The wireless is standalone only unless you try something like ALVR, which won't be as good as Link. Even Link won't be as good as a Rift S for PC VR. I'd only recommend a Quest if you want to use it mostly standalone.

what are some good worlds in VR chat to talk with anons?

So how do people feel about the HTC Cosmos so far? I was wanting to get a VR headset, and was leaning towards the Rift S, is that worth it, or should I save for the Cosmos?

the tracking is absolutely horrible and barely useable, even (look up reviews)
the screen is great, but the lenses are just as bad as the vive's
the controllers themselves are okay, if not for how heavy they are and how much battery they run through (have to swap them every 2-4 hours, compare that to the 6-12hours of rift/index)

also there's been a lot of drama about a lot of games simply not recognizing the controllers, until now if a game didn't support your index or touch controllers they were still recognized and 'somewhat' useable, but right now you can't even play games like pavlov with the cosmos (but that maybe has changed already, I haven't been paying more attention to it since it came out)

just don't bother with HTC, they don't have valve to keep them in line anymore

So far, only one map has mechanics related to view height and such.
That map had a doorway that you can only go through while crouching or prone.
That map was customized beyond normal parameters and is a work in progress so the settings are not easily available for the public.

If the pen is part of an avatar, it will be subject to the shitty interpolation and update rate of the network IK and anything you write with it will be mostly unreadable. This is a problem the devs will likely never fix because they think the current network IK is "good enough" and that we don't need the fidelity that the previous IK system had.

If the pen is part of a world, it will mostly work fine as its movements are not handled by the network IK system that an avatar is.

First. All game are repetitive. That is the nature of games since cave men found ways to entertain themselves besides sex.
Asgard's Wrath feels that way at the start. You quickly start getting other weapons types, abilities and companions after the tutorial.
That's just the first character so far for me. I'm told the other 2 warriors you possess in the game also mix things up really well.
The level design is also very good. You never feel like you're in some copy pasted environment.

If you are an anon who has even a remote level of Blender skill, do try and educate your peers and they might show you something in return. Free exchange of knowledge will always be more beneficial for places like this as more minds working at an familiar pattern breeds new methods and different ways of thinking can build more efficient ones. It's got the same halo headband that the Explorer has, so I'd assume they're at least similar. I've heard some of the other WMR headsets were kinda uncomfortable though.

Nice to have, but the Rift S audio quality means you'll probably want to use headphones with that too. Lack of a built in mic on WMR did really suck though.

You don't need to set up boundaries for roomscale games to work, so I just switched back to standing mode early on when I couldn't figure out how to hide them. I don't remember it being any harder than SteamVR room setup though, and I've had to redo that a few times already.

They both use the Halo design but are not at all similar. The Rift S is less front heavy, and the strap fits a bit better, there is also a lot less light bleed.

I've not really noticed anything bad about the audio. Kept hearing how terrible it was. But no, its fine. As it as good as my $100 headphones? No, but its still nice. A lot of people need to turn on bass boost and never bother to do that too.

And you must have forgot a lot, because the WMR requires you to take off the helmet and walk around your playspace aiming the headset at the pc, its very awkward. It also has awkward floor settings, the Rift S you paint the boundery with the passthrough camera and a controller, and touch the floor with the controller for that. It also remembers it, which is a plug.

You can get a WMR headset for less than half the price of a Quest or Rift S, and it was night and day between WMR and the CV1 when there was arguably a bigger difference in comfort, audio, and tracking. Even just some basic linear level logic, spawns and enemy awareness states for Blade and Sorcery maps would go a long way. The combat is great but I can't reasonably make a map that isn't just some sort of arena when what I really want is to make something similar to the cliffside level in Dark Messiah.

You can get the dark souls experience with Sword of Gargantua but it's still pretty arena.
The combat is sweaty and precise and challenging if you are trying to complete the challenges or get perfect no damage runs.
But there's no dismemberment. You don't get boners and soak your pants with pre. But you are challenged and get covered in sweat.
