There's plenty of documentation. And while I don't even agree that its hard to do anything, you can't deny that what Valve has showcased with it is exceptionally powerful in a VR setting. If you want good performance and results in a single package, that's your engine.

I've now watched multiple tutorials on how to make custom emotes in unity.
So I'm planning to animate multiple different objects independent of each other and my concern is how it would affect performance like drawcalls, etc.
I don't want to be some guy that tries to impress but at the cost of bothering people.

we've gotten to sheltered from the outside community. before they changed how instances work, there were basically just public and invite instances. we would start a public instance, and toss the number in the thread. people in the thread would look up that instance number and join in, but there was an element of still being fairly open and public. especially once the instances got larger, they would move up the list and random people would join. this is how we met people like keytar, or nappa. these days, we've become an entrenched social group. there is no real "magic" to meeting random anons anymore because we already all know each other. hell, we've gotten so into this that we've even moved on to relationship drama and E-relationships.

but the moment someone who isn't vrg comes in, having jumped off a friend, they are shunned and sometimes kicked, because they dont know it's a 4chan meetup. As the other guy said, it's just pure luck and knowing when to hop. Your interactions also play a big role particularly moreso if you're solo pubbing. From my experience, I had a lot of fun with the Ro-chan Proteus avatar because the shock value from being fed a large bar of soap is golden. It's something you won't really get from vrg because everyone gets the joke and it ran it's well ran it's course in there, and I did that all by mainly staying mute. Though my normal avatar is comparatively really boring and I'm more of a stock introvert if anything so I'm only capable of headpatting people (which often gets ignored).

It's a little awkward for me to show up and everyone's talking about me leading a community discord.
I'm not 100% against the idea but it's something I am very cautious about, I don't know that it's a good idea.
The most precious thing we have as a community (after all of the great people we have) is these threads, which is why I'm always whining about how we need to not shit them up. My fear with a discord is that we take away from these threads - these threads are how we pull people into the community and a discord is not going to be able to do that. I think there may be some things that a discord would make easier (like organizing playing of other games) but I think we should be extremely cautious not to do anything to threaten the health of the threads.

I'm also not going to do anything because anonymous posters suggested it, no offense. If you have thoughts about this discord issue, talk to me about it in game or send me a message on discord and tell me how you feel about it. I'm not going to do anything that the majority of the community is against.

There are many people who split off and made their own discords entirely against the thread's voice. They exist right now, if everyone was in one place, those in their own circles would feel less inclined to hide in theirs and take part in the /vrg/ discord.
