Hi, since today is the first Thursday of the month, it's time for the "Monthly Board Game".
As usual, the session will be at 22:30CET/21:30UTC (~2h50 from now)
(You) will have to choose between:
> Fillit
A modern abstract strategy game centered around position/path control. Move your pawn and place your chips to win
(Rules: https://whatsericplaying.com/2020/03/02/fillit/, World: https://vrchat.com/home/world/wrld_0344f043-fc37-49b5-b424-03b7911e56ba)
> Backgammon
One of the oldest board game in the world. A 1v1 strategy game with some randomness to it.
(Rules: https://www.bkgm.com/rules.html, World: https://vrchat.com/home/world/wrld_a17543a2-04ed-4864-aa98-5ac4977ff543)
> HighSpeedChess
What if chess becomes an RTS? Another VRChat original game, it has a demo video in world link
(rules: in-game; world: https://vrchat.com/home/world/wrld_865496e7-9b52-439d-9068-2fcc6598250f/info)

Anyway another late announcement for /DinnerCircle/ (on Part 43) for this Saturday the 8th at 7pm ET. This time its Breakfast for Dinner, a classic mix up to change things up from the norm. Whether its vodka and a cigarette, coffee and a cigarette, or just sunshine and a cigarette. But remember, you can bring anything, you'll just be judged. This is hosted in vrc. Join info/link will be posted just before its starts. /DinnerCircle/ does NOT endorse the use of cigarettes

I don't understand why anyone feels the need to "identity" as /vrg/ if they don't use the thread. I guess it's the belief that they are the true /vrg/ that diverged from the now corrupt thread or something. The reality is that they get more personal benefit from exclusive discord servers, but won't admit this and have to attribute blame to the thread to avoid appearing as hypocrites.

Most people who are /vrg/ were 4chan since long before /vrg/ existed, and I see very few people who exclusively associate themselves to /vrg/ and not the rest of 4chan as a whole. Because they feel like 4chan isn't the community they knew anymore they are driven to more curated communities like Discord where they can feel a little more at home, and then when people in the thread piss and moan about nobody using the thread or "discord niggers" that just drives them away even harder.

tl;dr: honestly who fucking cares, if the people are good that's what matters, stop bitching about who does or doesn't shitpost here.

I care. I care for those who actually wish to be 4chan and continually use 4chan instead of discord.

A place/location/group can only exist if the people who frequent it are there. /vrg/ will cease to exist if people post in discord instead. The same is true for 4chan as a whole.

This truth is why I am very fond of anons who continue to post here with me. This is why I care

My opinion on that is always about how we use the tool of discord.

Being able to differentiate between discord usage that kills the thread vs compliments the thread.
A discord that tries to replace the function of the thread as our home and public square where every anon drinks from as a communal watering hole is cancer.
Using discord to message among close friends or organizing is fine imo.

The thread’s function needs to be maintained and not competed against if it is to survive.

Well the thing you have to remember about that is this was never the thread in this community. That's in VR. We go to VR for our public square. Thread is off-hours discussion largely, or finding/sharing new games and gauging interest in getting groups together.
Anonymous No.516793171 Replies: >>516793648
>>516792730
Not quite. VR is too limited and can’t function as a public square where anyone can hear everyone’s voice.
An instance is limited to 80 and when it was jan 2018 having 24 people in an instance is certain lag. Functionally instance max was 30 back in the days

The thread is amazing in this because even at 800+ anons strong lurkers can catchup with people if they so choose to lurk or post.

The community of /vrg/ quite literally started when someone thought of starting the generals and anons who saw it slowly trickled in and joined in on the fun.
Anonymous No.516793192 Replies: >>516794280
My problem with promoting thread use is that it brings in people who didn't use 4chins before, and then they think that the point of anonymity is to drop their cringe drama without getting identified rather than have an objective, civilized discussion without being perceived as a specific person
My problem with not promoting the thread is that there's a lower chance of getting nice, constructive anons, and then all that's left is drama schizos

But I don't see a problem for now. I use both thread and discord, and I can't think of any game I've joined through discord because it wasn't posted here. Seems to me like everything worth my attention is present in thread, and I've developed a mental filter through shitposting twenty years ago already so I can live with mentally ill people screeching around, it's also an issue that increasingly affects internet as a whole rather than just this place. Whatever, we're good no matter what happens.

