I hate the retards in this thread who baited me with false hope, and I hate myself for listening to people whose only source is an inbred youtuber. I would have replaced my barely functional Vive way earlier if it weren't for Deckard delusions. It's no different than the niggers who think that Episode 3 is going to come out any day.

At least the Quest 3 is functionally a Deckard with its large FOV and and powerful standalone.

I'm pretty certain that the devs behind alyx got burned out of VR right after they shipped it. They'd have to get new teams truly passionate about the tech to make good games for it and so far it seems to be mostly zoomers in their mid 20s so not really fit for a job at valve anymore.

Isn't this extremely based though? Doesn't this imply that I can very comfortably and easily just use steamvr to watch anime and shit? I don't have to use bigscreen or a VRC room or the trashass desktop view whatever the fuck other options there were (excluding EmuVR if that still exists even). I can get a comfy steamvr environment and just chill and watch anime in there. Or play HOMM3. Imagine playing HOMM3 but on flat in VR.

emuVR still exists, last update was dec 2022 though and the dev has been thoroughly disillusioned by retards who can't read a basic set of instructions. The old ass retroarch version they use is also showing it's age as things like retroachievements no longer works (they've updated their API), some newer controllers have to be manually set up as they aren't detected and profiled by either emuvr or retroarch, and more.
This is just a replacement for theater mode that steamVR already had. It's the same thing.

Honestly it was made worse by tiktok, earlier this year for some reason it went viral but it was FILLED with quest kiddies who were shitting on it not having a quest version (Even though it works fantastically through air link), so much that he locked down the discord and eventually left it on his main account and only shows up to post occasional updates/info.

Thankfully the community is actually pretty lively, I was thinking about hosting a community night where we watch kaiji or classic DBZ or something and play some super bomberman for /vrg/, if nothing else it's great how you can just host vids on an external server and since everything ELSE is standardized with the client all I'd need to do is make sure everyone gets the right ROMs.

It is theoretically possible but I'm not anywhere near skilled enough for it. The issue is emuVR functions as a frontend. That's not an issue, there are frontends that work expertly on android. But, the way quest handles custom install APKs doesn't allow for them to function effectively. Trying to use, say, daijisho, or launchbox on quest just results in failures to takeover and it won't properly scan, it won't properly launch titles from inside, anything. I assume the locked down nature of the quest android environment is probably the culprit. Honestly even just using regular APKs can be a bit of a pain.
For instance, I have retroarch and yuzu set up on my quest 3. Surprisingly, yuzu works okay besides graphical artifacting (just an issue of the drivers sadly, won't be fixed until they make a new mesa set with quest support for the 740 it uses)
Any time you try to resize retroarch, it crashes. You have to minimize and re-open the app for it to save, but it doesn't save the resized app between play sessions, so you have to manually set it every fucking time you want to play. You can't run the app through oculus tv like you could on the 2 either to automatically launch it in landscape either, so it's fucking vertical and just awful.
BUT, the games play fine. Perfect even.
The issue is just how quest locks things down, they're pushing even harder against sideloaded stuff, you have to use a separate interface to even intermingle your stock/official apps with sideloaded ones now. Can't put sideloaded apps on the quick access app tray, can't do any of that, it's really shitty and annoying, and that's just as a user, can't imagine trying to dev homebrew for it.
I will say ppsspp vr is fucking awesome though.

There are a few simple rules to follow. Do not buy chinese shit. Do not buy facebook or apple shit. Do not buy a headset that's not steamvr native (WMR is the devil). I'm sorry that your options have been diminished to shit like the Idex (goated, but old technology), Varjo, which isn't THAT great and is on the expensive side, and the bigshit begone, which is overpriced and has it's own issues. You could take an L on one of these 3. You could wait for somnium VR (allegedly soon), although that could be a massive meme scam like the Decagear if anyone even remembers that. Or you could wait for the Index 2.

I've never even heard of that, but doesn't somnium have pre-orders already and a whole event set up for December where they promised they'll show a finished product? I'm obviously wary because of their background and their gayass buttcoin VRC clone, but you can't make that many promises and have pre-orders and an actual real life event set up and not deliver AT LEAST something, even if it ends up being not good. Decagear didn't get anywhere near that as far as I remember at least.

>>453184258
>a used Index

I would 100%, except they don't exist. An abundance of Vives (not pro 2) though. I almost got one because of how cheap they are, just for the base stations alone, even though they come with the alleged garbage Vive controllers.

