WARNING RACING IN ONE HOUR

Welcome back racer!
EU Assetto Corsa: European Racing club, season 5!
Race 24.

18:00 UTC, 20:00 CET, Monday 30th of May!

Formula 1 at Spa. You get a Ferrari, and you get a Ferrari, everyone's a Schumacher!
Grazie ragazzi, grande machina, forza Ferrari!

1 hour practice, 15 minutes qualifiers, 9 laps race.

Afterwards we'll do some drifting/pleasure driving in the Gunsai Touge, Japan, with a good selection of drift and non drift cars, mainly from Japan.

Mods:

Assetto - can be played with wheel, controller, or steam-vr-wheel addon, it doesn't matter, we will all have fun driving together. If you just bought Asseto - grab Assetto Corsa Content Manager - a better launcher: https://assettocorsa.club/content-manager.html and a mod installer (just drag and drop zip files from mega).

For communication we'll use mumble at voice.vrg.party port 64738, as it doesn't need any registrations or logins.

Anonymous No.386170943

The normal Cosmo's tracking is still bad. The Cosmo Elite on the other hand has lighthouse tracking and works with the wireless adapter so it is less bad. If you can get it for a good price and get Knuckles later I'd say go for it. Otherwise for lighthouse+wireless you might want to spend more on a Vive Pro 2 instead.

The first time I remember getting this impression was when a game called 'Prototype' came out in 2009. Everyone was raving over how cool it was to kick a helicopter, but I didn't see what was so impressive about an animation playing when you pressed a button. The game was incredibly shallow.

some deep rock galactic vr gameplay:

https://streamable.com/lj0yvr

definitely an early beta. playable if you already know how the game works (or somebody to explain it to you), but needs a lot of polish; wouldn't recommend for anyone new to the game or new to vr currently. still some soft-locks and crashes, no prompts at all, no way to see where your teammates are, have to open a hand menu to see mission objectives. OTOH it is still satisfying to switch weapons and toss the flares around, and the basics of aiming and shooting is still way more compelling than flat.

Right now if you leave your ship via Odyssey you will just see a 2D screen projected into your VR headset and are prompted to take it off to just play the game on your monitor. Compared to NMS which has motion controls, full body IK, roomscale, and proper VR menus, in or out of a ship with that mod it's not even close to compare the level of VR support of the two titles.

It's a "beta". Play the game flat for now. It still has crashes with Nvidia cards and a bunch of unimplemented functionality. There is no way to use active perks or power attacks right now. or see where your teammates are with the laser pointer. The developer claims that manual pickaxe usage is 75% done so maybe that update will land soon. Thank goodness mod.io auto-updates things.

Yeah. FRIK+Virtual chems+Virtual holsters give you all that. Bonus points if you get Kabuto VR for full power armor immersion. The game is still press button to reload, but the FRIK developer mentioned that after FRIK is finished he is going to work on that. There are cool new mods for FO4 in general like the Point Lookout port which works in VR.

Is there a modpack or something for Skyrim VR that just sets it all up for me to be as immersive and actually playable as possible? I've seen a bunch of mods that basically make it close to Blade & Sorcery but I have no idea where to start with any of this.

Also how compatible/easy are coom mods to set up for VR? Is there a pack that includes sex mods?

Read the instructions. Monster animations are already included if you pick the degeneracy profile. If you want to add a new animation of let's say someone getting spitroasted by giants, install the new animation mod, run FNIS, and then you should be good. If the animation involves solely humanoid characters run Nemesis instead.

>You will now be able to gain progression towards the next Infamy without resetting your level or resetting your skills, however, it will be slower than normal progression.
>The cost of a rank via the Infamy pool will be 30 million XP instead of the 23 million it would be if you used the regular reputation reset system to go infamous. This means that if you don't reset, you'll have to work harder in exchange for keeping your gear and skills.

Alright motherfuckers it is that time of the week again! We are cruising through summer at a shaky pace, usually meets and everything dies down around this time of the year, but people are staying on consistently, doing a lot better then the previous years. If it stays strong through the heat remains to be seen, don't forget to buy air conditioning before it really kicks off and you intend to play VR for the next months.

Rec room was played by the dedicated European township tale man too early for most NA, going to push for another go later in the day. Also outer wilds VR is fucking awesome.

exclusive to psvr means the titles won't sell that well and sony will do what they do best: give up and let someone else take the wheel while they get left behind (yeah i'm salty as fuck over the vita still)

That was fun, just fucking stand off AGMs took ages to fly.

