I might be alone but even default unmodded this game feels leagues better than Pavlov. The shooting and movement is extremely fluid.

I've played both for 6 or more years and Contractors looks and feels like absolute shit - pretty much asset flip quality. They've essentially remade the entire game twice since launch and never really improved the lighting, sounds, inventory, animations, weapon handling, etc. While some things are better, they actually made other things worse over time. The skill ceiling is just spray at the enemy first, which is probably why some like it more because there's little difference between 10 and 1000 hours of experience. Despite all that, the variety of mods keeps me joining lobbies. I would never play vanilla Contractors again without a massive update.

I wouldn't go as far as saying it's absolute shit, but I agree contractors has always felt worse to me than dave's game. There's some level of jank with the chest rig and grabbing/throwing interactions that makes it slightly unpleasant to play. Full disclosure though: I really like Seethe & Dilate and I've played a lot of pavlov, so some of it comes down to familiarity with the particular way dave made the gun rig and grenade throwing. I do like some little things contractors does too like the ninja slide on crouch though. And weirdly I actually quite like the way exfil zone feels; slowing down the game to extraction shooter speed seems to match the feel well in a way that contractor's cawadooty-ish default feel (plus the literal MW2 mod) don't.

The other shooty game that filtered me is H3VR. It's just too janky and precise to be fun. I do really like the quick bolt thing it has though, I wish pavlov had that for bolt actions.

Is VR just not for me?

I'm using a Quest 2 with the bobovr strap and I can barely get the helmet on comfortable, but no matter what I do, I can't seem to get the lens focus to line up where the imagine isn't blurry. Its clear sometimes when I push the headset against my face really hard but its hard to do that with long hair, and even when I do, its only really makes the very center of the view clear.

Are my eyes at some sort of odd distance from each other that it'll forever be impossible to get them to focus in on my eyes uncomfortably? One of my eyes is messed up and blurry, but I don't think that is the issue.

Since you can occasionally get one eye to be clear I'm going to assume you don't just need glasses. There are a lot of people suddenly discovering they are slightly near-sighted when they first use VR.
What is your IPD? See image for how to measure.
The Quest 2 and 3S are especially cursed in the IPD department, as they only have 3 steps to choose from, but unless you're an absolute hammerhead it shouldn't be /that/ bad.
Finally, remove the facial interface completely and see if you can find a position where you see clearly.
The stock facial interface is a case of one-size-kinda-sotra-maybe-fits-some-people, so depending on your face it is entirely possible that the headset just refuses to sit at the right angle. There are many third-party choices, including flexible ones that mold a bit better to your face.

The updates to the two games have been completely incomparable. I don't think there's anything that was better about Pavlov in its early days, but the same is not true of Contractors. While it has improved, there's a lot of things they've made worse for no reason.

Nah they ARE the bases that people customize for themselves, it's just there's a bunch to choose from. If you wanna be "unique" while also being newish to blender and unity then go for a less used base. There's so many good ones that no one uses at all

Depends. Many avatars now use some sort of shared base body, but otherwise when outfits are released they tend to come with support for a variety of avatars bases, just based off whatever the outfit creator found fitting. If your avatar isn't supported you can always PICK IT UP and manually fit an outfit in blender, in the end everything is just mesh data and weightpainting and you have complete freedom to modify it.

Here's an outfit that the outfit creator supports a fuckload of avatars for. He did this by adjusting the armature and mesh for each one (and letting the body hiding shape keys prevent clipping), and you can do the same for any outfit and avatar if you're willing to do the work.

I have 2 possible deals for me:
- Pico 4 refurbished for 250 euros
- Pico 4 Ultra for 410 euros (+2 motion trackers that I'm not sure if I will use)

I expected easy slow ride, as it usually is. But Kenya is just something, combination of straights, sudden hard turns, extreme bumpiness of the track and random rocks made it WAY more intense than I could have ever imagined.

If your co-pilot says DON'T CUT, then DO NOT CUT, even with suspension height to the maximum, rocks WILL FLIP you. On straights and downhills these cars reach speeds they were never designed for. It's a really a thrill. Be very carefull. Also you need to try to keep RPM high, you don't have enough power and starting on first gear - you might even want to half clutch it. I'm glad I took the 5 geared Opel instead of 4 gear Mini or Lancia.