>>453184607
I've only used the G2, but I have literally 147 IQ and have done my research so I'm able to give you proper advice. Not even trolling. Unfortunately the advice I'm giving you is to take an L or wait, because that's just how it is right now. With the Varjo, as well as the bigscreen, you'd need base stations and controllers, on top of the regular cost. This could be a bad investment, in case this type of tracking technology becomes obsolete anytime soon, but I can't predict the future. In terms of what's the "best", I'd go with the Varjo, even though it has shit fov, and some alleged chromatic aberration issues. Other than that it's not offered by a gay company and their software is great. The bigshit beyond is overpriced and you'll have to wait 3 months to get it literally. What's the fucking point? The singular selling point it has is the form factor, which you shouldn't care for, because you're not a softass girly faggot. It's not like I'm offering you an uncomfortable brick of a headset like a Pimax.

If I was you I'd just wait, or get a second hand Index kit (if the price is right, and you wont need a 4090 for it necessarily), or MAYBE get a Varjo with the Index controllers and base stations.

Compared to the CV1 it's a huge boost in clarity and resolution, although the black levels are poor. I don't know if the CV1 used oled screens, but the black levels were much better. I play a lot of cockpit sims, wireless works surprisingly well but cable is still better. I looked into the beyond, but I really didn't want to wait and I think the Q3 will be enough until a better one shows up or the beyond people make a version with a universal facial interface and adjustable IPD so they can amp up production.

Best buck for the price and good lenses + resolution -> Pico 4. If you really want the quest exclusives then Quest 3.

Welcome back racer!
EU Assetto Corsa: European Racing club, season 9!
Race 60.

19:00 UTC 20:00 CET, Monday 13th of November.

All American day. We are going to Paramount Ranch to drive the most overpowered car - Shelby Cobra.

1 hour practice
12 minutes qualifiers
10 lap race

After that - quintessential american past time: going at max speed on an oval.

Assetto - can be played with wheel, controller, or steam-vr-wheel addon, it doesn't matter, we will all have fun driving together. If you just bought Asseto - grab Assetto Corsa Content Manager - a better launcher and mod manager: https://assettocorsa.club/content-manager.html To install mods: just drag and drop zip files from mega onto the Content Manager windows and click on the hamburger menu on top right. Highly recommend installing stable custom shader patch and 7-zip plugin in Content manager.

For communication we'll use mumble at voice.vrg.party port 64738, as it doesn't need any registrations or logins.

You already have a quest 2, you don't know what you want, how are we supposed to help you faggot
get a quest 3 if you like the meta store and want to keep your purchases (could also score a couple hundred bucks easy if you hawk your q2 on craigslist or something) and also desire standalone functionality.
Get an index if you want full on PCVR and the best overall experience we have right now.
If you're not in a rush because you already have a device, keep waiting for the index 2, homo.

I think both index and quest 3 are solid buys.
I can tell you that like 90% of us use index and there's a reason for that. I have a few friends with quest 3 that have said good things about it.
Bigscreen also seems like a good headset, I've only heard good things about it.

If you want to do vrchat and full body, I'd suggest index.

I'm thinking about getting a Bigscreen Beyond as an upgrade from my Index, but it doesn't even seem worth considering unless you already have base stations and controllers.

Welp I just gifted my quest pro to my brother and went back to my quest 2
Two main reasons:
-back battery too uncomfortable laying down or against the wall, better lenses and colors are not quite enough for me to give up the quest 2 stock strap
-open design takes away too much from the immersion. This one is crazy, seems VERY cool at first, but I grew tired of VR and going back to my quest 2 made me “woah” over the immersion and enjoy VR again
I know I’m in the minority here, just wanted to share my experience so you know people like me exist. Stock elastic headband strap best strap, closed facial best facial.
I guess I should bite the bullet and buy the quest 3 since they kept the strap and closed design.

We don't really have a "new years" event. We use the VRchat created map every year and if we contribute at least it'll feel like we actually have a new years event map in a weird round about way.

The closest we have to a new year's event would be our /vrg/-vault that happens on January every 2 years.

The weight painting on your breasts is different from the weight painting on your clothes. Weight painting is what determines how much a given part of the mesh moves when a particular bone is moved, in this case your breast bones. Since the weighting on your skin mesh is not the same as the weighting on your clothes mesh, they will move different amounts when the breast bone moves, which will cause them to clip through each other.

It's not that they treat them like shit, it's that the ecosystem doesn't support titles post-release. You get your meta funding, you meet their requests for the title, and that's it, they stop answering your emails, they stop answering your requests for help, and anything else you may send their way.

t. applab graduate. I did get reached out to when the quest 3 was announced and they asked if I'd like a dev kit to make quest 3 updates for my title. I said sure, they said there would be a category for quest 3 enhanced titles, and to my knowledge it exists but they deliberately omitted my game from it, lmao.

