Go into texture paint mode on the mesh, grab texdraw brush at the top in tools toolbar, sample the color with S, check your strength and radius options and also blend mode. I think it needs to be mix but I'm not sure - play around with it. Don't forget to save image at the end (UV/image editor)

On the vertex group menu, in edit mode, you can assign groups of vertexes to bones and weight them accordingly. So you can select a bunch of vertexes, turn the weight slider to full, and the press assign to "left arm" and it will weight all those verts to that bone. In my opinion it is much cleaner and easier than brush weight painting.

The back and front center I left weighted to the hip because the skirt is very short so it looks like it's just hanging in the center when I move a leg. With longer skirts I will assign the center parts to both legs so it will move with either.

Here. The selected verticies will be assigned to the selected group with the specified weight when you press 'assign'. The easiest way to create gradients is to select an area, assign it a weight, press ctrl+ to select the next line of verticies, press 'deselect' which will deselect the verticies which already have a weight, then you reduce the weight and assign it to the remaining line, then repeat reducing the weight each time. Another alternative to manual weight painting is to separate the skirt mesh from the rest of your body mesh, remove all its existing vertex groups if present, unparent it from the Armature in the blender hierarchy (drag it up above), then _reparent_ it to the armature, which gives you the option to "Apply automatic weights". It does a sort of nearest neighbor weighting that follows the legs nicely. Then remerge meshes.

I dunno if the deparent/reparent step is strictly necessary, it might be possible to use "Transfer weights" instead for the same effect. Also, two caveats: if you have any other bones near your skirt, e.g. long hair bones, they could accidentally get weighted to the skirt as well, had this problem. Additionally if you've already munged your armature with the CATS "fbt fix", you'll get weird weighting since the extra leg bones no longer correspond to their physical position. I recommend keeping the armature original, then only applying the fbt fix just before export.

There are studio grade voice changers out there. A DAW with a VST plugin can sound very convincing on the software side. Autotune, G200KG, Cubase are probably the most common ones. Hardware voice changers or "magic boxes" are nearly indistinguishable from actual voices but come at a high price point. Interrupting the usual gay shit for tank update. I got this nice m60a1 model with fully detailed interior from another anon, gamerip from somewhere. I put it to a smoke test in VRchat, just imported it and stuck vrchat seats in all the positions. Video is jerky, but it's quite cool to look around in person even though you can't manipulate anything for real. Feels nice and cramped. full-resolution video:

Does make me think about implementing the actual mechanics more, seeing all the stuff that's in there in scale. Commander just sits up top and looks around, easy. The loader is also fairly straightforward, stick vrc_pickup ammo in breech, on some sort of animation state machine. It looks awkward to reach around since the VRC_Station pins your hips and spine to the seat, but such is the loader. Driver is difficult because can't manipulate pedals. Best I can think of is OnPickupUseDown for acceleration, but it's on/off, can't get analog grip input from the controller sadly. Could do manual transmission shifting, maybe. The yoke steering is hard to do, but I think there are enough hacks to get it to mostly work right. Gunner traverse and elevation controls, I think I have a strategy for. All the optics can be simulated with Cameras probably. Dunno how shaky it'll be when the whole tank is moving around though.

I was hoping for more WW2-era tanks, if anybody happens to have like an m4 sherman with modeled interior. Less stuff going on inside.

What's the right way to deal with materials that are supposed to be transparent and only visible when specific shape keys are active? Now experimenting with physically-implemented joints in unity, using Box colliders to form a socket around a capsule collider as a bearing. I was having a lot of trouble earlier with the way configurable joints were transmitting force between their connected bodies. Rather than the force being transmitted as if they were attached, the force affects the first body, which moves the anchor point of the joint, then the joint tries to fixup the relationship by applying a force and torque to the second rigid body to get it back into position. Very bizarre in my opinion, and was making things hard to reason about.

This physical joint solution seems to work fairly well, and you can still apply forces (through Constant Force and animators) to move things around relative to each other, smoothly. You can also swap out colliders themselves with colliders of a different physic material to change the friction from smooth bearing to max friction, to better simulate an actual gear drive. I imagine you could do an literal gear drive too with teeth colliders, though if you look closely at even the current setup, there's a lot of small jiggling as the iterative solver keeps clipping the rigidbodies out of each other. Little teeth be just too much for physx to handle, especially at velocity.

its basically the legacy way but instead of using legacy animation component you just use the animator. shouldnt be too hard to find a guide somewhere, when you create an animation in unity it makes an animator component by default, stick it onto the body object and you got your blinking animation. As for the blinking animation just every 5 seconds or so set your blink shape keys to go from 0 to 100 and back to 0, or whatever intervals you please etc.

It does indeed work fairly well. Threw together a wheelCollider hull and a bunch of dumb triggers. The smooth traverse and elevation of the turret satisfying. However, driving is not. Has a mile-wide turning radius, and can't come to a stop. But, fixing driving should just be a matter of tweaking the parameters, unsatisfying UI aside.

One additional bug is that at the end of the video where I try to turn the turret while on a slope, the torques assigned to the turret and gun can't actually overcome the friction in that pose somehow. Also a matter of tweaking constants.