Threads aren’t communities until it’s a continuous thread imo. Sporadic threads not reaching thread cap and months in-between threads isn’t quite commmunity tier.

Ehhhh I attribute the community in the thread more to every anon who joined in and continued to post in the thread when it started. A tourist can start the /vrg/ thread for all I care as an example. In 4chan you wouldn’t really know someone mostly. The anons who stuck through are the community like how a country are people who keep staying in that country. A tourist only comes by for a bit then leaves.

Some more udcrap glove testing. The bottom left window is their own hand pose monitor and right is vrchat. They did update their software so the alignment is a little better; the hand angle in steamvr/vrchat is still off but it probably depends on avatar and hand size. The tracking is still pretty reliable and fast even though it doesn't cover the full range of motion, i.e. for splay it does sort of track index and pinky splay separately but it mostly ends up a single value per hand; again no vulcan salute possible. The top right window is the controller emulation, where bending the thumb in counts as a touchpad touch, index is trigger and the other 3 fingers are grip.

The tracking does drift, though I'm not sure how fast it happens yet; taking the gloves on and off does freak it out more than just wearing them. The recalibration takes 10 seconds and is fairly easy to do, but of course still annoying, and affects the reliability of the controller emulation.

I've spent some more time messing around with them and have a more nuanced opinion now. Still wouldn't recommend it and I can write up something more complex but after getting all the solvesble issues out of the way it is shaping up way better than my first day with it.

Also did a piano test. The sticky fingertips are very annoying. I temporarily mitigated it by covering them with little squares of electrical tape; it helps quite a bit. I dunno if I'll end up cutting off the tips completely yet but I'm getting close. Full video with sound:

https://file.vrg.party/udcap-piano-2025-03-06.mp4

It's.. okay, but requires more effort to fix the wrist alignment. And even with smooth fingertips it's still hard to play with gloves on (plus coping with the bigmeme which has neither passthrough or a nose gap to cheat with). Also my piano is in a corner of my playerspace that the tundra trackers don't quite like (hand glitches out a few times).

On the bright side though, it is nice to be able to play piano adequately, with equally adequate tracking, without having to do anything that special, and still retaining full VR control. I did not try the meme pianos with unity physics in vrchat, but they would be slightly easier to play for sure, and then wouldn't also have to do all the extra autism for midi and audio routing.

For comparison here's tracking using mediapipe's ML model (through xr animator) with a regular cheap webcam mounted above the keyboard:

https://file.vrg.party/xranimator-piano-unity-2024-08-16%2017-49-54.mp4

Not perfect but a lot better and a lot easier to play without gloves on. Downside is you can only play piano and requires a lot more autism to get synchronized with vrc proper (have to emulate controllers and shit from the VMC protocol output; feasible I don't think the software for this is actually built yet).

So overall I don't think it's worth it for instrumentfags. I am bad at guitar so I can't test but I'm sure you'd run into pretty much the same issues. Mayybe cutting off the fingertips will help but you'll still be playing with a handicap. Stick to camera hand tracking of some sort.

Probably not doable for the most part because you need more than your fingertips for string muting and bar chords. Someone mentioned to me that some company is working on a wrist-mounted thing that measures your tendons instead, which seems like a neat idea.

I don't think that'd work. It's not easy to turn midi into believable finger pose and animation between poses, even with hand pose grounded with wrist trackers, and even if you got it working well, you still lose out on tracking when you're not strictly playing notes (waving or gesturing or whatever). Straight pose estimation has the large benefit of other people training the models. Honestly, quest 3 hand tracking is probably pretty well on the pareto frontier of "good enough tracking and easy enough integration with vrchat" too, but I don't have one. If anyone does have one and a piano, you should post a video. I'm interested to see well it works.

I was going to make the point that without a good dataset of midi and ground truth hand pose, there's no way you're going to beat the bitter lesson of camera hand pose models, but turns out the chinks delivered https://agnjason.github.io/PianoMotion-page/ last year, neat. I'll give it a try sometime.