I don't know what to tell you. It might not look like it, but VR doesn’t have a huge install base and is far from mainstream, for better or worse.
This also means that only those who are really driven will even touch the idea of making VR games. Most games that started as VR exclusives were such flops that they added a flat version afterward (Demeo, Sushi Ben is next from what I’ve heard, even the “we’ve got VA-11 Hall-A at home” VR VN Project Mix has already announced a flat release). The list goes on.
There are no polished AAA style games with very, very, very few exceptions and those are laughably short.

You might have more luck checking VR mods for existing games. Outer Wilds, GTFO, Risk of Rain 2, Half-Life 2, Valheim, and most likely some others I don’t remember have very competently made VR mods.

Turns out v1 base stations actually have a range limit of 5.5 meters apart. Beyond that SteamVR gives a warning, they jitter around, and the headset loses tracking constantly, even at just 6 meters.

SteamVR is such a flaming piece of garbage.
The deckard is going hard so fucking hard with the current state of that shitware.
I launch a second application which uses openxr and instead of putting the first application's session into IDLE state until the seconds one exists, it EXIT's the session the first right away. Okay, it's stupid, but I can deal with it, no problem, I will just make the openxr thread sleep and check from time to time until the child exe stops then restart the session manually.
Or so I thought, turns out SteamVR goes out of its way to manually KILL the first exe. Nobody gave a single fuck that maybe I'm doing something fucking important in the first exe. It just killed it.
And even that killing doesn't work properly. If you launch the same exe twice, it still kills the first one but the second iteration will never render anything. It will switch to FOCUSED state, but nothing will be visible in the head, just the steamvr environment.
And after that you can launch even more iterations, and then you have multiple applications in the FOCUSED, which is massive violation of the specs. But only up to 3, on 4th all processes just freeze.
And that's ignoring the good old never ending spam of validation errors in their runtime code.

I hate valve, I hate steamvr.

While the short answer is use https://github.com/vrchat-community/template-package, put your editor script into the package/Editor instead of assets and click some buttons in github to run the workflow, it's pretty fragile and easy to break something.

I think it could still work but the implementation will be more finnicky. The collider being thinner when legs are close together is fine and if you position it correctly in the parent game object it will move backwards as it scales up which should be fine since normally you are concerned with the front physbones.

There's a knack for what questions to ask, I'd say start small at first, very general stuff where they can expand on what they're talking about and give you an 'in' so to speak. Anxiety is probably the most limiting factor to a lot of this so again alcohol (though I do want to say don't become an alcoholic like me). The book itself is definitely worth reading and is only like 80 pages long (and available in full online for free) so give it a read, don't take it as gospel but as advise and you'll at least have some insight I think.

One I remember in particular they had sim racists try both back to back and give their thoughts.

In terms of "feelings of being there" it matters most for open wheels. For caged cars there isn't much difference between the two.
Speaking of latency, making VR perform good is a pain in the ass and you've got to have top tier hardware.
About comfort, triples are better for endurance races. I sweat a lot and use the silicone pad on my Quest 3 but it's comfortable for max 45 minutes.
If you want, you can set up a green screen to see your devices through VR if you need it, but again it's yet another thing to set up.
I'm still fine with the Q3 because it doesn't need an awful amount of room like triples.
The worst thing for me is the setup for low latency. I hope the next generation will have an easy way to do it, like DP cable instead of USB.

I've beat half life 1, 2, 2e1 and 2e2 in VR
half life 1 was best outright
half life 2 was fantastic, gaben is a genius
2e1 and 2e2 were too short in VR and when they were first released on orange box

Now im playing Half Life Alyx immediately after and I have to say, It looks great but so did half life 2, so did half life 1. Half Life Alyx is a much higher performance heavy on my machine as well, very long load times which is rather unacceptable in VR. Half Life 1 and 2 we're so smooth and good. We don't need the fluff in VR to be fully immersed in a game. Half Life 2 was perfect blend of performance. Seriously underrated series. That's all for now.