New to VR, I got an index from some conveniently price-pumped CSGO items after the switch to 2.

I'm loving it so far, and most of the setup has been a breeze, and I'm liking fucking around with games.
BUT. I'm having a bit of an issue. Everything seems to... wiggle, at distance. And up close (like VERY close) it gets blurry, almost illegible. Like, say, H3. I have an ammo spawner set up, but if I'm not looking at it like dead-on, the text on it is all wiggly, and if I get very close, the text is just super fuzzy like I'm squinting or something.

Is this normal? I'm not quite sure how to phrase it for a google search. I don't wear glasses, maybe I just need glasses, or maybe I'm just not wearing the headpiece right, I don't quite know.

If you mean super close, that's could be because VR headsets have a fixed focal length.

Can be a little fuzzy when you're outside of the sweet spot, but you shouldn't have to be dead-on, Index sweet spot isn't that small.

Essentially, imagine a heat mirage (you know the wavy shit in the desert you would see in cartoons), even when I'm standing still and not moving, all the ammo panels past like a "meter" away from me look wiggly and warbly and wavy.

That GPU should be better than what I have. How fast is the CPU and how much RAM though? To my understanding, GPU does matter, yeah, but Assetto is more CPU bound. Upgrading from a 1GB eight year old graphics card to an 8GB card helped some, but upgrading the CPU had a bigger impact for me and allowed me to run more cars - this was around 2019 though and CSP has optimized the game a lot more for both so I'm not sure how much of a difference it would be for someone new to it. Anyway, look at the recommended specs for Assetto. This game is like a decade old now. If you were using a desktop computer, I'd say you most likely would not have any issue, but a lot of laptops still have gimped CPUs and barely acceptable RAM (8GB) I guess, IDK. I don't fuck with them but had two friends who were shopping for laptops last year. Just give it a shot with what you have first and see how it goes, hope your craptop doesn't run hot... know in advance you most likely won't be able to have high resolution shadows and reflections, but most VR games have shit visuals anyway so you're probably used to it.

This is lame. What keeps me coming back to games that aren't multiplayer is mods. It's funny as the Bonelab devs pulled the same bait and switch with their modding SDK too. At least the Vertigo 2 devs followed through with their level editor.

Bonelabs promised it after the success of Boneworks. ITR would be Boneworks, and I'm willing to believe that the game is a massive pile of spaghetti and jank given how they had to redo everything for 2.0 just about, so I can understand them realizing that making a functional modkit was going to take as much time as just making good progress on ITR2 and getting it ready for mods out of the gate.

I think it may be related to quest+pcvr parity in modding for both examples. Like i'm pretty sure internally ItR PCVR modding SDK was finished, but they had trouble to make it work on Android build of the game. And instead of just releasing SDK for PCVR-only, they just cucked both.
Doesn't helps that it makes them easier to sell sequel, and VR fanbase full of simps

The announcement of a sequel was a bit of a rug pull, I think. Not too long before that they were talking about how there was still a lot they intended to add to the existing game. They never fixed the loot balance: it's just a case of picking up the handful of valuable items, selling them, and then buying whatever you need. Whatever you can find to use in the radius is worse than what you can already buy at that point. Things like flashlights and paper never run out so they're just junk in the loot table because you only ever need one. It's distinctly unfinished.

I can live with it if ItR2 launches in a more advanced state than ItR, but if they expect everyone to support years of early access development to get it back to the level at which ItR1 was abandoned then I won't support it.

If you could also try the h264+ mode of Virtual Desktop if you have it and see what differences you have.

ItR2 is going to 100% be made with Quest in mind which is the sad part. ItR1 at least was a PC exclusive for most of its life, and I am not too optimistic about the sequel as a result. I like open world games with big maps and lots to explore which just won't happen with the game becoming Quest centric.

standalone is ruining vr
Anonymous No.453304587 Replies: >>453310368
The real reason that standalone is ruining VR is not the existence of standalone but the artificial demand created by Meta burning insane amounts of money.
The Quest 2 was sold at a loss to begin with, but more importantly is the buying of any independent studio they can get their hands on. These bought studios don't even have to make Quest games that sell, just not release good content for PCVR. There's a reason most PCVR development is as if VR is still in its grass roots development phase, because it effectively is by Meta buying up studios and any other large players (Sony) only contributing to their own walled garden.
There's not much we can do about this engineered effort to atrophy PCVR other than support manufacturers and studios producing hardware and games for the ecosystem and avoid to not give Meta any money.
There is also hope that the general tech decline that has been happening will weaken their position going forward.