Next time build a gps path of at least 2 points, last being target and first being a navpoint which you create in NAV mode, there is a small altitude selected in the NAV page, set it to like 10-15 thousand at least, then cruise missiles go over mach one, very fast, I wonder if you go higher, maybe they'll go even faster.

I guess anti ship agm fly so slow and low like that too, and you need to increase altitude of their path.

We don't really play PvP for EU hours. We have in the past but generally it doesn't go as well as PvE. It's alright with 8v8 but generally it just leads to weaker players having a bad time. Also any PvP mission that allows different vehicles just ends up with the F-45s killing everyone. PvE has plenty to do and you can do 16 player coop (provided you can find a workshop mission for it).

Okay so not really gaming, but is watching movies in VR pretty neat? I remember when I got my headset I just did the airlink to the PC and browsed the internet for a bit and it was neat because the pictures looked all posters size and looked nice. Does that translate well to watching movies? Is there a nice little VR movie player so it's not just like a window on a virtual desktop? I've go the Quest 2 if that matters. Figured I'd just use it through the computer though.

There are a number of small but interesting things from the Cambria schematic leak (that Brad doesn't seem to mention?).

Like the two 3.5 mm audio ports. So it looks like it'll be Quest 1 style again which is cool. Wonder if it's a single dac or dual. Probably not dual, but would be cool.

Some of the pics have a facial interface, confirming that there will in fact be one, and it seems that logically they might attach magnetically. But there aren't any images of the bottom part, which makes me think it's possible there will be a bottom cut out for the face tracking.

The face tracking is a curious thing on this. There seem to be 3 holes on the bottom of the headset, which may be the cameras for the face tracking. The dual rods on each side might be for the charging dock.

The proximity sensor and its IR illuminator are visible. It may or may not contribute to eye/face tracking. The eye tracking cameras don't seem to be visible anywhere, but notably, the pieces outlining the lenses are quite thick, so it's possible they're hiding cams/IR behind them. It might also be possible they're doing the trick where they're sticking the camera on the side of the screen, to look at your eyes through the pancake lenses.

The ventilation grill lining the edge of the faceplate is quite notable, although the two fans are not clearly visible in any of the shots.

The speaker ports are facing downwards rather than towards your head. Might be better since Quest 2's ports were closer to your temples than your ears.

It seems like rather than adjusting the body of the headset to be farther or closer to your face, the front dial might actually be adjusting the lens assemblies themselves.

Has any of you done any research or calculations on how much energy your desktop PC's now use with VR attached to them? I only play video games at home and sometimes my electric bills are insane every month and they will only get higher due to the Ukraine crisis. So let me share some information and you guys compare it to your setups and I think it would be constructive if we saw if it's VR that is making the bills go high - even on idle.

So my setup is:
>i9 9900k
>RTX 2080 (normal)
>NVMe SSD, plus 3 external HDDs and 1 internal SSD

VR is:
>Valve Index

I have a 660W PSU I believe. I haven't done any calculations yet or used a meter (haven't had the chance to buy one yet) but let me tell you about how I live and the kWh / month.

>3 bedrooms
>1 fridge / freezer combination (these use around 2-3 kWh / day)
>all past generation consoles (plugged in, but not powered)
>no electric heating
>1 laptop that is charged most of the time
>1 smart phone
>1 72" TV, mostly off but is rather energy saving

And finally the consumption: 300 kWh / month

This varies and last month I was a week away from home and I had 200 kWh usage. It spikes it whenever I launch my PC and I own a 144 Hz PC screen. I turned it down to 120 Hz because I heard it can really tax your PC when you have a high framerate and not even play anything. It only goes down to 60 Hz but at that level it looks horrible.

I think I can't reduce energy consumption that much more unless I unplug my index. I notice one of the lightboxes has a green light and the other blue. One is spinning and one is idle and in power idle mode.

So now I have a Steam Deck arriving and Tundra trackers. All of which will eat a ton of electricity and my bill i already 60€ / month and will soon be 80€. This is not good since it's way beyond that of the average. Would love some advice.
Anonymous No.386521180 Replies: >>386522039

Index base stations and Index itself use 12v 10w power supplies. If you'd have four base station and Index, your peak possible power usage wouldn't exceed 50w, and it's much less than that because power adapters are not running at 100% of their capacity. If you're running VR 24/7 and your GPU/CPU runs at 100% all that time, your computer is obviously going to eat shit load of power, but index itself can't physically consume extra 100kwh/month. Adapters aside, what would it even do with this power? It'd have to heat up like crazy to waste it somewhere.

