Just got done playing some unironic skyrim VR for the first time in 7 years. FUS modpack (found a precompiled download on the russian site so I didn't have to pay the nexus goy tax) . Even with all the VR mods, the controls are pretty clunky; I kind of expected things to be more streamlined by now but it's not. I suppose I'll get used to it eventually.

As reddit as it sounds, it was actually pretty comfy to sit in a chair at the inn and listen to the bard sing the meme song, as I sipped some tea irl.

It's a game that's so heavily built around menus that you are going to never be able to get it to not be clunky to some extent, but it's pretty playable as long as you're not doing anything complex and the amount of content between the game + mods is still unmatched for VR outside of VRC.

Make a single outfit avatar with minimal effects and accessories and delete every part of the mesh hidden by the clothes. Atlas it down to a handful of materials so you're medium or better. Use this for big instances, events, meetups. Save the very poor for intimate or small meets.

Materials-wise, sure, but full-rating-wise, I can't imagine it working out for any booth. Those things get 50k+ poly just for body, and then clothes are never low-poly either. I think I'll simply start ignoring polycount, though removing parts of the body that are hidden behind clothes is obviously a great thing to do. I think there was even an unity-side plugin for that, based on model hiding shape keys? Guess I can still be good despite not being <Good>

>Use this for big instances, events, meetups. Save the very poor for intimate or small meets.
That's some nice logic, I'll start doing that.

Polygons are definitely overrated in terms of a performance problem, the low counts cone from the legacy behaviour of unity: the stats assume that you have shapekeys operating on those polygons to act as a performance problem. What us underrated are CPU draw stuff like animators and layers since they aren't rated at all but make up a good 40% of the performance impact of bad avatars. Stuff like material count, mesh count and stuff like that is far more important too. But go over 70k polygons and people stop caring about the other things too

It won't be pretty good, but i guess it'll run things, more or less. I can see you're not exactly aiming for higher price brackets, but if you can save up and go for ryzen 7600x, it's probably a good idea since it'll give you am5 socket for cheaper future upgrades. Saves up on the longer run, plus 7600x is already considerably good.

It will function but it won't be ideal. The extra vram sounds good on paper but I'd imagine the card will probably choke and die due to low processing power long before that extra vram helps. The 60 series also tends to have dogshit bandwidth so even if you had a 5060 it's probably going to run worse than like a 2080. An index alone driving at full resolution@144hz which is on the low end of resolution can pull something like 15-16gb/s while a 3060 can only push right around that best case. Something on the higher end of resolution like a quest 3/quest pro/bigscreen/ect can easily exceed that and just cause hard bottlenecks no matter how much juice or vram the card has. If you're trying to save money you're probably better off going for a 3070 and if you've got more budget and can find one the 4070ti super is by far the best performance/dollar with 80 series bus speed you can find right now and will likely be able to find for a while. If you really want extra vram you can find used 3090s on ebay for as low as 600-800usd sometimes which will be the peak power per dollar though if you're lucky you can rarely find a 4070ti super for close to msrp. Honestly if you're dead set on that price range I'd even look into just grabbing a used 3080 before I'd pay msrp for a 3060 or even at least move to a 3060ti.

Yeah, it's all relative. I don't think operating at the OpenXR level is actually that valuable though. OpenXR is actually pretty trash in the same way all of Khronos' labyrinthine designed-by-committee APIs are. I'm sure you get stockholmed into liking it eventually, but man, OpenVR was so much simpler. And it's still the only API you can write compositor overlays in (which sure, is mostly Valve's fault for not implementing any overlay extensions in SteamVR, but it's still a failing of the ecosystem).

you can very much do soulful unity slop, it's just that with a custom engine you spend your effort into rewriting mechanics you'd like to have in game, and with basic bitch unity you spend this time on gameplay and fun

you can absolutely outperform AAAslop in terms of fun, but you can't deny the fact that by choosing to operate on lower level, you spend time on reinventing the wheel and you could've spent it on making actual game instead

News flash, you have to rewrite everything if you want things to work properly anyway.
With unity/unreal it's very easy to make an fps that kinda works, but to make it work well is unironically harder than writing your own things from scratch, simply because you not only need to have complete understanding of fundamentals, but also engine specific quirks. It's a superset, not a subset.

