If you're the type that can make your own fun then Blade and Sorcery can be very satisfying. If you can't resist abusing the jank with easy cheese methods then you'll get bored quickly. Just moving forwards with your weapon pointed at the enemy is one of the most lethal tactics so you need to LARP in order to keep it interesting and stay immersed.

Swords of Gurrah is surprisingly good PvP but I've been waiting 2 years to play it with /vrg/ again and the public playerbase is dead while we wait for the Quest port to release. Physics plays no part in the combat so it's nothing like real melee combat but posturing, feints and stances are far more relevant against a human opponent.

How you run PCVR on your quest is to use Virtual Desktop (paid) or Steamlink (free) to stream the PCVR video to your headset. It primarily does this over Wifi so if you have a good wifi connection then this should work okay. Cable is a meme since it does the same shit but over the cable.

They use generic camera mount screws; anything you can attach a camera mount to will work. I've found that plasterboard props and a camera clamp mount work the best for being lazy. You just spend 30 seconds putting the pole up, clamp the camera attachment to it, then screw the lighthouse on and plug it in and you're done. You can then move it wherever.

I see people recommend the tripods and I'm like nah bruh extendable poles are where it's at. Tripods can be knocked over, take up floor space, and can't be wedged into a corner that well. These things extend and wedge themselves up between floor and ceiling so they're pretty solid if you put a few silicone grippy pads on the contact points. Not enough to poledance on by any means but they'll survive being bumped... if they ever do because you can put them somewhere out of the way.

Another thought is that if you have any solid furniture or curtain rails, a camera clamp mount will work there. Or hell, anything you can stick a 3M sticky pad to that'll work too. Camera mounts with 3M sticky pads stick pretty damn hard.

Honestly, the setup and calibration has significantly improved since launch but it’s very much play space dependent. 2x2 meters with clear visual landmarks and good lighting (at least 800 lumen) is the ideal. You can but most people just buy straps that have a little screw mount. There's EOZ straps, track straps, trackstrap+ with a little battery, chink straps (aliexpress)... there's loads. I recommend buying some cheap chinky straps first since they're so much cheaper. I bought mine 'temporarily' and I've been using them for over 4 years. I just re-sew on new velcro now and then to keep them functional.

it's not a drift, it's a slightly different bootstrap result. Every time a tracked lighthouse gets occluded it needs to re-find the lighthouses position, compare it with calibration stored positions and only then it can track. Bootstrap is a stochastic fitting procedure which can result in slight offsets. It was even worse at the begining, as it could result in slight floor slant, different every time, unless you put your HMD on an even surface at steamvr start.

I've been playing the new The Burst VR game and it's quite fun!
Aside some holster and off hand grab point positions being slightly weird, it's a great game. UE5 but is sharp, looks good and performs great.
They have spider man/alyx grabby gloves make it feel a lot like Bulletstorm whip, you can use it to steal guns, throw barrels at people. If you run out and there is not time to reload you can just punch em. Kinda Bulletstorm/Borderlands/Half Life at home feel. Good weapon variety, fun driving sections, parkour and shiet. Enemies do be kinda dumb, but it's lore appropriate.

I've recently come into some money, (bit over 5k) and while I plan on putting most of it away, is this my sign to finally get into VR?
I was thinking of getting the valve index, mostly for "sitting down" games. Elite Dangerous being the main game I'm interested in, other than that I'd quite like to experience movies in VR, in a fake movie theatre but it's difficult to find good testimonials for how good / bad it actually is. It's either 5 year old comments saying "the resolution is too bad and my neck hurts", or overhyped youtube fanboys going: "THE ULTIMATE CINEMA EXPERIENCE!!!!" which cleary is unrealistic.
I live in a tiny space, reminiscent of the tiny japanese otaku apartments where you can take about three quarters of a step into each direction before you bump into something and I have mobility issues, so room scale vr shit is right out for me sadly.
So while I really fucking want to immerse myself full ass in VR, I can't shake the feeling like I'm about to spend $1k on a $200 experience.