You can already tell where this is going. So I'm chilling with these folks (one of them of which is a woman... A very deep voiced woman...) And one of them had full vr tracking. So we're all having a blast talking and chilling, venting a little. Then suddenly the women told me to look at what group she was in so I looked and it said certified mommy. And then as soon as I told them about not really having a mom I was swarmed by 2 of them and it made me rethink my entire existence... The things that were said and that had happened were unspeakable... But for some reason I fucking liked it in a way... I am now whimpering in my bed scared and confused.

Just don't worry about it. Just buy the headset that you like most at face value. Ultimately alot of the autists here have their own preferences and biases that won't necessarily allign with your own. Go with what you like and use that as a jumping point to see what you prefer/dislike about a headset.

Everything on Gem server has no falloff both before and after the config update. They do 1 extra damage per pellet now, which reduces the shots to kill from 14 to 13. They also do 8 damage against armour instead of literally 1 but any weapon that didn't have 100% penetration also has the same type of buff which significantly improves them against partially damaged targets.

Yeah the new/old gem armor system is much better for consistent damage reduction. It reduces non-rifle damage up to half instead of vanilla where it's as much as 90%, in exchange it's much less likely to get fully shredded.
It was painful to get 5 shots on someone and see them still have 90% HP.

Anonymous No.453348836

In vanilla it reduces damage by anything between 0 and 90% until it is destroyed. It's terrible because it means a lot of damage from some weapons effectively just gets discarded entirely while other weapons aren't affected by it at all. Really sucks when you shoot someone multiple times without their HP bar going down at all because your weapon's damage output is non-linear.

Youtubers/tiktokers who can monetize the novelty (or rather, idea of the novelty). I've seen people go "ooh that seems neat" but when they realize only like 5 games total have support for them at all without mods, and 3 of those 5 have support only for one specific brand (bhaptic). Having to mod in support for your fucking product is not a strong use case, especially when the only other one they have is a tech demo they made.

The interface is actually something that could get some traction, it's reasonably priced, and pretty much every game I've played in VR has rubble or stones or even just rain fall on you at SOME point.

I bought it a few years back and had lots of fun with it. the game is fully vr. like the rest of the franchise, its an on rails shooter with the gimmick of shooting girls to make them cum. I think they scaled everything pretty well too.

something I haven't really seen in any other vr game is that the girls can shove you to the ground. it actually makes it pretty scary and thrilling. its definitely worth a buy.

Except color depth. And video quality when running PCVR games. And dealing with the battery, a mic that is still hit or miss, worse tracking, no straightforward native fullbody solution.... and after all these years it still doesn't come with eye tracking either so I see no urgent need to """upgrade"""".
Their point still stands, there are no straight upgrades to the Index, you are always trading it off with some other significant downside.
Almost every one of these downsides is forgivable with the other upsides that the Quest 3 has (like the lenses). But I will never be a streamingcuck. I will never accept looking at JPEG artifacts in my screen. I will never accept a reduced color depth. I will never accept the increased latency, or the increased CPU/GPU load required to encode the video.

I will settle for a lot of things, but I will NEVER accept lossy video streaming as an acceptable way to deliver pixels to my display. Under any circumstance.

Other than the fov, there's tracking coverage/quality, audio, microphone, comfort, no added encoding overhead or latency when used with a PC, slightly higher refresh rate.
Easier to use with FBT too, and the finger tracking is nice to have I guess.
Index QC issues have been worked out for a while, I'd be more worried about having issues with an early Quest 3.

the only thing you need is a head strap, battery if you want a countermeasure/cant get enough charge, and maybe interface, really the only problem with the interface is that it barely has friction which might be a good or bad thing depending on what you prefer, as for the audio of mic and headphones theyre fine, good audio is cool to have but good audio isnt nearly as important as good visuals
>pro controllers
theres no reason to get the pro controllers, "infinite tracking volume" is a meme when inside out works completely fine especially with the quest 3's volume, hell, if the tracking were better on something like the reverb g2 even the tracking volume on that would be fine compared to the index, when was the last time you had to aim your hand behind your back precisely or aim it up precisely while also not looking up?
>I don't want any extra latency in anything else though.

Looking at bhaptics, both they and vrchat themselves say it works, and the pricing looks downright good compared to what cryptids are already dumping on 11 point tracking, face tracking, etc. purely for vrchat and nothing else

Does this then mean that the compatibility, though technically there, is garbage?

