If you've got dynamic bones on your avatar and don't have them set to distant disable of 15 or less you're a fucking meme.
Pic related one of my hair bones' settings also not subtle rate my settings pl0x it's entirely from experimentation. Johnny has his bones in the sleeves set to disable at the same distance in streamable to follow so you can get an idea of how it looks. You can see them snap into place when I get far enough away. In big meetups this will mean you'll still look nice to the people you're talking to or others who are at least comfortably in earshot while not lagging out people who are talking to a different group. Still yet to do large scale testing on how much it affects frames in meetups but the only way to tell is if everyone adds this to their dynamic bones and we have another big meetup with them on or switch from off to on and measure the difference.

Occlusion culling, static mesh batching and not using real time lighting unless absolutely necessary are the real magic behind high performance worlds.
The progressive lightmapper can help too, but you really need to know what you're doing to make it look good.

The two photogrammetry worlds they are passing through are swapped/made disabled/enabled when you collide with the portal, which is a 3d photosphere until it isn't.
Occlusion mesh around the whole thing so you're only rendering what you can see, and it creates a pretty trippy effect.

If you don't think it is, you don't know what you're talking about. It starts to create incrementally huge draw calls that start to stack after a while. A particle renderer pen is actually less work for a pc, and a gpu particle is near 0.
Funny enough, the main drag on vrc's performance is the fact that you're trying to render dx11 on a single core (though marginally threaded) while also doing vr things. The cpu is a bottleneck, not the gpu, it's underutilized.

No, an occlusion mesh is an occlusion mesh. It's a volume you put around your scene that occludes the system from rendering things your player camera (either in vr or not) can't see, which massively improves the performance of your world.

Must haves for vrchat in it's current state in my opinion are occlusion mesh, reflection probes, light probes, mild post processing, and static meshes with baked lights.
If you must have one realtime make it the directional light and make the shadows very minor.

New blender actually has shortcut option templates that can mimic max or maya or something less stupid.
Still can't touch maya, c4d, or even 3ds max though.

Can you link a guide or documentation for occlusion meshes? How is it different than frustum culling, or the occlusion culling volumes that unity has? Either google is filter bubbling me, or you're using an uncommon term for another technique.

Also I don't think the trail renderer draw calls are that big. It's two quads per update, and most people with snails have the trail renderer disabled except on gesture anyway, since resetting the length doesn't work in mirrors or camera.

And "occlusion mesh" is just shorthand for marking a mesh as "Occluder Static" which is a more manual way to have a gameobject or wall or whatever occlude everything behind it, especially if those meshes are static and batched and you're using some kind of realtime lighting.

basically mark a mesh as Occluder Static and bak occlusion culling on it, and lighting that wouldn't normally pass by it never will or get calculated nor will any part of anything behind it not visible to the camera.
Weird things you might be able to do with something like that is make a portable "high performance box" to use in any world to block out underperforming crap around you that you can't block.

that's the thing though, it's not just two quads per update. It depends completely on the world lighting (is there realtime? if so, does the marker draw shadows?) material, if the pen "storage" is visible, and a ton of other things. Each separate quad generated is a new draw call. With dynamic lighting, soft or hard shadows, that's quadrupled per quad generated. It's potentially exponential and one word could end up being 400+ draw calls if the world you're writing in has no occlusion volume (or a large one.)

Source? I'm pretty sure a single trail is a single mesh, and even multiple trails get dynamically batched by the engine. I've seen particle systems with the trail renderer on each particle. It ran with thousands of trails without a huge fps drop.

It's possible you just haven't noticed yet.
Unity renders opaque meshes in front-to-back order. If someone changes the shader on the trail, now it needs to switch back and forth between passes on the shader material.
Even when something is instanced, you have "set passes". Even with just one or two materials and one or two shaders, you might have 5 per object.
Add a single point light (not even counting directional light) even without shadows and you're now at 50+ SetPass calls, because the unity forward renderer is adding a pass for each quad.

Randoms then move the goal post saying server costs would go up. countered by stating that the game runs on peer-to-peer system so that is a lie, and that if the devs didnt ban everyone for talking about it they would know all of this.
Owner of discord comes in saying "Post proof of anyone being banned". Dank then starts going through discord messages about it.

Dank then proceeds to give information on how to optimize the game, being funneled through him from programmeranon. Owner says "hey cool thats good, post more of this stuff in suggestions channel". Dank just says programmeranon will join instead so he doesnt have to be a link.

There are a couple, what specifically is your problem with it? Looking down causing you to look through your chest is the one where you make your neck bone tiny and head bone cover the space.
The one where the body crouches when you bind into your avatar and the viewball stays in the same place is solved by changing your height before switching into the avatar and then changing it again to something shorter until it lines up and legs are straight.
Putting the viewball on the end of the nose apparently helps but to be honest I've done so many changes I can't even remember what that does or if it even helped.

When you move a mesh (or anything else) around in Blender, you're applying a transform to it. Usually it's some kind of modifier along the X and Y axes, along with some scaling. This is reflected in a menu somewhere in Blender which I can't recall the location of because I'm at work and haven't opened Blender in months. You can copy the settings from this menu, select the root of your hair armature, and copy the settings into the equivalent menu for it. That will move it the same way as the hair mesh.

Before Cats slightly automated the process, what I would do to combine parts was parent the root of the armature being added to the equivalent bone on the base model, then use the merge weights button to merge the bones, then repeat for each duplicate bone.

I'm not at all knowledgeable and there is surely an easier way to do all this, but that's what I was able to come up with.

The slightly less cheap but more performant way is to import the mask in blender, translate it/scale it to your face, then make a vertex group, assign all the verts to it (in edit mode), rename the vertex group to whatever your head bone is called, then merge the mesh with your body mesh.
