We made it through another year! Let's take a trip down memory lane together and remember all the >fun we had in 2023. To do this, (You) can share up to three whole pictures for each month of the year, so a whopping maximum of 36 pictures! They will be displayed in a wonderful virtual gallery, the grand opening will be on FEBRUARY 3.

The deadline for sending in your precious memories is JANUARY 31.

To make things easier, it would be great if the pictures are named or sorted accordingly (with the month/date in the filename), for your convenience there is even a .rar with a pre-organized folder structure available for download:

The files can be sent via
e-mail: vrgvault@gmail.com
Discord: vrgvault2023
or just reply to this post with a link to your uploaded image folder.

LAST BUT NOT LEAST keep in mind that even though the vast majority of photos and screenshots will probably be from within VRChat, you can also share remarkable images from other games - it just has to be /vrg/-related, i.e. games or explorations coordinated in the thread.

We're all looking forward to see the last year through your eyes - happiness or sorrows, laughter or tears, calm relaxation or screaming madness. See you there!

How does a dedicated VR router work?
afaik computers only use one ethernet port so how do I have my computer connected to internet and to the headset?

>>461561917
you mean like one of those dongles 'specifically' for VR?
or just a router? cuz your modem should plug into the router and give your pc internet that way

>>461561917
plug your external eth into the WAN port of your dedicated router, and then connect an ethernet cable from said router to your PC.

if i go into a public and just yell "i need friends" how long do they have to be on my friends list for me to level up?
can i delete them later or will i get demoted?

>>461562982
Just participate in events, you'll get there. Especially the FBF in February (17th is planned, afaik).
Alternatively, buy a month of VRCplus, you'll support the project and get an "XP" boost that should level you up a rank.

>>461563113

so i tried to stick with a community as much as i could in VRC, but i literally made like one person who i stay in touch with. all they care about feels really superficial and clique-ish

anyone know where i can look to find other communities/groups in VRC? i just randomly stumbled upon the one i talked about.

The map ive been talking about:

Combines a lot of japanese assetto corsa maps into one, even comes with AI traffic
Exploring it is such a blast, feels like a real roadtrip with its size, but beware that it is very perfomance and ram heavy

I got a few anons to test my little lighting thing real quick. Byself I was at that 140 fps. With 7 people in total dropped down to 70 honestly better than I thought.
I also got lightmap specular working on it hopefully silent gets back to me on what was up with that.

It’s not even about preference. Tda’s are put together using a free base model and ripped assets from other games like IMVU and second life then sold illegally. They’re essentially bootleg avatars made by Brazilians and you’re just getting ripped off buying one. Get a legit avatar instead

good driving bros. Only got this one pic with half of us.

There's nothing wrong with a little areola. The issue is going too far with the overall design.

I'm late, but I just tried the demo for The Burst. It's of course very unrefined, but I'd still buy the full game if it's priced modestly to match. The VR mechanics are just satisfying enough to enjoy it. Gunplay and enemy AI needs serious work, but the level design itself seems really promising with the swinging traversal and vehicle-driving.

>>461579042
how about friends with a racists?

>>461579042
Just play VR games bro. There's plenty of stuff to do to make your headset worth the money.

>>461582239
i've spent thousands of hours doing that already, i've gone through three sets of index controllers

>>461580469
I don't think it was super bad, but I honestly wasn't impressed despite a friend talking it up. Swinging felt kinda good, but not fluid enough to do mid combat and the vehicle control was mogged by HL2VR, which while a great port, shouldn't be an impossible standard either. Meanwhile, gunplay felt really bad to the point that slowly popping heads with the starting pistol was more effective and more reliable then using any of the guns I found, while the holstering system was incredibly unreliable and lacked enough/any feedback to the point I'd be trying to panic draw the shotgun revolver only to realize that I must have dropped it the last time I put it away.

Asking as someone who's never used a headset before, do you guys eventually lose your fear of heights in real life after simulating yourselves falling off a cliff or building many times?

>>461587264
No because I know I won't die in VR. But then I wouldn't say I have a phobia just a natural sence of self preservation.

>>461587264
No, because VR doesn't give you the wind gusts like real heights so you can instantly and easily tell them apart.

t. doesn't like heights

>>461587264
i still feel uncomfortable at heights in VR
but you kinda just gotta push through it because it's in every single game
i don't think it's making me less afraid of heights but I'm less afraid of it in VR now than when I started

>>461598809
I did, I played a bit of blade and sorcery to get my heartrate up before bed.