Yes. The issue is compatibility. It's been hacked into a few titles, but mostly through mods. Skyrim is probably the only title I really think truly elevates the use of the vest (and gloves). You can coordinate the various gestures with the points on the vest with some work, and set things like drinking potions to hit the points on the interface. You can have shouts impact the center of your chest when casted (really is kind of cool when you set up voice-to-shout), all sorts of stuff.
But still not worth the cost. I guess if you really want it, sure, but I think eventually these things will sink in price, either from newer versions dropping (already happened once) or just complete death of the product.

It just means that you have to manually set up contacts to send to those haptics and the average VRC user views Unity as some terrible demon that will crash their computer upon downloading it. It performs significantly better in standalone programs, better than the pro even.
But frankly most titles indev (even asgards wrath 2 which is the big killer app this christmas for them) are still focused on quest 2 compatibility as a baseline, and just upping settings for 3.
So, if you want it, it'd be more for the overall improvements. But it isn't worth the cost to entry.
Or if you emulate. It's got super, SUPER smooth and efficient wii and ps2 emulation, and moderate switch emu via yuzu. I can play RDR at around 30fps, I can play wonder at steady 30FPS, I can play most 2D switch games (including star ocean 2r) full speed 0 issue. It's really cool, but I wouldn't say it's worth buying a 3 when you own a 2 for.

Anonymous No.453393256

It's really shitty, but I don't think it should be causing motion sickness. It could be that it's simply not sat on your head properly and it's tilted in a direction. I had that issue as I've got a fucking huge noggin, but I was able to adjust the straps to their full looseness, and though it's now pressing quite firmly on my cheekbones it's not tilted anymore.
But yeah you pretty much need another strap, it seems wholly like they designed it to be that shit.
I will say don't forget about the front velcro strap that keeps it snug against your face, that can be too loose by default.

I still think the best solution is a yellow status option that shows where you are but still needs to request if you want to go in unless someone else of your friends is in the same instance as green/blue

An existence of a yellow status will move a lot of people out of orange though. More options is just better for everyone
Why add them on your friends list if you want to avoid them that hard? Yellow status is still best. Yellow gang yellow gang we'll make it happen one day

If it's convenient for you to see others that are green then won't it be nice to reciprocate to also show yourself in green? It's only fair and is an equivalent exchange of energies. As of right now orange has the upper ground always, there is no balancing fairness in the dynamic

Yellow solves the issue of you don’t want to handle someone right now since they can only join you if they have another friend there they’ll be joining on instead
Yellow is mainly for visibility so everyone knows something is happening somewhere
Benefits friends+ worlds most

Orange can exist but only if Yellow is a thing too.

It'll move a lot of people out of orange status at least.

The number one reason people say they go into orange status is:
"So people I know who won't mesh with the current social environment (ex. a /vrg/ instance) won't join"

If there is another person there that they can join on then it's fine isn't it since they obviously can and your filtering does not need to occur while benefiting everyone else to broadcast what you are currently potentially doing.

Which goes to the next point of if people know what map you are in they can have a better guess if they would want to request join on you. Instead of them requesting join on you then seeing it's for an activity they didn't want to join anyways and it'll all just be a waste of a join request. And if there is anyone there in the map who is a friend of them anyways then they can just immidiately join.

This aims to solve the issue of needing to send 25+ invite requests to orange people to even get one accept invite.
And the awkwardness that occurs when a friend of yours didn't accept your request invite but when you joined another friend of yours, the person who rejected your invite request is there... now with yellow status you could just join no issues as long as you have another friend there.

People who liked green before can just go blue, then lots of people always on orange go green.

The resolution will easily be 2x that of the Rift S but it comes with some caveat. Notably you're gonna waste 10-15% of your GPU power to do video encoding. The controller tracking should be the same.
If you plan to play wirelessly ( and you should ), you'll need to get virtual desktop on the pico store which cost about 20$ and a way to connect to wifi on your local network. The easiest is getting a wifi6 router (there should be around the 60$ available. Now the pico doesn't have an amazing antenna so there's no point in overspending in a wifi router unlike the quest 3.
For comfort you'll want a new facial interface, the AMVR one is goof for sub 40$, and if you need more battery life then you'll want battery banks. I don't advise you getting stuff like bobovr where you slap a battery to the back of the headset since it really puts a strain on your neck.
The built-in speakers are pretty good but if you want something with a jack 3.5mm you'll need to get a USB-C to jack adapter with power input with a DAC if using battery banks which should be around 10 bucks on aliexpress.
As for virtual desktop and its settings, you put it on godlike in the streaming software to get native resolution in the headset and then tune done your games to get playable framerates. That's all really. Quest 3 would be better overall but you could easily spend 800$ (with the accessories) on that one so that depends on how much cash you want to fork out.