NA HOURS BONELAB/DRUNK LATE NIGHT EU BONELAB WILL HAPPEN TONIGHT AT 9PM ET (3AM CET)

>how do I set up?
Follow https://rentry.org/bonerlabeu, be not afraid, it's not nearly as bad as it looks like. If you can start the game after setting it up, you can see bonemenu, fusion, and you either have a good save with everything unlocked or at least you've downloaded one from rentry, you're good. I'll host a server 30min before start, then you can try joining and see if everything works fine - otherwise, write a post with a problem and I'll try to help.
>I don't have an avatar
There are some generic default booths to choose from, and TF2/MG Rising avatars if you prefer that.
>what do you even do in there
Funny physics screwing around, some deathmatch, building all kinds of dorky machines and structures, sometimes violently murdering each other.

MODPACKS:

We'll be using last week's ones. If you're new, you need to download both, most of the stuff goes into AppData\LocalLow\Stress Level Zero\BONELAB\Mods, .dll files go into steamapps\common\BONELAB\Mods.

if you're even mildly interested, push yourself through it and give it a shot. Whether you'll end up liking it or not, I think our little pretend gmod VR is worth experiencing at least once

"First of all, we want to extend a heartfelt thank you for your incredible support throughout our prelaunch campaign. Your enthusiasm and feedback have been our driving force, inspiring us to push the boundaries of what eye-tracking can do for immersive experiences.

Over the past three years, we at Inseye have been on a mission to develop eye-tracking technology that’s not only powerful but also highly accessible and simple to integrate into immersive experiences. We started from rethinking hardware used for eye-tracking —keeping it simple, cost-effective, and reliable—then paired it with AI software ensuring accuracy in real-world conditions. We tested these early iterations on platforms like VRChat, built dev kits for the Pico Neo 3, and even developed a working prototype for the Quest 3, all while gathering invaluable insights and refining our approach.

Our journey has taken us to events like as AWE US, AWE Singapore or Photonics West, where we had the pleasure of sharing our work with the broader community and industry leaders. They appreciated our focus on low power usage, minimal form-factor and cost-effectiveness—qualities that perfectly match the needs of today’s smart eyewear landscape. With AR / AI smartglasses expanding at an incredible pace and new possibilities emerging every day, we recognized that our technology is ideally suited to meet these growing demands.

Seeing this opportunity, we decided to shift our focus toward integrating our eye-tracking solution into augmented reality devices and AI smartglasses. We are now working closely with clients who are preparing to bring next-generation smart eyewear to the market, integrating our technology to unlock new level of user experience and contextual AI capabilities.

Because of this exciting new direction—and because we’re still a startup with limited resources—we’ve chosen to pause Inseye Lumi project for the time being. Please know this doesn’t mean we’re giving up on VR. We remain convinced VR has massive potential, and we plan to revisit our VR projects when the time and resources are right.

We truly value your support and feedback, and we want to keep you in the loop as we continue on this journey. Please stay tuned for updates—your insights will be invaluable when our product hits the market, and we are committed to keeping you informed about milestones we achieve."

You can easily implement it right now if you want, even without any 3rd party support.
Implementing support of varjo extensions and forcing users to install 3rd party shit is still meh.
Runtime should just provide proper eye tracking support, you can implement everything on top of it, if the headset supports eye tracking, you should be fucking using it for input too, not only to optimize rendering, so you have to figure out how everything works regardless.

tldr; we need proper eyetracking first and foremost, in all hmd's, not just 1.5 total, everything else will come later.
software wise, it's easier than shadow maps, need hardware rn

Not gonna lie, lots of my vidya time is sim racing, so I'm concerned about streaming rather than being leashed in general. If this thing is worse than average, then this is bit of a concern to me. How is ALVR bad?

>controllers
What stops me from using Knuckles with it?

>3.5k
Yeah, that's where I consider myself retarded, but I've got some spare cash on the side and honestly, spending big money once on PC/vidya hardware usually yields good results. But I'm googing through for many things now, face tracking quality is bit of a big deal to me (given the price point, it better not do lazy shit like qpro having single-axis in/out tongue switch that gets triggered at random), and if apple would somehow break this ALVR compatibility at some point, i'd just go ahead and kill myself out of shame for being dumbass enough to fall for it.

