Thanks, I just wanted a bit of a ballpark estimate from people's past experiences so that's perfect. Thanks for the very informative post. I've got about 40-45 mesh particles active (about 30-60 tris each) for a spell channeling effect but they're all pretty simple with just size/color/rotation over time so we'll see how that goes. You need another new version of unity this time (but not the latest unity, so ignore the update warning). Also the mod installer in the OP has.. troubles updating for some reason. I recommend closing beat saber, renaming your Plugins dir to Plugins.bak, then reinstalling all the mods. The newest custom avatar plugin now works in first person, so you can see your dumb anime legs when you look down.

Which speaking of, you now also need to be more precise about body proportions for whatever reason. If your avatar arms aren't long enough your sabers will fly off, and if your legs are too long you're stuck in a squat the whole time. Will fix later.

Just how difficult would it be to use a 3D scan of figurine and subsequently rig it up as a 3D model?

I see two variants: Using articulated models like pic related pre-posed in a T and some editing to remove doll joints (unless you're into dolls desu), or making a scan of a regular figurine and working some modelling magic on it to pose it - but I have about zero experience doing any of this. Anybody have any insight on how difficult or easy it might be?

The Koikatsu generator allows for a lot more options. I think most won't bother though. This will also allow you to do so much more with the animator. Up until the update yesterday, you were able to do a Final IK exploit to allow you to separate the gestures on each hand, and it really is game changing. You can have your props/animations/sounds on one hand and still have the other for something else. This is all at no loss since you can still combine gestures to do safeties, combine blend shapes, ect.

Why isn't anyone making an alternative to this? It doesn't seem that difficult either and considering the amount of time programmers and nerds here I'm sure something can be cobbled up together.

Cut in half then mirror the half and separate eyeballs into submeshes and merge.

I currently use my glasses with the Rift but it's a tight fit. There are various prescription lenses you can but to put over the top of your lenses though, I plan to buy these ones soon since they're also compatible with the the VRCover
