The OG Rift controllers are just nice and simple which give them a lot of benefit in terms of comfort and use.
That and they feel unbreakable overall.

Personally I prefer the Knuckles for the hand strap and the fact that I don't have to animate the fingers I just do the motion, but there's a lot of getting used to the fit and then doing gestures as well.

Oculus. Index controllers are great and they're really impressive, but tracking is not flawless, it's not always doing what you want to do. OG Rift would never do that to you because it had obvious binary controls, only two proximity sensor states (lift up, touch down, then analog press on trigger/grip itself) and you'd get your gesture 100% of the time.

Purely for VRC, i think Rift wins. Then again, it's nice to have independent fingers in game, it has to be worth something.

I think neos could work as a social platform, as essentially a subset of its giant feature set, but clearly the dev team has other ambitions, which leave neos in an overly clunky state if you just want to do social things; both performance and UI. Vrchat is much more streamlined. Neos is still worth trying to see the full extent of its power though. The avatars and worlds and props in there are quite cool.

Shillout's devs are trying to optimize for the exact same experience as vrchat at least. They still are behind on polish and features (besides just amount of content and players) though so unless you're interested in alpha testing (or multiplayer dynamic bones, the one feature that does work well) there's just not much to see or do.

Neos doesn't have any way to make maps and avatars except in VR, which I think is misguided compared to relying on a unity SDK like vrchat/shillout. Among other things, I think most neosvr maps run so badly because they only have realtime lights, without any way to bake lightmaps in game. And the spaghetti coding system makes it impossible to use the rest of regular software development tooling like version control and libraries (a complaint I have with udon as well, but at least udonsharp crosses the gap). And no way to use custom shaders.

There are good technical reasons why neos works the way it does, but again, it's a difference in direction. As much as vrchat is a hackjob, I just like it better, and its success shows.

Thats Take and Hold. In take and hold you go to the hold points and active them but touching the node. After that you have to destroy encryption nodes while surviving the round from sosigs. However, disagree on avatars, I imported my avatar into Neos easily with an .fbx file and textures, and it was far more straight forward than when I did the same on VRChat. Also Neos has had baking for like a year.

The initial avatar import with textures and the ugly standard shader is easy yes, but once you want to start changing the shaders or shader settings, afaik you have to pull out the dev tooltip and open up the inspector and find your avatar materials in the hierarchy and click through a whole bunch of menus. Sure, you have to do the same in vrchat/unity, but it's a lot easier there to have the documentation or a tutorial open in another window, whereas the only real way to learn neos is have somebody else there explaining it all to you, while fighting with the UI.

Again if I squint my mind I can kind of see the appeal of doing everything with your hands in VR and relying that weird sort of tribal oral knowledge transfer between people in game, but it's just so much friction compared to a unity SDK and the wealth of documentation out there.

I think if you want to get more people into neos you'll need to write better tutorials on how to do basic shit, and also however you're solving the performance issues on your end. Maybe you just know the non-shit maps? I dunno.

How many hours do you have in Neos? It's a genuinely dreadful experience on any maps that have anything interesting on them. The first thing I do whenever I load into a world is delete all of the point lights because there's no baked lighting at all and everything being realtime means performance is going to be ass.
There's also no occlusion culling, because that's something you would need to bake in an outside program. I've seen a couple maps that have "manual" occlusion culling by placing triggers that disable objects you can't see, but almost no one is going to bother with that.
Neos just isn't suitable for anything other than a light collaborative environment in an empty world.

Armour has HP, Structure has HP. Once you've knocked off the plating you can then do direct damage to that point to blow off legs/arms etc or the main body to deal damage. You can hit gaps in between the armour like joints or the actual cockpit canopy and do damage straight away but it takes better aiming otherwise you end up spreading a bunch of damage onto the structure and a bunch onto the armour without really doing anything noticeable.
