There are recoveries, game reset you back on track and penalizes with 15s or so. Car repairs don't count as a penalty either, there's just a limited amount of time for repairs in service area so if you crash your car really bad you might have to choose between repairing one part or another.

This Varjo news is great. If for nothing else than leading some companies *cough..htc* to up their game and stop using dogshit fresnel lenses.

Still, not experiencing as much envy being a VP2 owner as i thought i might. Besides the price, the aero has a worse fov, and fov is my biggest immersion killer with the vp2, i dont think the return to round lenses vs letterbox lenses would make up for it.
Also im an amdcuck with the gpu i bought and its not even supported.
The hype really is about building towards that true VR 2.0 headset coming around the corner now. The display quality is now solved, the fov is solved by Pimax, the lenses solved by Varjo, the general accessories is solved by Valve. Now just need that one package which brings it all together.
highres wireless remains to be solved, thats really the only sticking point.

I like the Aero even with the limited FOV, as you can actually use the entire FOV. My experience with other headsets is OK in the center and blurry everywhere else+glare and god knows what. Varjo actually addressed all of that making the area out of the center actually useful. I'm an AMCuck like you though and there's no way I'm shelling out for an RTX card when the prices right now would make the Aero's pricing look very reasonable.

Are accessories for the Vive Pro 1 compatible with the Vive Pro 2? I found some 3D printable inserts for using Zenni lenses with the Vive Pro 1, but I have no idea if the lens shape is the same. Same with the face gaskets as all Amazon has for wipeable gaskets are for the Vive Pro 1 rather than 2.

Assetto is $4 on Kinguin and other key sites, it's pretty much on permanent sale at this point. You also don't need to buy the DLC if you don't want, it can be flawlessly pirated once you have the base game. Keep in mind that the aspherical lenses on the Aero help a lot. It has actual edge to edge clarity with everything being in focus. There is no glare/mura/godrays like the kind the Vive Pro 2 has either. I think that the optics+pixel density are why everyone says that it has close to human eye clarity. While this guy says that you can get 20/25 vision with it, the G2 only provides 20/40 vision and the Index sits at 20/70 about.

It's easy when you crop the vertical FOV to literally 77 degrees. It's the lowest FOV of any modern headset. I can guarantee you that unlike ecelebs who hype this shit up and aren't critical, there will be many real users who will be disappointed by the FOV and begrudgingly cope with it because it's better as an overall experience than other headsets. All any other manufacturer needs to do is literally just use the similar resolution screens and some expensive aspheric lenses we've had for ages and they'll get the same praise. It feels like the compromise of a greatly inferior viewing experience for a cheaper headset was not what the enthusiast market wanted. I think they ultimately made the right call to account for motion sickness fags. Fresnel lenses still excel at geometric stability which is important for that. That was also at a time where screen resolutions were low so it didn't hit the upper limit of what the lenses could convey. However today, I believe both Valve and Oculus engineers have come out and said that their current lenses are imposing a bottleneck on clarity that would make pairing them higher resolution screens pointless. In any case, we're at a point where both kinds of lenses, fresnel and traditional, are about to be a thing of the past. Pancake lenses will allow smaller form factors with higher clarity. For me I don't think that the smaller FOV matters that much when the lenses offer actual edge to edge pin point clarity. Other headsets are blurry outside of the sweetspot and suffer from glare, mura, and the like. I think that optics get understated compared to raw specs when they matter so much. I honestly don't think that similar aspheric lenses will get used by other companies soon, especially as even other enterprise manufacturers haven't bothered. You can already get similar resolutions with headsets like the Vive Pro 2 actually, but I think that the microLEDs that Varjo uses are a lot nicer than the TN and IPS panels that everyone else goes with. They mentioned that they will patch in per-pixel dimming for proper blacks and HDR-esque color ranges which is very exciting compared to all other headsets which just have static light levels. With everyone else seeming to be going for lower end standalone headsets now, I'm glad that at least one company is pushing the envelope.

As VR gets bigger, more manufacturers will jump in at both the low and high end. Aspheric lenses won't be used more because everyone will move to pancake. Aero clones will probably get made anyway though given the hype.

Panels will get better over time naturally, Varjo only has that pro because they're selling a more expensive headset. Varjo does not use microLED, they use miniLED. MicroLED is the one with vastly superior colors and contrast rivaling OLED, but miniLED is better then LCD.