>you will need a mac

No, it's completely standalone, you don't even need a phone like with quest. But if you want to write software for it / compile things, you will need a mac.
>What stops me from using Knuckles with it?

Sir let me welcome you to the year 2025, the only people who go to The Black Cat anymore are desktoppers and children screaming on their Quest devices.
It is probably the worst public lobby map in the game because of the amount of children.

Why do most VRChat players decide to just basically do jack shit and either plainly talk to people or RP/ERP/LARP with each other instead of actually playing the actual games like Prison Escape or Murder 4 or Trash Compactor?
The top level/game with the most instances is always The Black Cat (a level with nothing to do besides looking in mirrors and "talking" to degenerates) where 20 people with mostly anime avatars and NSFW gooner avatars are bugged into a mirror like flies stuck to a sticky trap.
Worst case scenario is that one of those gooners will be wearing an avatar so poorly optimized that it will turn your game into an unplayable single digit FPS slideshow, and it being a single digit is me being generous about it, because in reality its more like under 1 FPS/1 frame every 4 seconds.

The NSFW gooner avatars are already degenerate enough, what makes it worse is that literal children who are under the age of 13 play this game commonly, and will be exposed to the degenerate troon EPI and will probably get groomed into becoming those very VRChat gooner degenerates

Simply chatting to people is fine, although you hear barely anything from them because there are like 20 other people talking at the same time at full volume and 5 autistic retards screaming thinking that its funny. So when you do decide to chat with people, it feels like you're doing nothing because you cant hear them nor can they hear you even if you're using a high quality mic (I use a PSVR 2 on PC and the mic quality sample rate is surprisingly high quality)

Gooners with horny NSFW avatars, poorly optimized avatars that turn the game into a slideshow, unintelligibility due to hearing the 20 people taking all at once, general discord degenerates, anime avatars, meme avatars, kids under the age of 13, etc. VRChat is an absolute mess filled with mostly gooner troon degenerates and hopefully on-average slightly autistic schizos with meme avatars and at-most "normal" people-

Vive trackers or Tundra trackers require you to use Lighthouses to track them, Vive Ultimate Trackers can be tracked standalone but i havent heard great things about them considering their price.
Haritora trackers and Slime trackers are also standlaone and much cheaper, but again not as good quality.
So it all depends on how much youre willing to spend.
You will have to use this to sync the playspaces as nothing will work natively with the PSVR2: https://store.steampowered.com/app/3368750/Space_Calibrator/

Also, fair warning: I'll be accepting avatars for no more than next hour, because I want to give everyone time to download them. If you won't get one done in time, just chill in one of many avatars present in a pack.

I'm new to VR and wanted to try VRChat to get over my fear of social interaction, but so far I can't bear to be around others let alone say a word. I thought everything being virtual might make things easier but I guess I thought wrong.

Does anyone have any advice or similar experiences? Or maybe some world recommendations? I'm starting to feel that I'm too far gone.

Just go up to a small group and say hi, comment on comment on someone's avatar, crack a joke. You're probably not too autistic for this. It's a cliche response, but a little liquid courage can help too, if you're into that sort of thing.

It's worth remembering that people get on social vr specifically to meet and talk to people. Not every experience will be positive, but don't let every awkward moment or unreceptive person/group discourage you. It's not a judgement of your value as a person, as even well adjusted people strike out from time to time. Some crowds are just too cliquey or maladjusted themselves to be receptive to anyone outside their usual circlejerk.

be brave, push on, and remember everyone on vrc is as weird or probably weirder than you are

I know you're maliciously trolling, but never do this. You're training yourself to expect particular results from particular behavior which will only lead further confusion and frustration when you're thrown a curve ball. Not to mention, people can tell you're being inauthentic, evaluation has trained the brain to detect it on a subconscious level. This shit would send someone into an unrecoverable sperge death spiral.

you have to talk with them and show them who you are first; hence, the flowchart. You don't need to use social tricks if you practice talking with people by relying on the flowchart when you need an idea of what to do next

I did say booze as a semi meme answer, but the real answer is that its something you have to work on and get used to it over time. Booze helps but at the end of the day, being social is a skill, and like every other skill its something you have to practice. Just introduce yourself for a start, it helps a lot when people know that you're "one of us" and not some random +1 extra.