Not gonna lie the /vrg/ meetups on weekends in 2024 have been complete misses so far.
Not much happening, keep piling into the same map for hours, joining an instance that is groups+ started by a completely different non-vrg group for hours, etc.

Hopefully just a case of Fuck You It's January

>>461601421
Is this an NA problem?

>>461601656
I am NA, yes. I wouldn't know if it's an EU problem as well since that's not my timezone.
Just been noticing the last two weekends have been exceptionally lame with people hanging out in the same instance for the entire night and also tons of randos in the instance since the "main" instance that most /vrg/ people were at for the entire night was a groups+ of a non-vrg group.

>>461601925
There is no /vrg/ sanctioned group. Only /vrg/ people who sometimes have made groups.
The surest fire way to know really is if they use the thread and made the instance that's about it.
Map links or invites to join from the thread.

>>461602045
>There is no /vrg/ sanctioned group
Yes i'm aware, I'm saying that tonight most of /vrg/ was in the instance of a completely rando groups+ instance and was there for hours.

>>461602189
Dang. Well sounds like a cross pollination thing. Not enough NAs logging in to permanently lock an instance with /vrg/ only.

Can't be helped

>>461602348
>Not enough NAs logging in to permanently lock an instance with /vrg/ only.
Nah that's not it, there are still tons of NA that logged on tonight as they usually do on Fridays.
Just people getting way too friendly with rando instances I guess and no one wanting to move. There were a few leaderfag attempts to switch instances but I mostly just heard people stick their nose up and sound disgusted at the thought of leaving the instance whenever anyone dropped a portal. I went through a few of the portals and they'd get like maybe 10/70 people go through them and then die out 45 minutes later.
Idk what the deal is, makes me kinda concerned for the future of NA instances but hopefully it's just January things

>>461574570
>That photo
F

>>461602586
Asking people not no befriend non-vrg is cult behaviour. If they join our instances and they don't fit just kick them.
About the other issue, yeah, good luck convincing 40+ people to switch instances. That's why I prefer smaller groups.

Remember, minigolf at 1300 utc! (2.5 hours)

>>461603708
This IS a cult

>>461603830
Ok J

>>461603853
(and that's a good thing)

>>461603708
>Asking people not no befriend non-vrg is cult behaviour.
Never once did I say anything like that. Having friends outside of /vrg/ is fine. Most of /vrg/ deciding to stay for 5+ hours in a single instance started by and inhabited by a completely different group/community is a bit concerning though, especially when people actively go against switching instances to one started by /vrg/ people.

>>461604342
Who cares? Unless the "meetup" is advertised here on the thread I won't tell people to go to your clique's instance cappice? Not an event meetup not a problem nor a reason to ferry people there.

Just let people have fun.
If it's an event placed map link on the thread then you'll have a case. And even then not everyone wants to do a specific event. We can only really suggest them to go to the event.

>>461604498
>Who cares?
I do. I care about instances going to shit. I don't want every meetup to start being mixed with a completely different community. I don't want this becoming the new normal.

>>461604626
I see. Well anon only thing I can really see as a solution is to take it up on your own hand and place effort in it. Do you want more /vrg/ only started meets? Then I suggest making a weekend instance that is directly posted here on the thread.
Start small and grow it.

I believe in you

Are there any VR military shooters that are single-player focused or at least have a decent SP campaign? Everything I saw and tried so far seems to be multiplayer focused to a point of all SP stuff feeling like a complete afterthought and being shit.

Hi, friendly reminder that next ParaPara/Wotagei training session is today at 17:00CET/16:00UTC/11:00EDT/3h from now ( or just double check the time here: https://www.timeanddate.com/countdown/generic?p0=195&iso=20240113T17&year=2024&month=01&day=13&hour=17&min=0&sec=0&msg=ParaPara61) in VRC (Wotagei is 1h30 later at 18:30CET/17:30/UTC/12:30EDT/4h from now).
> Wait what is this?
This is a /vrg/ dancing group/club open to any anon. It is first and foremost a ParaPara (dance style for eurobeat) circle but is also open to other types of dancing, with the recent addition of Wotagei (dance style using lightsticks) as an activity.
The main goal is to actively learn those dance styles with eventual content made out of it, anyone is free to join no matter if they want to take it seriously or just as a fun thing. No issues with 3 pointers either!
More info here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1P-uVnC7m-oiuk6_d2quKzoCBsyeAXG5ww-48fMPVMLo/edit#heading=h.83e22ya6mivq
> What's planned this time for ParaPara?
Last time we learned an easy routine (STOP YOURSELF CONTROL by MARKO POLO) so we will quickly do it again. After that we will learn the routine for DAVE RODGER's old classic: DEJA VU (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ga-dEbm3_Pg)
> What's planned this time for Wotagei?
First session, like the test session we will go through some of the fundamental "wazas" (OAD, Nihai Ohai, Soiya and maybe Rosario if we have the time for it) after a brief presentation on what Wotagei is.

