it's a simple stage port from a game, not too complex. I tried to set up the collision matrix, and it hanged. So i ended the process and tried again without any of the stage elements but vrcworld. that worked. But then when reintroducing those stage elements, it hangs at the control panel.

I found that it was the map stage itself causing it. I figured maybe the mesh colliders I have on it. I removed them all, the stage has NO collision.

It still does it. something about the mesh itself is causing grief.

What could it be? Not the highest poly map in the world
I even tried making a new project and doing the collision matrix before importing any assets, and nothing. still hangs.

Invite is world specific
Orange is player specific

If you make a new instance that is invite, only people invited can enter. Once you leave this instance, to go into a public world, this no longer applies to this new world (except you make up a new instance on your own again).

If you set your status to orange, nobody will know where you are and can't autojoin you, even if you are in a public area (because you are effectively "hidden").
This stays the same, no matter where you go. Also you must switch it off manually.

it's from a fairly low poly game, (whole map is just over 300k poly) but it is a somewhat large map.

it's broken up into multiple meshes, which seems ideal for occlusion, but even with the "everything merged together" version unity still hangs

i looked at it in blender. it seems fine there. I tried exporting as an obj but that just merges it together, I tried as a .dae and it still hangs with that

You can manually decimate. Eventually you can learn to eyeball extraneous geometry and corners to cut. For an easy example, on a model with lewd bits (nipples, gashes) you can smooth those areas out if you don't plan to use them. Generally if a mesh looks dense you can cut parts out and still retain the shape.
