Oh yeah, I also had blinking enabled in CATS. I think the eye tracking combines with the blinking shapekeys to close the eyes when you tilt your head up, I bet.

I ended up disabling blinking later, since I didn't like that that it scuffed my laugh eyes shapekeys every other screenshot. I haven't noticed my eyes closing when I tilt my head up recently, so maybe that's the "fix".

i.e. low strength and weight, so you can brush more weight by drawing over the same spot, instead of dropping a bunch of weight and having to blur it out.

I'm by no means an expert though. I've only ever weight painted my skirt twice, and it's never been great either time. It is totally worth it though, even if you do a shit job like me. Much better than dynamic bones, not even considering performance, and you don't look like an idiot when you crouch down.

For blanket weights to be attached to a bone I just go full weight and go to town.
For stuff like skirts, clothes, and joints I tend to do it by going over the same spot with low weights and then afterwards using the smooth weights command to get a nice fade.

I do like to use the face selection for weight painting as well so I don't accidentally paint something I don't have selected.

Oculus is far better for actual VR games, i.e. not VRChat, due to the controllers. The only marginal reason to go vive over rift is for waving your hips and legs around as an anime girl is _slightly_ easier and cheaper. Other than that, oculus is the way to go. It's cheaper, it's lighter, display quality is comparable or slightly better, and the controllers are so far above the vive dildos that it's not funny. Rift is king, until knuckles controllers release.

If you're willing to wait for those controllers to be released _and_ for them to reviewed positively, then there's that. But I wouldn't buy a vive currently just for that expectation. If you want VR now, get rift. If you're on the fence, wait until knuckles, then decide. It's honestly a good idea to wait still if VRChat doesn't appeal to you, because no other VR games besides beat saber really have much draw. I'd say beat saber is _almost_ worth buying VR just for it, but if you just like rhythm games, I'd say better to just get a nice DDR pad instead.

Was wondering about animations.

I noticed the default animations in the game kind of "take over" your model.

If I make an animation and have it only affect a couple visemes, will the rest of the avatar remain free to move? Or should I be looking for a different thing than just an animation.

I'm looking to change a viseme from 'State A' to 'State B' and have it remain there until I trigger a different animation to have it move from B back to A with some fanfare basically (piston powered punch).

I want to retain full body movement during the above.

Now I'm getting 60-90 at nothing and 30-15 with larger groups. This might be due to eye tracking getting fixed? However, lower spec users said they were having better results.

I ended up getting fewer loading screens due to particle spam or multiple people clustered in an area. Audio no longer seems negatively affected by lower frames.

We ran into a few bugs:
1) Audio glich happened to Youkai. Similar to how when you crash, you hear the last 5-10 seconds repeated, he was stuck like that until he reloaded the game.

2)madcat changing music with the music box caused crashing as old song wouldnt be cut off, the new song would just start playing over it.
Keytar is not all nice.


3) when sending invited to many people,it would say invite sent to the 2nd person you look at without you actually sending it. You would have to look at a 3rd person to reset the second.

4) I noticed that world music in general was off or extremely quiet , even when turned completely up.

5)Mirrors seem tp be even worse for performance than normal. I never got higher than 15 fps when looking into a mirror.

How is it getting worse every time? I am so frustrated with VRChat but there's nowhere else to go

I get very good fps almost every meetup regardless of people amount on my old sandy bridge. I just have to restart my OVRServer everytime we switch a room.

Unfortunately I have a bad habit of playing around in the obstacles with my sabers as they pass and I wasn't looking closely.

It's kind of hard to say how much of an increase we noticed in performance since we didn't exactly do any controlled tests beforehand to compare live to beta, so it could have been placebo, but I think most people I talked to including myself felt that the FPS was slightly better in the beta but not by very much. Maybe 5 fps. The more fps the merrier, but unfortunately we're still not anywhere near pre-camera update levels of performance.

I keep my tower on my desk and I turned it around 180 degrees bacm in January so I would be able to use the most of my Rift's cord. My two front mounted usbs are eternal homes to two of my vive puck dongles and I've stopped using the 3.5mm jack because i use a headset/mic that plugs in on usb. Works fairly well.

the camera isn't what killed the frames, it just happens that the stuff that kills frames was a ton of backend stuff(voice logging, biometric logging) that was added during the hotfix for the camera update. Camera update had no performance issues during beta

so here's my thoughts on the beta

I honestly couldn't really give a fuck about eye tracking being fixed for fullbody. it's nice I guess, but meaningless.

The status system is dumb, and adds nothing that great to the game outside of pandering to streamers

And then there's the performance.

Framerate has NOT improved very much at all. a 3-4 fps increase at best. the only difference is that before it was shit and unstable, and now it's shit but at least stable. The change in how avatars load makes for far fewer loading screens. the tradeoff being avatars taking longer to load is a fairly debatable tradeoff in terms of being worthwhile. Mainly changing that causes the old "mute+unmute" trick of fixing a scuffed avatar no longer function, which means you HAVE to sit through the longer avatar load so you can switch between models to fix a model with say, a scuffed face because you sat in a chair.

Also, audio players are broken, and crash the game if spammed

the last two are obviously expected kinks of an "in development" build, but in general, the whole package im not sure is worth. The performance fixes are extremely debatable in quality.

non-dynamic bones are negligible. Don't subdivide your existing bones into a billion of them, but all actual humanoid armatures + extra bits are fine in VRChat, performance-wise, compared to everything else in this shit game.

You can merge the extra bones into their parents if you aren't making them dynamic, e.g. skirt bones into hip, but it's not worth the time, unless you just really don't want to stare at them in blender when doing later edits..

If you really still want to do this (you can just change the poly limit in your SDK and upload, higher polys has an absolutely negligible gpu hit). You can just go into edit mode, select what you want to decimate there, and press x and select limited dissolve in that menu to do a planar decimation without having to deal with modifiers or the right pane at all.

Can we get some FPS testing done on meshes? If there’s little FPS difference between a 20K avatar, 65K avatar and a 2 mesh 100K avatar then...

Decimating only has a problem with the verts that have weight attached to them. You'll just have to separate by selection and delete the the shapekeys on the newely separated mesh.

Yes, there are a couple of ways actually. There is a paint by selection button that looks like a cube with a checkerboard on it. Select the faces that you want to paint in edit mode and then go into weight paint mode, select the button after that.
