I have the leather gasket replacement and also the cloth cover. The leather is comfortable but when sweaty is unpleasant. The cover is nice and handy since you can just chuck it in the wash. Unfortunately, unlike the CV1, the cloth cover doesn't fit over the leather gasket so you can't combo them.

your only real choice is Index, or OG Vive/Vive Pro

Reverb doesn't have capasitive buttons so you can't make gestures by touching the buttons which kind of sucks for VRChat. Rift S/Quest work very well for VRC but you don't want to get Zucced. Vive Cosmos is hot garbage.

I don't know what the backlog for Index is but many have had to wait for months. Vive's screen is outdated and the Wands aren't exactly the best controllers. Vive Pro has decent screen but is relatively expensive for what it offers. You could get Vive/Vive Pro immediately though and you can get wireless adapter and Index controllers for them later if needed.

Before the covid shit happened it took about 2 weeks for me (EU). Had to replace my headset too unfortunately since the audio broke internally. Sent everything in and got a new kit within a month. I literally leave my headset connected 24/7 and restart my pc once a week at most and slept several times in VR with the headset on so no your controllers should have not broken because of that.
