Replaced isn't really the right word as they're two different genres but basically those that sunk shitloads of hours into ItR are now doing the same for Tabor. You're right too, ItR definitely benefits from the feeling of loneliness and isolation. Multiplayer would completely ruin it. They're currently working on a sequel to ItR though so it's probably not going to get any more updates. Maybe one more I think is planned but it'll probably just be the last couple of bugs that need fixing.

I really like tabor and now is the best time to play. It's before they add too much complexity in the game that fucks with the core gameplay loop, it's before everyone has figured out the meta, it's also before the devs got a chance to grind the economy into dust to make sure you paypig for trader levels. Plus there's a few... techniques... you can use to level faster.

I wouldn't disregard it just because of that straight away, especially if the new game won't just be intended as a replacement and upgraded version of the same game the first one was.
Tabor is buggy as shit as well yet nobody ever mentions that. Most of the VR games are buggy messes, but people just keep hopes up that it'll get fixed if it still seems to be in a fresh enough lifecycle.

Update for Vive Pro 2 and Elite chads (the ones which use Vive Console).

HTC implemented a lot of cool OpenXR extentions:
scene understanding, face tracking, eye tracking, finger tracking.

Pavlov tries to use ALL OF THEM, tries to initialise ALL OF THEM every frame. On Pro 2 it manages to get camera based fingertracking and get's confused, it looses Index controllers fingertracking, grip and button inputs, starts treating them like an oculus touch.

But that's not all, it tries to initialise all rest of the things every frame, pounding CPU and causing giant lag. Solution? "Disable" the OpenXR features in steam or by renaming picrelated folders in your Vive Console install:

Companies briefly experimented with porting games to VR and making VR games back in 2017-2018
Most of them were shit ports or shitty "side-experiences" like Doom VFR and Sniper Elite VR and sold like shit as a result so they stopped doing that
Hitman 3 tried again recently and looked so incredibly promising from the trailers and pre-release footage, but it was so terribly done that the new randomly generated mode isn't even available in VR.
The problem is that big companies with the budget don't know or don't care about how to make good VR games. And the people that DO know are stuck making barebones early access tech demos due to lack of time, lack of budget and possibly lack of skill.
Then there's the occasional gem like Boneworks which is mechanically sound but just doesn't have enough content. There is goyslop like Pavlov and Onward which gets Quest-ified and also gets totally ruined in the process, getting worse with each update.
Modern VR games aren't "bad", they're just fucking nonexistent.

If I wasn't wagecaging every day I would probably have time to make a somewhat engaging and replayable roguelite VR shooter but as it stands I'm too tired after work and I don't want to stop talking to my friends.

They need to build teams specifically for VR and let them work their way up, not dump projects onto their B/C team that are far outside of their comfort zone before giving up on VR.

Medal of Honor VR devs didn't want to make a VR game and prior to release knew they wouldn't be making any more.
Hitman VR was a side project for a developer that would not have had the resources to spare for VR work if Sony hadn't paid for it. The work they did on improving the VR for PC was not significant.
Sniper Elite VR was made by a developer with no previous VR experience and no first person shooter experience either. On the plus side they might not have given up VR yet.

Compare that to say Asgard's Wrath, highish budget but not flawed mechanically because the developers had prior VR experience.
Third party? Stormland was mechanically competent too because the VR team at Insomniac had smaller games under their belt first. I don't know if the VR team is still around after Sony bought the company but I've seen rumor that they're porting Stormland to PSVR2 and hoping for a sequel.

You'll be able to set your mods to a version that works with the older unity package.