HELSINKIIIII, THUUUNDEEER. We're getting on 90ties GTR and going to the country of fastest men - Finland!

1 hour practice

10 laps race

Afterwards, going all the way to Vladivostok to drive around a small scenic track.

Assetto - can be played with wheel, controller, or steam-vr-wheel addon, it doesn't matter, we will all have fun driving together. If you just bought Assetto - grab Assetto Corsa Content Manager - a better launcher and mod manager: https://assettocorsa.club/content-manager.html To install mods: just drag and drop zip files from mega onto the Content Manager windows and click on the hamburger menu on top right. Highly recommend installing stable custom shader patch and 7-zip plugin in Content manager.

UI radar are immersion breaking and basically cheating, but this guy will tell you verbally if someone is there on your right. Download, install, select Assetto Corsa in game list, press "Start application" and it should work!

Technically, OpenXR can support overlays by design, the whole frame submission is built around layers in the first place.
I only ever used one, but the API advertised support for up to 16 and that's enough to implement pretty much everything steamvr overlays do.
Stockholm syndrome wise, maybe you are right, but both vulkan/openxr mostly only do things that you really need to do anyway.
If you throw away mobile trash like renderpasses from vulkan, which you can easily do on pc, and go bindless, vulkan is fine.

It had mechanics closer to CS in 2018 and it was basically unplayable. Cone fire is basically a flat game cope to make the mouse accuracy imperfect, when combined with manual aiming in VR it resulted in absurd inaccuracy. It was basically one tap people in the head with the AK or waste your money on some shit that will miss the entire magazine from 5 meters.

for this effect https://vimeo.com/362071309
I need an "activator" at the feet of each avatar. I guess I can spawn an empty gameobject and parent it to each player?
What would I need to look for to make sure that every player avatar has this certain game object parented in their hierachy, no matter if they join sooner or later than the one observing the effect?
Can anybody give me any hints?
Anonymous No.515738604

Assuming you mean vrchat, you can "parent" a gameobject manually by moving it to the local player's head tracking data every frame. If you need every player to have something that also exists on remote clients, I think the state of the art is https://creators.vrchat.com/worlds/udon/persistence/player-object/ , which obviates some of weirder object pooling systems you used to have to use; you'll still have to manually move them to the local player's position though; vrchat doesn't let you directly access the player rig GameObjects.

Ohayo /vrg/,

Dates for the /vg/ League 24 Soccer/Football Friendlies have been announced, taking place over the last two weekends of March.

Firstly, are there any specific generals you guys want to go up against for friendlies? Pic related are all the teams that were in the previous tournament.
Secondly, since I did say I'm open to changing up the team this year and forcing game reps on to the roster, are there any players or VR game representatives you want to see added to the team for friendlies (and possibly beyond that)?

Now that I think about it again after rewatching the talk, is what they refer as "stencil mesh" (aka occlusion mesh) still relevant?
OpenXR doesn't mention anything about that at all, nor does it provide a way to get it.
We are doing vkQueueSubmit, so the fragments on the border should be processed still, I don't see a way for them to optimize that in the api backend.
Testing is needed.

What exactly is AMD GPU's deal in VR? All of the logic in the world suggests it should be a massively good performer in VR, but then I check VR vidya tests and I see shit like pic related. I'd like a 7900xtx because it's dirt cheap for what it is, but for some ridiculous reason it just seems to be failing in VR, against GPUs that would perform same or worse in flat stuff.

For maximum potential, the pool will be closed at 7PM EST Thursday, March 6th, and we'll start in any world with a pool (original one is gone, RIP). If anyone has any suggestions, please let us know.

