I'm going to be the odd one out here, but teleportation is extremely comfy when it's done right and I will take it over direct movement if I can. The problem is designing for teleportation basically requires you to either
1) develop an entire game around the mechanic
>Make a game that's slow enough where teleporting won't put the player at a disadvantage, such as a puzzle game where reflexes aren't required
or 2) extremely strip down a lot of things in your game to make it work
>A shooting game where you can only teleport to a few given locations with cover, and you just need to make the locations look fluid enough that the player doesn't realize he's in a glorified rail shooter
This basically means you can't straight port a lot of genres to VR and make them just work with teleportation. It also means if you do it you'll either have a killer game that will make bank or a complete flop that people will hate to play. No inbetween.
Just do walking with teleporting as a comfort option that people can turn on. Nobody ever will, but it makes you immune to criticism about it.

You don't need a matching armature for the second option, the arms just need to be in roughly the same resting position.
You can use rotation constraints to puppet completely inhuman models by attaching them to a regular humanoid skeleton and hiding the original mesh.

Got my index something like a week ago. Here's my impressions from someone with +5000 hours on the cv1

Overall I have a lot of mixed feelings about this headset and not yet sure if this purchase was worth it or not.

Pros

>Higher fov
>Higher refresh rate(though I don't notice much of a difference after 90hz)
>Don't have to mix playspaces for fbt

I went from the CV1 to index last year, and it felt about the same. The touch controllers are pretty close to perfect and the knuckles are big let down, just too big and heavy with useless finger tracking. The index headset itself is like 3 times as heavy as the rift, just can't be as comfy (except the rift foam sucked). However, the higher resolution, fov and frame rate grow on you in a subtle way. I had to go back to my CV1 for a bit (ironically because of an RMA), and the screen door effect hit me hard. I would totally use the touch controllers with the index if I could, but overall I like the index headset better, even despite the few flaws it has.
