To start I'd recommend just downloading an MMD or other model and just learn how to clean it up and import it just as is.
That alone will teach you a good overview of the entire system as it goes from Blender to Unity to VRC.

After that try steadily ramping up the complexity of what you edit and touch so that you can get closer and closer to your ultimate goal in terms of models.

I have opened blender a grand total of 5 times in my history of vrchat. 3 headswaps, 1 full body fix, and 1 redoing the full body fix because wewlad who fucking knows what went wrong. Others put more effort into their avatar than me and are more optimised but I get by doing everything in unity. Vrcmods and vrcats are good places to look for shaders, rigged models, and props. Find a base model you like and tweak it until it's yours.
I understand the power of blender and everything I learn about the UI makes it better but it is Cthulhu and its documentation or help forums are the necronomicon. You have to learn by word of mouth or 1 on 1, stumbling blindly as I have is a fate worse than death and I wouldn't wish it on anyone. I did it without help. And I did it for unity too. But fucking don't. Get some help. There are plenty of blender wizards around.

That said just get it in ya mate and make some basic shit then show it off and have people tell you easier ways of doing it. Then do more shit and repeat the process. Working pretty well for me.

There are a fair amount in general on vrchat. Probably 10 or 20 mutes in the usual meetup groups total out of the ~200 or so people that cycle in and out. Don't expect to have many deep interactions with people unless you add a snail marker to your avatar, but plenty of fun can still be had.

We have a couple of mutes that can write backwards quickly and neatly. Grab a snail marker and a cute avatar and you'll be set. Alternatively learn sign language and how to make enough gesture overrides to actually do it in game. I've found that my biggest problem with blender is that I don't really understand the basics of 3D modeling and lack the vocabulary to ask the right questions. For example it took a while before I figured out how armature and vertex groups fit together.

The fundamentals playlist is a good watch, even if you've already fought your way through some basic MMD import stuff. You're bound to pick up some little trick in there that'll make things less painful.

tl;dw turn on the two options in pic related in user settings. Auto depth makes zooming into small details with the mouse wheel possible, and auto perspective snaps you into iso mode on front/side views with the numpad, which 90% of the time is what you want. numpad 5 still toggles between iso/perspective

So a quick shitty 6 fps shrink wrap tutorial on how i shrinkwrap the wiifit clothes onto my yamakaze.

1) use pose mode to position the clothing so it is the size and position closest to the target body but also all vertices/faces are above the target body
2) if there are any vertices/faces underneath the target body, then in edit mode on the clothing mesh pull those vertices/faces above the surface of the body (you can see i've already done this above the thighs and just above the knees)
3) Decide what parts will be/will not be shrinkwrapped and which parts will have to be shrinkwrapped separately with different settings or to different targets
With this example I'm shrinkwrapping the top and i am separately shrinkwrapping the leggings but only above the knee leaving the flared bottoms as they are
4) In Edit mode on the clothing
- select all the vertices of the top, making sure only the top is selected and nothing else
- in properties tab, go to the vertex tab, down to vertex groups
- add a new vertex group, name it appropriately, with the vertices still selected click assign
- deselect all the top vertices
- repeat for the leggings
5) In object mode on the clothing
- in properties tab, go to modifier tab, select shrinkwrap modifier
- set the target to your avatars body* or to whichever target you want
- set your appropriately named vertex group
- select keep above surface
- start at offset 0.001 and work your way up until you're happy i usually end up using .0025 to .005
- repeat for each vertex group to shrinkwrap (you don't have to apply them immediately you can have multiple on the same object at the same time)

*you may need to use CATS to split your body by materials so your naked base body is separate from hair or already attached clothing
** you can shrinkwrap to whatever you want so if you want to shrinkwrap an armband to clothing you can
