being used for item pickup was super slick and helped the game maintain a good flow instead of having to manually bend over to pick shit up. Overall, it was a fucking great experience for me, even it was intended as Baby's first VR game.

I took the approach in https://community.openmr.com/t/mod-ergonomically-perfect-facial-foam/35634 using "air dry foam clay" to directly mold it to the shape of your face while wearing the headset and looking through the lens, which I'm convinced is superior to 3d-scanning your face, trying to line it up to the sweet spot, doing all the molding, then finding out you got it slightly wrong. I've used my custom gasket for the past month now, and it's been pretty good. The main downside is that the while the foam is nice and soft to start, it dries quite hard, so you do have to add some padding against the forehead. In my case I just stuck little pieces of foam underneath the cloth, but you could glue them or get fancier like the guy in that forum post.

If I get motivated enough, I think the next step is to 3d scan the clay itself with photogrammetry, then 3d print it in TPU, which is nice and soft as is, even if not as soft as silicone.

If you're already on AM4, I'd go 5800x3D. It's still pretty good, and it's way cheaper to upgrade that than do a whole new build. 7800x3D would be the best for CPU performance if you don't mind blowing a bunch more money on a new build though.
As far as GPU goes, if a 3090 is that much refurbished, I'd either go 4080 or 4090 depending on how much you want to spend.

Despite it's bugs and jank, Tabor is pretty fun. And it has a solid gameplay loop.

Boneworks has all of the VR fun, dorky melee, freedom to grab a brick and kneecap your enemy only to watch him cripple while chasing you, but it has none of actual vidya value. Leveldesign is meh (though personally I very much loved atmosphere), enemy types are limited and there's not much to them, basically knockoff headcrab and three variations of average joe. At the same time, nothing's restricted, you can even bypass many puzzles using basic logic, let's say locking a lever in place with a nearby barrel instead of going for actual puzzle answer.

Alyx is the opposite, you can't do anything you want, but within limited freedom it gives you, everything is perfected according to all of the good old flat vidya rules. Levels are clearly designed with reason and intent, enemies have their own attack patterns, characteristics, little gimmicks, intentionally designed weak spots, gameplay is paced according to what devs thought will be optimal for the overall experience. Guns and items feel purposeful and diverse, exploring levels feels like someone was carefully planning position of every object during development.

I loved both. Alyx was impressive and fun, Boneworks gameplay freedom was to die for. Also, Boneworks atmosphere really hits me right, especially paired with the game OST.

Alyx is very well designed. It's as good of an FPS as HL1-2, every encounter is masterfully crafted, every enemy has cool behaviors that change up your tactics. Boneworks has 1 enemy type that actually presents a threat and all it does is it rolls around, then points and shoots at you.

On the other hand, GPU bottleneck is much less painful, it's just more-or-less consistent lower framerate for a given scene rather than random slowdowns/stutters, plus you can reduce GPU-related issues by dropping resolution. Choosing between too much CPU and too much GPU, I'd definitely go for CPU. Doesn't matter though, I absolutely agree with the conclusion, 5800x3d would still be enough and going higher than 3060ti is definitely the way to go for VR.

I'm not aware of any large, non-recurring events that aren't based around vrchat that could be added. If there were, I'm sure they would be. Pavlov events have been added in the past.
As for smaller recurring events, I do think some listing of them would be nice. I may start working on that. It would cover weekly events for vrchat and other games.

good ones cost literally millions and small ones are trash, i read a post from a small dev who had semi successful game, i think he made like 50k from it and tried hiring marketing firm to market his game to sell more copies and the firm was totally useless like suggesting him totally useless mismatched youtubers to try getting them into promoting his game etc
PR firm only makes sense if you can drop several millions on it
