Atleast the outfit fags only have 1-4 of those skinned meshes visible.

Also, people with outfit swappers will have, at the very least, 2 skinned meshes visible at any one time. I would like medium perf and 25Mb be some baseline. Unless you go out of your way to grief, those rules would keep it performant enough without crippling creativity.
Should also tell people how to open and check the analyzer in Unity to see draw calls and vram usage

Medium doesn't mean much when you're running around with multiple skinned meshes. The performance ranking is trash. I have an avatar that would be excellent if not for the dynamic bones which lower it to very poor, despite people having the option to toggle them off if they don't want them on.

Yes, and a 69999 tris avatar with some unoptimized fur shader that almost crashes you is not superior to a 70002 avatar with Unity standard shader.
But what we have is the perf and file size limits. And with these 2 parameters it's easy to filter out the worst offenders.

Medium and 25Mb is what I consider a good limit and baseline, and wich I follow on my regular avatars. Even thou I have both better and worse avatars depending on circumstances.
What other people do is up to them to decide.

The problem is that the shit trash devs decided to go with a non-realtime performance check. It was decent before they changed it to count in all the meshes and stuff that isn't even on. With 3.0 most people have multiple skinned meshes and it can go really high because of different outfits but people who aren't stupid don't have more than 6-8 on all the time. Question: I have Index and in VRchat when I find one of those players where you can paste a URL of a video. How do I do it? I could do this on Rift S back in March, because the Oculus UI allowed you to use a full keyboard, but the Steam version has no actual keys like CTRL+SHIFT etc. so I have no way of pasting anything in, let alone type it.

There's probably two different vertex groups for the head, and the neck is using the one that doesn't match the name of the head bone, while the head is using the one that does. It requires simply renaming the vertex group on the neck to the same as the bone, while the head itself is not on the same mesh.

There's some way to get the steamvr desktop overlay to pop up a 'copy' and 'paste' button, but I've never gotten it to work reliably. https://github.com/elvissteinjr/DesktopPlus is a good free replacement that has a proper keyboard with ctrl/shift/etc , and a few other nicer features than the default steam desktop

For $10, XSOverlay or OVRToolkit will also do copy/paste and do nicer multiwindow features like oculus dash does. I prefer xsoverlay slightly but they're pretty much the same. the free desktop plus works well enough just for copy/paste thouguh.

The only real downside of upgrading from Rift S to Index was the loss of the really great desktop tool Oculus had, where you could drag windows up, below, left, right or even make into a movie theater easily. Steams version is just so shitty in comparison.

You're thinking of OVR advanced settings, which is generally useful (try out the redirected walking if you have the playspace for it). I bought both OVRToolkit and XSOverlay. Performance is fine on both, haven't noticed any issues in games. I think XSOverlay's UI is slightly less clunky than OVRToolkit's, but functionality is pretty much identical. Both can do multiple windows, controller-attached windows, transparency, copy/paste, etc. Both will also occasionally have some bug where a window freezes, so I end up having to restart the program, but otherwise no issues.

I have RTX 2080 (which is soon going to be trash with 3080 around the corner -- which I'm going to upgrade to down the line) so most games work just fine in VR apart from a few like Alyx while recording and Blade & Sorcery after a while and the only game that doesn't work well at all performance wise is No Man's Sky, but that game always worked like shit. CPU isn't a bottleneck for me either since it's an i9 9900k, but yeah I've only had this PC for a year so I don't really want to upgrade just yet however the new cards have me excited for better performance in VR since the Index has such a nice refresh rate.
