I think that most shooters benefit from VR. Being able to decouple both hands and your head on top of the game's target prioritization horde shooter gameplay really works well. Going back to the desktop version just feels limited in comparison. My main gripe about the VR version is that mods for the desktop version aren't all compatible.

Shooters are just something that transitions the easiest out of just anything else ever to VR. It's like paintball or airsoft except it's one 1-2 payments and you don't have to buy any additional gear or waste gas money to go to one. But as the other anon says, they're as abundant as they are suffering from incompetent developers who suffer from acute autism in some form or another. Most simply don't have the gameplay loop there to justify putting your headset on. The vast majority of /vrg/ is going to feel left out and disengaged, because the way you've organized this is from asking your friends. It's a small subset of the whole group being represented, because it's entirely dependent on your own social circle, and thus isn't representative or relevant to the group as a whole.
This would have been the kind of event that worked fine in January when /vrg/ was 20 people across all time zones, but now you're running something that's relevant to 20 people and calling it something for a group of hundreds.

I'm not sure how to fix it, but a start might be by listing every event/map instead of just four, and not doing personal user categories at all.

This. A lot of people may not even go because they don’t care about these people because they’re already feeling left out of the creative and fun parts of events- being included. Doing an event of any kind, in my experience, has a lot of things that you have to think about, specially for a community this wide that is also sub-divided in smaller groups.
One of the issues when holding or doing an event of any kind, specially when it comes to voting for people or choosing someone for X thing, is trying to be transparent with everyone.
If you put your ideas in the thread, people will say: " Ah, this was posted on the thread it can be easily rigged ". But if you post it or organize it in any of the 20 discords that /vrg/ has, people is gonna complain and say: " Ah, this is a discord tranny event, ree discord trannies you don't belong here! ".
This is my point of view, but I don't see there's any kind of malicious intentions with the vrgramies or wathever is called, is easy to complain to Krial but remember that he didn't organize everything alone, and also he was the one (along with other people), to actually grab people and say " hey guys, you know this idea? ok let's do this idea ". Is easy to complain to someone but no one comes up with ideas to make things better, or well, at least SLIGHTY less worse.

Events pick the same 5 retards to judge everything because no one can coordinate on anyone else. They have name recognition because they're mods in the Discord or have been in the past, or they've run past events, or they've been shitposted in the thread a lot.
No one is going to pick someone else to judge events because why would they? It's all about name recognition and fame. If you're not a /vrg/ micro-celebrity your role in a /vrg/ event is to sit in the audience and validate the legitimacy of the famous people.

Hey, anyone here use Nvidia VRSS? I tried using it but it isn't working. The image is the same. I even pushed my headset against my face so I could see the edges of the lenses clearly, and the aliasing remains the same across the whole image. In fact, the aliasing might (still) be worse in the center, not better. I tried on all MSAA settings, and in both VRChat and Pavlov which should be supported.

I'm still in planning stages on Halloween.
Traditionally I've done a costume contest but last year's summer costume contest and mona's anime costume contest have me thinking about alternative events.
The problem with the costume contest is the scale of the community now makes actually running them and getting everyone in the same world and the spectators too and getting done with the costume contest in a reasonable time is hard.

I was thinking about an alternative event for Halloween that was simulated door to door trick or treating, That would require a map and I need to think out the concept a bit more though

One of the issues I've had recently is that I feel the bar for events has risen substantially. This is great because it means we get better events, but the organization stuff is hard.

In the early days, you just have to come up with a concept and get people on board and that was pretty easy.
These days it's a lot harder.
The D&D event we had last year was great but the map was very scuffy in the end and we barely got through it by the skin of our teeth. The event went well but it really gave me a lot of respect for how hard these things are. And it was only as good as it was because people who are a lot more talented than me worked very hard and I couldn't have done it without them.
There are some groups doing events right now that are really talented and doing great maps and I think I've made the mistake of biting off more than I can chew with events in the past.

It's hard to know what behavior you're talking about specifically but I do feel that I need to step up things with the event organizing.

One of my big gripes with the event is that I don't see how people not involved with the organization are actually involved during the event itself besides either being a passive nominee or a passive observer.

The only active part for the vast majority of people, the voting, happens a week beforehand and is done within a minute probably. And then, what? We just sit there and patiently wait for anouncers to orate who won what, and someone occasionally goes up and says a silly line?
Have they forgotten that award ceremonies are insanely boring to be at, unless (and sometimes even if) you get a price?

RequestSerialization() and ownership changes are my entire communication, since calling network events is not really solving this problem in any meaningful way. Both of those things are not happening instantly, so i cannot be sure if it happened whenever i'm doing anything on either side unless i'm in OnDeserialization() method (and even then, who knows how long ago it was executed, maybe there's a huge lag?). It's not that serialization is not happening, the problem is something like:

that sounds like it should work. An authoritative server model is probably easiest to reason about, where the actions by individual players are only pending until confirmed by the master authoritative behavior.

If it helps, my lightly documented poker implementation works in this fashion, where individual players own a 'Seat' behavior. a player can change their bet and click a commit button, which updates the Seat's state to represent a 'pending bet'. The master behavior that controls the rest of the game waits (with timeout) to see that the active player has a pending bet, checking that the 'lastSeenEpoch' of the pending bet matches the master's current round epoch (i.e. a monotonically increasing number). code at: https://github.com/hiinaspace/vrchat-holdem

It also has an example of running unit tests through unity's framework, using conditional compilation so you can actually step through udonsharp code in the debugger. It's pretty autistic, but may be worth it for tricky networking situations like this.

I tried out manual redirected walking this weekend and the only problem so far is how cautiously I walk.
I see there's settings in OVR Advanced for saccade turning and auto redirected, but neither seems to be effective enough; auto only seems to turn me 90 degrees.

Any advice for tuning besides "get used to it"? I'd like to be able to keep my thumbs off the sticks for games if I can manage to. I've got about 3mx4m of space to use, plus a margin around there besides.

Doing some racing in Assetto Corsa tomorrow night at 8PM EDT.
Since the 24 Hours of Le Mans was last weekend, going to try doing a 24 minute 60x version in GT3 cars.
We'll start out in practice mode, and move to qualifying/race mode when enough people join.
The Sol mod is highly recommended so you can actually see the day/night cycle.
A download and guide for the latest version of the Sol mod, the track we're using, and the DLC that's needed for a few of the cars are in the links if you need those.
Server is running in practice mode now, so you can get some practice laps in and figure out which car to run. Let me know if you run into any issues.
