To the anon who was helping me with this the other day, I decided to pick it back up and I feel like I'm pretty close now, the only issue is this annoying white smoke that rapidly pops in and out at a completely different speed than the rest of the effect. Slowing it down only makes it worse, as the purple/blue slows down, but the white smoke remains the same speed.

Yeah the grey flashes are tracking loss, but that can be due to controller/headset occlusion, the base stations losing communication with each other (which is what the cable helps with), USB controller saturation, or CPU overload.
If you use the cable make sure you hit the button on the back of the base stations to set one to mode A and one to mode B.

If you set vertex group names to be the same as bone names it'll automatically weight paint the vertices for you.

You can go into edit mode and select all the faces you only want to select, then go into weight paint mode and there should be a little checkermark looking button that makes it so you can only affect those vertices that were selected. You can also use this in conjunction with CTRL+I to invert your selection so you instead weight paint everything else, which is nice for removing lots of weight painting.

Suffice it to say that some people I thought I was hitting it off with got feels for other people or were just put off by me and we're more distant now. Several times, and this keeps happening.
It wasn't an issue until V-day set out the idea that we might each find someone special who shares some mutual affection, and now it seems like I keep striking out without even realizing it.