I believe you are correct but then you have to add in the power the PC uses as the index needs the power of the GPU, CPU and NVMe SSD as well. It's not in isolation. Then there's the controllers that need charging. They are small usage I wager but it all eventually adds up and if all I do daily is play on my PC then what explains 300 kWh a month? My food cold storage is 60 and heating food can go up to 10 a month at best I believe. I think it all just adds up.

Also when I play VR I'm in in for multiple hours or until the batteries die.

>>386521243
Valve default settings do this. Most just don't know it does this. You have to go through the settings to find the power savings mode.

>>386521448

Well, if you're playing 8h+ a day, it's not impossible to hit big numbers with how hard PC runs. SSD doesn't matter as those things eat 10w tops, but CPU/GPU turns into a space heater at full power. It' not really VR itself, as headset with base stations and controllers would add you 15-20kwh/mo tops (ass pull number, but i think general intuition is not far off). Controller charging is insignificant, VR power is barely any important, but a PC can do quite some damage.

It's not idle, but if you want to be sure, you can always disconnect devices when not in use for a month and see if it'll help you with your bills.

I see, thanks. I figured the Valve index with it's high refresh rates of 120 and 144 that it would eat up a lot of power just like the 32" 144 Hz gaming screen does. I have an app from my power provider that shows BY HOUR energy usage and it doubles / triples when I power up my PC. Just powering it up does that even if all I'm doing is browsing e-mails.

Well not quite, basically turn on: DOUBLE
Play a game: TRIPLE
And this is by hour. I took a vacation last week and I checked my app daily to see what the power consumption was when I wasn't even at home and it was 1.8 - 2 kWh. Now at home when I play like 6 hours of games it goes up to 5-6 kWh. I am getting my fridge replaced soon with a better one but I have this feeling my PC isn't even the best power savings mode it could be, hence why I made the post here if you guys have hints on how to turn it into power saving mode. The 144 Hz screen makes a lot of noise and it heats up. I know it eats a ton. I believe if I sold that I could probably reduce it by a lot but there's something magical in playing FPS games with 120 FPS and see the smoothness of it. Not to mention older PC games. So smooth...

I've only played Contractors, Invisible Hours, Yupitergrad, and A Fisherman's Tale. Contractors is probably an obligatory multiplayer shooter to own, if you like shooters. Invisible Hours is good if you like stories; it's basically an immersive play, I can't think of any other games that have the same kind of presentation. Yupitergrad is a fun platformer. And A Fisherman's Tale is a creative puzzle game.

I think we can project a bit. How did PSVR1 do with games? It did OK, but there was like maybe 1 or 2 games on it that were truly only available to it and worth playing (but not worth getting an entire console just to play). Now we can extrapolate, and there might be up to 4 of such games with PSVR2. And the hardware will be better. But you know, it still feels like it probably won't be worth it. This is still going to be for people who already have PS5's. If you don't have one then there's no reason to buy one. Hell, even comparing it on the flat gaming front, it's a hard buy, especially with the way Sony's bringing games to PC now. If they do the same with VR titles then it's over.

Gurrah, Contractors, and A Fisherman's Tale are all good fun. Gurrah is kind of dead online, but Contractors is actually fairly alive. Otherwise it looks like a lot of shovelware, which is the state of VR games in general to be fair. You might be better off investing in a CD key of Resident Evil 8 if you want something high quality.

Haven't played that, but the I just finished playing 2 hours of Last Clockwinder and the clone concept is really fun in VR. Clockwinder is automation autism instead of combat though. a bit of gameplay:

Unfortunately it looks like there's only a few levels left, so I think like 4 hours to get through all the levels. But there's plenty of room for optimization, and maybe they'll release a level editor like zachtronics games, which would be great.

Games like Satisfactory got a fanmade modding framework partly due to it selling over a million copies. Meanwhile The Last Clockwinder doesn't seem to have sold well at all, with it peaking at 54 concurrent players on Steam. I doubt that any Quest players would be able to pick up the slack either given that Bepinex, Melonloader, and all other unity modding frameworks explicitly don't run on those headsets. I just don't think that it's a rational thing to assume that mods will make the game a better deal at any point in time.

Yeah, I'd like more advanced components. There's no AC sources, capacitors, inductors, transformers, etc.

Not just graphics. The way the game handles objects is very demanding. Simply putting enough items in your stash makes the most powerful hardware lose frames and they don't even have active physics once they are dropped.

Why are vorpx fags so annoying about their crap software?
If they use it they WILL tell you about it and say it's better and more convenient than whatever is being discussed.

The textures look muddy and really washed out but yeah that looks feature-complete

they tell you how sharp the turn is
usually on a 6 you can just blast through at full speed unless you are warned of something.
the other plane numbers without directions 30, 70, 120 are meters to the next turn.
