Can anyone give me some helpful advice in terms of how to conquer VR apathy/anxiety? Over the past few months I've had a hard time getting myself to play any VR games for a variety of reasons, here are just a few:

My current build is currently utilizing an AMD Ryzen 7 1800x CPU and a RX480 GPU, so many of the games I play in VR tend to run pretty poorly (most games stutter frequently, while other games like VRC and Rec Room struggle to ever achieve a constant 60fps). I'd like to upgrade my build sometime soon but I'm currently a poorfag neetlet so any potential upgrades will have to wait.

Whenever it comes to social VR titles like VRC and Rec Room I seldom ever communicate for mostly two reasons. The first is that the IRL environment I play in is consistently loud and occupied, meaning people in VR will hear people IRL and people IRL will hear me having convos in VR. In order for me to be fully immersed and stress free when playing in VR I'd prefer to be totally alone IRL, which currently isn't an option. Secondly, I've always been a very socially awkward person; I'm not a conversation starter and I don't talk unless it's necessary or prompted. In games like VRC these traits generally never help since the bulk of the servers I visit are almost fully composed of groups of people already engaging with each other over some topic I have no knowledge about (I'm not the type of person to butt in to a conversation if that wasn't obvious enough already).

I'd really love to get invested into VR again but I feel like at this current state it's basically impossible for me to do. If anyone here with similar struggles has some useful advice to share I'd greatly appreciate it.

Best thing to do would be to find space in your bedroom for VR. You can get rid of your bed frame and flip the mattress against the wall to create a useful VR playspace, which should get you some privacy.
Unless you're in a dorm room or something in which case just try to get over it until you graduate I guess.

Your CPU is fine for VR; you could look at upgrading to a 1070 or RX 570 or something to help with the framerate. Also check that your RAM is running at 3200MHz, and upgrade that if necessary.

A used 1070 is fine if you're on a budget, but a 570 would be a downgrade. If he's got more money to drop on it, I'd get a 2060 Super or 2070 Super, or wait for the 3000 series stuff in a few months.

Moving your setup into your bedroom if that's more private or being mute for now are probably the best options. We still have some anons who've been mutes the whole time they were here.

I got a lot better over time as I got used to it. Hanging out with /vrg/ was also a lot nicer for me than hanging out in publics, although out in publics you don't have to worry as much about being remembered if you mess up and want to disappear forever. Either way, you can just hang around until you feel comfortable talking.
Playing games in the lobbies that show up here is nice too. There's no real pressure to socialize, you can just play the game.

If you just want to get back into VR in general, you can just play some single player stuff for now. If you're looking for cheap games, you can grab that VR humble bundle or just pirate stuff since that's usually pretty easy.

I'm trying to make a granade launcher for VRChat by using a particle with gravity that dies on collision and spawns an explosion on death.
However when I set it to simulate locally the granade follows the weapon after its been fired and if I set it to simulate in world then for some fucking reason it always fires from the starting position of my gun and not where I'm aiming despite it being parented to the weapon.

Other than having to calibrate it every time you put it on and if all of your trackers get out of sight it desyncs I've had no issues with it. The Oculus guardian is better than SteamVR chaperone which is nice.

I've had no issues with playspace drifting like people have had on WMR and og Rift and Quest tracking doesn't interfere with lighthouses. The tracking actually improves as Quest can use lighthouses as infrared beacons.

How comfortable would the Index be for watching movies and anime and stuff? Would it start to get uncomfortable spending a few hours there bingewatching some things?

It's pretty comfy for watching, especially with friends in vrchat. The screen resolution still isn't as good as a 1080p monitor; while there's no noticable screen door effect, there's still a lot of aliasing from the pixel grid, most noticeably on subtitle text. Cranking up supersampling helps at the expense of performance, though if you're just watching anime, not like the 144hz screen matters anyway. I think the headset itself is less comfy than the rift because it's so heavy, but if you get it adjusted right it's okay for hours. Is there any way to play a particle animation (not enable the emitter) via animation override?
What I want is to spawn a projectile whenever I make a gesture but I want the projectile to stay for the full animation length even if I stop doing the gesture (and also be able to use the same projectile few times at the same time but that's less important), this is obviously impossible via simple "play on awake" and enabling / disabling the particle emitter via gesture override since all particle animations will stop the moment I stop doing the gesture.
