This year, All Hallows' Day falls on Friday November 1. It is a day when we remember those who are no longer with us and light candles at their gravestones.

Join me for a short event in which we think about the dead that we miss, in a peaceful instance. We will gather at a graveyard and reminisce about those who are no longer with us, and (if you want to) tell stories about the departed who made a difference in your life.

The event will last for one hour only, and then I will close the instance and people can go to the normal Friday hangout for a more cheerful atmosphere, if they want to.

Poorfag never-had-vr-before here, would a second hand quest 2 without a charger at 160 dollars be worth it? And since i'm here already, would a GTX 1080 even be capable of handling that? Not really. Spend some time saving up a bit more money and buy a Quest 3s instead, the point of that headset is to be the low-end replacement for quest 2. There's enough compute onboard where the standalone experience won't suck, which should get you time having fun in VR long enough to once again save up and upgrade your PC

I've read about that, better straps and those face cup thingies right? I think I tried a quest at a friend some years ago and it felt decent enough for starters so I assume it shouldn't be too bad, at least for a while.

It's a bit of a non answer but I like to dip my toes in all sorts of experiences so anything could go. But besides the more famous ones (like Beatsaber, Boneworks, Pavlov, that sword and sorcery game etc.) I'm more interested in playing older games with added VR support (think racing/flight sims, skyrim) than just full blown VR only games. Although, thinking about it, those older games might be more resource demanding.

Better strap was all I needed for a Quest 2 in my case. Stock strap is decent enough for shorter sessions though.
I think most of the VR games you mentioned would work at low settings or with reduced render resolution. I played most of them on a worse setup, although it was with a different headset.
As far as sims go, ACC, WRC, and BeamNG don't run well on anything and probably wouldn't be playable on your setup, but I think you can probably get by in other racing sims for now with settings turned down. Not really familiar with flight sims though.

Dirt Rally 2 or Richard Burns Rally should work ok and work well on a controller.

You need to know, a 1080 is going to be low end for VR. You can run most games but you'll have to turn ingame settings way down to get many of them running smooth, to the point where they can start to look like mud. Playing with framedrops sucks, it makes people more sick when they first start and can give even veterans a headache. Your CPU is also an important part of the equation.

Flight/Racing sims are the most intensive, some you simply won't be able to play smoothly but others are playable albeit extremely ugly. Ugly is still preferable to compromising on resolution in games that require visual clarity like sims.
Skyrim is actually very performant but you can't just install any modpack because overextensive graphics mods will end that.
Mods are a mixed bag. Older game mods like HL2VR will run very well. Injected VR via UEVR is high end, as much as the latest sims in terms of hardware demand.

Figure out how long before you could realistically upgrade if you enjoy VR. If it's only a couple of months, go for it. If it's a year maybe consider what >>500337186 suggested and have a better standalone option in your back pocket. And for what it's worth standalone slop has been gradually increasing in popularity here.

Both work, if you never done any blender before, I would say start with modifying stuff you find / buy. Just being good at that will make you able to put any clothes on any base, so no need to look for stuff made for your base, everything works!

can someone explain to me what 'virtual gunstock' is supposed to do (specifically the one in ITR2)
like in contractors/showdown, you have options for virtual stock and to also calibrate if you have a physical stock to put your controllers in.
If I try the virtual stock in ITR2 it just makes guns unusable? if it's enabled I can't aim for shit and any adjustments I make with my hands just don't happen in the game.
I'm hoping they eventually add an option to calibrate each gun individually like contractors but my stock works with the ak74m anyway so it isn't affecting me much at the moment.

When I use outfits that have high heels, and enable the high heel blendshape on my avatar, my feet sink into the ground a little bit. When I wear non-high heels, my feet are normal and don't sink into the floor.

I asked for some advice yesterday and someone told me this could be due to the feet being below floor level in Blender and wrongfully exported. But I just opened Blender and the feet are at floor level for the model I exported, not below. Why is this happening to me?

