I do it with 7 components, 2 front, 2 side, 1 back, and 2 for the lower half of the front that are on bones rotationally constrained to the lower leg

I still swear by having a separate physbone component for each section of the skirt, and an inside-collider constrained to an object in the same position as the upper leg, with an aim-at constraint towards the knee.
It's finicky as fuck and requires a ton of manual adjustment of up vectors and collider positions, and the performance is probably terrible despite the medium rating, but it works.

Feet, generally I use slippers, then put a trackstrap on the middle of the slipper with the tracker at the top-center. The only issue I have is that when angling my foot downwards, the knee IK becomes odd and the foot angle becomes unnaturally too low, not quite sure how to fix that.

There's a pretty big difference in clarity, and you should be able to get refurb 128gb ones for under $400. Could wait a little longer for Black Friday, but I don't think it'll get better than that for a while.
If you know for sure you'll use it a lot, I'd just go straight to the Quest 3, but if you really can't justify spending the extra money, then a cheap used Quest 2 will still work.

Whatever manufacturing issues they had at launch, they clearly haven't improved at all. The lenses themselves are great, but the holders will inevitably crack.
Remember that despite what they state on their website, they have stated elsewhere they you have a 1 year warranty on these things.

I've been trying to fix the knees on my avatar crossing over when crouching but it just doesn't seem to do anything, I tried copying the armature bone position, rotation, etc from the base fbx which works correctly but it still refuses to work in game. How do you really fix this shit?

I played through the first 3 chapters so far my dogshit opinions are, that
1.The grab for the sidearm/medicine injection is super sensitive (I'm on knuckles)
2.There's a lot of objects in the world that immediatly break your immersion while you're exploring/stealthing because of the nono cheating orange box they throw at you.
3.I could not for the life of me find out how much health I had at anypoint in the game and empty vials can be picked up and stored for some reason which doesn't make any sense since you cant use them again anyways they should just break like the glass bottles do.
4.No smooth locomotion makes me dislike it quite a bit, its on snap turning and irl turning for that .

Other than that the game is as atmospheric and tense as intended, it is dark as fuck as op said.
The grabbing of the location of your weapons and items is pretty intuitive. e.g. if you have your sidearm drawn and you grab your chest for ammo it grabs the right ammo without having to fumble around for it. The inventory for the masks/backpack is pretty intuitive overall.

Did you replace an fbx that was already part of a scene, or did you do a clean import of a new one? Unity will apply some scaling to the armature and meshes when imported into a scene, and can get very unhappy if the fbx is replaced with one that was exported at a different scale.
Select the fbx in your assets, go to the rig tab, hit configure, and then muscle & settings. Play with Open Close a bit. Does everything look fine?
In a pinch, you can actually use the armature from your working fbx, and only use the modified mesh from your new fbx. Add your old working fbx to the scene, find the mesh's skinned mesh renderer, and click the circle to the right of the Mesh field. Search for the name of your mesh and click it. You can click back and forth between the meshes and the scene will update on the fly. If the rigs are different this will break things (pictured: I rotated the legs), and sometimes unity just chokes while you're selecting things and won't update until you close the search window.

I did a clean import of a new one. Open Close looks fine. I've added stuff to the armature I want to use so I don't think it'll work changing the skinned mesh renderer.
I verified now that the issue occurs if I import my unmodified base into blender, export as is without changing anything, then import back into unity as a new fbx

Are you exporting using blender's default settings?
By default it is set to export with extra leaf bones that you do not want, and FBX scaling is set to local, which is usually not what the original FBX was exported with.
Try setting Apply Scalings to FBX all, and more importantly disable Add Leaf bones, if you have not already.
Barring that, you can browse the raw data of fbx files ( not human readable but there are programs for it ) and compare the original fbx to the exported one, and figure out what the hell it's doing differently.

I won't make the mistake of overshooting and anticipating instance count again unless there is clear demand for it like a 20+ person queue or anons posting on the thread to open a 2nd instance.
Some ideas in mind are:
1) video stream that is posted directly on the thread(we did this back in secret santa 2020 iirc)
2) fully duplicating not just the hologram but also the stage controls so there are less need to make anons commit to an overflow instance that may not materialize. Making overflows more automatic in expansion so some single anon can just make an instance and it will work without further need for training or coordination.

Retrospectively thinking about how FBF expanded into a 2 instance NA and 2 instance EU event.
A clear demand for it and a splitting of instance is not just required, it is necessary.

I have some ideas on how to properly and organically split a currently running instance when queues pop out. We'll take inspiration from the jp events I've been to. Essentially only one instance ever gets opened at the start. Then when a critical mass is reached about 90% of the instance is full they have the staff split the group half by asking everyone to split organically.
||Note: The japanese, all of them are willing to cooperate with this.
Hence for our NA instance goers I will install a system that forcefully teleports people everyone via UDON into an area with good culling to drop portals in||

As a side effect of my auto collider script, I can get the approximate COM, which I can use for some interesting projects. I doubt the auto assignment of the colliders will work on anime girls tho. anyway, I can use this with things that need the kinematics of the COM, like leaning or balance.