Once we have successfully gathered and chosen and cloned our avatars of choice, we'll charge through public worlds and raid their pools to save them from AIDS and stingrays.

Make an avatar that is so optimized, no safety setting will be able to get through to the pool.

it failed. All the people who shouldn't have wanted here are already part of the usual group.
The thread is only for shitposting and posturing. Very rarely an event is only announced and planned in the thread. I'd even say that the majority of stuff that is done here is first planned in discord servers and secondly communicated here.
It's over. We might as well take the thread as what it is: a collection of random screenshots of stuff that is or is not loosely related to VR.

Any examples of this kind of events? Stuff like FBF or vault always gets tons of thread posts on how you can contribute, smaller stuff simply doesn't have any discussion because people just drop vidya lobbies.

but I must admit, I'm hosting a thing or two and sometimes I avoid asking stuff in thread - that's because I've experienced lots of obvious targeted shitposting and I just know for a fact that if I'll mention a problem, some schizo will work very hard through the week to pretend the issue is bigger than it is, for no reason other than to make things look bad for everyone. Then again, I'm usually just asking in game instead, so it's not as if there's any secret discord circles as far as my knowledge goes

You can already do that through VD and whatnot. For running games standalone the resolution (= pixel density) would be total dogshit, and if you want portability you'd just get the deck or switch 2 and maybe AR glasses instead of carrying a fucking headset around. There's no point.

Quick and dirty test: I don't hate it... I think...
The face seems somewhat "softer" or "rounder" (for lack of better words) than what I am used from Nyasuka. Don't know if I want that yet. Shinano seems to have way more options when it comes to outfits though.

Honestly I've done half a dozen body swaps and never gone to the effort of connecting the mesh because it's literally invisible 99% of the time with solid color matching. I don't do any datatransfers generally on the vast majority of body swaps it's just slapping the head on the body after manually positioning it. On a handful of bases there have been small issues with the neck not bending how I'd like but that's usually fixed with neck length shapekeys or by adjusting the height of the head relative to the neck or by moving some bones around a bit. These days the color matching and unity setup would generally take much longer than the blender portion ever would, I'm surprised nobody has done a tutorial on it considering it really only takes a few minutes of not complicated work.

>I'm surprised nobody has done a tutorial
I'm the anon wanting to do the body/headwap and I am surprised about this too.

Would you walk me through a normal bodyswap? I've read about people just filling the "head hole" or selecting the vertices and push them further in to prevent visible holes. I wonder how to deal with either the new faces that have been generated, or with how to color match that portion of the neck properly.
I think connecting the mesh really only works if I somehow force neck and/or head to have the same amount of vertices, which I guess could also fuck with the UV or with potential blendshapes?

I see a Nyasuka user trying to do a body swap and it's like I see myself from 3 years ago. Back then I did stitch the verts and I think the results were ok but I can't tell you if it's worth the effort, honestly, especially since the base of her neck has a non-standard shape. I have since decided to just use the hair and recreate the general look instead of doing swaps. Shinano especially can be customised a lot with just provided Blendshapes, I would fiddle with them first. If you want less soft look try those near the bottom of the list "face otona" or something like that gives her a bit more "adult" look.

This will be a bit shorthand but basically in blender:
1.) Import both fbx
2.) Delete all the mesh that won't be used from both
3.) Keep all the bones from head and lower (including hair/eye bones and all that) for the head (I assume there is a better way but I just delete that shit in edit mode personally)
4.) Keep all bones except the head and lower for the body
5.) Move the head into position on the body then do object > apply > all transforms
6.) Ctrl + j the armatures together and put the head and related bones under where they should be by going into edit mode again and Ctrl + p selecting the newly moved head onto the new body neck
7.) Go into the head/hair meshes make sure you select the new body in the armature modifier
8.) Move some shit around and make sure everything works. Sometimes if the neck is weighted weirdly you'll have issues with it bending strangely so test that, if you have issues you can just go back to the step where you're adjusting the head fit and try a few different orientations. Very rarely will you need to ever care about the hole in the head/neck. I will keep another model for ref in blender just to compare usually.
9.) Once you've got everything fine in blender export and import to unity. Usually for new models I will create an extra folder so I can use a duplicate of my fx controllers/params/all that kind of stuff without fucking with my other models. Can just ctrl + d and copy them to another folder. Use the stuff from the head version of the model as that's where the facial expressions are that you care about. You can pumpkin tools over the descriptor and all that fun stuff.
10.) Set the viewball because it is now fucked and make sure you detach the pipleline ID in the descriptor if you had previously uploaded whatever you copied off.
11.) You are largely done all that's left is to color match with one of the guides around and clean up params/menus/shader as desired.

