Can be worth picking up Beat Saber, it's still one of the best VR games in my opinion even though it doesn't go on sale.
H3 is good but only if you like guns, there's barely any game there beyond the firearms simulation.
I'm also a huge fan of Into The Radius but I'm also a stalkerfag, it's pretty janky but it's also a complete experience and there's nothing else quite like it at the moment.
VRChat and The Lab are both free and can be neat introductions to VR.
There's other games like Boneworks, Pistol Whip, and Walking Dead SS but I'm not sure whether they're on sale.

I made the shader for the egg. It's a relatively straightforward stencil buffer setup, with the inside of the egg setting the stencil buffer, and the orrery geometry testing the stencil buffer, on a higher render queue, with an otherwise regular mesh renderer. i.e. the standard 'portal' effect.

The less straightforward part was to get the orrery to fit inside vket's booth bounds check. I hacked around that by shrinking the gameobject transform enough so that the skinned mesh bounds fit intothe booth, then in the vertex shader, rescaling the vertices back to full size in model space before applying the MVP transform. In retrospect, since it's a skinned mesh renderer, you can probably just edit the bounds in unity manually; i made the hack when it was still a regular mesh renderer though.

Finally, the orrery is still "real" geometry and needs depth checks to render properly, yet the depth buffer is already set by the surface of the egg. To fix this, I scaled the vertex's Z in clip space back from the real (hundreds of meters away) to 0-1 meters (i.e. inside the egg). This essentially squishes the geometry inside the egg while remaining correctly (stereo) projected. I did have some weird trouble with the clip space Z I don't entirely understand still; that's why when you go inside the egg, the orrery can render on top of your own avatar's shaders (since it's "closer" on the z buffer"). Something about the reversed-Z buffer that I don't understand entirely.

I had 2 rifts and they both ended up having problems with USB extensions after a while and eventually ended up without USB signal. I returned first one as broken and bought index after second one. Tried 5 or 6 different USB cables, half of which didn't work once problem started to occur and other half I didn't notice a difference between how often they'd work. HDMI worked good though. That said, I know other people that used rift and didn't have problems with extensions.

Whats the best method to get custom songs onto the Oculus Quest 2? I never got around to installing the beat saber custom channel thing onto it since the auto syncing liked songs didn't work on the quest 1.

It comes with a short charging cable (about a foot or two at most). You probably wouldn't be able to even sit down comfortably at your PC with it.

To connect it with your PC either buy the official link cable, a knockoff, or use Virtual Desktop. All three have their merits and downsides.

Official - has a copper line running along the fiberoptic line that recharges it during use, somewhat. Extends playtime to 6 to 7 hours up from the normal 2. Pricey though.

Knockoff - you can hook it up to your PC, getting various results. If it's just the optic cable though, no recharging. Cost varies.

in VD latency gets as low as like 10-15ms but in games it can get up to 40-50ms so my settings may need adjusting

While you can hook up a powerpack (of various sorts) to it, the power link is the same port you use to connect a link cable to your PC. So you get to either a) Use the Quest 2 as a stand alone or b) Use wireless desktop (see above). Note that games like VRChat run badly on Quest 2 alone - a lot of the avatars won't be able to be seen by you (avatars have to be made to be quest compatible for you to see them), about 15,000 vertices (which means no glowing monstrosities are visible. Take that as you will). Some games may not run on the Quest 2 processor alone, or not well.

2 hours run time before a recharge is just insufficient for gaming. I'm just going to 100% state you'll either need a link cable or a battery pack if you want to have fun with games for any length of time. 2 hours isn't even sufficient to launch it and watch some movies in a 3D theater.

It's damn cheap vr as a stand alone - just be aware that to get the most of it you'll be spending a bit more for the link cable (and need a good PC for VR) or you are limiting yourself on games and play time.

My suggestion? If you want affordable, buy it and link it to your PC somehow. Buy your VR games via steam. Enjoy better power from your box, and when (if) you decide to upgrade, you don't have to leave your games behind on your Oculus account.

The best way to think of it is like a console system (which it pretty much is, specializing in VR). If you don't want to buy a new console every couple of years, see if you like VR via the Quest 2 but start planning on buying some of the newer tech coming down the line.

I'm new to this and my Quest 2 won't be here for a while, can you get through VR motion sickness without ever feeling nauseous by using motion sickness pills? By that I mean chug a pill, play to your heart's content without worrying about getting sick for a few hours all the while naturally getting used to VR, repeat this a few times over the course of a couple of days, and come out with VR legs even when not using pills? My experience when I first started using VR was nausea in any game I was moving around with the thumbstick. My low framerate didn't help but I was able to get over it and mostly forget about it within a week or two. As long as you get an hour or two in VR a day you'll probably acclimate pretty quick. Never bothered with motion sickness pills. Don't push yourself too hard. If you take long breaks from VR the re-acclimation has always been pretty quick for me.

How do I decide what GPU I want to try and get for VR if there are no benchmarks. I'm not sure if a 6900 is a decent choice. I've heard that AMD users experience stuttering in VR, but then again there's no benchmarks, and if this is just a driver issue that will be fixed soon I don't mind. I'm also considering a 3080 since it supposedly does better for VR specifically, but at the same time 10GB VRAM though. More importantly I want to be able to run the retardedly high G2 resolution at 100% SS in SteamVR. Anyone have first hand experience?

They made changes to the forge system, you have to complete combat trials every 20 levels to unlock the next tier of ore. You can't refine anything but iron/copper first tier, then blood iron, then silver/electrum, and then finally mithril/purplestuff/palladium. We have not opened the last trial so we don't know what we have to fight behind the door.