Are you using full body? You can just adjust upward.
If not, what matters is where the base of your avatar is positioned in unity, specifically in your armature configuration. Not blender. Toe bones can effect where unity wants to place your avatar too.

If you're using FBT it's easiest just to move yourself up a bit. If not, pay close attention to the config when you first import your fbx in unity.

While you can use this I would recommend to just playspace move up cause your body proportions might be off. FBT doesn't know you have high heels its just extends the legs. You'd have to also wear high heels irl.

Just a heads up that the latest SteamVR patch has broken the controls in Bonelabs (again), where your hand position and rotation won't update and they'll be stuck at your sides. To fix this you'll need to downgrade your SteamVR to the previous version under Properties > Betas > Previous.

Why are there so many Rusks at pypy that never come to any of the other instances?

People who got their keys through patreon distribution after supporting for months have their reviews marked as "free" so their reviews don't count. Brainlets who bought a game in its first release in early access stage are review bombing because apparently an early access project needs to be %100 out of the box. June needs to deliver and continue to work on the features and the better then vrchat project that was promised, but people should stop buying this and expecting it to be a fully fledged game. Each of these garbage reviews I have read has been from a person who previously followed the development of this, or knew the state of it to begin with, then bought it just to scoff and be disappointed, if you didn't like it to begin with why touch it. I am disappointed by the amount of people willing to act like hounds, preparing for the release to buy it review bomb it and refund it.

I just wanted a proof of concept to be finished before I dropped a dime on it, never touched the patreon, and now I know the game exist, and I am willing to support it, but just the same, I am willing to refund it if this doesn't deliver on these expectations in the next year.

I'll take my positive review down myself if he doesn't deliver, but some of you seriously should understand the developmental speed of a single man on coffee pulling all nighters with one or two people helping, give the man a break, and if you don't like it, review if from the perspective you really came here for or list what you really think. Reading these reviews saying it wasn't a magical sparkling unicorn out of the box has been like watching many of my favorite early access games all over again. Short sighted people expecting a fully developed product too early when the name of the program is literally (Early Access).

Release is harder than the versions before but the difficulty increase is too gradual. By the time you're fighting fully armored enemies and strong mages you're already very overpowered.

As a yankee I couldn't tell you. I just play with Euros when I can which is mainly just Friday Contractors at this point and the extremely rare cases I can make it to Tuesday Pavlov. The games that do happen Friday night for NA I have other commitments so I can never go to those. Asseto I got too demoralized and constantly feeling mogged so I stopped going to that. If the outfit is not made for the base you're using you can't fit it in unity you'll have to learn blender sculpting, editing and weight painting first.

If it's made for your base, Modular Avatar applies on build so you have to be in playmode to test. Also when setting up outfits it would give you an error if something is wrong.

I don't actually think lobby turnout is much different between NA and EU though outside of Assetto, and the number of lobbies that get hosted consistently isn't really that different either.

Halloween Outfit Showcase

As it's a free weekend and close to Halloween, what better thing to do than re-hash last years map to do a Halloween outfit contest before the DJ event. Show off whatever you've been working on this year, or maybe something from the previous years that you particularly liked. As this is pretty fast and loose I've got 1/3 judges so if I don't find any over the course of the next two days I'll be grabbing some people from the crowd (just like the idol contest). I only envisage this lasting an hour or two at most, and when we're done (and if you really want to I can tally up scores) we can start hopping worlds and terrorising TDAs or just find somewhere to plonk down with a beer.
The scores and format are the same as last year's: Cuteness Spookiness and Creativity are arbitrarily score; the line behind the judge to get on stage; the seat system to get plonked on stage with all the cameras (though you're free to hop on stage when it's your turn, especially with a group); and some time to do a little skit. Total time on stage is two minutes, including the entry animation and 30 seconds per judge for comments, so keep it short and sweet. I'll explain it on the day and throughout.

The focus for this year's Halloween event is mainly the DJ part, especially in the EU timeslot with 15 outfit slots for the current plan. I've already seen some pretty good things this year and heard some people ask why there isn't anything closer to Halloween or another proper showcase so this is the opportunity to do something like that without stepping on too many toes.