Blender + unity shouldn't take more than an hour.

A way to do it which will take a while: create a duplicate of the head, join the meshes, merge nearest vertices manually from the neck to the head. If the topology doesn't match up use the knife tool to create more edges/vertices to merge to the duplicated face, separate by material so they're no longer joined but the vertices are in the same place, delete the duplicate. The end vertices of the neck now match up. Then you just need to make the texture's color between the two make sense.

I forgot to mention it but you may need to do some actual weight painting or sculpting if the hair specifically is designed to conform to the neck. My neck is a good example of this as it is partially weighted to the neck. Sometimes it looks fine sometimes I need to go in and weight paint it a bit. This is pretty hair/base specific though kokoa has a fat ass head. Any neck seam will generally disappear almost entirely if not completely once your colors/shaders are correclty matched which I find to be the easiest part however I usually ask S to do it for me because I am lazy and they do it much faster than me.

This seam I'd consider to be imperfect and it's still more or less completely invisible under nearly all lighting circumstances. You can stitch if you're feeling autistic but it is almost completely for fun and not for aesthetic. If you'll see it at all it's usually going to be on real time lighting maps and that's niche fuckery edge case so I don't worry about it though I'm sure someone better at blender/unity would know what the issue is and how to fix it (and even then it's really not that noticeable to the average person unless they're looking directly at it).

It doesn't help that I tried to contact the creator 3 times and it never worked out for me. This never happened with verious outfit creators or with the Hakka/Sue creator.
So... maybe it's finally time to say good bye to Nyasuka.

/xivg/ (Final Fantasy 14 General) has challenged /vrg/ to a rematch since people from their general have expressed interest in facing us again and the sentiment seems to be shared here.

Thus, the "Grown Ass Fucking Men Bowl" has been scheduled for March 21st, 19:00 UTC/3:00pm EST (should be converted correctly keeping in mind the upcoming daylight savings change happening in a week... I think)

There are still two other teams we can go against for friendlies for a total of three matches. So far it looks like the other suggestions have been /vgt/, /uma/, /mjg/, /lcg/, /fgog/, /psg/, & /2hug/.
Any other teams before I start asking some of those generals' managers?

Maybe we can also add on a VRFps or a Pavlov player to the team? But I would need suggestions on a good player name and model.

Shoebox? It constrains to the smallest roomscale playspace (there's a required amount of space for roomscale) and you can determine the minimum playspace you want to play against. If you're going against control stick movement vs control stick movement you can use all of the virtual arena.

Recent updates have improved the punch/damage system but it is still firmly in early access

NTA but I think "decoupled" refers to what's also called "Texture space shading" in https://developer.nvidia.com/blog/texture-space-shading/ or "object space shading" in https://www.oxidegames.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Generalized-Decoupled-and-Object-Space-Shading-System.pdf . Essentially, instead of doing all the shading for each visible screenspace pixel (forward and deferred), you do some of the shading in unique texel space and then sample those textures back in screenspace for the final render. Rationale for VR being you can reuse a lot of the view-independent-but-expensive shading calculations (GI/AO, shadows) between each eye. It's sort of like the how to enlighten realtimeGI in unity uses a low resolution lightmap texture that's updated by the CPU slowly. Object-space is subtly different, but same sort of advantage for stereo rendering.

