I have this VRcover basic set

For sweat, the fake leather still soaks up some. I think it's more the feeling of the leather against my forehead makes me sweat less vs the default foam getting progressively more damp. I still sweat a lot through so the other nice feature is you can pull off the fake leather pad completely (Velcro) and rinse it, squeeze it dry, and reattach.

The kit also comes with a cotton overcover thing, which is comfy but not for sweating (gets soaked). The way it's fitted, it also covers the nose hole in the rift headset, so it might be a good thing to try if seeing out through the hole bothers you. I like being able to look down my nose at the real world though so I don't run into things, so I don't wear the cotton cover much.

Actually, I got the "standard set” which comes with two more blue foam swappable pads, but I haven't really figured out what to do with those. I think it's for if you have many people trying the same headset, for hygiene. I recommend the vrcover overall, but I'd just get the basic set if I did it again.

alright i tested it, this is a png compressed with 6 btw. Still 4k has 3 times the size. The difference is minimal and you need to be very close to see it, especially while in VR.

So much confusion over here.

The compressed images in .png or .jpg for example, is what you download. These are the textures. These files are never never too big, depending on the resolution. My 4K atlas weights about 4MB, and my transparent atlas about 6MB. Everyine who loads my avatar just downloads these 10 MB (actually less because the asset bundle further compresses the files).

Then there is the size in VRAM. Every texture of the same size weights the same. Every 4K texture uses 21.6 Mb of VRAM. Every 2K atlas 5.4 Mb of VRAM.

You should make the atlas a size that can fit all original textures without making them smaller. If a texture is 128x128, its size in the atlas should be 128x128. I can't fit everything in a 2K atlas, and the next logical step is 4K, with 4x more space. That's why I use a 4K atlas.

How much does tri count matter compared to texture size or draw calls? I know that VRAM and file size-wise, tris are cheap compared to images. But what about overall performance? Does pushing more tris through the vertex shader scale mostly linearly? What about skinned meshes? Do the skinned tris have to be pushed from the CPU to GPU every frame, or does unity do some sort of GPU skinning?

Triangles are basically free until the point where unity splits the mesh automatically (about 65k). Each mesh split has an impact on CPU load. Unity's CPU inefficiency bottlenecks everything, and skinned mesh renderers on avatars hit the CPU harder than static meshes like worlds, so the GPU will never be getting as many triangles as it can potentially handle.

I use 2k atlases despite losing detail because you literally cannot see the difference in VR.

For actual VR games, that cpu and amount of RAM should be fine I think, since the GPU is the bottleneck. Oculus has a system readiness checker thing on their website if you want another opinion, as does steam.

However, for the shitshow that is VRChat, even an OC'd i9 crumples under a mere 30 people, so depending on how potentially degenerate you think you are, you may want to upgrade your CPU after all. Single-threaded performance is key, so an i7 or better is ideal.

I reshape the clothes until they fit this naked yamakaze body.
I then have a perfectly finished PerfectNakedYama.blend which is complete to the point where i can hit export on cats and put it into unity and make it an avatar if i wanted.
Because the naked yama mesh i used to make the clothes is in the exact same pose as my PerfectNakedYama.blend it's just a case of doing weight transfer then fixing up the shoulder bone weights and it's done.
My outfits aren't frankensteins. They're literally outfits. Armature and original mesh stays the same.

most of the models i use are .xps models made for XNA and they have armatures already attached and so i manipulate that armature first, shrinking the entire thing down so either the chest, shoulders or the waist matches yamakaze's. I then manipulate individual bones like the thighs or the upper arms moving them or scaling them until the model better fits the proportios.

they're not, they end up with a lot of clipping of the skin underneath so after i weight transfer the clothes on the naked body i delete any clipping skin.
here's an example of where skin clips and i'm just going to delete that once the clothing is attached to the armature.
