The Idol Grand Prix is returning for 2026, and (You) are officially invited!

For our newfriends, this event is our ultimate talent showcase where our own anons from across the world sing, dance, and dazzle in front of a live virtual audience.

This year, we have three exciting ways to participate:

-Compete to become /vrg/'s Top Idol! Show off a live performance, music video, or mix of both and try to take home the prize. This year will also have a Best Debut award for the greatest performance by a first-timer.

-Become a /vrg/ All-Star! Sing a few lyrics of a song and submit a model of your avatar, and the /vrg/ Idol team will animate you into a music video alongside your fellow All-Stars.

-Submit a world prop! Create a custom model or poster to be used as a prop in the contest world.

What is this?
A celebration of anon’s varied groups and activities.
For one day /vrg/ turns into a full blown school festival, with rooms, booths, attractions and little corners of chaos all hosted by the different groups and friend circles around the community.

Come wander the grounds and visit what anons have cooked up.
Games, exhibits, hangouts, performances, themed rooms, comfy spots, weird ideas, good ideas, dumb ideas made real.
The whole point is to let every part of /vrg/ show its face and make something fun for everyone else to enjoy.

If you’ve ever wanted to host something, decorate a room, run a booth, make a club attraction, show off your group’s gimmick or just contribute to the general festival atmosphere, this is the event for it.
Big or tiny projects, polished or scuffed projects, they all have a place in a school festival.

This is both a social event and a showcase.
A chance to see what all the different corners of /vrg/ are up to, meet people you don’t normally bump into and enjoy an entire map full of anon-made activities all in one place.

Specially if you are currently or have hosted weekly/monthly/occasional events before and currently!
COME AND SHILL, Grow your club, Entice another anon to try what you love doing!

"YosaVR" is the combination of "Yosakoi" and VR. Yosakoi is a (modern) japanese folk dance style, which often relies on using accessories.
With "YosaVR", we aim to actively learn dance routines; first we'll learn some actual yosakoi routines, but I'm planning to eventually mix it with other types of dances/songs later on.

This time I'll try to also host it regularly on Thursdays while keeping the "dojo format". In my opinion it is much harder than both PyPy or ParaPara, so if you want to become good at it, you will most likely need to train outside of the regular Thursday instances.

silverfag here. My hand is seriously fucked up. I'm using liltoon. If I turn off every shading setting except for my normal map, it looks fine, but any sort of shading or lighting effect will do this to me. This is a little out of my depth. Does anybody know where I should look?

Try clearing custom split normals under the Data tab -> Geometry Data

If it looks all flat and blocky afterwards do Mesh -> Shade Smooth (its not autosmoothing, just switches your normals from flat shading to smooth shading)

You may want to separate your hand first before you do this though otherwise you'll be getting rid of the custom split normals on the rest of your model which may be needed to achieve better lighting on the face for example.

I tried the auto smoothing that AI suggested. It actually worked. But, it gives a sort of sharp line effect to the shading around the fingers. Not sure if I like that.

unity might be recalculating the normals in the fbx import settings (though I'd expect a different look if that were the case).

Also if you don't mind going full slop, use your agent of choice (clod code, codex, etc) and point it at your avatar and ideally the original avatar model/prefab zip you're using. It'll be able to do a precise diff of what could've accidentally changed in your scene/model/import settings from the original.

Usually the VRChat SDK will warn you about something with legacy blendshapes if its fucking up your model like that and it comes with an Auto-Fix button you just click to fix it.

This doesn't seem right, the armature shouldn't have extra bones between those as far as I know. Not sure if that's the root cause, I never tried doing that, but this is one thing that looks suspicious to me. The armature should follow ordinary parenting like what you see in any other avatar around, and then extra bones should be parented to another "main", so for example in your arm situation I'd expect

Okay; there some roll bones in your structure. If you look at the unity bone structure on the right, they all need to be directly chained together. EG: Hips -> Spine -> (optional) chest -> (opt) upper chest -> (opt) hshoulder -> Upper arm -> lower arm -> hand -> handbones...
You've got a roll bone in your arm chain that is disturbing this flow. That's causing the upper arm and hands mapping to error out.
As for the feet mapping, Hartd to tell from the image but upper leg should be directly from hips, check it's not on spine or something

Grab any working VRC avatar (you can find free ones on booth) and check through armature, then make your avatar follow the same pattern in blender. Bones are inside other bones, that's bone parenting, and in your case upper arm is not a direct child of lower arm, so in my opinion this is probably what causes your problems. You can, for example, add more bones to upper arm as children, but you cannot add a bone between upper arm and lower arm, since those two are "main" bones of sorts.

Monado with bsb2/4090. Steamvr's renderer has bad tearing/vsync artifacts. Which maybe are solvable but monado + xrizer works great so I haven't bothered. Technically I'm still using steamvr's lighthouse tracking impl though, since libsurvive doesn't quite work well enough yet.

My visual cortex's motion detection is among the top 1% in the world, so I notice very strong PWM flicker in my peripheral vision when I play games with bright backgrounds (like Superhot).

I know what pwm is, but vr hmds are strobed at refresh rate frequency, they run at like 10% duty cycle. 90Hz mode litterally strobes at 90 Hz. Except few but instead they have motion blur instead. If you can see hmd sttobing, or crt strobing, its not gonna get better, unless we get like 240 Hz hmds (unlikely)
