Standard shader does this too. It's white for metal and transparent for no specular. Figure out which colour channel does what and paint over the spots you want with that colour on a different layer in photoshop then multiply all the layers together.

The initial tutorial is honestly the worst the game gets with that. There's a lot less vertical drops/jumps in the main game, and when they do show up, it's not one after another like in the tutorial. Once you get past it the game becomes a much smoother experience.

Making a fallback that looks like your regular avatar but doesn't have all the neat features, toggles, and high poly bullshit that makes it possible for everyone to see and recognise you regardless of if they have your avatar auto blocked or not.

it depends what people you play with, if you play on public and have an avatar that is rated 'poor' or 'very poor' theres a 90% chance that most of the people wont be able to see your avatar at all and theyll see you as the fallback dog or w/e you choose.

fallbacks arent just for quest users, a lot of PC users play with 'normal' safety settings to block crashers and people with the annoying e-boy/e-girl avatars that lag out the server. the normal setting by default blocks most 'poor' and EVERY 'very poor' avatar, and some 'mediums' if they have special animations or dynamic bones etc.

if you play exclusively on private PCVR only lobbies where everyone is using lower safety settings because they trust eachother not to crash them, then yeah you shouldnt care about fallbacks. but if you play publics you either want a fallback or you want to optimize your current avatar down to good or medium so people will just see that instead.

HTC is dumb, and their early adoption of VR/trackers is the only thing keeping their VR ventures from being complete failures. Note that when the trackers came out, their only use was in tennis games where they would replace one of your controllers.

If it's the choice between PCVR and Quest Contractors, the PC version is better as it has access to custom maps. Those are coming to Quest eventually but when and how playable the maps will be is unknown.

It's very weird, but from what I've heard, people feel less VR sick AND less drunk while they are drinking with the headset on. Be careful though, because you only FEEL less dizzy/drunk while you have the headset on, it doesn't make you any less so. It can creep up on you after you take the headset off. If you drank a lot while in VR it will fuck you when you take the headset off so have a chair nearby and be prepared to sit, or go straight to bed after guzzling some water.

Menemonics are an awesome tool. It's way easier to remember some dumb story than bruteforcing random scribble gook runes in your brain. The only catch is you have to actually use your imagination to make it work. For example actively imagine that you are -go-ing on a picnic and then see -five- funny benches that look exactly like that symbol. Imagine how you felt or how dumb you thought it was that they built 5 benches that look that way. This creates more pathways for your brain not to immediately forget how to relate the meaning, the pronunciation, and the symbol.
You'll of course still need the flashcards for the spaced repetition but it'll be way easier now that you have something to relate it to.

Is Gurrah a good game? It looks fun and people seem to be having fun in it. But is the game actually competitively sound? As far as I know there is no single tactic that is really gamebreaking, a decent playspace is advisable either way so you don't run the risk of hitting stuff in your play area. You can do some fuckery with playspace mover to either float in the air or go goblin mode, neither if which seem to be particularily effective. The best way to be effective is learning your weapons as well as learning the matchups. It has a bit of weirdness that comes with indie vr games made by one guy, but overall it's worth it, at least in my opinion.

I've had full body tracking for a while now, but whenever I set up a model in VRChat my feet and waist trackers are always way farther ahead of my model and I've always had to scrunch myself inwards to try to properly align my trackers.
Whenever I move myself with OVR it takes my whole body with it, meaning it pushes my entire playspace in a direction instead of just myself with my model in place.

They are, but the VR version is 2-3 years old by now, so any mod that *ONLY* works on newer versions won't work.

It's basically like Skyrim VR in that aspect.

Also I STRONGLY recommend Skyrim VR, it's probably the best all-around VR game right now. It's actually a full game, and not just a 5-hour tiny campaign experience or a 30-minute tech demo. You just have to be willing to mod it to get it working nicely.

The only time I've ever found 144 Hz to make a difference is in VR rhythm games. I can't even see a difference between 80 Hz and 144 Hz in Pavlov aside from the screen flickers slightly. On a flat screen I saw no difference at all aside from I could get lower scores on reaction time tests. It's a complete waste of time on a monitor unless you're playing at the highest levels of competitive FPS.

Only 6 weapons shown, I hope that's a beta thing or they don't drag their feet adding more, even Left4Dead 1 had more weapons. You get up to 8 slots to modify each gun with things you unlock from the runs. I didn't try them all but the pistol and Uzi felt okay.
Smooth movement seems fine but some people were getting stuck in terrain and other players IK look like the old Contractors apeman when they run. Otherwise it looks and feels polished.
5 maps doesn't sound as great to me, the beta one only lasted 30-40 mins so if they're similar it won't take long to play them all. I get the impression you'll have to enjoy pushing the higher difficulties to make it replayable.

The game uses a friend code system so that might make it more complicated to organize /vrg/ lobbies but it would also let us post them in the thread without namedrop related drama.