As usual, be it for ParaPara or Wotagei, newcomers are always welcome and we'll adapt the session depending on who joins.

Go to the install folder in your PC, grab all the PAK files and drop them inside /ioquake3quest/baseq3 on your Quest using Sidequest
Disable passthrough (can cause issues). Also it may crash the first time you launch it.
Use the launcher to change your nickname.

Good golfing gros!

What happened to the NA VRC instance last night?
I couldn't recognize half of the people there

>>461620110
It was one of those rando instances people were complaining about earlier. tl;dr people just hang out with their non vrg friends and a bunch of vrg people turn up, and it turns into a melting pot of people rather than a vrg instance. That's basically every week now. The solution starts at home; just don't go to those instances if you don't like it.

>>461612231
To expand on other anon - after you do the initial setup a basic autoexec.cfg will be created in your baseq3 folder, copy it to your PC, edit as needed and then copy back to HMD.
You don't have to use the companion launcher afterwards, can just run Q3A directly.

If I'm running my headset at 90hz, and I can't hit 90fps. Why can't the motion reprojection algorithm work with 60fps instead of dropping me to 45?
I don't have the option to set the refresh rate to 120hz and get 60fps with space warp and this fucking sucks ass.

ATTENTION ATTENTION
thank you for the attention

Seriously when are we getting more vr games that aren't tech demos or small indie projects?

>>461652489
When they get to PS2 levels of adoption and spending.

Would there be interest in a weekly NA chess meet since the EU one is at an inconvenient hour for NA fags? I was thinking perhaps 8pm eastern on Mondays, maybe 9pm if that's too early for westcoast fags. Hopefully that doesn't conflict with any other meets already. At least two different anons have already told me before that they'd be interested.

>>461588124
>and never joined ever again.
Why's that? I've only started hanging with these guys for maybe a few months now.

i wish there was a way of using VR for strength training rather than just flailing around without any weights for cardio

i guess if i had a couple resistance bands i could tie them to my controllers and something in front of me and then row in kayak VR

>>461652489
You really want AAA VR games like Medal of Honor?

GGs

>>461654895
I want games that aren't 2 hour "experiences" or phone minigames

>>461652489
It's not happening. VR devs are useless. Just play ports of flat games.

>>461652489
probably never, i took like a 3 year break from VR and basically nothing's changed

>>461655481
UEVR is the best thing to happen to VR in years because of this

>>461652489
>>461655171
have you looked at the absolute state of the video game industry?
if there are no good non-vr games how the fuck could there possibly be good vr games?

>>461654895
Why not neither. Cruelty Squad is a game made by a single Finnish shitposter in his spare time and has tons of large open ended levels, multiple endings, secrets including secret levels, weapons and cybernetic implants that you can play with. Thank god it has a decent VR mod, which was again made by a single guy in his spare time. You don't need a AAA budget to have a high effort game.

Meanwhile something like Blade & Sorcery has been in early access for seven years now, and only this year is it finally getting a 'rogue-lite' mode rather than an actual campaign. If only we could get Dark Messiah VR instead.

>>461655746
Totally agree. It gets even better to see mods like Mechwarrior 5's to build up on top of the injector for an even better VR experience.

>>461655065

I'm not much of a science guy or whatever but I read somewhere VR can never really be realistic because it's impossible to know like how hard you are moving the sticks or something so it's physically impossible to make combat with fists or sword realistic... anyone know anything about that?

>>461581349
dude howd you get assetto looking this fucking good holy shit
i think i know the map but whats the visual mod thing.
i love just cruising around but uninstalled assetto because i think i struggled to install any other visual/lighting mods and the one called realistic vision or whatever i used looked bland

>>461656405
>>461581349
nvm i dont think i even know what map that is, that looks better than any maps that i ever saw or at least rivals shutoko

>>461652489
Why haven't you tried looking?
Need a youtuber to hold your hand?

