The Rift is a VR headset. Its controllers were more comfortable for her to sign with as opposed to the Vive (another headset) which has different controllers. The game is good for social skills, but in regards to hearing loss there are more options than signing--a lot of rooms have markers you can pick up and write with (and you can add a marker to your avatar yourself with some help from a tutorial). As a HoH or deaf person your critique as a VRChat user would actually be pretty valuable if you want to give it a whirl and write about it.

I am never really sure of the nationality of most randos (or /vrg/ for that matter) I play with, because they don't use the mic. However their body language combined with emoji/3D marker (snail pen, you can write mid-air) is more than enough to understand them. You can map some hand gestures, but you're only limited to five unless there are some tricks with animations I don't know about.

Serious Sam Last Hope is pretty darn cool, it ending up being co-op with just two players is annoying, more time to hang out with a vrbro though.

I usually also do gun game until we have 6 players, at 6 players I do smaller maps like killhouse, and then once we have 8-10 I do the larger normal CS maps.
I've found that gun game goes quickly and keeps people entertained until you can get more people to show up.

So I did the Vive lens mod. I wasn't expecting much, but holy shit, when I put my headset on it was like a night and day difference. Not a single god ray and the picture is crystal clear across my entire field of view.

I highly recommend this mod if you have a spare 50 bucks for the mod kit and aren't apprehensive about breaking the seal on your expensive headset.

Pros:
- Crystal clear picture
- Entire lens is the "sweet spot"
- No god rays
- Works for vive and vive pro

Cons:
- Dust -will- get in and it will take a few tries to get a clean install
- New lenses will be closer to your eyes, probably won't work with glasses. (I can feel my eyelashes brush against them when I blink)
- The sound of breaking the seal on the old lenses will give you a heart attack

But logically speaking, how does that change things so much? The majority of people who don't have autism in the end will still be using free or paid assets, and currently in VRChat most people don't exactly use very good looking or high effort models. By making it into a business, higher quality content will be able to be made, and lower quality content will either die out or will make small amounts of money, depending on how content is curated or found (haven't went to see what their plans for this are). So it will depend a lot on how that content discovery is done.

You could argue that it would increase the barrier to entry for content creation and stifle creativity in the short term, but in the long term, this depends a lot on tools. The easier it is to create assets, the more willing people will be to jump in both for profit and not for profit, and the higher quality the assets will be for a given price. If it becomes a truly big industry, then there will be large incentive in improved publicly available tools, like how Unity and Unreal developed.

And that's another point. Since we quite literally are using the exact tools used in another industry to create products that are exactly useful in that other industry, we benefit from that a lot already, and will continue benefiting from it. VRChat's creative community would not be where it is without those tools, nor would VRChat exist in the first place. Perhaps Neos' community would not benefit from paid assets immediately, but in the future, any platform should benefit by having paid (and free) content that is well curated for the user or does content discovery well, as the tools keep the barrier to entry and barrier to a creative community low.

If VRChat wants avatar worlds and sites like vrcmods to improve, they just need to add links/portals, stats and understandable performance profiling, likes/dislikes, and searching in game so fame can be the motivator and the "majority of people who don't have autism" (who are sheep who don't know or care what they're doing) can see it every time they log in. That's a lot easier for the developers to do than building and managing a store themelves, a task which is beyond the capabilities of the VRChat devs.
