there used to be safes that you could open with buyable keys, now safes have been removed and replaced with daily skin drops, not sure if the microtransaction tag still applies
map dlc is only required for the host, weapon dlcs are somewhat optional since you can still do well with what the base game gives you, mostly just retextured guns with smiilar stats

It depends if you can make your own fun or not. There isn't a real game to it, the wave mode is mind-numbingly simple and the AI is braindead. That said it's a fun physics sandbox with lots of weapons and powers you can mod in. Pirate before buying.

Go read the patents. It's going to be Lighthouse 3.0 with no moving parts. The IR sensors will have polarizers on them to make them direction sensitive, be able to reject scattered (ie: reflected off your shiny dragon dildo) light, and most likely every device will have both sensors and emitters to enable them to all track each other. Lighthouses will probably be nothing more than an omnidirectional IR light, if you choose to use them. They might be able to retain some backwards compatibility with Lighthouse 2.0 tracking if they implement things right.
Why do inside out with IR lights and sensors instead of cameras? Much less processing overhead, much less power use, possibly backwards compatibility with older SteamVR gear.

So what is going to be the next big "leap" for VR headsets? I've stubbornly held onto my original Oculus rift (as in, like the OG original original one) all these years and have kept it alive by swapping cables when they go bad, it's held on extremely well and I have no interest in the current "gen" of headsets. Namely the two big ones seem to be quest 2 and Index. At this point I'm just waiting for whatever the next big deal will be and finally make the jump. No gimmick shit like that Vive Flow shit. I want the next legit big deal specific for PC VR games headset. I think(?) index 2 is a thing that is going to happen? but who the fuck knows

As someone who used a OG Rift and OG Vive for a long time. The next big leap was wireless (either vivepro/pro2 or quest 2) with fully body tracking. If that doesn't seem worth it to you then wait for even smaller headsets with micro oled displays. The resolution bump sold me on ditching my OG vive. I used an OG Vive for a long time (2 years) but caved after trying an Index. That makes me believe the next leap is not with hardware performance but instead with the weight/comfort of the headset. While I perceived the difference in performance between the two I found it negligible, but the default comfort of the Index (no $100 deluxe strap!) and knuckles blew the Vive out of the water. This month is supposedly going to have a few announcements. There's a event for Varjo (manufacturer of enterprise level headsets with really advanced displays) their teaser is Varjo for all. So maybe a consumer version of their headset. That's supposed to be in 2 days. Oculus has an event on the 28th where a rumored quest 2 pro might be announced with face tracking, higher resolution, and controllers with there own IR sensor cameras built in for better tracking/no tracking rings (leaked image has been posted in the thread multiple times). Either way though none of the new headsets will be as cheap as the quest 2. The 300$ 128gb quest 2 will still be the best value for money more than likely even if all the rumors come true. Valve deckard will be another 1k$+ headset, Quest 2 pro will be at least 500$ if the tech they teased is real, varjo headsets are super expensive so a consumer version is gonna be 800$+ easy.

How high-res can you make a camera material? Seems you can't change viewballs, so I have the silly idea to just strap the screen to my character's face to mimic viewball position changing, but I wonder if it'll look grainy compared to what you normally see

- Pressing down on the sticks has no effect on thumbstick lifespan.
- Thumbstick issues were way worse in the first year or two, but even so my newer batches still seem to get drift but wayyyyy slower. Drift is accumulated through usage; it is a physical wearing of the axles and shafts inside the thumbstick mechanism.
- Cable is another common issue, I highly recommend adding strain relief to the back (elasticated ideally) as the hoop at the back gives your cable hell if you snag the cable on something. (this will happen.)Also the little tab on the left side of the headset should probably be loosened where the cable attaches, as having it on causes a strain point when you open the headset up.
- Reflective surfaces cause tracking issues. Like glass tables, mirrors, TVs, etc. Cover them with cloth.
- Check the strap of the headset for cracks now and then. It's spring loaded for comfort and can get stress fatigue failure around where the load is.

A speedrunner/challenge runner known for his no damage runs of Resident Evil games got RE4 VR early and posted his no-damage run of the whole game.
My initial impressions of it, from the footage, are that it doesn't seem like it's just a lazy port and it actually looks good (besides the glaring issues of it being Facebook-exclusive and having some of its dialogue censored). They actually made the puzzles and stuff interactive, which is really cool.
I'm gonna stop being a VRC tranny and play some actual VR vidya for once. I'll get it tomorrow, play it, and report back whether it's worth, since I've got a Quest 2.

I've been finding CATS to be less and less helpful as the avatar import meta has shifted from MMDs to Booth/VRoid/Koikatsu imports. MMDs are stuck in 2016 and generally not licensed for VRChat if you can still find them for download at all. The plugin can't even translate shape keys anymore.

I just taught them how to combine amatures and remove unneeded bones manually in blender it's not hard and preserves the names and hiarchy for unity.
Only useful tools in cats is pose mode to change the base pose of the model with shape keys intact and it's translation tool. The atlas tool is garbage and so are the majority of it's "fixes". They usually just break shit.

keep your quest 2 and get some lighthouses and trackers. (you can get 1.0s used in vive kits off ebay for a fair price.) I paid 250$ for a full vive kit in like new condition. Used it for about a year, sold the HMD, Link box, and controllers for what I paid for it. Kept the lighthouses and use them with my quest 2 wireless setup now for FBT. I don't suggest using height for playermodels. The affect doesn't work well when you're close to the geometry, or when the geometry curves, but the normal map should make things convincing enough so that it doesn't matter.

Roughness should be inverted and used as smoothness or a mask for matcaps/other visual effects.

Probably as it's easier to get LCD and it's cheaper too. That and pentile displays have more screen door and an effectively lower resolution. You should probably get a new pad for your headset. I have the same problem, and the solution is basically just new headset pads. Replace the current one when it gets worn out.

Also consider the material that the padding is made of. Cloth will always be superior than some kind of pleather, but it will wear out faster, obviously. Just another expense to VR. Try to make your set-up as comfortable as possible to lower costs on dumb shit like this.