Seems cool, though I'm not finding much evidence of anyone using it for VR games outside of research.

Because it's very advanced and most game devs are retards who use unity.
Also not that useful for flatshit, ara, the game made by the author of the paper doesn't run that well.
So not many try.

The advantage is not only in obvious performance gains, you shade only once instead of twice for each view, but you can also reuse the shading data from previous frames which is very valuable for high fps vr, not so much for flatshit. Also the quality of shading is better, because there is no eye disparity in shading, so there are fewer (lack of?) stereo artifacts.

>>515852737
>it's basically what baking does
Baking assumes a completely static scene, monkey.
>It won't help with jaggies or clarity
Wrong. Performance saved from not running the expensive fragment shaders twice can be spend on the vertex shader instead, which will "help with the jaggies".

as usual schizo terry kun... Doesn’t look into practicalities, most likely is wrong, but will act high and mighty.

If you are so concerned about good of VR, why don't you implement a few texture space PBR shaders, including reuse of previous frame results and just publish them for everyone to use huh in HLSL, Unity and Unreal formats? That kind of shader could do the calculations in texture space, and then render them into albedo texture of the object so that final render just uses that texture?

Oh wait it will be extremely oversampling every object or undersampling them, or you'll have to dynamically change sizes of render targets depending on object size in the world, and will require massive amount of VRAM to run all fragment shaders per texture space of visible objects instead of the screen space.

It's a lot more involved. It's not an easy task, you need to build your whole engine around that.

>you'll have to dynamically change sizes of render targets depending on object size in the world
It's 2025, it's a real problem for like what, 5 years?

>will require massive amount of VRAM to run all fragment shaders per texture space of visible objects instead of the screen space
Or you just do a cheap "depth-like" prepass and only render what's actually visible.
Of course the naive approach of shading literally everything doesn't work. You actually have to think.

As an event maker, planning and detailing how your event is supposed to go on the thread publicly makes people get tired of it before the event even occurs.

So you want to actually only release the info on collaborators within a DM group first to assemble and create it. We announce the info on the thread and how they can contribute but never the actual final thing.

The community is the thread. the DM group is for like the 6 anons from the thread who said they'd be willing to contribute and create it together with.

Unless you can help us figure out how to not make people tired of the event before the event actually gets run, then I am afraid your fear of using any private discussion platform will sadly be still used.

I propose instead to differentiate between
discords that are used for planning and hosting for the thread community these are dead and closed outside of the planning phase and is also
vs
discords that are created to replace the thread's function as the community town square where everyone is and visits to interact with everyone in the community
this takes away from the thread and even creates a disincentive to look at the thread

You'll get a better displays/lenses and the ability to run wireless with either of those.
Both have hand tracking, but in my experience, it's just a gimmick you'll rarely ever use in game.
Pico 4 Pro has face/eye tracking, so that might be the way to go for if you mainly care about VRC.
If any of that seems worth it to you, I don't see a problem with getting something now.

You see what you want to see. I often see lots of tiny little posts with interesting anons posting interesting stuff, and I don't really mind if my occasional fun little discussion with two other anons is buried between twenty angry shitposters. I'm not even noticing angry schizo posts, it's just noise, it's souring the mood in the same way a bit of mold on the wall would sour up a house party.

if you don't want to browse because all you see is "us vs them" shitposting, you've lost to a bunch of schizos who are working very hard to provoke this kind of discussions in order to make this place look worse than it is. It's often very obvious, you can often see people straight out lying about what's happening in some vrc/game instance at the moment, and then getting (You)s regardless

I can't say I've noticed a major difference in the overall mood, same anons I always see were there, same kind of general talk was going on. But I did notice one pleasant difference, I've met a newfriend and it was nice to be able to come over and hit him up with "oh hey didn't see you before, are you new?" without feeling like it's a dumb question to ask. Turned out he was indeed kinda new, and it was a nice talk. I think I'm happy about this thread-only invite idea overall, it's a good balance between trying to make it more of 'our thing' and reckless cringe-looking rando hunting with angry screeches and kick votes

If the Beyond and others can survive in the marketspace of ~$1000 targeting enthusiasts I think it'll do just fine. I'm interested in if they're looking at having it be able to do PC things as a standalone with AR displays and whatnot- that's an untapped market, as all other standalones are on closed software. With the one compact-ish headset you've got both a laptop and a huge multiscreen display.