>>461656246
the real problem is the lack of physical feedback from objects, asides from rumble there's no way to really correct the player if you're waving a sword around outside of the physical bounds of the game space or overshooting a swing after hitting an enemy sword

>>461656246
>he thinks you control your hands with analog sticks in VR

>>461656804
Is it actually impossible or just not solved? I remember where I read it somewhere on Thrill of the Fight people were asking why a 100% thrown punch and a 10% thrown punch IRL were the exact same damage and the guy said it was impossible to know how much power you were giving or something like tht

>>461656760
there are less than 5 proper vr games

Looking to upgrade my rig for better VR performance, though I'll be waiting until the 40XX supers come out before I finish it since they're going to be nice upgrades. I know AMD cards are notorious for driver issues with VR, but does it matter between Intel vs AMD for my processor?

>>461657701
best option is AMD 7800x3d

>>461657214
I would recommend you actually look up how VR games are controlled because the problem would be extremely obvious if you knew and weren't mistakenly thinking its about moving analog sticks.

>>461657214
how would you physically stop a player from overextending a punch to prevent it from clipping through an enemy's model?

>>461656184
>couldn't play because retarded dock doesn't want to charge controller stuck in update loop
>cable takes forever to charge it
Thanks Zucc. With that said I received reports that latency went to shit so without further ado, Q3A server is moving to Frankfurt on Tuesday. IP will change obviously.

>>461657804
I dont' know I'm not a fucking scientist. Something in programming or in the controllers

>>461657804
Have someone stand next to the player and grab their arm whenever it would clip in game

>>461657895
It was fine for like one map and then there was ping spikes everywhere. Feels bad for K since he was at 100ping all the time.

>>461657938
>just make the controllers change weight and physically restrict the player's movement, programmer-kun, what are we even paying you for?!

>>461658228
just attach pullies to the controllers bro, that connect to electric motors on your back powered by a diesel generator in your room

haptic feedback gloves is the eventual future

>>461657214
Devs can track controller velocity but moving fast and moving fast with force behind it would appear the same. This could be improved with more tracking data and by comparing it against learned data from forceful punches to predict whether it's a powerful punch but such prediction methods are far from flawless.

>>461658116

bacta tanks with resistive-electrically-controlled fluids to simulate texture/resistance is the eventual future

>>461658585
I'm a genius. I just thought of this in three seconds. Could they tell how much the controller itself shakes? If it shakes a little there is little force and if it shakes a lot that means there is lot of force?

>>461652489
check the flat2vr discord, unironically
Because of the extreme cost in development, but the niche nature of VR, games are most likely going to be all flats modded to be VR

>>461659627
Thanks dood I'm reinstalling assetto just for this. I just had a crazy idea

What if american truck sim maps ported into assetto...
It's literally the entire west coast extending all the way to Oklahoma, scaled down 20:1 except in towns and cities which can be stilll pretty big or even life size
It's not that many straight roads like you'd imagine since they cut a lot of that out to make it more interesting too
I love exploring in ATS but the big trucks are getting tiresome

>>461660467
You can always use a car mod for ATS.

>>461659782
Noted, I'd be fine with Tuesdays at 8pm eastern!

>>461660771
Don't say tuesday or you're going to call "him"

>>461660645
True but I barely saw any regular car mods and they looked lame and I don't wanna fuck my game up with mods much since its an actual grind which I actually enjoy

>>461660963
Is there a conflicting meet on tuesdays? I know pypy is a thing but that's not until 10 afaik

>>461661525
I was just picking on the tuesday doggy. That meet isn't til way later though.

What am I in for bros? Are there any good mods yet?

>>461662203
Disappointment

>>461657754
Are VR games heavily CPU bounded to the point that it's worth it? I'm only driving an Index at the moment, so it seems like overkill compared to a CPU in the ~250 dollar range where I was looking between a 7600X and an i5-13600KF, but I also can't speak to if higher resolutions start making the CPU significantly more taxed since I imagine I'll be upgrading my headset before I revamp my desktop after this.

Are there any VR RPGs that are slower and aren't like shooter based? Is the Skyrim VR game good with mods?

>>461662203
It's not even worth pirating

>>461662512
It's still skyrim as its core and still has its flaws, but the mods and the proper IK, physical holster system, semi physics based melee combat, customizeable gestures to assign all your spells.
It's really fucking immersive. If you don't want to waste your team learning about modding then look up wabbajack and download the FUS modlist for Skyrim VR in there. It has all the VR gameplay mods and some basic makeover for the game while keeping the vanilla feel.

>>461662426
The x3d is what you want since 99% of vr games are unity or unreal engine

Bored so hosting this, come play! https://vrch.at/c2rh58vr

>>461662512
Skyrim is still probably the best VR RPG. What you might be even better off doing is playing Enderal in VR as the German autism world design and writing is better IMO.

