I've got an issue with Blender - I've got a tongue with a shapekey on it to stick it out. I'm trying to add it to my avatar but when I merge the meshes, all the shapekeys from the avatar cause the tongue to stick out (as if the stick-out-tongue shapekey from the tongue mesh is applying to every shape key on the avatar). I've even tried separating the tongue back onto its own mesh, removing all the shapekeys each way, re-merging and finding myself back in the same spot.

I'm totally out of ideas. It seems like a bug but I don't know how to avoid it. Can I get some help?

One thing I didn't get to try before my toaster-and-PSVR combo gave me a two day vertigo-headache was a third person game, and I'm curious is the sense of scale you usually get is still present. Looks like a pretty cute model so far.

If you need physical references obviously a drawing model is always helpful, and references in general honestly. I also would find some assets on various sites for models that you could use (and ore okay to) for editing to perhaps mold the face the way you prefer.

If my understanding is correct all you really need is the ability to make the model, join it together as a single object and then rig for VRChat.

The one thing I don't have much experience with is textures. You may have to make them in an online drawing program, or you can always take bits and pieces to put them all together.

- The eye as seen from profile will not look right in 3d as you've drawn it. You can get away with it if it's very stylised but if you want an eye that works like an eye you need to keep it almost parallel with the plane of the face. If you get stuck look at photographs of people

I think you already have enough to go off of. Just cut these up and stick these profile views into blender for the front/side planes. Not sure how to do it in 2.8 but you can google.
Honestly since you're going for the anime aesthetic you really don't need to do much modelling what you can do is take a "base mesh" from another avatar that looks similar to yours and push/pull the verts until they start to line up to your sketch. Most 3d artists reuse a good base mesh so they aren't constantly reinventing the wheel so to speak.
However, if you are wanting to go from scratch completely look up some character modelling tutorials to get the basics. The most important thing is understanding what your mesh topology should look like, where quads follow the musculature and such.
Otherwise the most important thing is just to start doing something I made my own from scratch and you learn the most from the process itself. You'll figure out what needs to be improved as you go. You can post progress here and I'm sure people would give you pointers.