You're lucky enough to be here where you can take things slow, all you have to do is show up to various events and you'll fit in soon enough.

If you can get oast the awkwardness, its worth it! people here are great.

I have 1 "real" friend with VR
he's got the typical thirdie opinions on VR
>ugh it's uncomfortable
>it runs bad, no i won't try downloading anything or changing any settings
>it's a gimmick
if I ask if he wants to play a VR game i might've just as well asked if I could stab him with a rusty blade, the way he recoils in horror.
ironically, he loves VRC, it reminds him of GMOD. so if i ever do convince him to put on his headset it's for that and just about that only.
The whole time we're in VRC he'll complain that
>this isn't good enough
>there should be better X
if I point out VRC is a social lobby and if he wants to play a game we could play Y he spergs out
I think the truth is he blows ass at aiming a real gun instead of using m+kb and he refuses to learn...or he's too fat or something. His room being a mess is not an excuse after 6 months

If it's something private or revealing in nature or someone is streaming a meetup publicly to a group of people then I think that's a different issue and not cool.

EU Assetto Corsa: European Racing club
Race 92

19:00 UTC 20:00 CET, 17th of March 2025.

Japanese AWD time. We're going to Okayama Grand Prix with trusty Toyota Celicas. Turbo whine, flooring it on grass, powersliding, we'll have it all.

1 hour practice
12 minutes qualifiers
8 laps race

Afterwards, we're going all the way back to the old europe with some driveable cigars.

Assetto - can be played with wheel, controller, or steam-vr-wheel addon, it doesn't matter, we will all have fun driving together. If you just bought Assetto - grab Assetto Corsa Content Manager - a better launcher and mod manager: https://assettocorsa.club/content-manager.html To install mods: just drag and drop zip files from mega onto the Content Manager windows and click on the hamburger menu on top right. Highly recommend installing stable custom shader patch and 7-zip plugin in Content manager.

For communication we'll use mumble at voice.vrg.party port 64738, as it doesn't need any registrations or logins.
https://www.mumble.info/

I can't recommend enough Crew Chief
https://thecrewchief.org/
He's a helpfull AI fellow in the pits who'll provide you information about your car, your opponents, yell at you or try to encourage you. And most importantly, he will spot for you, in case you have a car in you blind spot.

UI radar are immersion breaking and basically cheating, but this guy will tell you verbally if someone is there on your right. Download, install, select Assetto Corsa in game list, press "Start application" and it should work!

thanks anon but i know already
the cutie mutie shoebill on the right was one of my friends that i recorded a lot of
mostly because they had great fbt anime girl body language
back in the day i used to worry a little bit that i was bothering them
but completely out of the blue they contacted me last year and asked if i had any old screenshots of them because they never took any of their own and they wanted to look back at their time in vr

so i went through my archive and found every webm with them in it and dumped it on them
they were overjoyed to say the least and thanked me for recording all of them ^_^

i will probably upload all the old webms sometime somewhere but they all exist in the archives anyway :3c

I'll be there! Also a reminder to go into Content Manager > Content > Tools > Compress and get around to compressing all your files every once in a while. I'm sat waiting for it to finish as I'm running it for the first time but it's already doing the Lord's work.

That's one option, we also have autospawners as props and those things work reasonably well as far as I remember. It's just that zombies won't aggro unless they see an enemy, so it's a bit tricky in terms of what maps would and would not work.

Eating in VR with Quest is basically cheating.
Here is my sausage, ham, smoked gouda omelet and blueberry pancake, with glass of whole milk

I have more hours spent working on Sparking Zero models in blender than I have hours spent playing it.

let's be honest
the game is ok, but is just to play a bit, do the story mode, the "what if" or alternative stories, do online matchmaking and get frustrated due to tryharders, and do the community fights which some are extremely hilarious.
but yeah, after finishing the story of each character, it doesn't have much replayability
also ssj4 is canon

meshes have never been my thing but i have extracted audio files from games before
however i've ended up with a few preserved game builds over time such as
mobius pc (unity) (final)
uma musume mobile (unity) (oct 2022)
fate/grand order arcade (103 characters)