>>461630976
Trigger to interact, grip to grab. This is standard in basically every vr game.

>>461662512
SkyrimVR with FUS, like the other anon suggested, is very fun inspite of being Skyrim. I'd dropped Skyrim like 3 times trying to play it flat over the past decade, but now I'm approaching over 100 hours in VR and still having a great time. There's also the Tahrovin pack for wabbajack that is a pretty solid VR modlist that also includes a bunch of the basic sexlabs shit and such if you like some eyecandy, though I will say that the implementation of trying to go through the animations in first person is jank as fuck but I do like the bikini armor and stuff as nice cheesecake.

>>461663080
I understand what it means, but if I'm not running into issues from running out of CPU power regardless, I don't see the reason to spend that much on a CPU which is why I was asking if higher resolution headsets start pushing the CPU hard enough for it to be relevant.

>>461659140
Fuck it, not worth prolonging the agony, server has been transfered to Frankfurt. Change your autoexec accordingly:
seta server1 "45.147.228.101:27960"

>>461664118
It's not even a resolution thing; it's a game engine thing. Personally any not-x3d cpu is a waste of money in 2024.

>>461665343
There's a comparison of PSVR, PSVR2, Quest2, and Quest3. From what I can tell PSVR2 is fairly on par with PCVR, so it makes for a decent comparison.
The floor in the first image makes the absence of shadows on the Quest3 painfully obvious, otherwise it just looks like it's got the contrast cranked up in these images.

That's it, virtually every UE game made with supported versions of the engine is some indie garbage, riddled with rootkit copy protection or not suitable for VR. Jokes on you for expecting games to be good.

EU Assetto Corsa: European Racing club, season 10!
Race 64.

19:00 UTC 20:00 CET, Monday 22nd of January 2024.

By unpopular demand we are going back to Finland, in the smallest MURICAN car in existence. But don't get deceived by it's size, it's a feisty beast.

1 hour practice (might be shortened)
12 minutes qualifiers
10 lap race

Then some relaxing driving in british countryside in High Force.

Assetto - can be played with wheel, controller, or steam-vr-wheel addon, it doesn't matter, we will all have fun driving together. If you just bought Asseto - grab Assetto Corsa Content Manager - a better launcher and mod manager: https://assettocorsa.club/content-manager.html To install mods: just drag and drop zip files from mega onto the Content Manager windows and click on the hamburger menu on top right. Highly recommend installing stable custom shader patch and 7-zip plugin in Content manager.

For communication we'll use mumble at voice.vrg.party port 64738, as it doesn't need any registrations or logins.

#JusticeForFoxFriend

>>461768860
Stability it's fine. No crashes.
Controls need a tune; swap spring and grip action on the left controller, at least.
Actually playing it: I've played it for a couple hours and it's a bit harder to pick things up and the grip sensitivity which I need to figure out how to adjust since I open doors accidentally sometimes. It has player networked IK which is great even if the IK is uh.. primitive.
Overall: It's fine but the controls could do with some tuning. I had fun.

>>461768925

good rough list, however I'd argue that you must likely can get a new 4070 Super for the same price of 600ish bucks, with it being better than the 3080 ti
For the 7900xtx it will be interesting how much of a difference it is to the 4070 ti super or the 4080 super as both are roughly in the same priceing segment. If the vram is the only plus side, it'll be a tough sale to jump ship for a 7900xtx while leaving all of the nvidia benefits behind

>seeing goofy ass avatars moving their hands towards your avatar (which you can stop by exiting the room, closing the app, taking off the headset, etc) is as real as being physically abused and having your holes torn up with no chance to escape
are these people being disingenuous on purpose or just mentally ill?

Pics are always welcome during explore! Be sure to do your best to take kino shots it’s fun

Alright friends, hopefully with my life cooling off a bit I'll be returning from the grave to start hosting NA Exploration bi-weekly again. I'll be aiming for Mondays at 9 EST. You know the deal, we map hop until I'm bored or it starts getting late. Come drink some beers, take some pictures, and we'll see what trouble we can get into. See you tomorrow.

Have fun you guys!

Bros, I have an animation toggle that does seem to work based on the debug menu in vrc however the toggle does nothing in terms of actually stopping the animation from triggering.

I've set up this same animation on two other avatars in the past and it works just fine but this particular one is a headswapped avatar so I'm wondering if that's the problem. I can provide more info if needed, I just want this to work.
