the AI is kinda garbage but I guess it doesn't need much better for a horde zombie game, now I'll have to see for myself whether the grind is soul crushing or if it's 'okay'

Honestly, I'd say no. I'd say pretty much the only net positive is having Beat Saber as a form of exercise I can do at home. VRFPS potentially ruins desktop FPS because the controls are so much better, but there aren't any games coming out, and the existing ones are developed by retards. VRchat turned out nothing like what I expected. Simulators are inherently janky in VR. The hardware and software are fraught with issues. Maybe 10% of /vrg/ will play anything but VRchat, spread all around the world, so it's a struggle to get any kind of multiplayer game going. There's greater interest in Discord, flat games, and real life meetups than VR here. I am glad to have experienced what is hopefully the future in an early form, but it's also incredibly frustrating being in this endless stagnation.

Check out a world called Dead Station: Trident 14 in VRC, it's got a cool no gravity gimmick to play with. You can fling yourself forward by grabbing onto walls and use fire extinguishers as thrusters.

Last I heard samsung was still working on at least two VR related project (we'll probably hear more from them during that convention I forgot the name off early next year) and microsoft is probably trying to get something out for their next xbox to go against the ps5's new psvr

And there are plenty of gadgets, problem being VR not becoming mainstream meant they had to cater to the enthusiast market, which more often than not means death penalty to such startups

TLDR: VR is still in its very early stages and nobody's sure when's the right time to get in, probably waiting for the first real mainstream headset to hit the shelves (which will probably be either the true second gen HMDs or the third gen, so in over 5years time)

VRChat is one of the tops if you enjoy learning how to 3d model and socialize. With a group this large you are bound to find somebody you enjoy hanging out with. Avoid faggots who complain about Americans. Long term the gameplay doesn't exist, you hang out with crazy niggers on the internet, /vrg/ is a good time most weekends and across the timezones if you are cultured in anything at all. There is a reason this game has been the main subject of /vrg/ for years.

Pavlov is a pretty good scene if you enjoy competition and are capable of sticking to your guys through your learning experience. There are crazy Pavlov Choomer types that play it all the time and will kill you with magical jujitsu before you even have time to hold your gun up. If you can get past dying many times its fun.

Payday 2 is just an upgrade to play in VR, but nobody plays it.

Beat Saber is an important one, if you are down to get /fit/ beat-saber is your kind of game. It is challenge and physical challenge in the same mix, you are going to have to build up your armstrength anon.

My only complaint is that while there is a ton of stuff to do with 2-4 players or 6-10 players, 5 players leaves you with the only option of awkward 2v3 shooty games, or stacking a team against pubs. They could probably compress further, but the game is legitimately large enough with high enough resolution textures that it's not that unreasonable that it takes up 130 GB. It's not just how long the game is, but how many unique things are present that have textures. But the game itself is actually not very short. On the lowest difficulty and only doing the main quest, it takes around 16-20 hours to complete. On medium difficulty and completing a decent amount of the side content, it takes more often 30-40 hours.

Am I the only one having issues with steamvr's desktop mode from the dashboard?
I have two screens and whenever I open the dekstop from the dashboard the first time, both screens work fine, but if I go back to the game or my steam library or something and get back to desktop mode, both screens get cropped and I get a weird ass crop cutting both screens in half length-wise (meaning I can't access the windows menu or even the taskbar)

Is there a hidden setting somewhere in steamvr allowing me to only show a single screen instead?

Also, how the fuck do you double click with the index controllers? (I'm guessing it's the same with all the other controllers as well)
Double clicking with the triggers is fucking impossible and I have to try two dozen times before I finally get to do it

I've gone on some irl outings/events recently and I couldn't help feeling the whole time that it was all a hassle that'd be way easier in VR. It's weird but I never really thought about it in context of alternatives because none really existed.
When you go out there's all kinds of prep work that goes in getting ready, then planning, and then there's the actual money involved to be able do something. Whereas with VR you can just jack in and go anywhere anytime for free. People in VR are almost univerally easier to approach and talk to as people tend to not have their personal guards up so much when it comes to strangers. The content is seemingly endless in size and scope, even then if it sucks you can instantly teleport into an entirely new experience. In real life your stuck and it probably took a while to get there in the first place.

What's the actual benefit for meatspace interaction at this point? Sure it's still higher fidelity for now but it really feels like for the most part interaction in VR captures enough to simulate the full experience. Am I just too far detached from the real world for thinking this?

Friend just bought the Valve Index system the other day. We played for about five hours today, and I noticed that, in Pavlov (and Skyrim, occasionally), I was getting some weird glitchiness where both sticks would stop working for a second until I clicked them in, and then they would occasionally fail to push me in the right direction when I was trying to move about.

I believe skyrim's default uses the HMD and pavlov uses the controllers' by default, aka skyrim will go forward depending on where you're looking at (like a desktop FPS game would, for example) while pavlov (or other games using the controllers as point of reference) let you look left and right while the 'forward' is decided by the position of both your controllers (and I'm guessing their inclinations as well, but I never tested that more)

I believe I noticed what you're experiencing back when I just received my index, but I do not believe I have 'felt' this issue in a while, aka I either got used to it, and so it's just one of the quirks tied to the wonky way vr games are controlled, or it was the settings I just told you about and I simply got used to always use the controllers as points of reference and select it in the options whenever I can

my experience with thumbsticks in general was different, got only one drifting thumbstick after roughly six years of DS3 abuse. i still own DS1, DS2, DS4, all flawless. so, now i'm giggling internally and imagining your grug self squeezing the ever loving fuck out of every thumbstick you'll get your hands on. can't help it, sorry

I abused the shit out of my steampad and have like 2000hours of DS1/2/3 speedrunning on it and it still works flawlessly, but I noticed that to get to the edge of the index's trackpad, the middle of your thumb has to basically press against the tip of the area, instead of using just the tip of your thumb?