I'm pretty new to VR myself so I'm not the most experienced, but I just got a Quest 3, I can comfortably lay in bed or sit in my chair to play games like Project Wingman, Minecraft VR, VR Chat, and War Thunder
the resolution is not a problem at all (though I've always been complacent with lower spec shit so judge for yourself if you think it's good enough), I don't need cables except for charging even with PCVR (AirLink replaces the need for a link cable), and the headset is relatively comfortable enough to wear for 2-3 hours even with headphones on, if you don't have headphones I've found the speakers to be pretty decent for what they are and the headset has bluetooth functionality. I haven't tried watching videos in a proper environment for it before but judging by how good games look and what not I would imagine it's still pretty good

Just get something cheaper to test the waters then. Maybe Valve will release something new in the meantime. Used Quest 2 are now $150, in terms of price to features it's the best VR has ever been and there's very little you cannot do with a Quest 2.
Quest 3S 'replaces' it but is also $300 and not a meaningful upgrade unless you play standalone games. Regular Quest 3 is a good middle ground and the lenses really do make it more pleasant to use in my opinion.
It's just hard to recommend an Index anymore unless you have the use case for lighthouse tracking in the form of full body tracking, which it sounds like you do not.

I'd recommend to get the Crystal Light over the original Crystal. The only meaningful benefit the original has is that the microphone is worlds better and it has eye tracking. But that shit ain't worth 700 dollars more MSRP to MSRP.

The audio is dogshit by default though, you really want to bring your own speakers or get their DMAS headphones that can rival the Index, the current best integrated audio on the market.

I can't recommend it enough if you have a good router
outside of being super reliable, and having a bunch of options for tweaking your signal, it also does a bunch of little stuff that I like a lot.
It's got multi monitor now, ASW, snapdragons version of FSR if you need any of that stuff for performance.
I wish that it had profiles, would be my biggest complaint.
Would be nice if I could save settings for a specific game and then just have that profile in a dropdown box or something.
Virtual desktop +Q3 killed playing games on my steamdeck in bed for me. I just do it in VD with an xbox controller and it's superior in almost every way. (gotta wear the headset, which is minus comfort, but steamdeck is heavy and you gotta prop it up on something on your chest anyway or your arms fall asleep.)
I use VD so much I use it even when I'm not playing VR games now.

VD does a lot of "image enhance" shit in the background, some of it I haven't figured out yet. I don't know how taxing that shit is on your system, but it certainly needs to add at least 'something' on top. But it's all hidden between some dumb slider. Sadly this does cause a bit of latency.
Couple of month back VD was the only way to get fake finger tracking into VRC, and that was the main reason for me to consider it. Everything else can be easily covered with steam link. However, I do have a Quest Pro and Steam Link uses foveated encoding, so I do get more bang for my buck on that front.

the only issues I had with Steam Link in some games were cames I pirated. And those problems could be solved by deactivating some "UltraLeap" layer, pic related.

Oh and should you become like me and switching between VD and steam link, you might notice some strange behavior in steam link. This is because Steam VR auto switches to some virtual desktop open XR runtime thing. I noticed this a lot because my foveated rending always seems to not work when I switched from virtual desktop to steam link. Might not be an issue for you, since you are on a Q3, but I wanted to mention it.
You can easily switch it in the OpenXR settings on your desktop, but I think you need to restard Steam VR if you do that.

I didn't find it as user friendly as VD, and I also disliked the occulus hub world pc thing. I don't have a bunch of experience with airlink but it should be capable of almost everything VD does, visually at least. Airlink doesn't do emulated vive trackers and stuff like that.

PSVR obviously wouldn't do either so no-one but existing Playstation owners would have cared at all. Would people be down to do a Fum/o/ meet at some point?
I'm imagining a Fumo style /o/ car meet, all the events are all outfit themes and such but what about fun props, in addition to everyone being fumos because it was really nice the last fumo meet where everyones computers ran really well.
Probably structured around everyone meeting in a big parking lot and 'mirin eachothers vehicles/cars/hovercrafts/motorcycles/etc, and then having a big rideout together through some nice wide open route 66 style highway maps.
I think itd be awesome to see what people decide to make or gamerip for their vehicles.
I'd also be down for finding and cleaning up some gamerip/sketchfab/etc bases for people who are less blender inclined so they can customize their own things like a car you really like from a videogame or a roomba or a WoW mount.