I've been trying to run smaller stuff more often in NA, but people are pretty good now about restarting or slowing down to keep the pack together on big tracks if you just ask in the voice chat.
For EU, there's enough people in the races that you'll definitely see other anons.

You can set up teleports with comfy map, but it requires a good bit of manual setup for the host since you have to make your own teleport points. It also requires everyone joining to have CSP and comfy map installed, which isn't that big a deal, but any extra requirements are a pain for new players.
I could start doing it when we run bigger maps if there's enough interest, but digging around for mods already takes long enough that I don't want spend more time on server setup if it's not going to matter much to anyone that's going to show up.

It's been a few years since I've used rigid bodies in avatars, but I recall them working just fine.
Now everything goes to shit, both ingame or using avatar emulator. Even a simple sphere rigid body won't fall right.

Why does it feel like every major headset all come with huge drawbacks.

I upgraded from an og vive to a quest 2, and despite the higher resolution, going from oled to lcd was a pretty big hit. Playing alyx, every dark environment looks like shit and I legit feel like I lost a lot more immersion than with screen door effect.

Does the quest 3 have the same issue or is the screen better ?

Is the psvr2 a valid alternative for pcvr these days? Seems like a decent headset with oled.
It hurtd to give up wireless but I can't do with decent contrast.

Or is there some headset coming checking all (or most of ) the boxes ?

That was my first thought too, but same with colliders disabled and everything moved away.
To rule out the avatar I also removed everything in the scene and added a fresh different avatar with just a rigid body cube, with the same result.
Even creating a new scene I get the same result with this minimal setup, as soon as I add an avatar descriptor and enable avatar emulator.
Just to cover all bases I also tried this setup in-game. Mostly the same, but cube stays wobbling in my general vicinity.

Every HMD on market is a huge compromise.
Quest 3 has better contrast than 2 but ultimately it's still LCD. QPro is slightly better in that regard.
PSVR2 as a PC HMD is meme, you might as well get Vive Pro and have much better time. Bigmeme is also an option if you have lighthouses and knuckles already.
If wireless OLED is what you want then Vive Pro is literally your only option.

I think using our avatars as reaction images would be fun and would generate a lot of unique content for us as we think of ways on how to create proper emotions using our avatars that properly complements the emotion of the post we are doing.

Finished Batman. Unfortunately I experienced more bugs the further I progressed, even after waiting days for these couple of patches. There's a low point towards the end (not the very end) where the game is just sitting through dialogue and cutscenes one after the other, but overall it would be a strong 8/10 if it weren't for the lack of polish. They put Rocksteady to shame, not that it's a difficult feat at this point. I was impressed by the writing, and the atmosphere and music were excellent. The devs clearly cared. If that's basically all you played, there's a ton of older releases you missed out on. Even then, you'll still run out of stuff to do if you're not into multiplayer stuff or sim autism.
As far as really recent games goes, I can't think of much outside of Into the Radius 2, and that's still pretty unfinished right now. Since you have a Quest 3 you could try that new Batman game that's supposedly pretty good.

I spent some time messing with the WorldPhysics asset to try and understand how it works, and it turns out it's actually solving two separate problems.
The first is making rigid bodies actually exist in world space, instead of moving around with your avatar and generally being where they should not be.
The second is rigid bodies going crazy when parented to avatars, which is what I care about.
The solution to the latter seems to basically be enabling and disabling the rigid body collider on a loop, though I have no idea how it is actually looping. Maybe just disabling then enabling them, but I can do that manually and it doesn't solve anything; if enabled they freak out, if disable they don't collide.
So a the end of the day I still have no idea how it works, but just copy their state machine, and add your non-kinematic rigid bodies' colliders to the "Physics Collider Off" and "Physics Collider On (Is Kinematic)" animations. If you don't care about them truly existing in world space you can also just place them wherever in your hierarchy, and they'll behave like you'd expect.
There is also a tracked issue on Canny, reported in... 2018. They're not going to fix it.