Wireless but you cam connect it to a PC, probably wireless but maybe with a cable. While being a VR headset, it also seems to be some form of quasi steam deck where instesd if a handheld with a screen, it's a hesdset where you project a large display and play the steamdeck titles flat in VR.
>>515931889
This is a fear, but Valve still have a very large base of installed users with LH, and those people love it. Bigscreen beyond and MeganeX also don't produce their own Lighthouses but still release headsets with LH tracking.
LH tracking / SteamVR native tracking is a dealbreaker for me.

Never.
It will never have both. LH adds a extra $100 or so to the cost of a headset when you have perfectly good set of cameras.

Without eyetracking it's dead. That's the main feature to look for. Eyetracking, good screens, good audio and it's a winner. Plus no fucking dealbreakers like non replaceable cable or something stupid. if you can get a bracket to screw a tracker to that's honestly plenty for LH tracking requirements.

Plus, unless you want to spend 20 hours setting up shapes in blender yourself, you're limited to only the faces that already are set up for it.

I know one anon who really, really makes face tracking work. Glancing around instead of looking at you only adds to his expression because it's part of his personality, and then he somewhat made his avatar work really well with face tracking most likely by making slightly different faces than what he makes IRL, but can't promise you that. He uses very wide-open eyes in resting face, and then when he half-closes them, it makes for a meaningful expression, and his mouth is also somehow working really well. Also had a fun moment when one face-tracked anon was trying to be serious and kinda pretend to be offended, but then he couldn't contain a little smile that slipped through his face-tracked avatar. I dunno, I feel where you're coming from (half of the time, face tracking results in very mild expressions that don't fit anime faces at all) but I also saw very, very impressive exceptions, nearly impressive enough to make me buy a face tracked headset myself. I hope it'll get more popular, and get better implementations of technology through time, both in tracking and in avatars.

And putting it on just a sphere or something will not cause it to render for everyone everywhere?
Recommendations for screen space shaders?

>>515974992
For example some worlds taking in game pictures. Then you can hold your camera to it and it only shows the picture instead of the normal world view

oh, right. I think cancer space has one for that.

https://github.com/AkaiMage/VRC-Cancerspace
It has an option to only render the screenspace effect within whatever mesh you apply it to, so putting it on a sphere will only show the effect in that sphere.

Stop being a soccer mom, I guess?
It's up to the people to do whatever they want. If you don't like it, don't associate with people like that. It really is that easy.
You don't need to be "loud" about anything.

In the current thread I'm seeing the opposite, people got defensive over a single mention of someone becoming an ERPer
2/3s of the examples >>515966838 gave were about proteus changing long term behaviour and avatars homogenizing into to ERP-ready booths.

For fbf maybe but thread instances are thread instances for a reason.

https://booth.pm/en/items/4848817 has the prefab for the camera sphere itself if you want it. It has a few nice options over the naive screenspace UV shader, like fixing aspect ratio.

This is some strange historical revisionism. Whenever I get people (and I have been vetting since 2018) I have always asked if they are from 4chan. Not if they are from the thread.

Is anyone else here too much of a wimp for horror games? I can't bear to be more than 15 minutes in a VR horror on my own.

Where does this misunderstanding come from? I don't do this, nobody does this. But I like this thread, and I don't want to spend time around people who hate this thread and look down on me for using it, and come here just once every 6 months to shit it up for entertainment. God forbid. No issue otherwise with visitors who use 4chan but generally not this thread, they're technically not /vrg/ though
